A little story where Luigi get's sick with the flu and it's up to big brother Mario to take care of him. Warning contains talk of self-harm (nothing too bad though)

I do not own Mario or Luigi.
Mario stood by the front door, tapping his foot with impatience. "Luigi! Hurry up, we're gonna be late to the party!" He called, loud enough for his brother to hear.
Mario could hear Luigi mumble something from upstairs. Mario could hear slow and heavy footsteps making their way down the stairs and leaned over to look up and until he saw green.
Mario straightened up and sighed. 'Out of all the days he decides to be late it has to be today!' He thought with a hint of irony as a small smile flashed across his face. That smile quickly disappeared when he noticed the way his younger brother looked.
Luigi slouched as he stood, his eyes were unfocused and red and his face flushed with a fever. He swayed slightly side to side as he tried to keep his balance. His body shook as if he were freezing cold.
"Luigi!?" Mario started. That's when Luigi began to collapse.
Luigi PoV
I feel horrible. My whole body hurts and it's so cold, even under my thick polyester blanket. I don't want to get out of bed, but I know I have to sooner or later. It's Peach's birthday party today. I can hear Mario shuffling around downstairs and I'm sure he's almost ready to leave.
"Ugh!" I groan in both pain and annoyance. I begin to get dizzy as I stand so I lean against the wall and wait until I regain most of my composure. I make my way over to my dresser and almost on autopilot I pull out my regular green shirt and blue overalls. When I finally manage to get them on next goes my gloves and then shoes, followed by my signature hat.
"Luigi! Hurry up, we're gonna be late to the party!" I hear Mario yell, however it sounds so far away to me.
I try to call back that I'm coming but it only comes out as a quiet jumbled up " 'M ming" Okay there is no way I can make it to the party like this. Maybe I'll just go downstairs and tell Mario I'm gonna stay behind.
'Man my legs hurt.' I think to myself as I begin to make my way down the stairs. 'Since when have the stairs been this steep?' I have to hold on to the wall to keep myself from falling down the seemingly endless staircase. As I reach the final few I manage to break away from the stairs. I notice Mario staring worriedly at me but it doesn't completely register to me.
The next few minutes are a blur until I am suddenly greeted with the oncoming floor. 'I knew I should have stayed in bed.' Are my last thoughts as my world goes dark.
I managed to reach Luigi just before he hit the hard floor, thankfully I'm strong or Luigi would be very heavy and this would be very difficult. Hint, Sarcasm.
I glance down to see my bro out like a light. I gently lift him up into a sitting position so I can easily pick him up.
I stare at the stairs and decide that there's no way I could carry Luigi all the way up stairs while he's out cold. So I settle for bringing him to the couch.
After laying him down I decided to completely check him over to see what was wrong with him. I felt his forehead to check for a fever and to no surprise his head was hot. "Oh, Luigi." I sigh. "I'd better g get you some blankets and medicine.
As I enter the room with some blankets I hear a loud, painful sounding cough. I see Luigi sitting up, well hunched over, hand over his mouth coughing.
"Luigi!" I kneel down next to him and rub his back lightly until his coughing dies down. "Are you okay now, Luigi? I ask, knowing the answer was no.
He looks at me, I can tell by his glassy eyes that he probably didn't hear me. "Let's get you laid back down." I say as I guide him into a laying position. I spread the blankets over him. As I walk away I hear him mumble.
" Bo..dy...hu..rts."
I go into the kitchen and dig through our medicine cabinets while going over Luigi's symptoms. "Let's see; cough, fever, dizziness, and pain. I think this may should do the trick." I say as I grab a bottle of cold and flu medicine.
After I finally managed to give Luigi the medicine he managed to fall into a peaceful sleep. I hear a knock at the door so I hurry to open it before whoever it was woke Luigi up.
"Hello, Mario!" Toad greets.
"Hey, Toad." I greet back while slowly closing the door behind me.
"We got worried when we didn't see you or Luigi at the party. The princess and I thought something bad must've happened so she sent me here to check on you guys." Toad informs.
I sigh, having forgotten all about the party I realize that I never called Peach to inform her of our situation. "Sorry about that." I apologized. "You see, Luigi came down with the flu, or a really bad cold, so we won't be able to make it this time. Can you tell the princess for me when you go back?"
"Oh, is Luigi gonna be okay?" Toad freaks.
"He'll be fine, he's sleeping soundly now. He should be better in a few days or so." I answer.
"Anyway, wish Luigi well for me, I'll go let the princess know you won't be attending." Toad smiles as he leaves.
A day has gone by and Luigi is still in bad shape, although his fever has gone down favorably. I finally managed to get him up to his own bed this morning when he woke up from his medicine induced sleep.
As I watched over him I began to think about how I used to do this a lot when we were children.
Years ago
It had been the middle of the night when thirteen year old Mario was awoken from his peaceful sleep.
"Mario!" Eleven year old Luigi whined as he stood in Mario's doorway wrapped in blankets.
Mario stirred and slowly began to wake up. He rubbed his tired eyes and grumbled. "What is it Luigi? It's..." He glanced at the glowing numbers on his alarm clock. "Two O'clock! What are you doing up so late?"
Mario soon noticed a trail of tears rolling down his brother's flushed cheeks. "Are you okay!?" He asked as he lept from the bed and led Luigi to it to sit.
"Dn't fel g'd." Luigi sick talk for 'Don't feel good' .
"Where does it hurt?" Mario asked.
"Tummy. Head." Mario sighed. "Wait here, I'll go get you some medicine." He informed. However, as he turned to leave he felt something tug on his t-shirt sleeve. He turned to see his brother standing and holding on to his shirt.
"Dn't le've!" He cried.
Mario smiled and shook his head. "Okay," he said. Do you want to lay with me tonight."
A huge crooked grin spread across the sick boy's face.
The next morning their mother had found the Luigi peacefully sleeping in his big brother's arms.
No Pov
Mario decided from then on to always take care of his brother, no matter what. And to this day he still does.
I know the ending is really rushed, but I thought this would be a good place to end it off. And way, sorry hackeline83, that it took so long. Life and stuff gets in the way, but I hope you like this. I'll be sure to continue writing fanfics when life provides the chance. :) Any way, hope everyone enjoyed!
