A/N: Whelp, I had this idea strike me a while ago for one-shot and I finally finished, though a bit shorter than my usual.
I still do not own Fire Emblem, even if I now own a couple more games since I started writing.
Robin grimaced as he glanced over the map of Valm, his chess pieces dotting the map as probable locations for the enemy. Normally he would be able to concentrate better, but his mind had been drifting off to a certain group of relatively new recruits.
"I don't think relying on you to scowl at the enemy forces is a good battle strategy," Chrom commented as Robin sighed before turning to his best friend.
"Chrom, I know that this going to seem to be a strange question, but how did you do so well raising your children?"
"Robin, baby Lucina is only a few months old, my two other daughters haven't told me that much about their childhood."
"Besides raising a Pega-princess pony, you mean?" Robin questioned as Chrom scowled at him. When Cynthia had been found, he had overheard Chrom's attempts to convince his daughter about his real identity. "That's just it, the worst thing you can say about your children is that Cynthia's overenthusiastic. While mineā¦"
"Well, Morgan seems nice enough." Chrom went for the obvious as Robin rubbed at his forehead. "Are your headaches coming back?"
"Not the same type of headache, I haven't had any of those since we left Plegia. That is beside the point, Morgan seems nice to you because she knows you're the leader, and besides, she might think you're like Lucina and don't get a joke." Chrom frowned as Robin continued, "Frederick had a little conversation with me about Morgan. It seems that not only is she attempting to drop me down a hole that might have seriously injured someone, she is now tormenting Yarne enough that Frederick is willing to force her through a full day of Frederick's Fanatically Fitness Hour." The two shuddered at the thought of such torment as Chrom continued,
"Are you sure Frederick's not just being overly protective? Yarne seems to jump at just about anything." Robin stood up and started to pace.
"And don't get me started on Severa. If it was just the grumpy personality and being sarcastic that would be fine, understandable even. But there are these times, where she just seems furious with Cordelia."
"Perhaps Cordelia has a better idea, or have you asked Severa about it?" Robin paused in his pacing as Chrom stood up. "Either way, it seems like you aren't getting any work done, so why don't you go find Cordelia and talk?" His tone suggested that it was not just a suggestion as Robin nodded and walk out. Chrom was right after all, his wife was a genius. Fortunately, she was no longer concerned with being called a genius. When they announced their engagement, they had been the named the genius couple, which had grown old fast, which meant both Nowi and Vaike had beaten it to death twice. Of course Vaike had also been annoying about certain other comments that hadn't made since to him, which he quickly ignored.
"Robin, is something the matter?" He smiled as he turned to see his wife, who was carrying a pile of broken training weapons for repair.
"Do you need some help with those?" He moved to match her pace.
"I would be grateful if you could help sort them."
"I assume you are going to be fixing some of these then?"
"Correct, after all, we won't have the luxury to shop for more. I didn't realize you had a heading so quickly, Chrom must be thrilled."
"Must it always be about Chrom with you, mother?" Severa complained as the couple stopped and turned as Robin noticed that their older daughter glared at her mother.
"Severa, is that how you act towards your mother?" Robin questioned as she flinched before rolling her eyes.
"Sorry, mother," Severa remarked before stomping away. The two parents shook their heads before continuing on in silence.
Upon reaching their destination, they started the tedious task of sorting the practice weapons in two piles, those that could be saved and those that couldn't.
"Now if only understanding our daughters was this easy." Cordelia commented as Robin smiled while ruefully shaking his head.
"I just wish I knew why she was so mad at you. At first I thought it was she just missed you and didn't know how to handle her grief."
"I do know that she doesn't like being compared to me." Cordelia offered as Robin shook his head.
"She's a different type of mad though, as though you did something wrong. We'll just have to make it work, she can't stay mad at such a beautiful angel for long." Robin beamed at her, as she blushed while continuing to work on the last pile of weapons.
"Flatterer, you have been hanging around Virion too long." Robin continued to beam as he walked closer while she continued, "besides, I don't think that my being a 'beautiful angel' will work very well on her-mwurph." Her point being interrupted as he started to kiss her.
"Oh are you going to be working on Severa soon?" Morgan commented as the two sprang apart as Robin stared at his youngest child. "Oh wait, I should probably leave if that is the case."
"Where did you get that idea?" Robin stared at her daughter.
"Well since Henry mentioned that he needs to work on-"
"That's enough, I think we understand," Cordelia interrupted. "We do actually want to talk to you."
"Sure." Morgan chirped as Cordelia sighed.
"Frederick has mentioned that you have been tormenting Yarne, is that true and why?" Robin questioned as Morgan tapped her chin before replying,
"Well not really tormenting, but he just has cutest expression when he winces. Also, he has very petable ears, it's really his fault." She explained as the parents stared, neither one quite knowing how to respond. "I'll see you at tactics practice, father, good-bye mother."
"She still doesn't remember me," Cordelia sighed as Robin continued to hold her. "We really do need to finish cleaning up first." He nodded as they went back the remaining piles of weapons. Perhaps he might need to deal with her inferiority complex about her mother. At least Morgan saw him as a goal to surpass and each loss as a learning experience.
OoOoO
Robin stood in front of his eldest daughter, his sword at the ready as she scowled. "Are you alright, dear?" She muttered to herself as he had a guess it was another comment about being compared to her mother. He grinned as he had an idea, though he might be in the doghouse with Cordelia when she found out. "So we fight to disarm or yielding correct?" She nodded before charging at him as he took off running away from the training yard as he heard a "how annoying" as he heard her rushing after him. He ignored the squawks of surprise and annoyance as rarely did the spars leave the practice arena. After almost running over Lucina, he dodged around a tree to slow himself as Severa slowed before their practice swords collided as the spar went on. He grunted with exertion as he continued to grin at his eldest daughter. She was more annoyed than winded and he could tell how this spar was going to end. After barely blocking another swing as she swung her shield at him, he backpedaled before stumbling and falling to the ground. Dropping his sword and raising his hands, he could see her shake her head at him, though she was beaming.
"What was that nonsense of running away at the beginning, daddy?" She complained as she helped him up. He quickly wrapped her up in a hug as she grumbled slightly.
"Well, obviously if you were just an inferior copy of your mother, you couldn't have kept up," he replied as she pushed away from him and stared at him like he was acting like Henry. "You don't know why your mother joined the pegasus knights?"
"Because she's the perfect knight and can do no wrong," she replied sarcastically as Robin smirked,
"Wrong, she actually doesn't have the stamina for long distance running, if I had done that to her in a spar she would have been still standing at the sparring arena." He paused before looking around. "Don't tell her that I told you that, please." At that, Severa giggled as Robin started to laugh. Once they both composed themselves, Severa fiddled with one of her pigtails before speaking,
"She's going to break your heart and I don't want to see it happen again." Robin frowned as his daughter started walking off. The only thing he could think of was she died, as he was sure that he would easily blame himself for letting her die because of his tactics. Though with the fact his eldest walking away, it seemed that she would not be anymore forth coming about her future worries. Either way, he would have to make sure that he kept everyone safe, none of the children would have to see any of their parents die in this war.
OoOoO
He grimaced at the headache as they prepared to march into Plegia, even with the preparations he had made, he still worried it would not be enough. He was going to meet with his 'father' again to hand over the last stone, but he had been sure that he had sent those more intelligent Risen after them. Which worried him more about them was that Henry had no clue how to make more intelligent Risen. Grimacing again, he stood as he decided to walk around camp, perhaps walking around would help him with it. This quiet walk was interrupted as Frederick marched up to him.
"What did Morgan do this time?" Robin sighed as he rubbed at his head.
"This has nothing to do with your youngest," Frederick replied as Robin shoulders slumped in relief as he smiled at the knight.
"Did Panne talk to you about being overprotective?" He questioned as Frederick froze on the spot. "If it is about going into Plegia, I agree with the concern and I do some contingencies, though I would very much appreciate if you and Panne could keep an eye on Chrom."
"What about yourself, as Validar seemed unnaturally interested in you?"
"I already have three sets of eyes on me, I should be fine," he rubbed at his forehead.
"You're getting headaches aren't you?" Severa interrupted as Robin turned and looked at his daughter, who was almost visibly shaking. Frederick marched away, Robin noticed out of the corner of his eye.
"Is something the matter, Severa? It is only a headache," he commented as Severa shook her head. "Let's go talk in command tent." She followed as he tried to stay calm, he needed answers, and he didn't need one of his best fighters worried about a possible future that wouldn't come to pass. Once they reached his command tent he moved two chairs as they sat. Perhaps she will finally explain her worries now, it seemed like she was afraid she would cause the problem to start early. "What are you worried about happening? I assume the headaches remind you of something." Severa sighed as she looked at the ground before looking up, her eyes hardening,
"You first started get headaches and then you and Mother would fight about how she didn't stop wishing she was with Chrom," Robin frowned as he tried to figure out where such an idea came from, why would he accuse Cordelia of liking Chrom? But his daughter was continuing, "the last fight you had before you left and died, you two started yelling about how you were going to go protect her precious Chrom. Then you and Chrom got stupid and died and mother said it was her own fault that you died. Then she was even more stupid because she died and all we had left of her was when her pegasus came back and Morgan decided to be a pegasus knight. Now it's going to happen again-" at this Severa started weeping as Robin jumped out of his seat and hugged her. He murmured how it would not happen again, he promised as her tears slowed as she looked up at him, the hope dancing in her eyes.
"Besides the fact I have the best daughters on the planet," Severa snorted, "their both smart, courageous, and pretty."
"Rude, grumpy, and a terror to allies you mean," Severa corrected as Robin smiled.
"Nope, I am sure I meant the first three," he countered as a small smile snuck onto her face as she wiped her face as he planted himself back in his chair. "Though I do have one question, why did I think Cordelia had a crush on Chrom?" Severa stared again as he frowned, what did he miss?
"You don't know?"
"Know what?" Severa stared at the ground as he patted her shoulder.
"Everyone of you old people knew except maybe Henry that Cordelia has a massive crush on perfect, handsome Chrom," Severa explained as she didn't look up. Robin felt a tired grin slip out as he could guess what Severa was worried about.
"I guess I'm not an old person then, but don't worry, I think the problem I had from the future was I didn't know what was causing the headache. This time I do, so the only problem we might have is whatever happens in Plegia, and I have two of the best watching over us, right?"
"Someone has to make sure you don't do something stupid, oh gods." Severa complained as he stood as he beamed at her.
"Thanks for telling me, I promise that we won't make the same mistake twice," Severa just sighed as he marched out. He knew his wife needed to know the truth and if he could clear the air now, maybe, just maybe they could be okay parents.
He found his wife finishing up sewing his spare cloak as he sat down next to her on their cot. "I had an enlightening conversation with our eldest daughter today."
"Oh, did she mention that she enjoys her procurement runs with Laurent more for the company than for what she gets?" Robin leaned against his wife's shoulder as he laughed.
"No, though I guess that might explain why Laurent was so keen on been my apprentice, I didn't think he was good at subterfuge."
"I thought you would be worried that about your little girls being all grown up."
"I know they can take care of themselves, and she could have picked worse," he rejoined.
"Is that why you placed Inigo on the other side of the battlefield from both of our daughters?" Cordelia smiled as he smirked as she folded up the cloak before returning her supplies to the proper place.
"So, Severa says that everyone knew that you had a crush on Chrom." She stiffed as he rubbed her back.
"That was a while ago, besides I thought you knew." She spoke out quickly as he chuckled.
"Nope, I had been blissfully unaware, which make me doubt you still do, otherwise you wouldn't be willing to have multiple children with me." She laid her head on his as he chuckled. "You know how I get headache from Validar," she affirmed as he continued, "in their past, I didn't know how I got them and I think that I may have found out about the old crush when in a foul mood. It would have been worse as we were probably sent on missions and as the highest ranked pegasus knight, you were probably sent on plenty of missions. And as we know you would do so even if you wore yourself ragged and if I probably missed you terribly, I may have said something because I was angry. Then, we argued and then the world went pear-shaped when Chrom and I die. You believing it was your fault I died, told our daughters that and they believe it, especially if you died while still grieving me."
"But you don't get mad like Severa does."
"I know more about the future because of the children, also I haven't dealt with the headaches as long."
"Perhaps this time we could do better as parents," Cordelia suggested.
"Yeah, though I am so proud of our two children, even if we sucked as parents," Robin leaned in to kiss his wife when a squeal was heard and thumping of feet ran by the tent.
"Stay back, I'm not a ragdoll." Yarne's shout stopped Robin as he groaned.
"Come back, stop running Bunny." Cordelia started laughing as Robin rubbed at his head. He was so going to hear about this from Frederick.
Anyways, I know in almost all the stories I read here, Robin like everyone else knows about Cordelia's crush, but if you follow their support it doesn't come up, and Chrom supposedly knows nothing about it...
Let me know what you think and thank you very much for reading.
