Chapter 13
~ Return to Forks ~
"Finally, finally!" Bella crowed, flopping onto her old lumpy mattress as she sifted through the money she'd acquired. The job at the supermarket was more lenient than her other jobs. Spending the rest of her summer working there was probably better than working at the restaurant – especially since the supermarket seemed to be the only one out of three in Phoenix that was around her area. This meant that more people shopped there, a higher wage and maybe even a bonus here and there if she was lucky. And with a pay of $15 per hour, Bella would soon have everything she needed and more!
Currently, she had saved up enough money to buy herself a new cellphone. She had paid off the repairs for her mother's landline a week ago, a gross and undeserved $200 to buy a new phone and to pay $50 after calling an electrician to repair the wires there, but with her mother's new change of rules, the additional $40 weekly allowance had allowed Bella to get a black smartphone, complete with the two-year warranty, chargers and cellphone case – and it only cost her $600 - maximum. Then, her rent at home was, thankfully, only $100 a week. It was difficult to pay for it at first when she had no stable job, but with her job at the supermarket and the chores she did at home, she was able to pay for it!
Yet, she was still upset that she had actually had to work for anything! Her hopes of marrying Edward, marrying into money, and never actually having to work a day in her life had been flushed down the drain ever since that incident. And when her mother's landline had been repaired, her calls towards his cellphone would never go through. Even the calls to the Cullens' residences were not picked up and she had tried day after day after day. She'd had probably called at least fifty times a day! Where the hell were the vampires?! They would never go out! And they could never be hunting every time she called them.
Pausing her irritated thoughts, Bella got up from her creaky bed and springy mattress, and headed over to her beaten dresser. She opened one of the drawers and removed about $100 from her pocket and placed them safely under a shirt. That would be her weekly budget to the supermarket – she still hadn't gotten her mother to lift the cooking ban. Sighing, Bella returned to her bed and fell onto it, wincing when a particular spring had poked her back. Well, it wasn't as if she didn't know how to cook; she'd been cooking for Rene since Rene had started dating Phil.
However, it was a good thing that her mother had retracted the rule of paying for the phone bill – but that was probably because it was only a week between the landline repairs and getting a new cellphone that gave Bella such an advantage. Pretty soon, she would have to pay for her own phone bills and her out-of-state calls, but for now, she would use every hour, every minute, every second to try and reach Edward. Yet, she had to be careful, Rene had already threatened to make her pay her own phone bill when hers had come in over $300 due to out-of-state calls.
But no matter; Edward couldn't ignore her. Not forever. After all, she was returning to Forks in a matter of weeks. And when Edward saw her, wearing the newer and better clothes she'd bought with her hard earned money, Bella was sure he would fall for her all over again, and everything would fall into place.
…..
Charlie sighed as he dropped onto his seat at Forks' police station. It had been a difficult month, or rather two if one were to be more technical about it. Half of his summer had been spent relieving the town from the rumors that had been floating around. Gossip had run rampant like a forest fire, and didn't seem to stop. It was further fueled with Bella's disappearance and soon, the Cullens' trip out of the country with the teens from La Push and the newest residents of Forks, Washington.
But of course, the residents of Forks had to have overheard the Cullens' conversation as the doctor's family did their grocery shopping that particular day. And the rumors had only tapered off as soon as August had come around the corner.
Now, it was the end of August, just about a week before the school year starts. And already, the town was gossiping once more considering the Cullens had yet to return. With the addition of Forks' newest residents having yet to make their mark, everyone was awaiting the clash of Edward Cullen and Isabella Swan's return.
Charlie sighed once more, massaging his temper as a migraine decided to rear its ugly head. He was not looking forward to his daughter returning, and not even his ex-wife's weekly calls had assured him that Bella had yet to give up on Edward.
In fact, it seemed as if Bella was more obsessive in regards to Edward becoming her boyfriend and being reinstated as her fiancé. Nevertheless, his ex-wife had pushed his worries aside. Rene had said that Bella had lost several jobs but had gained a steady one right after and was racking up enough money to return to Forks, pay for a new phone and for her rent, living with her and Phil. She had become a girl of responsibilities – she had changed.
Thinking that her daughter had gone through enough, including her harsh punishment, Rene had given Bella a weekly allowance of $40. The two parents knew that she deserved a harsher punishment, but she was their daughter, their only daughter – and a punishment could only go so far before it was labeled as abuse.
Charlie looked up at the ceiling. What would be categorized as abuse anyway? They weren't beating her, only grounding her in Phoenix. Furrowing his eyebrows, Charlie absentmindedly greeted his partner before starting on the file that was sitting on his desk.
…..
"Ed-Edward!" Harry screamed, releasing the evidence of his arousal all over their chests. Edward grunted and moaned, sucking the junction between Harry's neck and shoulder as his own release splattered upon their bare chests. Edward relaxed over Harry, draping his naked body over his mate's naked state, and took deep breaths. The vampire could feel Harry's heart fluttering quickly from their stimulating activities, but once it leveled off, it was only a tad slower than the usual human heart beat.
Running a hand through his hair, Edward chuckled when Harry complained about the sudden stickiness on their chest.
"Perhaps a condom next time?" Edward wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
"How about no?" Harry retorted, waving a hand to clear them of the sticky stains. "You know I like it when . . . you know," He blushed, hiding his face with a pillow.
"When. . .?" Edward asked, delving under the pillow to stare at his mate.
Harry mumbled his answer, but Edward still heard him loud and clear. He chuckled and kissed his mate sweetly, pulling Harry up and out of their bedroom and into the en-suite.
The gang had returned to Forks two days ago, prompting the new rumors spreading throughout the town. Of course, having only a glimpse of the newest residents when they had first moved, it wasn't hard to see how close the new family was to the Cullens and to the residents at La Push.
Harry, Sirius, Remus and Severus had headed to La Push, making sure their wards on the charmed stones had not weakened in anyway. And although Sam was no longer Alpha of the pack, the man was somewhat reluctantly thankful for the extra protection, allowing him to spend more free time with his fiancée, Emily.
The rest of the pack had split up. The bonded members had swiftly called their girlfriends whilst Jacob, Paul and Seth took Draco, Neville and Luna, respectively, to the Elders. There, they were blessed to begin union amongst the members and thus, forming a relationship with their magical group. Though the Elders were still uncertain and slightly hostile about the Cullens' relationship with them, either directly or indirectly, they allowed for Harry's unperturbed path into La Push.
Of course, the pack had to tell the Elders about them. And showing them proof of magic through the use of their own foci had cemented the fact that perhaps their magic had come from somewhere similar, but different, than those of the Magical World. Sam had frowned upon the sight of the foci, but after learning about the use of it, had remained silent about magic.
This has Harry inviting the shapeshifters back to their manor to continue on with painting and decorating their home. They had left in the middle of it and were barely finished, and the school year was coming up in just a week and a half. The pack accepted and with the speedy assistance of magic, had finished up each room in two days. They were paid heftily and handsomely, even at their own protests that they didn't deserve so much.
But the more they declined, the higher Harry raised their salary and soon, they settled for a good $2000, $200 per person with an extra $200 as tip.
And speaking of decorating, Harry had found a nice little shop in the middle of town. Looking up the real estate agent, Harry had bought the shop without blinking an eye and prompted thrust the ownership of said shop towards his two godfathers and Severus.
"Bonding, remember? You three promised!"
It was difficult to deny Harry when he held Teddy and the child was also looking at them with puppy-dog eyes. Caving in, the three men allowed Harry to hire the pack to help and the shop was finished in about a week's time.
The motif of the shop was focused heavily on magical creatures. The interior of the shop was painted to look like a forest and the magical creatures of the Wizarding World were drawn into the scene. Wooden shelves and furniture lined the walls, yet there was enough room outside of the small little bakery that Harry thought would work well for outside dining during the warmer days.
Remus was a pro at baking, but his skills were used to man the cashier. Severus, as a potions master, humbly accepted the job as the baker/chef, his skills greatly enhanced with the assistance of two house elves. Sirius would man the cashier with Remus, but would mostly take care of Teddy whom would stay besides his parents during their day at the shop. With their new property, it didn't take long for people to become interested in them. After all, what better way to learn about some of the newest residents than to visit the shop they had opened?
…..
A car pulled up to the Cullen's house, and judging by their nonchalance, Harry assumed it was someone they already knew.
Two heart beats later – or for Harry at least, one and a half heart beats later – the sound of a car door opened and slammed such. The pebbles from the roadside crunched underneath someone's shoes – a man, Harry was led to believe – judging by the weight of the crunch and the heaviness of his stride.
The Cullens resumed their activities until their doorbell rang. Carlisle was the one who removed himself from cuddling around Esme, to answer the door.
"Charlie! What a surprise! Come in, come in."
"Uh, thank you, Carlisle."
The vampires heard the front door close, "How was your vacation in Britain?"
"Very enlightening. There were some medical texts that I've been interested in, and I'm glad that they sold them in London."
"That's nice. Hello everyone."
"Charlie," Edward's voice was tense, "How are you?"
"Edward," Brown eyes drifted over to the intertwined hands that connected Fork's new resident with the pale-skinned teenager. "I see you've moved on from my daughter."
Edward nodded tersely. "Yes, I'm very happy with my partner right now."
Harry smiled brilliantly, stepping away from his mate to greet their guest. "Hello, I'm afraid we haven't met. My family and I moved here at the start of the summer. My name is Harry Potter-Black. This is Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom and Draco Malfoy. My guardians, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Severus Snape. This is my godson, Theodore Edward Lupin, but we call him Teddy for short."
Each of his family member nodded in greeting, choosing to remain where they were currently, occupied with their current activity. Teddy giggled and opened and closed his hand in a mock wave, earning a small smile from Charlie.
"Welcome to Forks," Charlie smiled. It was as pained a smile as the Cullens thought it would be. It seemed as if the Chief of Police had settled with the news that they were never going to be family, but family friends was the highest level of connection he would have with them.
"If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask."
"Thank you," Harry smiled, before drawing Edward back to their seat to finish up some reading. This prompted the other teens to return to their own activity, leaving Charlie to deal with Carlisle.
"I just came to tell you that Bella won't be arriving at Forks for another two weeks." Charlie announced, and inside, the vampires were shrieking with joy. They wouldn't have to deal with the she-devil for a while. Their vacation was complete with that sentence.
Esme walked up to the two men and smiled, "Thank you for telling us, Charlie. Would you like to have a cup of tea?"
"Oh, no thank you." He smiled then blinked before looking down and looking back up. "Oh! I suppose congratulations are in order?"
The Cullen parents smiled brightly, "Thank you, Charlie. But are you sure you can't stay for some tea?"
The human shook his head, "No, I have to get back to the station. I just thought I'd let you guys know."
"Thank you." Carlisle said, following the man to the door. "Drive safely."
With a nod of his head, Charlie left the residence and property and only then did the vampires and wizards burst into a flurry of activity.
"Thank god she won't be here. She would've been a nightmare." Rosalie said sourly.
"Who's she?" Harry asked, accepting Teddy from Remus's arms when the baby made grabbing motions in his godfather's direction.
"Don't worry about it." Rosalie said, fondly running her fingers through Teddy's small tuft of hair. She kissed his forehead and allowed the baby to grab at her curly blonde hair. "All you need to know is that she will not be bothering us anymore."
Easily putting it away into the back of his head, Harry withdrew from his thoughts and prompted a small tickling game with his happily shrieking and drooling godson.
…..
"Dad! I'm home!" Jacob shouted. He heard the sound of wheels rolling across their wooden planked floor as Billy Black rounded the final corner to see his son at the doorway.
"Jacob! Son!" Billy enveloped Jacob's burly body in a hug before pulling back to examine him. "Have you gained weight?"
"Dad," Jacob rolled his eyes. "I've got so much to tell you!"
"Good! We have an Elders' meeting tonight, and the pack was supposed to be here for it anyway." Billy declared, rolling backwards to head to the living room. "How was your trip?"
Jacob sat on the couch and told his father about the sights he saw, the ambient feel of magic and the things he ate there that were unlike the food he'd ever tasted. He told his father about the clothes they had to change into to fit in, the house elves that worked there to do things normal witches and wizards expected them to do. Things of that nature fascinated Billy, but what was most important of all was the fact that Jacob had spoken of Sirius Black.
Billy didn't know if they had had a relation to him, but quite frankly, it didn't bother him that much.
"The more family, the merrier!" Billy said, at the end of their conversation. Looking up at the clock above their dining table, Billy nodded his head. "All right. Let's go. We should be getting there now."
Jacob helped his father into his car and drove all the way to La Push where the other elders and pack members were starting to trickle in.
Once everyone arrived, Jacob and the rest of the pack members bar Sam, revisited their conversation about their trip and the looks of surprise were amusing to say the least. There were disbelief amongst their audience, but it was understandable.
The only reason they were so forthcoming about their little sudden adventure, as they had strongly emphasized before telling the Elders, Emily, Sam and the pack members' imprintees, was the fact that Harry had spelled the pack members that had already known, with a spell that was similar to the Fidelius Charm, but had a different function that would allow certain people to know, per individual.
This meant that Jacob could only tell their secret to one individual minimum, but five people maximum. And since that was the same for the rest of the pack, it was easy to tell everyone already there. However, the spell stopped there for those that would learn of their secrets – binding the knowledge to only the people there; thereby, making sure that the secret would not be leaked to anyone else. It was spelled to tell those according to those that they were of pack's blood and their imprintees – so family members and their imprintees were in the know, but other members outside of their pack and blood would know nothing.
A pretty nifty spell that Harry had found from within one of the Gryffindor vaults, if you asked Harry.
"So, what you're telling me, is that just waving your little stick thingies –" Emily started.
"Not stick thingies," Leah said, rolling her eyes. Raising her hand set a trend that the other pack members followed. "We have focus rings, which enhance our ability to use what Harry and his family call, magic. Sure, we're not going to be masters in any field, but we learn the basics of everything. And when it comes to rogue vampires, it's better to have other skills in our repertoire."
"So, you don't believe that our wolves will protect our people from those blood suckers?" Sam asked.
"We're not saying that," Jacob cut in. "We can't just rely on our wolves. You've seen how many die even when fighting against them. If we can have an edge anyhow, it's good to use it our advantage."
The tension was noticeable, rising between Sam and the rest of the pack. But the Elders were indifferent, silently discussing the news through their eyes.
"We understand. Please give us time to speak about this. Other than that, the meeting is adjourned."
…..
The week before school was spent together with both the vampires and the shapeshifters. The Elders had given permission to create wards around each of their houses, including the residences of the pack members and their imprints.
Harry, Draco, Severus, Luna, Neville, Sirius and Remus gathered together and went around casting ward after ward around the perimeter of the Elders, pack members and imprints' residences. Because seven was a magically strong and powerful number, the seven of them made for a remarkably formidable picture as they spaced out in circles and started chanting spells in unison.
Even little Teddy was cooing and clapping his hands at the rainbow colors that flickered in the atmosphere around the buildings, laughing whenever the sunlight had reflected against the wards, creating sparkling glimmers of vividly radiant colorations across his skin. His hair and eyes would change as soon as he saw those colors, earning some 'awww'-ing from the females in the group.
Sam was slowly getting used to the idea of magic, and it helped that Harry had taken him to see if he would have enough magic to acquire a focus ring of his own. He did – because he was strong enough to become an alpha of a pack, and because he had the blood of an alpha wolf.
"So you weren't just angry with them – just jealous?" Emily scoffed.
Sam sheepishly but sincerely apologized to Harry, to Jacob, to everyone he had lost his temper with regarding this topic. With the focus ring on his finger, he can now feel the magic running through his veins – making him feel stronger and more able to protect his family and friends and especially the residents of La Push.
The small bakery in the middle of the small town of Forks was also down being renovated. The menu was currently being decided upon and the grand opening would be on the first day of the children's school year.
It was going to be a good year.
…..
Pulling up into the school's parking lot had sent loud whispers throughout the student population. The males were filled with awe and jealousy, eyeing the cars with fascination and shock. Once the drivers had left their seat, the girls were green-eyed with jealousy, eyeing the only blond girl that seemed to be close to the three boys that walked towards the two youngest and remaining Cullens.
"So these are the people that spent the summer with the Cullens?" Jessica asked rhetorically. "I wouldn't mind if they spent the holidays with me."
The blond looked like an aristocrat, with perfectly gelled hair, pale skin, molten silver grey eyes, fine features and a lithe body covered up by a nice buttoned down shirt, which seemed to flow with every movement – something that Draco insisted needed to be made from the richest of Acromantula silk, a freshly ironed pair of black slacks made from Egyptian cotton and dragon hide boots – not that the muggles knew what it was made from. The custom made Swedish watch around his wrist gleamed brightly, even in the dull weather that had hidden the sun behind the gray clouds. However, he was not the only one that screamed of wealth and prestige.
The tall brunette besides him was beefy, but in a way that didn't seem to dwarf the rest of his body. He was more supple than he was muscular, and not muscular enough to be considered the type to be a muscle maniac. Just a bit of muscle on bones. The tall brunette had tanned skin, a strong jawline, high cheekbones, a sexy smile and still had a little bit of baby fat left on his cheeks. Unlike his pale counterpart who wore formal clothes, the hazel-eyed teenager donned a polo shirt, a pair of ripped jeans and sneakers. The only thing that screamed wealth was the fact that his clothes were all of designer brands, including the wristwatch around his right wrist. The only thing that seemed to be handmade was the hand woven bracelet around his left wrist.
The remaining blond in their group was the short female with the same molten silver grey eyes – she was probably her male counterpart's twin sister, that was anybody's guess after taking a good look at the two blondes, considering they both had such aristocratic features; though the girl's had a softer version of it. Like her blond counterpart, it seemed that she too, had splurged a formal looking outfit.
She wore a long sleeve printed high-low blouse and a 'leaves' embellished fitted skirt – both, a part of the Versace collection, and a pair of Dior ankle boots in tejus effect calfskin and crocodile, in a black and metallic white colour. The Valentino flower printed leather, rockstud medium tote hanging off of her arm practically completed her appearance of a model that seemed to walk out of a fashion magazine. Even the pair of diamond earrings, sterling silver heart locket and wavy bun seemed to magnify her model like physique. Though, no one would disagree that the only thing that wasn't model-eqsue about her was her five-foot five inches height.
Lastly was the raven that, like his three companions, was admittedly gorgeous and aristocratic looking. He had dark windswept hair, pale skin and soft, slightly feminine looking features, though it was easily discernable that he was, in fact, a male. The bright green eyes were the things that seemed to draw in his audience's attention – more so than the rich attire he donned. He had a Gucci cashmere sweater over a baby blue collared shirt, black denim pants and a pair of loafers. To end his attire, around his wrist was a black wrist cuff with the Cullen crest engraved upon it – startling the group of onlookers who knew that the Cullens were a very private and solitary group.
"Edward!"
"Harry," The vampire smiled, drawing his mate into his arms. This action broke the quiet murmurs, starting up the gossip mill around school. Of course, the Cullens and the four new students ignored the phenomena; they were quite used to it.
Alice and Edward escorted the four to the office, awaiting their schedules. After all, Alice and Luna had foreseen that both Alice and Edward would have class with at least two of them – which two, they had had to wait for today to find out.
"Name?"
"Harry Potter-Black," Harry introduced himself, "And this is Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood and Draco Malfoy."
"Oh, the four new students." The receptionist smiled, eyeing their clothes with wide eyes. She quickly printed out their schedules and handed them over, "finally" noticing the two Cullens there, before she asked them to take the new students to their classes.
"Have a nice day!"
"Thank you!" Four voices chorused back before the door closed behind them.
…..
Draco snatched Harry's timetable from his hands and hummed. "Instead of Music, I have Art and instead of Spanish 3, I have French 3. The rest of our classes are the same."
Luna and Neville had a different schedule than Harry and Draco, but they had classes with Alice while Harry had classes with Edward.
"You're helping me with these classes, right?" Harry looked up at his mate. He earned a chuckle and a nod and the group separated to head to their classes.
Harry's first teacher had him stand in front of the class and introduce himself. While Harry sulked inwardly, he did as he was told.
"Hello, my name is Harry Potter-Black, I just moved to Forks with my family. It's nice to meet you."
"Anything else you'd like to say to the class?"
Harry shook his head and with a nod, the teacher sat him besides Edward. Harry felt all eyes boring into his skin and when he turned around, the students had turned away, though some had unashamedly continued to stare.
"Are they always like this?" Harry whispered, listening to his teacher call the class's attention back to him.
"Yes, but you'll get used to it."
"I don't think I'll ever get used to being in the spotlight," Harry murmured, scooting further down into his seat.
…..
Harry grumbled and shoved his books into his bag. He barely had enough time to lift it over his shoulder when Edward offered to take it upon himself to hold Harry's things. Despite the fact that it would draw more rumors and gossip to their person, Edward easily had Harry's hand grasped within his own, walking alongside his mate as they made their way to lunch. He kept quite though, knowing that Harry was in a little temper tantrum, annoyed that he had had to go to muggle school despite not attending for nearly a decade.
"It'll be fine," The vampire promised, his thumb rubbing over the back of Harry's hand comfortingly, "Whatever you don't know, we'll help you. We've done this plenty of times."
"Will you help me cheat on a test?" Harry pouted. Though Edward was more than happy to do anything to help Harry, the wizard knew that Carlisle and Esme would, more than likely, frown upon their actions.
Edward playfully rolled his eyes and drew Harry to their table – the Cullens' table. Alice, Luna, Draco and Neville were already there, lunch trays in front of them even though none of them had touched the food.
"Way to take so long, Potter," Draco snarked, "Now give us some real food."
"Right away, your highness." Harry drew out several lunchboxes, ignoring the pointed looks from the vampires. It was usual for them to see the undetectable expansion charm in use, but to have it done so freely, in such an open space where muggles were trying to linger around their table, was not condoned lightly.
But Draco didn't care.
The blond took his portion from Harry before settling down for a nice and fulfilling lunch. Nothing like those disgusting meals they called a school lunch.
"I wish they'd stop staring at us," Harry whispered, feeling the eyes of every student in the lunchroom.
"I wish the end of the day came faster." Draco scowled. "Can you believe that French teacher didn't believe I'd taken French? Please; clearly she doesn't know the roots of my name Malfoy. And then, she had the gall to yell at me for being in her class and showing her up! "
…..
"I'm not doing the homework." Harry stated, firm on his stance.
Edward raised an eyebrow, and sidled up to him. "Then how will you pass?"
Harry slapped away the wandering hand and glared up at his mate, "I shall not pass. I only care about the education in the magical world. And so far, I've done everything."
"Except for your last year."
"Yes! And I'm self studying for it. I won't fail. They can't fail me."
"Well, aren't you confident." Edward murmured, drawing his pouting mate close to his chest. "How about I help you then?"
"Do it for me?" Harry asked, emerald eyes as big and round as he could make it, his lower lip jutting out in a small pout.
"No," Edward nearly wilted when Harry frowned. But he had to be firm. "If I help you, what would happen if the teachers asked you questions during class?"
"You'll whisper them to me before I answer them. They can't hear you."
"I won't do that."
Harry looked at him with large puppy dog eyes, lips jutting out in a pout that nearly had Edward undone. And for a second, Edward had nearly given in. It was one thing to see his sisters attempt such a maneuver on their own lovers; it was another to see his own lover do so to him.
"I'll teach you," Edward finally said.
Harry huffed but nodded his head, "Well, all right. I can see I won't be beat here."
…..
A loud rumbling and echoing backfire of some vehicle had brought Edward from his happy vibe. Harry noticed it right away, looking at his mate with concern – concern that quickly changed to confusion when Edward kissed away his frown.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang to the Cullen's residence, prompting the attention of all the residents within their home.
"Who is it?" Harry asked, sitting atop Edward's lap when he felt his mate stiffen up.
"I told her she wasn't invited," Edward growled, moving to tighten his grasp around Harry's waist. Their vacation was such fun and it was even better, knowing that she'd be gone for another week or so. But it was inevitable, as their little annoyance to their backside was currently residing with her father.
The vampires remained unphased, waiting for their uninvited guest to take her leave, knowing that she wouldn't but still hoping she would when they wouldn't answer the door. Only after several minutes of continuous doorbell ringing did Rosalie stand from her seat across Harry and march towards the door. Opening, she blocked the person there.
"Oh look, a slag." Looking down at their unwelcomed guest, she snarled. "What are you doing here? I thought Edward and Alice told you that you were not to come ever again."
Harry couldn't see around Rosalie, no matter how much he tried to maneuver around her figure. And Edward's insistent hold on his waist prevented further movement. "Who is it, Edward?"
"Edward!" Somehow, Bella had managed to push pass a rock solid Rosalie and stopped only a few feet from where the rest of the family was sitting. "Wha- Who are you and why are you sitting on my fiancé?" She shrieked.
The girl was wearing a red low cut top that covered little and seemed to hang by the thin spaghetti straps around her neck. Her skirt was just slightly covering her butt and the high knee boots made her look more like a stripper at a corner than what, Harry thought, she was going for – sexy and alluring. Even her makeup was awkwardly done, as if she had had no experience – which the Cullens knew she didn't, considering the Isabella Swan they knew had hated wearing skirts and putting on makeup.
"Is this really her?"
"Sadly, yes." Edward said, answering the disbelief in his mate's voice.
"Wow," Harry turned away, "What a slut."
"EXCUSE ME?"
Harry clutched his arms around Edward firmly, glowering at the human standing before him even as he snuggled into his mate's embrace. "You don't deserve to know my name, especially since you were so rude and have entered the Cullen's home without an invitation. And for your information, Edward is not your fiancé."
Edward managed a small smile, kissing Harry's cheek as his mate rested his head against his shoulder. "That's right. I am not your fiancé anymore. You have lost that right months ago. I'm glad I found out that you only wished to marry me for money, for if I had not known that very day, I would not have met my true mate. You are nothing compared to him."
"Mate?" She croaked, eyes wide with disbelief. Then Bella screeched once more, stomping her feet on the floor. "You can't be gay!" She cried out hysterically. "Edward is mine! He belongs to me! Our wedding is in a few months!"
Harry mock whispered in Edward's ear, knowing that only the vampires in their home would be able to hear him. "This is the crazy bint that you wanted to marry? What happened? Did she do something to you?"
"I only thought she was the one for me because I had to protect her from the rogue vampires that wanted to kill her. My interest in her stemmed from the fact that I could not read her mind."
Harry blinked in surprise, "Really?" He swung his legs a few times, in a childlike fashion and hummed.
Staring straight at Bella's eyes, Harry entered her mind and felt a mental barrier, but it wasn't strong enough to bear the brunt of his power and so, he easily pushed through, hearing her thoughts. With a pulse of magic, he allowed for her thoughts to be projected towards everyone in the room.
Hearing them, the vampires grew disgusted at how the seemingly innocent brunette they had known for a good three and a half years, was actually a greedy, vile and black hearted girl.
"There," Harry chirped, ignoring Bella's raging temper as she screamed profanities at him. "Now you should be able to hear her thoughts with no problem."
And it was true. Whatever Harry had done to Bella had allowed Edward to read her mind just like anyone else he had encountered. Now that the problem was solved, Bella was no more interesting than a regular person that a normal individual would come across and that was what she hated more than anything else in the world: to be normal, to be a no body, to be unknown.
"How could you do this to me, Edward?" Bella sniffled. "What is going to happen to me? To Charlie when the Volturi finds out that you haven't changed me?"
Edward narrowed his eyes, "That's a low blow, but I'm sure we can handle it. After all, Aro is nothing if not unreasonable. I'm sure he'll understand what has happened."
Tears were exchanged for a burning fire as Bella stamped her feet onto the ground once more. "You can't do this to me! I was your first love! Your only love! Your one and only mate! How could you let me die of old age?! We were supposed to be together! Forever! All of eternity!"
Harry mock gagged in her direction, smirking when Edward snickered into his neck, hearing Bella's heart beating furiously within her chest.
"Forever? Really, Edward?"
The copper-haired vampire sighed, "I believe my thirst was clouding my vision. At least now I can see clearly. I'm so glad."
"Edward doesn't have to listen to you," Rosalie scowled. "He's already found the one who has his heart and I'm glad it's not a little snot-nosed brat like you."
"Shut up!" Bella shrieked. "We were supposed to get married after graduation! Now it'll never happen because of that – that –"
"Bye-bye now. We have no need for a wretched twat who only thinks about herself." Harry smiled innocently, making shooing motions. "Oh, and if you needed money to return to Forks, that getup won't get you attention, even from the most desperate that walk amongst street corners."
Alice smiled and stood up, helping Rosalie herd the stunned girl out of their house. "You heard Edward's mate. Bye-bye." She slammed the door in Bella's face, feeling a sense of satisfaction when she heard her squeak in surprise at the sudden force.
"Now that the garbage has been taken out, shall we relax some more?" Esme asked, carrying out a plateful of brownies. Jasper quickly stood up to relieve her of that miniscule weight, but Esme thanked him nonetheless, hand automatically rubbing over her pregnant stomach.
…..
"… the skirt was on sale, but I just had to have it. $200 is nothing; I mean, have you seen the design on this? And the material? Oh, and I got these shoes from – oh," she paused and looked at them condescendingly, "Well – you wouldn't know of the company. Only the people within the circle knows, but my mom has an in with their director, and I got these shoes for free." Bella said smugly, relishing in attention she believed she was receiving.
Jessica and Angela shared a look before silently snorting at their ex-friend's arrogance. Like they would believe her story. She had been shipped off to her mother's, and her parents would allow their daughter to dress like a street-corner hooker? Okay.
A loud engine roaring to life, drew the loitering students' attention. Of course, they've heard of the engine revving for the past two weeks. It was no news who that vehicle belonged to, but it didn't stop the guys from admiring the beauties that entered their dull school parking lot; nor did it stop the girls from gushing over how rich the new residents of Forks were.
The famous Cullens and the new residents of Forks arrived to Fork High School in style, as always. As they exited their automobiles paired up like they had been for the past two weeks, no one had bothered to gossip about their relationships – only about their clothing and appearances.
Bella snarled after their backs, "That one – the one with the green eyes. He stole Edward away from me."
"Um, I thought that happened because Edward found you sleeping with a minor." Angela commented, turning away with a whimsical smile when the brunette turned to growl at her.
"Do you know the other three with him?" Jessica prodded.
Bella scoffed, "Why would I? They're all hideously dressed anyway."
Jessica and Angela shared a look, both sharing the same thoughts. After all, Bella looked akin to a clown compared to the four gorgeous new students that arrived at Forks High School just two weeks ago.
As usual, the Cullens and the new students had on the highest-brands of fashion. They screamed of wealth and luxury, and the students would do anything to at least become friends with them. And when the returned-from-exile Bella Swan saw Harry's hand intimately linked together with Edward's pale one, she stomped on the ground, ignoring the pain that had shot up to her ankle.
A shrill shriek did nothing but upset the hearing of those around a seething, jealous Bella, who stomped into the school in those high heels of hers. There were some chuckles though when she had stumbled every so often – clearly she was not well versed in walking in them. And when she got to the entrance, she had expected Mike to open the door for her, but when she turned around, no one had followed her.
She was alone.
Another frustrated shriek and Bella stomped her foot – breaking the heels of the, now revealed, knock off shoes that she had proclaimed to her friends were from such a large brand name company, it was practically nonexistent due to how secretive it was. It was with an embarrassed face that she hobbled into the school and hearing the students exploded in laughter, echoing after her.
Harry clicked his tongue, "I wish she would've broken her ankle."
Edward had to bow his head to hide his laughter from the student population, but it didn't help that his shoulders were shaking.
"It's true, isn't it? Isn't that what you all thought too?"
Their group burst into laughter, shocking the students once more, as they had never seen the Cullens laugh. Ever. And the morning bell interrupted their fascination with the new students.
…..
"Honestly, who is she trying to fool?" Harry whispered, pursing his lips. He'd ignored the fact that Bella was constantly trying to catch Edward's attention, but boy was he glad that the little human's was far from him and Edward.
"Someone should just kill her," Draco responded haughtily. He sniffed his response, glaring daggers at the girl who sat outside of her group of friends. Edward had told them that she was friends with Jessica, Mike and the rest of the so-called "popular" group, but not once did they see her interact with them throughout lunch.
It was actually quite scary to see Neville grin evilly, his hazel eyes already shining with contained thoughts of Bella's downfall. Edward shook his head; he wished it was that easy, but he couldn't help but agree that Neville's plan was quite acceptable.
"We could implement it," Luna piped up, smiling with focused eyes narrowed at the girl who threatened Harry's happiness.
Edward seemed to be the only one who actually wanted to protect Bella, even though she was the cause of all his problems and luck. The vampire quickly held Luna's arm down underneath the table, where the blond's hand had gripped onto her wand and was slowly raising it above table level.
"Not here," Edward hissed.
Draco chuckled, "Do it where no one will be able to see you," Luna's blond counterpart advised. "Not that there's any problem with doing it in public. These muggles won't be able to see through a Disillusionment charm."
When Harry perked up, Edward had to distract his mate from charming the Ravenclaw. Thankfully, the lunch bell rang once more and everyone was ushered off to the rest of his or her classes.
