Full Summary: When Kaneki's Aunt decides she can't take care of him any longer he gets passed onto relatives from his father's side, the Yagami's. After living with them for a couple years everything has been fine and he's finally been able to live a normal family life. That's until strange things start happening and a mysterious killer known as Kira appears. Will Kaneki be able to keep all his secrets and dark past behind him when a strange detective known as L comes into the picture, or will things come crashing down for the half-ghoul?
Disclaimer: I don't own Tokyo Ghoul or Death Note
Before You Read: Just so you all know Ghouls aren't known in this story so there won't be any CCG and people won't be able to instantly understand what Kaneki is, it adds more to the mystery! Let's just say there aren't that many ghouls and they have established rules -like don't kill innocent people, don't tell humans about ghouls unless absolutely necessary, ect.- so they were able to keep everything a secret, I'll go into more detail later on, on how they get food and what happens to ghouls that break the rules so don't worry about it. Also Kaneki is the same age as Light in this but that doesn't make much of a difference.
Side Note: I didn't explain Kaneki's entire story in this chapter but it will all eventually come out. So I hope you all stick around until then! (;
I really liked the idea of a Death Note and Tokyo Ghoul crossover so I decided to make one! I already have a couple chapters written out but the planning is still a little sketchy, so if anyone has any ideas I could add to the story it would be great!
It was a nice afternoon. The sun was bright in the sky as people were chatting away in the small coffee shop of Anteiku. Sitting at one of the tables was Kaneki Ken, his vibrant white hair was glowing in the light that illuminated the shop as he stirred his coffee slowly and looked at the man that was sitting in front of him.
Tsukiyama Shuu. He was wearing an annoyingly bright purple suit with a red undershirt, he was sitting back comfortably in his chair with his legs crossed as he eyed Kaneki from across the table.
"So, have you heard of Kira?"
Kaneki raised an eyebrow at Tsukiyama's question before nodding his head slightly. "Yeah I have, what's your point?" lifting the coffee cup he had been stirring to his lips Kaneki took a sip and leaned back in his chair. "He doesn't seem that interesting to me."
"Not that interesting?" Tsukiyama asked with a surprised expression. "Kaneki, he's killing criminals with his mind!" he said it as though it was the most amazing thing in the world.
Kaneki shrugged. "Well that's what everyone's saying, but I doubt anyone can do that."
"Well then what do you think he's doing?" Tsukiyama leaned forward and placed his hands on the table intertwining his fingers, he gave an interested look to Kaneki to show he wanted him to elaborate.
"I don't know, but I'm sure there's a more reasonable explanation than the guy using some kind of weird telepathic power."
Tsukiyama sighed and leaned back into his chair. "And here I was hoping you could give me a reasonable explanation."
"Well excuse me for not being able to explain the impossible" Kaneki huffed and took another sip of his coffee. "Isn't that big time what's-his-face going to find out who Kira is anyways?"
Tsukiyama looked exasperated "His name is L for you information, shouldn't you be more interested in something like this?"
Kaneki shrugged "Whatever."
"Shouldn't you be at least a little concerned?"
"Why?"
"Ugh." Tsukiyama gave him an irritated look and slouched over the table.
"What?" Kaneki crossed his arms defensively over his chest. "It's not like he's going to kill me, why should I be concerned?"
"Well he's killing criminals!" Tsukiyama took a moment to make sure no one could hear him and leaned in towards Kaneki. "Did you forget that those were our main food source?" he made sure to emphasize the 'main' part to get his point across.
Kaneki gave a thoughtful expression before leaning towards Tsukiyama. "Well I wouldn't say they are our 'main' food source, we still have suicide victims and ghouls that have gone completely rouge. And aren't some of us able to find the bodies before the police do? It could become beneficial." He said in a hushed voice.
Tsukiyama leaned back and thought for a while before nodding. "I guess that's true. And Kira has been killing a lot of criminals that are already in jail."
Kaneki went back to leaning against his chair and asked. "Why?"
Tsukiyama chuckled slightly then shrugged. "Looks like you'll have to catch the guy and ask him yourself."
Kaneki rolled his eyes. "Whatever, I have to get home soon anyways." He took one last gulp of his cup then put it down.
"Already?" Tsukiyama frowned.
"Yeah." Kaneki nodded and got up, slinging his bag over his left shoulder. "My dad's actually coming home for dinner tonight so I have to be there."
"Still calling that man your father? How does your aunt feel, seeing as though you don't call her mom?" Tsukiyama smirked and flipped his bangs with his index finger, in an almost mocking way.
"Shut up." Kaneki gritted out and gave him a deadly glare. "Sachiko understands perfectly well why it's hard for me to call her mom, keep up the cocky attitude and I'll break your arm."
"Oh, how cruel!" Tsukiyama said it in such a dramatic way it made Kaneki gag at him. "Have fun with dinner." He emphasized the dinner part just to remind Kaneki of the oncoming stomachache he would have from eating.
"Don't remind me" Kaneki sighed and waved goodbye to the overly-dressed man.
"I'm home!" Kaneki announced as he entered the house and started taking off his shoes.
"Welcome back." He looked up to address the person that had spoken to him and smiled at his aunt who had left the kitchen to greet him.
"Good afternoon Sachiko, what's for dinner? Whatever it is I can't wait." Kaneki easily lied as he always did. It's a good thing he's been practicing for years with Yoshimura on how to eat like a normal person, he was going to really need it tonight.
"Hamburger, it used to be your favorite right?"
Kaneki laughed lightly. "Yeah it was, I can't wait to try some."
Sachiko nodded with a smile then returned to the kitchen. Kaneki sighed and made his way up to his room where he placed his bag at his desk and fell into his chair.
'Better get started with this homework.' He thought and sighed. With everything he's had to deal with lately as a ghoul, being in school, and working at Anteiku life was starting to get very stressful.
"So, have you heard of Kira?" he remembered the conversation he had with Tsukiyama and banged his head on the desk. "Now with Kira I might have even more to deal with." He grunted to himself then sat up and got to work.
...
Kaneki laid on his bed and let out a comfortable sigh, he had finished his homework about 10 minutes ago and it was good to finally relax. He turned on his side and checked his nails, they were painted a flesh tone to hide the black underneath -you can't have black nails at school and it would be pretty hard for him to explain that they were natural- He made sure they weren't chipped then sat up from his bed and looked at the mirror he had hanging on his wall then adjusted his eye patch and brushed out his hair with his fingers.
Just as he finished he heard the front door open and the sound of Sachiko telling everyone it was time for dinner, with a sigh Kaneki stood up and stretched. "Put your game face on Kaneki." He mumbled to himself before making his way downstairs.
...
Everyone sat in a comfortable silence eating their dinner –minus Kaneki- the only noise heard was the sound of clinking plates and chewing. Kaneki took a sip of his water and wondered if he should start up a conversation but he didn't have to think for long because Soichiro decided to start talking.
"How's school going, Light?"
"Hm?" Light looked up from eating for a moment then looked back down before replying. "Okay. Same as usual, Dad."
"Yup, top of the class as usual! You can count on Light!" Sayu said excitedly as she turned to her older brother.
"Yes, we can count on Light." Sachiko said with a light chuckle as she turned to her husband who nodded towards her with a smile.
Kaneki watched the scene with a small smile then Soichiro turned to him. "And you Kaneki?"
Kaneki shrugged and swallowed some rice, after pretending to chew for a second he replied. "Same as usual for me I guess." he scratched his chin lightly out of habit.
"You don't have to be so modest, you are in the top ten." Light said as he nonchalantly took a bite of his food.
"He's right, and if you actually applied yourself more and didn't have that part-time job, or hung out with your friends so much you could probably be just as good as Light." Sachiko said and smiled at Kaneki.
Kaneki chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck then looked and his Uncle who began talking again.
"And what about you, Sayu?"
"Who me?" she brought her hand to the back of her head and rubbed it awkwardly. "Are you… sure you want to know? I guess it's… same as usual, for me too."
"I see." He said softly and put down his chopsticks. Light stared at him for a second before saying. "You seem tired, Dad."
"Well… this case is a hard one, to put it mildly… it's practically a wild goose chase." Everyone was silent for a moment before he started talking again. "But… the person in charge of the investigation did say today that judging from the estimated time of death, the killer is probably a student."
There was another moment of silence and Kaneki thought to himself. 'This whole case just keeps getting more and more complicated, if the killer ends up being some ghoul playing a weird trick I'm going to probably have an aneurysm.' He sighed lightly to himself.
"I really don't think this is a subject for the dinner table…" Sachiko said looking worriedly at Soichiro.
"Why not? We've had cases before where ideas from Light helped us move the investigation forward." He sighed and rubbed his shoulder tiredly.
"I'm done." Light announced and grabbed his plates.
"What, already?!" Sayu exclaimed.
"Sayu, was that all the help you needed?"
"Yeah, thanks."
"Was Light helping you do your homework again, Sayu?" Soichiro asked.
"Gee, Light! Thanks a lot for blabbing." Sayu yelled in an irritated voiced and raised her fist as Light left the dining room.
"I'm also done." Kaneki said trying to excuse himself as he picked up his things.
"Are you sure? You didn't eat everything." Sachiko said worriedly as she looked at his plate.
"Yeah, I had a big lunch, I'll be fine." Kaneki easily lied as he set his plate in the sink and started leaving the room.
"Good night Kaneki." Sayu called to him.
"Night." He gently waved at her and left the dining room.
When Kaneki got to his room he locked the door and leaned against it for a moment, and took a deep breath then ran into the bathroom, where he promptly puked his guts out. "Ugh." He wiped his mouth lightly then quickly pulled it away as he felt another wave of food roll up his throat and into the toilet. "Damn." He breathed in and out lightly then took a bottle of water from underneath his sink.
He took a swig before leaning back over the toilet and sticking his finger to the back of his throat, easily letting out another round of food from his stomach.
After a few more rounds of drinking water and shoving the fingers down his throat he was sure that he has gotten everything out of his stomach he leaned against the wall directly in front of the toilet and let out a sigh.
"So, disgusting." He mumbled to himself and took a few sips from the water, trying to wash the taste out of his mouth. He wiped off the small amount of sweat that had built up on his forehead and let out and irritated sigh before getting up and going to his room where he could lay on his bed.
He rested there for a moment before deciding he was too tired to do anything and decided to just go to sleep.
Hope you guys enjoyed, please review! c: If you find any spelling errors feel free to tell me so I can go back and fix them, and I'll try to update regularly but my schedule is always messed up so I can't promise anything for now. Also I'm sorry if you guys don't like the idea of Kaneki thinking of Soichiro as his dad but, he's never really had a father figure in his life so I think it's understandable for him to think of him that way.
Well, see you then!
