He said let's get out of this town
Drive out of the city
Away from the crowds
I thought heaven can't help me now
Nothing lasts forever
As 6:00 approached in New York City, the agents at the SSR were slowly going home for the evening until all but two agents were left. Deputy Chief Peggy Carter and Chief Jack Thompson were the two remaining agents in the SSR building. Jack and Peggy were working on a lead for some missing Stark Tech and they currently weren't getting anywhere. He would never tell the others this, but when it was just him and Carter at the office, he would pull a chair up to her desk instead of sitting in his office by himself. He never asked her if he could do this, and she never said anything against it; it was just a silent understanding. After a about an hour or two of silence, sans the occasional sound of a back popping or a chair scooting, Jack broke the silence.
"You doing anything this weekend Peg?" he tried to make it sound as casual as possible, but Peggy was able to detect a slight hitch in his voice. He was making a point at staring down at his file until she spoke. Well, two can play this game Peggy thought to herself. With her eyes purposefully glued to the papers in front of her, Peggy nonchalantly replied in her British accent,
"Probably not, though Howard asked me to join him and Maria for dinner one night. Why do you ask?" Peggy knew what she was doing, but it was just too good to resist.
"No reason, just wondering," Jack said, desperately trying to sound casual
A few minutes of silence passed with only the sound of the clock ticking on the wall. Finally, Jack said,
"But you know, uh, if you don't end up doing something with Howard, you can, uh, if you want of course, uh, do something with me."
"Really? What exactly do you have in mind," Peggy said, still playing the clueless charade.
"Maybe we could get some dinner," Jack said, clearing his throat as an attempt to stay confident, "we could drive out of the city, you know, get away from the crowd. I know this great little place in Brooklyn. That is of course if you want to go." This time he was looking straight into her eyes. Peggy couldn't help herself anymore. Her nonchalant face changed into one of her dazzling smiles,
"I think that sounds like a wonderful idea," Peggy said while thinking to herself, heaven can't help me now, but oh well, nothing last forever.
He's so tall, and handsome as hell
He's so bad but he does it so well
To say that Jack and Peggy made a striking couple was an understatement. They were the envy of everyone in the restaurant. Jack looked tall and handsome as hell in his grey suit and hat. He was positively oozing charm with his bad boy persona peaking through in just the right amounts. The women were practically drooling over him. Then there was Peggy in her navy blue, curve hugging dress and her blood red lips that had the men's eyes glued on her. They ate their dinner in the back corner of the restaurant with dim candlelight and soft Italian music setting a romantic atmosphere. After dinner, Jack and Peggy decided to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to watch the sunset.
Say you'll remember me
Standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
The sun was setting as they got to the middle of the bridge. He watched her looking out over the water staring at the sunset. He was feeling pretty darn lucky right about then. There was Peggy Carter, the most beautiful women he ever saw wearing that figure hugging dress with her red lipstick and rosy cheeks. They would share their first kiss on that bridge, and when it was over, that beautiful British agent would lean over and whisper to the tall, handsome man, "Say you'll remember this." The handsome man would reply in the affirmative because he knew he would never forget that moment. The years would pass, and said beautiful agent and handsome man would marry, have children, and build a life together. In the golden years of their life, she would be diagnosed with Alzheimer's and eventually would move into a nursing home. In the months following her diagnoses, her health would rapidly decline until her memory was almost completely gone. She no longer remembered her wartime missions, or the SSR or SHIELD, she would even forget the captain that changed her life. The tall, handsome man would visit her everyday, holding her hand. As her last days approached, the beautiful British agent would lean over to the tall, handsome man who became her husband, and whisper into his ear, like she did all those years ago…
Say you'll remember me
Standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you'll see me again even if it's just in your wildest dreams
Well, if you cried, I have completed my job...and of course you can always review...
