Will ached all over. There was a groan, but he wasn't sure if it was his own. All around him, there were wounded. Once again, he was in this area, where the ill and wounded were treated. The sounds of pain surrounded him, as well as cries of sadness. But from what he could see, no one was mortally wounded. There were only scratches and cuts, and maybe a couple of broken bones. Though there were multiple levels, he was sure that no one was hurt that bad. It hurt to rotate his head. But he continued to do so to scan his surroundings.

His eyes came to the other side when they were met by another pair of eyes. These chestnut-brown eyes belonged to his beloved Larissa. She held his wing, yet he felt no warmth. His body felt numb from pain, and that was all he felt. The worst pain he had in years. He couldn't remember a time where he felt worse. But her presence soothed the pain.

"You are awake, finally" she began. Her eyes were red, and Will knew it was due to crying. "How do you feel?" Her voice was full of concern.

"Terrible" he answered, but it was more like a quiet mumble. She managed a smile, and he tried to return it, but his face would not move. All he could do was talk, and even that took effort. "How long was I out this time?" Her smile changed to a frown. She looked saddened, just as before.

"You worried me much more than the last time. You were unconscious for at least a week." He seemed very surprised. The last time he was knocked out was when he had faced Crone, and that was only for a couple of days. His injuries must have the worst, because all the others were well awake.

"Really?" She nodded slowly, and a smile slowly returned.

"I'm just glad you're back!" She cried, shortly before pulling him into a squeezing hug. If she were any stronger, she may have broken his spine. Though, he didn't even know if it was broken or not. Right now, he could not sit up, so it may have been.

"Y-yeah, I'm glad t-too. Now c-could you l-loosen up a b-bit?" he wheezed.

"Yes, that would be a good idea. You wouldn't want to hurt the hero, would you?" a voice asked from behind. Larissa dropped Will's head, and there was a sudden throbbing pain in the back of his head. But Larissa didn't seem to notice, though Blu did. He cringed when he saw his head hit the block of wood Will laid on.

"Blu!" she gasped. Do you scare Jewel when she's doing something?" Blu's face reddened around the area of his cheeks.

"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to."

"She knows" Will piped up. Larissa nodded, luckily for Blu. She was one of those nervous, and sometimes clumsy, and yet aggressive macaws, and if she was not in a happy mood like now, Blu would've received a hard slap across the face.

Now that he got a better look, Blu looked a lot like how he did after the battle against Crone. But he had less bruises and looked much better. Then again, it had been a longer time since he had been injured in the first place. His feathers had been recently cleaned, Will could tell. There was no trace of blood running from whatever wounds he had. He wondered if the others were the same. They had all taken bad hits. Fortune, Rafael, Cody, Emma...he shot upright at the thought of her name, taking no notice of the pain he felt. The last he saw of her was her face being smashed against the ground. Had she survived? Where was she?

"Where's Emma? How is she?" Blu and Larissa looked at him quizzically. Then he recalled that they did not know her as Emma, but Mema. But another voice cut him short.

"Well, I've got good news and bad news." Zeel limped between the two Spix's standing on one side of Will. His leg was crook, and he had a few dreadful wounds. He was surprised he could still stand, even with the aid of a walking stick. "The good news is that she is recovering. But the bad news is, well...she's lost her memory. Her long term memory." Will sat there stunned. That meant that she would not know him. Or perhaps she would, but wouldn't know what he meant to her in the past. She wouldn't even recall her past.

"So, does that mean that she won't remember being human?" Will asked. He shook his head. If she ever figured out the truth, it would be a major blow to her. So Will came to a decision. For her own safety, she could never know. "No one tells her what she once was. Not even her name. She will remain Mema." Zeel nodded, and limped back out of sight. During the whole conversation, Blu and Larissa showed confused faces.

"Will, who was she?" Larissa queried. Will stared into her eyes, a touch of despair in them.

"A friend. An old friend" he sighed. He could see sympathy in Larissa's expression. The same with Blu.

"That must be hard. Will she remember you?" He shook his head. They bowed their heads in silence. Then, Blu's head turned at the mention of his name.

"That's Jewel. I'd better go help her. I will leave you two." He left without another word. Will watched his mate sit at his side, resting her head on her wings as she gazed into his eyes. Both had expressions with only one emotion showing. Love. She stroked his head, and he rubbed his head along it. She withdrew her wing, then their heads closed in. Once in reach, they closed their eyes and leaped into a long, deep kiss, forgetting all the cares in the world.

It had been a couple of weeks since Will's awakening. He watched from a distance as the entire tribe rushed to the center of the village. He glanced back to see Larissa exit the bird bath chamber. He was at a loss of words. She was stunning. Her feathers glistened against the rays of sunlight that poured in through the entrance. Her head feathers had been smoothed down, save for a couple in the middle of her head. Her hazel eyes really stood out against her blue plumage. His heart was pounding rapidly, but he managed to regain control before he burst a vein.

"Shall we get going?" she asked, standing by his side.

"After you." He waved his wing in a gentlemen-like way, and moved aside. She giggled in amusement and flew out, almost taking him with her. He leaped out, and just before hitting the ground, his wings shot out from his side, and he skimmed above the ground, daringly dodging ferns and logs at the last second before pulling up to join her. He gave him a stern look. But it soon lightened up when she did a full circle around him, catching him off guard. He tried to frown, but it ended up in a grin. He chased her playfully, and she screamed in joy as she flew with haste.

They soon arrived at the center of the grove. It was filled with the tribe. The males went to one side, while the females went to the other side.

"See you in the middle." Before he could respond, she gave him a quick peck. He smiled to himself and took a position next to Blu. Blu handed him a red flower, and he made a swirling red mark on each wing, and a circle on his chest, followed by two more around his eyes.

"Ready?" His friend asked. He had circles around his eyes, but they were somewhat larger. It reminded him of glasses.

"Always." They waited, then the beat began. Shortly after, the song began.

"Let's come together, singing love and harmonia. We are so different, but we're the same inside our hearts. Beautiful colors, just as far as the eye can see, ah. Open your wings, fly when you hear the call."

Will took off, following the others and copying their movements. Down the line, he saw Cody. He seemed a bit out of tune, and his wings were smacking Roberto in the face. It was an accident, but it was still a funny sight to see.

"Let's celebrate, calling all beautiful creatures! Come spread your wings, dance and sing songs about freedom like la-la-la, ooh-ooh! One for the jungle familia, like ba-ba-ba, boom boom, calling all beautiful creatures!"

Will linked up with Larissa in the spinning circle of macaws. She smiled, and he smiled back. He made a spin around her, their eyes never moving away from each other.

"Come this way, celebrate, laugh and dance all the way! Follow me, sing along, la-la-la, ooh-ooh!"

They closed the distance, becoming closer and closer. Will grabbed her in the air and spun, and she rose up high. He saw Blu do the same with Jewel.

"Let's celebrate, calling all beautiful creatures! Come spread your wings, dance and sing songs about freedom like la-la-la, ooh-ooh!"

The song was coming to an end, and their beaks were end to end.

"One for the jungle familia, like ba-ba-ba, boom boom, calling all beautiful creatures!"

And they kissed as everyone else cheered.

"And that's the end of our story" An older Will finished with a smile. He was glad it had come to an end, but others weren't so happy.

"Awww! But there has to be more!" one of his kids cried. He was one of the three kids, and the oldest. His younger brother nodded, and his sister stayed silent. She was the youngest.

"Lucas, no complaining. It's bed time now." He crossed his wings and sat down hard, grumbling something under his breath. "Same goes for you, Roderick."

"Yes papa" the second oldest son replied, and he simply nodded off alongside his brother. Their sister, however, stayed silent, her attention directed somewhere else. Will considered her special. She had been alone, her brothers being born a few months before. And she was always so silent. And when she did talk, it was so quiet, like a whisper in the wind.

"Emma? Is everything okay?" She snapped her head back to him, her face remaining expressionless. But her eyes did not hide her curiosity. "What's the matter?" He sat down to be at eye level with her, since she stood on the edge of the nest, only just reaching his current height.

"In the story, you mentioned someone named Emma. Am I named after her?" Will nodded, smiling happily. But deep inside, he felt sad. He hadn't seen her in a while, ever since she left. "What happened to her?" Will expected such a question.

"She went with Zeel, to train as his apprentice. Cody and Lilian live in Rio, and Jack went back to being human, though he still goes back to bird from time to time, to visit us."

"I like uncle Jack. He's funny." Will chuckled as he heard her quiet giggle. It warmed her heart. But her expression changed back to it's original state. "Will I ever meet her?" Will pondered over the question. Truthfully, he did not know himself. It had been at least a year since they left.

"I don't know. Maybe, one day. Now get some sleep." She yawned and went into the nest, towards the opposite end of her brothers. He watched them sleep peacefully. "This certainly was a gift" he thought to himself. He heard a wing beat outside and turned to meet his mate.

"You got them to sleep" she said, acting surprised. He rolled his eyes.

"Hey, I'm quite capable, so there's no reason to act like it was a hard thing to do." His wings wrapped around her back, and hers did the same, and they held each other closely. "How were they?"

"They're good. They were thankful for us babysitting for them, but Tiago seemed a bit...tipsy."

"I told him to be careful around those juices. They are really strong" he stated. He remembered when those three were kids. Now they had children of their own. It's funny how they beat him to it.

"Now that the kids are asleep, perhaps we could have a little alone time" she suggested before winking.

"Sure." He held one of her wings, and the other went to her side, and the slow danced around the hollow. It went on for several minutes, and soon, the exhausted Larissa passed out in his arms. He carried her over and laid her down carefully. But before joining her, his gaze went to the dark room in the corner. He hadn't been there in what felt like forever. He walked in. It was filled with dead leaves that must have blown in from the main part of the hollow, and had cobwebs going from one end to the other. There was no window, but the moonlight from outside shined in, giving enough light to see. It took some time to reach the other end, where his pack sat against the wall. He pulled stuff out one by one, the first being a small flashlight. Surprisingly, it still worked. He continued to pull things out. He found the small pad used to communicate with Zeel, a small multi-tool for multiple uses, and several other gadgets. But he stopped when he came across something that brought a tear to his eye. A picture he hadn't seen since everyone left.

To the left, there was Bou and Lou. Bou looked as grumpy as ever, but Lou's smile stretched far across her sharp beak, and her eyes were wide with glee. Lilian looked the same, and was being held in Cody's wings, with her own around his neck. He had a small smile, but his scar over his eye made him look sad. Next, Rafael and his family, all smiling. A couple of his kids were attacking each other, and Eva was screeching at them. Nico and Pedro stood next to them, covering their ears as she shrieked. Jack stood towards the back, grinning towards the camera. Zeel leaned on his walking stick, smiling as well. He had rarely been seen smiling, but what surprised Will was Fortune behind him. He had the biggest smile. Blu and Jewel had a wing around each other, the other wings around their kids. Tiago smirked as he had a wing each behind his sister's heads, making a 'bunny ear' gesture. Then, him and Larissa stood beside each other. He had a wing around her back, and another on her round belly. She had both on it. And at the very end, stood Emma. She smiled as well. He put the picture on the floor and looked at the words at the bottom.

"ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY. TOGETHER FOREVER." A tear dropped from his eye, and he carried it back to bed with him, holding it in one wing while the other rested on Larissa. They both smiled happily in their sleep, awaiting the day to come.

And now comes the end to this story. As I typed that final part with the picture, I actually felt like I would cry. It's those moments in movies that hit me the most. I hope you all enjoyed, and I would like to thank all those who supported me in making this story and those who helped build on the Rio fanfic community. A shoutout to all you Rio authors out there: "Great job! You all are inspiring to many others!" . Maybe, I might do another story in Rio. Until then, goodbye :)
