AN: So here is the next challenge chapter I promised you all before I start writing Chimera Luffy. This one is an idea I've had pretty much since I started on FanFiction, but never got around to writing it as other ideas have claimed my attention. The idea behind this challenge is a Naruto/Inuyasha crossover where Naruto is a natural born half-demon like Inuyasha. In this story, Naruto is the son of the nine tailed fox demon Minato and the human Kushina, and he was born around the same time as Inuyasha (so by the time canon starts he'll be around 200 years old but still looks like a teenager). Minato, being one of the more powerful fox demons, had quite a few enemies including some members of his own family for having a half-breed with a human woman. The only exception to this is his even more powerful father, Kurama (so Kurama is Naruto's grandfather in this challenge). At any rate, in order to protect his son and mate, Minato sends Kushina to a secure human village. This, ironically, is the same village that Inuyasha and Izayoi were living in.
The two half-demons meet as kids and later become fast friends, almost like brothers. Years later, when Inuyasha goes searching for the Shikon Jewel, Naruto opts not to do it because he is more proud of being a half-demon than Inuyasha was. When he learns of Inuyasha being sealed by Kikyo, the half fox demon goes and tries to free his friend, but due to the strong demon-repelling spell on the arrow he cannot remove it. So, Naruto promises to keep an ear to the ground if Inuyasha is ever freed before going off into the world. When canon starts, Naruto joins up with the group shortly after meeting Shippo and saves them from a couple demons who tried to attack them after being weakened by the fight with the Thunder Brothers. He then agrees to go along with the group, and along the way he trains Shippo in fox magic so he won't be as weak as he was in canon.
Appearance wise, Naruto will be a cross between Shippo, Inuyasha, and his canon appearance. He'll still have the spiky blond hair, blue eyes, and whisker birthmarks, as well as yellow/red fox ears (overused, I know, but it works), a fox tail, claws, and foxlike legs. He'll also wear an orange kimono (similar to Inuyasha's but with his own twist like a whirlpool sown into the back and the kanji for 9 on one arm). Now ability wise, Naruto will have foxfire, illusions (he'll favor the cloning illusion), and he will also have a sword made by Tōtōsai. The sword though will be unique because it will look just like a normal sword handle, but Naruto can use his fang (which he has in the hilt) as a focus point for his foxfire which causes a flaming sword to appear. Pairing wise, I'm not really sure but please no harems or stealing any of the girls already taken in canon (Kagome and Sango are off limits!).
Again, CHALLENGE people! That means that unless you want this to be a one-shot forever, either you or a friend need to adopt this to continue it! If interested, please let me know either by Review or PM. Let the feudal fairy tale begin!
Dog and Fox, Enter the Half-Breeds
Feudal Era
A young boy, around eight years of age, sat beside a river bank with a depressed look on his face. This was a unique child, as his long hair was as white as snow, is eyes a bright amber color, and two dog like ears poked out of his white locks. This boy's name is Inuyasha, a half-demon born from a human mother and a demon father. His father, a great dog demon who ruled the western lands had died shortly after his birth while his mother was a woman named Izayoi, who was currently raising him in the town a short distance from the river he was at. Inuyasha sighed as he watched some small fish swim back and forth in the water. Earlier that day, he'd tried to play with some of the village children again but they were all ushered away once more by their parents.
As a half-demon, Inuyasha was considered an outcast of society. Humans tended to avoid him while demons despised his very existence. As such, Inuyasha was a lonely child who desperately wanted a friend. But, more than that, is that he didn't want to see his mother sad for him anymore. He'd seen the look on her face when the villagers would reject him or pretend he wasn't there. As the most important person in his life, Inuyasha hated seeing his mother sad like that. So, day after day he tried making friends, both for his and his mother's sake, but each day he got turned away. Now, Inuyasha just sat by the river in the hopes of taking his mind off things.
"Hey, half-breed!" a voice shot out from behind him.
Turning, Inuyasha saw some of the older village children had gathered a short distance from where he was sitting. Judging by how the boys who stood at the front of the group looked like bandits in the making, the half-demon doubted that their intentions were good. He then heard some of the other kids in the group whispering to each other with his above-average hearing.
"He's so weird looking!"
"I heard his father was a demon lord!"
"Do you think he'll attack us?"
"Half-demon, whole demon, they're all evil my mother said."
Inuyasha mentally groaned at this. This had happened a few times before where some village kids would become bold and decide to pick on the 'freak', though normally it was in empty areas in the village and Inuyasha would normally able to just run away from them seeing as he was faster than most human children already. Now though, he was out in the open so he chose to ignore the kids for now. He knew that if he'd attack them, not only would it cause problems later on but his mother would be disappointed in him for striking out, even if they deserved it. So, the dog-eared boy turned his attention back to the river and tried his best to ignore the cat-calling the children did. Fortunately, the children didn't resort to physical threats yet, seeing as they didn't want to risk Inuyasha being like a real demon and eating their hearts or something. He mentally snorted at that, seeing as if he was a full demon like they thought he wouldn't need to be provoked into killing them as most demons were known to be quite blood thirsty.
"Freak!"
"Mongrel, nobody wants you here!"
"I hope a Demon Slayer puts you down like the dog you are!"
Inuyasha closed his eyes and focused on what his mother taught him, 'They're just words, they can't harm me. If I react, I'll just prove them right about me, don't listen…'
"Why don't you take your whore of a mother and leave!"
Oh…no they didn't.
Amber eyes snapping open, Inuyasha turned with a snarl. Lunging at the lead boy who was easily twice his height, Inuyasha used his sharpened claw like nails to run bloody scratches down the front of his shirt. No one, and I mean no one, insults his mother and gets away with it unscathed! Turning to the next boy as the first fell to the ground with a cry, Inuyasha lunged again and clamped onto the other child's arm with his sharpened teeth. As he hung on while the older boy flailed around, Inuyasha felt something hard strike the back of his head, forcing him to let go. Looking behind him, the white haired boy saw one of the children holding a thick stick like a club. Inuyasha was about to launch himself at his attacker before he felt another hard blow to the back of his skull. This one drove the half-demon to his knees as the rest of the children rushed him, kicking, punching and hitting the half-breed with makeshift weapons. Inuyasha would occasionally strike back, causing some kids to fall away with scratches, bruises, and the occasional fractured bone, but the superior numbers soon swarmed him.
After a few minutes of this, the kids backed off to show a highly scuffed up boy laying on the ground groaning. Fortunately for Inuyasha, his demon blood gave him a higher endurance than human's, so the worst of the damage wasn't too severe and he'd easily heal after a night's rest. The children weren't done, however, as the largest one of the group came up and hefted a large stone, easily the size of his head, and stood above the downed dog boy. Inuyasha looked on in fear.
'Am…am I gonna die?' he thought in a panic, trying to get his body to move with no success.
Just as it looked like the boy was going to be bludgeoned to death, however, the area suddenly darkened and the sounds of the river silenced. Confused, the mob looked around while the big child lowered the stone to see what was going on. Suddenly, a large ball of blue flames sprang up in the area only a few feet from Inuyasha, startling all present! The ball of fire then suddenly twisted and warped until it became what could only be described as a snarling fox head. The flaming fox then roared out in a dark, demonic voice, "WHO DARES COME INTO MY TERRITORY?!" spying the trembling children, it gave a feral grin and some of the children lost control of their bladders at the flaming fangs that were bared at them. "AH, CHILDREN, MY FAVORITE DISH!" With that, the head then let out a sound that was like a mix of a roar and laughter. As one, the mob let out a terrified scream and ran as fast as they could back to the village, leaving Inuyasha lying on the ground forgotten and terrified.
Suddenly though, once the bullies had disappeared, the head suddenly dispersed into light wisps of fire before vanishing completely. The laughter, however, continued. It was no longer a dark demonic laugh, but light and mischievous, like a normal child's. Then, a boy in an orange kimono suddenly came into view as if he came out of thin air. The boy was around Inuyasha's age and one thing that was immediately noticeable was his bright yellow hair. The boy also had sky blue eyes, stood around Inuyasha's height, and had whisker-like birthmarks on both of his cheeks. It was then that Inuyasha realized that his rescuer wasn't completely human as he stood on paw like feet, he had a bushy fox tail the same color as his hair, and among the spikey blond hairs stood two foxlike ears that had a streak of red running along their edges.
'Is he a half-demon too?' Inuyasha thought in wonder as he tried to get up, only to wince as his ribs throbbed from where the kids kicked him.
The fox boy noticed the other boy's movements and stopped laughing. Adopting a look of concern, the blond quickly came over to the white-haired boy's position and asked as he helped Inuyasha into a sitting position, "Are you alright?"
Adopting his 'tough' attitude, Inuyasha scoffed, "Feh, it'll take more than what those wimps can dish out to hurt me!" he then gave a sharp yelp as the blond boy gave him a sharp poke in the side, causing his bruises to flare in pain. Turning with a glare, Inuyasha barked out, "What the hell?!"
Giving a dry smile, the whiskered child scolded, "If you're gonna lie, at least try to make it convincing."
Inuyasha gave an inaudible grumble at that before looking once more at the other boy. "Thanks…for saving me I guess," he mumbled.
The boy gave a wide grin at that, showing his sharp canines, and chirped, "No problem! After all, we half-demons gotta stick together, believe it!"
Inuyasha couldn't help but chuckle as the blonde's enthusiasm seemed to be contagious. "Yeah, I guess we do." He then stuck out his hand and said, "Inuyasha."
The fox half-breed smiled and took the other boy's hand, helping him up. "Naruto Uzumaki!" he cheered.
Time Skip (200 years later)
Inuyasha walked through a patch of woods that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. The young man had grown up to look around the age of sixteen, despite being considerably older than that. Appearance wise, the son of a dog demon hadn't changed much besides looking more grown up. The only additions to his looks were a battered looking sword that he wore at his waist in a black sheath and a bead necklace that had purple and white beads. The man gave a huff of annoyance as he called out behind him, "Can you two hurry up?"
"Coming! Sheesh, learn some patience why don't you?" a female voice called as a teenage girl suddenly walked up to the half-demon. This girl's name is Kagome Higurashi, who was fifteen years old and wore curious clothes for the era. This is because Kagome wasn't from this time period but a distant future, and the clothes she wore were her high school uniform.
Suddenly, a small child followed after the girl and spoke in a condescending tone, "Yeah Inuyasha, we just got done with a huge battle. Have a little tact, why don't you?" This boy's name is Shippo, and he's a full blooded fox demon. As such, he too had foxlike feet and a puffy orange tail, but his hair was a bright orange color and his ears, while human, were also pointed. In addition, he wore a blue kimono with white leaves printed on it with a furry vest over top.
Inuyasha growled as he glared to the newest addition to their little group. He and Kagome had only met the young fox demon earlier that day, and he was already working on his last nerve. They'd help the boy avenge his father who was killed by the Thunder Brothers, Hiten and Manten (though Inuyasha, if asked, was in it for the Sacred Jewel shards the brothers had). After a hard fought battle, somehow the little brat had wormed his way into the group and now they were stuck with him. Inuyasha was about to bring his fist down on the little twerps skull when Kagome simply said, "Sit boy!"
Inuyasha suddenly found his face meeting the ground as the Subjugation Beads around his neck reacted to Kagome's command. Getting up with a pained groan, Inuyasha trudged on ahead while trying to ignore Shippo's snickering. Suddenly, Inuyasha's nose twitched and his eyes narrowed. "All right, come on out demon!" he called as his two companions suddenly looked around defensively.
A dark chuckle reverberated through the trees as a warped voice mocked, "Oh-ho, so the little half-demon smelled me, hmm?" Inuyasha's brow twitched at the reminder of his status. The voice continued, "Well, I suppose it matters not. If you wish to live little half-breed, you'll hand me the shards of the Sacred Jewel and continue on your way. I may feel generous and let you go."
A vicious smirk formed on Inuyasha's face. "Feh, come out and face me coward, and then we'll see whose letting who live!" He taunted while gripping the handle of his sword, Tessaiga.
"Hmph, I think not. I saw what you did to the Thunder Brothers back there, and I'd rather take you apart at a distance than risk facing that blade of yours," the voice called back before Inuyasha's sharp ears picked up the sound of whistling air.
"Get down!" he shouted to his two companions while pulling out his blade, which turned into a sword almost as big as he was with a fur covered guard. He brought the flat of the blade around just in time to block the spike like projectiles that were launched at them with a clang. Kagome and Shippo dove to the ground sense Kagome had no more arrows to use to fight and Shippo wasn't a combatant himself. Inuyasha 'Tch'd' as another assault shot forth, a few spikes getting passed his defenses and causing small cuts to appear on his arms and legs.
Inuyasha thought, 'This isn't good. I'm still not a hundred percent yet after that fight and this jackass is moving too much to get a good lock on his scent. And I can't go after him, because he'd probably fire at Kagome and the brat without me here. What do I…?'
"H-hey! What are you-No, STOP!" the hidden demon suddenly yelled, startling the group at the panicked tone he used. Suddenly, there was a shriek that echoed through the woods and then there was silence.
"I-Inuyasha, what's – "Kagome started to say but then Inuyasha hissed, "Idiot, stay down!" Looking into the woods, Inuyasha then said in a serious tone, "Something just killed that demon, I can tell by the smell of blood. I can't pick up any other scents though, so be on your guard."
The other two tensed at that knowledge and looked around nervously. Then, there was a rustling from the bushes and the trio tensed. Out of the bushes, the corpse of a porcupine like demon came tumbling out, causing Shippo and Kagome to let out similar high pitched shrieks. Inuyasha meanwhile tensed as he held Tessaiga in front of him defensively. He called out, "All right, enough fun and games! Whose out there! Come out now or I'm gonna level this entire forest!"
The sound of light chuckling could be heard from the trees and a voice called out, "Aww, and here I thought you liked my tricks Inu!"
Inuyasha froze at that. There was only one person ballsy enough to call him by that nickname. "It can't be," he muttered in his shocked state, "Naru – "
An orange blur suddenly slammed into the half-demon, tackling him to the ground. "INUYASHA!" both Kagome and Shippo cried out in alarm, getting up from their position and running over to their downed friend. What they saw surprised them. A young man, around Inuyasha's age and height, had said half-breed in a headlock and was rubbing the knuckles of his other hand in a noogie. Inuyasha was complaining and cussing out the man while the man just laughed. After getting over the absurdity of the situation, the girl and the fox demon took in the stranger's appearance. His hair was spikey and a bright blond color, which stood out like a sore thumb in this day and age. His eyes were sky blue and had slit pupils, similar to Inuyasha's., while his cheeks both had strange whisker like birthmarks. They then noticed the other features of the man. His nails and canines were sharp like Inuyasha's and his ears were also canine like, but more vulpine than dog. The feet that poked out from his orange kimono were that of a fox, almost like Shippo's, and a bright yellow tail wagged happily behind him. Finally, he had a katana with a spiraling guard strapped to his waist.
It was then the stranger spoke, "Aw man, it's so great to see you Inu! I've been keeping my ears to the ground for when you were unsealed, and speaking of which how in the hell did you get sealed in the first place? Didn't I tell you going after the Shikon Jewel was a bad idea? But did you listen? Nooo, you were all like, 'Oh I could get the jewel and be back before you can blink,' but guess what? Its 50 years later and you still don't have that stupid jewel!"
"Aw shut up Naruto!" Inuyasha barked as he broke free of the blonde's grasp. The two then glared at each other for a minute or two and the tension was so thick you could cut it with a katana, but then both half-demons broke into wide grins and laughed as they grasped each other's arms, shaking them firmly in comradery. "But seriously, you're a sight for sore eyes, Naru."
"Likewise," the now named Naruto agreed before his eyes wandered over to their small audience. "Sooo, are you gonna introduce me to your friends or what?"
Kagome took this as her queue to step forward and bow. Straightening up, she gave a smile and said, "Hello, my name is Kagome Higurashi and this is Shippo," she pointed to the small fox demon who waved with a smile and then continued, "So out of curiosity, who are you? Also, how do you know Inuyasha?"
Naruto grinned and bowed with a flourish, his tail wagging happily, before standing up and pointing to himself with a clawed thumb, "Nice tah meet'cha! The name's Naruto Uzumaki, remember it! As to how I know dog-breath over hear," he ignored the growl as he swung an arm over Inuyasha's shoulder, "We go way back to when we were kids. We've also kept each other out of trouble for the most part."
Inuyasha snorted, "Funny, because I seem to remember pulling your tailed ass out of the fire way more than you've helped me."
Naruto just waved it off and said, "Details. So Inu, would you mind telling me why you're traveling with a human girl and a fox demon kit, 'cause I feel that there's a story here."
After taking nearly half an hour to tell everything that had been going on for the past month, Naruto whistled, "Damn, you've gotten into quite the mess since we parted ways, haven't you Inu?" Inuyasha just rolled his eyes at this and Naruto continued, "Well, it sounds like a fun adventure so count me in!"
"Wait, what?!" Inuyasha cried out as he looked incredulously at his best friend.
Naruto shrugged, "Well, I've actually been kinda bored these past 50 years, and if your stories are to be believed then hanging out with you guys would be a perfect way to relieve the boredom. Why, you don't wanna hang out with me anymore?" Naruto finished with a cute puppy pout.
Inuyasha snorted, "Bah, we've already got one annoying fox in our group," ignoring Shippo's cry of 'Hey!' he continued, "Plus, I thought you had no interest in the Shikon Jewel?"
Kagome then spoke up, "Why not let him join Inuyasha?"
Inuyasha looked over at the girl sharply and she elaborated, "Well, there are going to be a lot of powerful demons and evil humans after the Shikon Jewel like Lady Kaede said, so some extra help couldn't hurt. Plus, it'll be good for Shippo to have another fox demon in the group."
"I'm technically only half fox demon but I'm sure I can teach the little guy a thing or two," Naruto said with a warm chuckle as he ruffled Shippo's hair. Said fox demon grumbled but you could see the happy look in his eyes on having a fellow fox, even if only half fox, with them.
Inuyasha scoffed and crossed his arms stubbornly, "Shows what you know. This guy's just going to be a pain in my ass like he was since we were kids! He's not going with us, and there's not a thing you can say or do to change my mind woman!"
"Inuyasha…" Kagome said lowly, causing the dog boy to gain a nervous look as she was about to say the hated words. "…SIT BOY!"
As Inuyasha crashed into the ground, both Naruto and Shippo's laughter sounded through the woods while Inuyasha could only groan in pain and humiliation. It was just another day in a feudal fairy tale!
