Nintendo created all the characters and places and stuff. I just made the story up. The cover was done by Zeliga of DeviantART
Part One
The sky was painted red. The clouds almost rained blood now. Darkness had entered the world in the manifestation of evil. The King of Evil, Demise. His fire filled hair was a glowing torch on the battlefield; his voice the volume of a powerful mountain lion and his abilities unmatched by any creature that dared face him in battle.
He could parade through any village, his charcoal black cape cleaning the floor as he went and destroy it with a single swing of his sword; a dark silver blade made by the hands of men with a few added touches from his own army. What he lacked was power, the blade he carried had nothing; only welded metal and cloth.
What he needed was a soul.
A forked tongue woman with long silver hair stood at her window admiring the fire that glided across the sky, filling the clouds with ash and soot. She rubbed her swollen stomach and sat down, leaning an elbow on the window sill to continue to watch the fire. The baby inside kicked, it was more active by the day, being ready to take the high place she held. Even though she was a demon, one spawned for Demise's army, she could not help feel nervous about the whole ordeal her body would endure to bring a new generation to the army. Never the less, it was the King's wish she keep her child.
She was fair for someone so deadly, her thin figure was one that had recovered from many a battle and in places, she still carried the scars. The air should have been colder than it was; perhaps it was the blood that soaked the land that prevented snow from falling; the red hot, angry earth refused to let even a speck of the white, pure stuff drop.
Her name was Elera. Demise had chosen that name for her; one of the few of his army who had a name that could be addressed and this would mean that her unborn child would have a name and his rank would be high.
Thunder rumbled overhead, Demise and his army arrived through the gates of the settlement. The mobs bowing low to him as he passed them, some offering him food and drink from platters made of bones but he refused and made his way to the little house where Elera waited impatiently. He opened the door, his large hands almost crushing the door handle.
"The baby?" he asked, his voice echoing
"Not yet, Milord." Elera sighed bowing as best as she could. Demise's face was of neither concern nor anger, mild curiosity was what furrowed up his eyebrows and made his eyes mere slits.
"How long?" another quick question flew
"Tonight." she replied "Milord, why pay attention to this child and not the others born?"
"No concern of yours." Demise muttered, his fingers reaching for the hilt of his blade feeling the detail it carried. "Inform me when the baby is born." he added leaving the room and shutting the door with a half-slam. Demise needed his armies; he couldn't afford a high ranking creature like her out of action. Spending four months off the field was not the best thing and could understand why he was so upfront with wanting to know when the baby would be born but again, that question arose in her head of; why her?
She gathered a small bag and filled it with blankets and food that had been on hand and slung it over her shoulder. It was time to make the journey. She couldn't comfortably have a child here with the army of Darkness hanging around on her front doorstep. Elera took a deep breath and stood with one leg in front of the other, her greyish skin like a little torch in the setting sun and held her arms out before her, her slender fingers tingling and flexing to charm herself away from this place.
It took a few attempts, sparks of yellow and red appeared below her face down palms, she spun a circle in front of her and brought a hand over her head. She vanished in a flurry of diamonds.
Reappearing just outside the settlement she nearly bowled over; the need to sit down grew harder to refuse but she had to move, she had to gain some distance to have her child. Quickly she moved through the blood stained forest; or what was left of it anyway and settled down in a nook where the trees were crowding and safe, picking a spot where she could see someone but they could not see her.
She relaxed herself, leaning back into the tree for support and waited, the lack of comfort and on edginess suggested soon.
Elera had not waited long before she heard the cry of her baby echo through the forest; no doubt that would have caused attention somewhere, never the less she wrapped the child up and brought it to her overheating skin; she was too tired to move even if she wanted to so merely just held her new born close and consoled it quietly. Grey skin upon grey skin.
Her baby boy.
"I will name you, Ghirahim." she sighed brushing a few fingers through his fine white hair.
"I thought you would run." spoke a voice from behind the trees, purple magic surging from their feet
Elera contained her surprise at the fact Demise had appeared from behind the trees "I did not run, Milord. Merely needed privacy."
While Demise was threatening and certainly someone you didn't mess with, Elera had never been afraid of him even if he intruded in on moments he should not. This topped the list. Her baby whined on her chest, little hands by his sides.
"A boy as you predicted?" Demise asked drawing his sword from behind his back, Elera turned her head to look over shoulder; there was nothing but trees and forest.
"Yes." Elera muttered pulling herself up using the tree for support "Milord, I need rest. Alone."
Demise inhaled quietly debating the request, he did not take orders from any one of his generals, however, if Elera was going to play in his plan; he thought it best to heed her wish and leave her be.
"Very well, Elera." Demise spoke flatly "But first, let me see him."
She took a defensive stance holding the boy close to her chest "No." was her only word "Milord, you have paid attention to the child while unborn, diligently in fact. What do you intend to do with him?"
"Nothing you need concern yourself with." Demise sighed showing a few teeth over his lips
"I concern myself because I'm his mother." Elera seethed reaching under the little black cape she wore over her shoulders for a small scabbard which housed a dagger over the base of her spine
Demise charged over, his feet barely making contact with the floor and seized her petite chin in his huge hand; his fingers digging in her cheeks till her lips puckered, yet she still kept a hold of her baby.
"You act like one of those light dwellers sometimes; it makes me sick to see one of my best generals act this way to her commander. New mother or not, when I ask you a question; you answer, when I give you an answer, you don't pry." he snarled throwing her to the ground. Ghirahim began to cry in the blankets as Elera looked up at Demise without fear but with raw malice.
"I am not like one of those pathetic light dwellers!" Elera shouted, the wind making the bushes rustle.
Further down the hill away from the arguing, the Hylian army was settling down to a small meal in a tent covered settlement. Crowded around a fire was the highest decorated senior officer that Hyrule had known; he twisted his face as a Goron covered in brown and black tattoos attempted to drop a rock into the soup that was hanging over the fire.
"I like them warm." the Goron complained rolling it into the fire.
"How can you eat rocks?" asked a small plant creature holding an equally small staff, his tiny eyes looked like mere slits no matter what expression he pulled. "You've been quiet, Link, everything okay?"
"Yes, fine." replied the Hylian leaning on his knees, his ears twitching. "Demise's forces did a number on my squad; I made them fall back to avoid too much loss."
"You rarely fall back." commented the Goron with a snigger "You have a personal grudge against those monsters and that's what fuels your efforts to push them back."
"That and the fact you're a strategist you know everything about weaponry." added the Kikwi brushing down his grass like hair "Slingshots and camouflage are nothing against the nightmare that plagues us."
"Well I think you're being ridiculous." groaned a voice from a small mound of shifting earth
"How so?" Link muttered "Retreat is not a sign of weakness, it saves lives."
"You rely too much on strategy; I can steal a wallet, empty the contents and put it back in the blink of an eye, my Hylian friend." giggled a long furred creature with long red claws, the colour of the earth he dug in. His eyes covered by a fringe showing only a snout poking through. "Find a vein of volcanic ash and presto, they're running for their lives." the Mogma snorted scratching his nose
"And what about the land you're cutting off using that method?" the Goron said rolling his eyes and taking a large bite out of the rock he placed in the fire
"Picky, picky, picky!" the Mogma grumbled flapping a hand towards him "Actually, Link, you'll never believe who I saw up the mountain."
"Demise and a child?" Link replied without pausing, his eyes had turned back to the fire
"Uh…yeah…how'd you know?" the Mogma quizzed scratching his head
"Demise is nearby?!" the Kikwi squealed flopping on his front and sprouting a Deku Baba out of his back in a crop of small leaves, the Deku Baba plant wafted around for a few moments, its gaze locked onto the Mogma, drool dropping from its slightly open mouth.
"We just spent the day trying to get him to leave! Is he planning an attack?!" the Goron yelled dropping the rock on a sleeping creature that sat next to him; it woke in an instant, a blade shot out of its head in alarm and spun around so that he lifted off the ground
"LD-301S Scapper, recharged and awake bzzr!" he roared flailing electrical wires that joined his wrists and body together that he called his arms. The Goron swallowed hard and picked up the rock slowly
"Sorry, Scrapper, I dropped my dinner." he apologised, Scrapper sighed and touched the area that he had been hit on
"Analysis: no damage." Scrapped grumbled to himself "Dzzr! Be more careful, Gotoel!"
"Acoro, you're drooling on me!" hissed the Mogma slapping the Deku Baba away "Link, do something-"
Link had gone.
