A Night in Philadelphia

Here's a Gurren Lagann one-shot that I put together within a couple of hours. This will probably have some SimonxYoko, because I like the pairing. Enjoy and please review! Disclaimer: Gurren Lagann is not mine. But this plot is, however.

March 18, 2014

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Simon walked out of his house and began walking down a street in Philadelphia, heading for the downtown area of his home city. He was wearing an orange and black Flyers shirt with a dark blue jacket over it that had a red star on the back. He really didn't know where to go, but he continued walking towards the heart of the city anyway. As the sun began to disappear over the horizon and night began to fall, Simon started to think about Yoko, whom he had not seen for the past seven years, as she had left The City Of Brotherly Love when he was just fourteen years old and she was seventeen. They had known each other for the past three years, and were involved in a romantic relationship for the past year until Yoko had up and left him. Simon was 21 now, but he still wondered after all this time why Yoko had left for no reason at all. Simon knew that he loved her, not just because she was one of the hottest women in the city, but because they had a deep connection, one that Simon hoped to repair someday. Simon had also been huge fan of the Philadelphia Flyers before he even met Yoko, and he had even persuaded her to go with him to a game one time, and she then became a huge fan of the Flyers because of Simon. After Yoko had gone away, Simon continued to go to as many Flyers games as he could, and the games he couldn't go to he'd watch on TV or listen to on the radio. However, going to a game never felt the same to Simon anymore after Yoko left, as they would always go to the Wells Fargo Center, where the Flyers play their home games, together. Simon was also close friends with Kittan, who was also a passionate fan of the Flyers like Simon. Simon would sometimes see Kittan at the Wells Fargo Center and they would catch up on old times after a game, but Kittan began to notice that there was something wrong with Simon, as they had known each other since they were little. Kittan would ask him what was wrong, but Simon would just say that it was nothing. As Simon was thinking, he came to a stop at a very familiar street corner, which was the corner of 3rd Street and Pattison Avenue, and noticed a sign that he knew so well, as him and Yoko would walk past it every time they went to the Wells Fargo Center together. The sign read "Wells Fargo Center one mile ahead", and had an arrow pointing in the direction which he had been walking previously.

'Hmm, maybe I'll take in a Flyers game tonight. I haven't been to a game for the past couple of months, and the Flyers are playing the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. It should be a good game, but I hope that they still have tickets left.'

Simon then started walking again, but he was walking at a faster pace to try to get a ticket to tonight's game.

As Simon finally made it to the Wells Fargo Center, he looked at his watch, and it read 6:45 P.M. As he took a look at where the tickets were being sold, he noticed that there weren't too many people in line, so he figured that he would still be able to get a ticket before the game began, as the game would start at just past 7:30 P.M., about 45 minutes from now.

'I just hope that there're still good seats left.'

Simon was hoping that he could still grab a good seat, but with the Flyers playing the Blackhawks, which was a rematch of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final, he knew that he'd be lucky to even buy a ticket. However, as Simon stepped the line, he felt someone put a hand on his shoulder, and when he turned around he saw his friend and good buddy, Kittan.

"Hey Kittan. How have you been lately? Are you going to the game as well?"

"You bet your ass I am, Simon! I'm not planning on missing this game for anything! Anytime our Flyers play the Blackhawks, you know anyone who's a Flyers fan would get fired up for this!"

"Yeah I know, it's going to be a hell of a game."

However, Simon didn't say that with any enthusiasm, and Kittan picked up on it right away.

"Simon, I can tell something's bothering you. What's going on, man?"

"It's nothing, Kittan. I was just thinking about something. Nothing important."

"Whatever you say, Simon."

'Why did this game have to be against the Blackhawks of all teams? The Blackhawks were the team that the Flyers faced when Yoko and I went to our first game together, almost ten years ago.'

As Simon and Kittan finally reached the front and asked for two tickets, they were surprised and excited to find out that there were still two tickets remaining, which were seats that were a little bit high up but had a great view of the action and were right next to each other. However, Kittan noticed that he didn't have enough money to buy his ticket, and he stopped Simon in his tracks by saying to him.

"Hey Simon, I don't have enough money for my ticket."

Simon looked at Kittan with a sympathetic look, but he had only brought enough money with him for one ticket.

"Sorry about that, Kittan. I only brought enough money for one ticket, though."

"Yeah, well, I'm here a lot so it really doesn't matter anyway. I'll just head across the street to the Xfinity Live building across the street and watch the game there."

"Yeah, that sounds good. Anyway, let's hope that the Flyers can exact a little revenge on the Blackhawks for what happened in 2010, you know?"

"Yeah Simon, I'm hoping for the exact same thing. And don't forget, "GO FLYERS!"

"GO FLYERS!"

They both said in unison, and then Simon and Kittan went their separate ways, with Kittan heading for the Xfinity Live building while Simon walked into the Wells Fargo Center to find where he would be sitting. As Simon took the escalator to the upper levels of the Wells Fargo Center and reached the top, he failed to notice that a certain red-haired, provocatively dressed woman was getting onto the escalator, and she had bought the ticket that would place her right next to Simon.

As Simon finally reached where he would be sitting after what he felt was a long time of searching, he sat down and just as he did, the referee had dropped the puck at center ice and the game was underway. As Simon intently watched the Blackhawks come into the Flyers' zone with the puck for the first time, he didn't notice that Yoko had sat down next to him. As he saw the Flyers finally get the puck out of their zone, he heard a woman's voice next to him yell in a graceful manner.

"GO FLYERS!"

Simon looked over at her with a surprised look and said to her.

"Hey, are you a big Flyers fan as well?"

"Yeah, I've been watching them for a long time. My boyfriend got me into them, actually."

"Really? Well, I've been watching them for a long time as well, and I went with my girlfriend to a lot of games. I still go to a lot of games, but it's just not the same without her, you know?"

"Yeah, I know the feeling. I used to go with my boyfriend all the time, but this is the first game that I've been to in years."

Simon just nodded to her in response.

The Blackhawks had made it 2-0 early in the first period, but the Flyers had answered back only a couple of minutes later to make it 2-1, and then in the same period the Flyers had scored another goal to make it 2-2. Simon was really excited about this game, and so far it was not disappointing him.

The 2nd and 3rd periods had no scoring, but the overtime was the turning point for both the hockey game and Simon and Yoko's relationship.

Simon and the woman next to him jumped up and cheered as the Flyers scored in overtime to beat the Blackhawks by a score of 3-2. The woman next to him was so excited that she almost knocked him over by hugging him, and Simon blushed when his face accidentally became nestled in the woman's considerable cleavage. As Simon pulled away after a few moments with a blush still on his face while the Flyers celebrated their victory, he studied the woman for a moment and noticed her red hair and skimpy clothes and that's when it hit him.

"Yoko, is it really you?"

"Oh my God, Simon?! I haven't seen you in so long! I'm really sorry that I left, I just was looking for adventure, you know?"

"It's okay, Yoko. I just have something to tell you and ask you."

Before Yoko could respond, Simon had reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black box, and, before Yoko could figure out what Simon was doing, Simon got on one knee, opened the box, and said to Yoko.

"Yoko, I think I've fallen in love with you, and there's no one else that I'd rather be with in my life, so, will you be my wife?"

Yoko gasped and put a hand to her mouth in shock as she looked at the beautiful diamond ring.

"Yes, yes I will be your wife, Simon!"

Simon then got up and met Yoko in a passionate kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck, and as they pulled away, Simon took the ring out of its box and slipped it onto Yoko's finger, and she looked at it in awe.

Simon and Yoko then shared another kiss and walked out of the Wells Fargo Center together; wondering what would lie ahead in this new chapter in both of their lives.

As Kittan walked out of the Xfinity Live building after the exciting finish to the Flyers game, he noticed Simon walking hand-in-hand with a red-haired woman and Kittan knew that it had to be Yoko. As Simon and Yoko noticed Kittan approach them, Kittan saw the ring on Yoko's finger and instantly knew that Simon had proposed to her.

"So Simon, you finally did it, huh buddy?"

Kittan asked with a friendly jab to his shoulder.

Simon blushed and put his hand behind his head, nervously scratching his hair.

"Yeah Kittan, I finally did. I feel great right now. This has to be one of the best days of my life."

"That's good to hear Simon. Well, I'll leave you two alone. Catch you two later Simon, Yoko."

"Goodnight, Kittan."

Simon and Yoko said in unison, and he waved and walked off.

"Yoko, would you like to go to the next Flyers game with me?"

Simon asked hopefully.

"I'd love to, Simon!"

Simon and Yoko then closed the gap between them and kissed again, happy in the sense that they would be together for the rest of their lives, both of them knowing now that not even seven years away from each other could tear them apart.

I hope everyone enjoyed this, as I really like the SimonxYoko pairing! I'm a huge Flyers fan myself, so having Simon, one of my favorite all-time characters, as a Flyers fan was really amazing! I was actually at the game that I put on the story, and let me tell you, it was an electric atmosphere in South Philadelphia that night! Please review to let me know how this was! Thanks and I hope you all enjoyed the story!
