Joe woke up early that morning, he had to leave Joelle at her mother's place and then hit the road to get to the location Monday night raw was taking place in. He got dressed and left the room to go wake his daughter and his friend up, but they weren't in their bedrooms, he was a bit dazed at first but then heard the sound of Joelle's sweet laugh and followed it to the kitchen.
"Okay, ready?" Colby asked the little girl beside him aiming attention to the pan on his hand with an expectant smile on her face "One… two…three…" In a rapid movement he flipped the pancake.
Jojo threw her fists in the air "See? You're getting the hang of it!" She laughed once more
"Good morning…" Joe greeted, a toothy grin played on his lips. Colby looked over his shoulder and then back at the golden pancake switching it to a plate, he turned around and handed over the plate of pancakes
"We made you breakfast" Colby said with his chocolate brown eyes glistening
They sat down at the table eating, chatting and laughing, but the tension between the two men was undeniable and it got more frustrating each day, even though Colby tried to ignore it or "move on" like Jon said, there was still an open door giving him a little bit of hope, which is supposed to be a good thing so why was it bringing him down?
After a quick glance at his watch, Joe widened his eyes and almost gaged on his juice "Your mother's gonna kill me!" He pointed at his daughter "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah, let me just go grab my backpack" Joelle jumped off of her sit and ran to the bedroom
Colby got up and placed the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Joe paced his way to the brown eyed man and stopped right beside him "I-" the taller started "I think we need to talk about us"
"Okay" Colby voiced, a moment of silence followed. "Do… you want me to go first?" He asked eloquent getting a shrug in response "Well I guess there is no need for things to be weird between us, you moved on, I moved on-"
"I didn't-"
"It's okay." He cut him off without even listening "Let's go on with our lives being friends as always" The chocolate eyed man tapped the other on the arm and smiled leaving him frozen, tongue tied and openmouthed. Colby was equally astounded by the words that had just came out of his mouth, but unlike Joe, he was happy he said it. The door was finally closed.
A month had gone by and things remained practically he same, the tension was still existent but they choose to deny it.
It was Wednesday and the guys were going to have dinner at a diner near the hotel. Joe, Jon and Austin were already there waiting for Colby who was running a bit late. They stood outside next to the front door of the diner, when a few minutes later they spotted the brunette walking toward them looking down at his phone. A tall man in a suit was walking in the opposite direction bumping into him "I am so sorry, I wasn't looking…" Colby apologized
"No, I'm sorry. I was looking but I still didn't see you" The man smiled following the brown eyed man with his eyes as he paced away to meet his friends. They were laughing clutching onto their stomachs… well, all except Joe who had his arms folded over his chest and his lips pressed in a thin line.
"Hey, what's up?" Colby greeted a little befuddled by the laughter
"It's a great time to be gay" Jon stated. The younger man still looked confused
"That guy" Austin laughed "He just checked your ass"
"Well" The brunette looked over his shoulder scratching the nape of his neck "I hope he enjoyed it" He joked unsure of what to say. With a nudge of his head he told everyone to go inside
"Oh… he did" A mumble slipped through Joe's clenched teeth, he was, of course, not expecting anyone to hear him but Jon did. The raven sighed and dropped his gaze walking crestfallen to the booth.
A red haired waitress approach them with a cheeky grin on her freckled face, she took their orders and came back with their meals.
Halfway through dessert, Austin had to answer a call and Colby took the time to go to the restroom.
"You okay?" Jon asked pushing a piece of chocolate cake into his mouth. Joe hummed answering his question. "Yeah… right" the blue eyed man rolled his eyes
"What?" The Samoan shot him a glance and got a pair of blond eyebrows risen in response. There was a silent moment, and a few sighs after Joe admitted "I guess I miss him"
"Move on" Jon said dryly
"How can I move on when I'm still in love with Colby!?" The raven snapped leaving the other astonish
"You are?" Joe nodded vigorously "Oh boy… I've been giving the wrong advices to the wrong person" The blonde muttered. After a small pause, he yelled "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
"Excuse me?"
"Why the hell aren't you two messed up children together?" The anger made his voice tremble.
Joe opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out "I- I don't know" The blonde widened his blue eyes and threw his arms in the air wroth and almost desperately "We broke up because he didn't trus-"
"Not my question" He cut him off "Why do I have to be the wise one?" said Jonathan waving his hands dramatically
"You're not" Joe corrected "Do you think I should-"
"Yes" Once more, Joe was cut off by the blue eyed man. Jonathan lowered his voice in order to be serious "Just make sure that that's what you really want, okay?… Colby can't get over another break up"
Joe nodded and chewed him bottom lip not sure of what he felt. All his emotions were a blur in his mind until suddenly it stopped. One emotion prevailed when he heard Colby's voice. "Austin's still on the phone?" Love.
"Trying not to love you only makes me love you more"
