Soon time passed and for Scorpius the heart ache lessened with each passing day. Not long after that night Scorpius had distanced himself from the Potter's; minus Albus and occasionally James. He would go over sometimes, but was sure to avoid when the Weasley's were over, unless it was for larger scale events.
Then years passed and Scorpius finished his training, becoming a top healer at St. Mungos and had his own flat; though him and Albus planned to meet up at least once a week for a beer or something of the like.
Except for one week.
He had been called to stay at the hospital passed his shift because of a code red emergency. His assist nurse handed him the clipboard with the patient's name and their information, nothing, however, could have prepared for the name written at the top of the sheet.
Rose Weasley.
Rose was unconscious; badly bleeding from a curse and though the bleeding had mostly stopped, the wounds were still very much there.
An auror had been with her at the time, Scorpius recognized him like one of Albus' friends.
"Oh thank Merlin Scorpius." The guy said, he was bleeding too but was still conscious. "The guys who attacked us was using very dark magic." He said "The curse, it had a similar effect to Sectusempra but i couldn't quite catch the word, i'm sure that was not it was though." He said before coughing. "There was another spell too but I don't know what it did."
"What was the name of the spell?" Scorpius asked as the nurse tried to help the auror, since Rose was more badly damaged, "And how did this happen..?"
"You know she's the only one who would take Yulxman's case because the other lawyers were too scared. She lost the case and I was assigned to protect her... I didn't think... There were too many of them: five against the two of us. Backup arrived too late." The guy sighed looking away. "The spell was in runes. We're looking it up in the department because it was rare magic..."
"How long will it to get it?" Scorpius asked looking at Rose trying to figure out how to help her, "And how long as she been unconscious..?"
"She's been unconscious for about half an hour" he said looking anxiously at Rose. "As for the spell... Albus himself is looking for it with some other- oh there they are!" he said relieved as he looked passed Scorpius.
Scorpius looked up and saw Albus standing in the doorway, "Al do you have any idea what it is?" He asked as he told the nurse what potions to get and she left the room.
"It's a type three curse. The cure is... Well I brought you all I could get but it's not much." Albus said handing him some papers. "It's just going to take time and a combination of very difficult spells..."
Scorpius looked for the papers for a few moments trying to figure something out because he needed to think fast.
"Ok... If we start now we could probably get it done in an hour at the soonest..." He said thinking aloud.
"Morgan take this to Caleb." Scorpius said, "And tell him I'll be there in a moment." and once the nurse was gone again he finished setting Rose up so that she would be stabilized for a while.
"Can you do it?" Albus said looking at Scorpius, his gaze intense.
"I hope so." Scorpius answered honestly, "The spells are difficult, but not impossible, I just need time and then I can give you a real answer... I'm sorry." He looking at his friend.
Albus nodded and looked at Rose for a moment. "I'll... I trust you Scorpius..." He said looking at his friend. "I know you'll do anything that can be done" he said gently. "I'll go out... To take care of the family..." He said before leaving.
Scorpius nodded and after he left Scorpius patched up the auror in charge of Rose the best he could before telling him to stay put; having the nurse watch them as he went to work on the the cure. Telling her to get him right away if anything happened.
….
About 2 hours later Scorpius actually managed, with the help of some others, to finish the cure.
The wounds still needed time to heal but they managed to break the layers of spells that kept them from getting better. In a few days Rose was going to be alright.
As they moved her to a room where they would check if she woke up alright, it was time for Scorpius to go talk with her family. At this point though Scorpius tired, his magic drained, and very much dreading seeing Rose's parents.
He took a small breath as he rounded the corner to see Rose's parents waiting, worried everywhere in their features, "Mr. And Mrs. Weasley...?" he said looking at them, "She's going to be ok..."
"Thank you" Ron said, Albus had already told them it was Scorpius who was treating Rose.
"Can we see her?" Hermione asked, a very worried look on her face.
"Not until she wakes up... But it shouldn't take too much longer." Scorpius said giving them a small smile though keeping his tone and expressions as professional as he could.
"I'll send a nurse to come and get you, if you are going to continue waiting here... She won't wake for at least another hour or so at the earliest if you want to step outside."
Ron nodded. "Please let us know right away" he said.
…
When Rose woke up about 40 minutes later she practically jumped off the bed, the adrenaline of the moment she'd been attacked back in her body again. She was breathing hard trying to understand what was happening when she saw the person the least expected to see.
"Scorpius?" She said softly very much confused and scared.
"Rose you need to calm down..." Scorpius said softly gently placing a hand on her shoulder to lay her back down, "You were badly hurt..."
"Wha-the killers... I... Were they caught?" She asked trying to even her breathing.
"I don't know..." He said gently, "You will have to ask Albus... I wish I could tell you different..."
Rose nodded softly. "There were... So many" she said softly now more calm but looking still scared.
"It's ok Rose... No one can harm you here..." He said gently wishing there was someway to help her more.
She nodded trying to convince herself, no one was supposed to harm her when she was with the auror either and they had been attacked. "Did you... Are you my healer?"
"I am yes..." Scorpius said with a small nod, his face not giving anything away.
"What happened to me? I just remember that the spell hit me and... It hurt…" she said softly.
"You were hit with powerful and old dark magic... It hadn't been seen used in quiet some time."
"Am I... Am I going to be alright?" She asked looking down at herself.
"It will take a while, but fortunately yes you are going to make a full recovery."
She gave a small sigh of relief. "Thank you" she said softly looking at him.
It was weird to see him now... After everything they'd lived though… He was now a stranger. She didn't know his specialty or if he was with someone... And yet there he was, the same scorpius she'd dated, his hair only a bit longer than he used to keep it, his eyes tired, and a lot more cold and serious.
"I sent a nurse to get your parents, they should be here momentarily..." He said looking her over, "I will be back to check on you later, but if you need anything just ask Morgan..." He gave her a small smile before turning to leave.
"Alright.." She said softly. "And Scorpius..." She said making him turn to look at her. "You should rest, you look tired."
"You need more rest than I do.." He said softly, "You don't need to worry about me..." He gave her another small smile before leaving the room just as Rose's parents entered the room.
"Oh sweetheart! Thank goodness." Hermione said rushing to her daughter's side. Hugo and her father on her other.
…
The next morning Rose woke up as a nurse came to check on her. she'd managed to change into some sweatpants and a t-shirt since the past day after regaining a bit of her strength. Rose was trying to sit up comfortably with the nurse's help when Scorpius arrived.
"Morning.." Rose said softly.
"Good morning.." He said giving her a small nod, "Thank you Morgan I can take it from here." He gave her a smile.
"Only doing my job Scorpius, no need to thank me." She gave him a knowing look. Scorpius and Morgan were a team and so they had a close relationship, and she knew what he was about.
Rose gave him a small smile. "How are you?"
"Alright..." He said writing some stuff down, "How are you? You feeling ok?"
"Yeah... Well I don't know…. I woke up during the night because laid on this side" Rose said signaling to her left side where she'd been hurt the worst. "The nurse said I bled a little but that I should be okay..."
"Let me see..." He said going over to her. He lifted up her shirt slightly so that he could unwrap the bandages.
Rose moved so it was easier for him. "Oh my goddness" she said as she looked at her wound for the first time. Her skin from her ribs to her hips were covered with deep cuts.
"Yeah you were bleeding a little..." Scorpius said softly taking the dirty bandages away, "Don't put you shirt down... " He said allowing the cut to breath for bit while he got knew bandages.
"Will I have scars?" Rose asked softly looking at him.
He grabbed a small potion bottle, a cloth, and new bandages, "This may sting a little.." He said softly placed the cloth on the wounds after he dabbed some of the potion on it, "And you might, but they will be very faint, nothing to worry about..." He said answering her question.
Rose hissed as the potion touched her. "How long will it take for it to heal..?" She asked watching him as he patched her up, amazed of the easiness he possessed as he did so.
"A day or two before we can be sure they won't open up again..." He said as he took the cloth away and gently wrapped the bandage around her.
She gave a small nod. "Is it... Normal... Well I stood up earlier and almost fell."
"Very.. but I wouldn't recommend standing up too often... and make sure someone is with you when you do." He said as he secured the bandage and stood up, "You should be alright for now." He said.
"Thank you..." Rose said giving him a smile. "You think Morgan could sneak me some coffee? My mother refuses to give me some, she says it'll be bad for me."
"Im with your mother on this one." Scorpius said giving her a small smile, "But you can have some tea if you want something."
Rose sighed. "Fine, tea it is..." She said laying her head back down on the pillow. "Maybe I've been drinking too much coffee, I'm having signs of withdrawal" She said joking softly.
Scorpius gave a smalls chuckle, "That can happen. At this point i don't know where I would be without it."
Rose laughed softly. "Awakening potions can get you so far."
"Especially with late night shifts." He said nodding.
"That must be tiring..." She said softly. "At least I sit on a desk and read all night... Which is absolutely fun by the way." She said sarcastically.
"Well it's always interesting.." He said softly.
"I bet" She said "Do you... Have much work now?"
"It's a lull right now.. I only have you and a few other patients..." He said with a shrug.
"Oh nice" she said giving him a smile, continuing after a moment of silence. "So how's life treating you..?" She asked
"Lifes been ok..." He said, turning to look some things over, "How about you?"
"It's been good... I mean... Being the lawyer of the outcasts has it's ups and downs but well... Someone has to do it" she said with a small shrug.
"True..." He said looking at her for a moment
"I feel weird not having Adam or Theresa with me..." She said talking about the aurors that had been assigned to her. "I mean I know the hospital is being guarded but... Well… I'm not going to bother you with this…" she said stoping mid-sentence and giving him a small smile. She'd been very scared since she'd woken up, and despite everything having someone like Scorpius made her feel somehow better about it. The nurse was fine but... She knew Scorpius.
"You're more than welcome to talk..." Scorpius said, he had not much to do until this afternoon so he didn't mind, it passed the time and kept his kind off other things
She shrugged softly, "it's just these months have been hard." she said sighing. "And honestly... I'm scared."
Scorpius walked closer to her his mask falling slightly, "Its understandable..."
"Yeah... They didn't get all the guys you know..." She said softly playing with the small sheet that covered her. "They can hold them all for some time because they attacked me... But they'll have to let go of the ones that didn't do any fatal spells, it's a flaw in the law." She whispered softly. "And there are still two guys out... My best shot is that they attack me again and they are caught... Five aurors came as backup for the attack of five criminals and they only caught three."
Scorpius gave a small sigh, he wanted to say everything would be ok, but he couldn't promise that, "I know that Al is working to make sure they are locked up for a very long time and that they get the others too... and when he's on a mission..." Scorpius said letting the sentence hang there. Al was a very stubborn person when he wanted to be.
Rose gave him a small smile. "yeah..." she said softly. "I hope he doesn't do anything stupid.
Feb 19
"You and me both.." He said with a small chuckle.
"Scorpius... Can you... Maybe stay here a little longer?" She asked and tried not to show her fear too much.
"I wish I could..." He said softly looking at the clock before back at her, "But I have to go look after my other patients... I will be back soon though..."
"Right, yeah, sorry, I keep distracting you from your work.." She apologized with a small smile.
"Don't worry about it..." He said giving her a small smile before grabbing clipboard of the table, "I'll have Morgan come in and check on you in a bit. She's just doing a few things for me." He said.
"Oh no you don't need to bother her."
"If your sure.." He said looking at her for a moment before heading out, "Let me know if you need anything.."
"I will" Rose said giving him a small smile.
