Chapter 3: Red

The steel floor was cold. Blake had awaken to a dimly lit room. The walls were solid steel and unpainted. The only thing worth noting about the room itself was the fact that the front wall was a thick metal cage.

"Prison? Are we in the Beacon's brig?"She thought to herself trying to push through the throbbing pain in her head. She suddenly remembered herself floating in the air, and the voice over the intercom. "No. We were taken."

Blake looked around the room to see if her companions were with her. They were. All three of them were laying across the cell, still unconscious. "Great." Blake shook her head slightly. "Once the soldier wakes up it's going to get rough again." She quietly crept across the floor to where the other two slept. She took a quick glimpse down at the hooded girl. "Good. It doesn't look like she got hurt at all." She went to the blonde's side and nudged her slightly to wake her up.

Yang was cold. Her mind was hazy and her head hurt incredibly bad. All she wanted to do was lay down and sleep. That was, until she felt a slight nudge at her side. She immediately sat up straight.

"RUBY!" She gasped, frantically searching the foreign environment for her sister.

"Relax. She's fine. She's right beside you" The dark haired Faunus girl said, gesturing to Yang's left.

Yang looked quickly to see her sister peacefully sleeping beside her.

"Oh thank god." Yang let out a small sigh. "So. Who are you? And where are we?"

"My name's Blake." She looked around the room again. "As to where we are, I have no clue."

"We've obviously been taken prisoner." Weiss had just woke up and was clenching her head. "Are you telling me that you three had nothing to do with this?" She asked suspiciously. "This was just too convenient. Two rough looking civilians crashed into the Beacon, resisted arrest, and some faunus girl just happened to be down in the cargo bay. There was no way all of this wasn't related." Weiss wiped the sleep from her eyes and attempted to gather her wits.

"Oh! Good morning my cold, bitter new roommate! It's nice of you to say hello!" Yang knew this would only make her angry. Yet, she didn't seem to care.

"I am Commander Weiss Schnee of the U.R.V. Navy! You will not speak to me like that!" Weiss shouted towards the blonde.

"And I'm Yang! This sleepy one over here is my sister Ruby!" Yang clapped her hands together. "Now that everyone's all introduced an' stuff, I suggest we figure out where we are and how to get out. Then we'll each be on our merry way, never to see each other again. Agreed?

"Absolutely not!" Weiss argued. "You're all criminals and are in custody of the U.R.V. And as such-"

"I'm going to stop paying attention to you now okay?" Yang interrupted.

Weiss was appaled."WHA- How dare you I've neve-"

"Yang... Where are we?" Ruby woke up with her head pounding. There were three other people in the room with her. Her sister, The White haired girl from earlier, and the faunus girl. Yang Seemed to be arguing with the white haired girl. Ruby picked up the name Weiss from their conversation.

"Ruby! You're awake! We're in jail! I think..." Yang immediately broke conversation with Weiss and smiled. "This grumpy one is Weiss, and the one beside you is Blake! Their gonna help us get out of here!"

"You stupid!... Who said I was going to help you do anything?! I'm simply going wait until someone walks by, explain who I am and walk along" Weiss retorted.

"I'm stupid? If you really think that'll work, you're gonna be really disapointed!" Yang couldn't resist tormenting the already livid commander.

Ruby decided to let them argue a bit more while she thought about their predicament. She turned to her side and saw the Faunus girl, Blake as Yang had said earlier, sitting beside her watching the banter between Yang and Weiss. Her face was stone. Ruby figured she was probably also thinking of a way out of here.

"I say we just break down this cage and search for an escape pod or something. All ships have 'em right?" Yang proposed enthusiastically.

"That won't work, Yang" Ruby countered. "This ship is massive. We'd never find it.

"And how could you possibly know that hmmm?" Weiss said accusingly as she stared directly through Ruby's eyes.

Blake had also turned towards Ruby. Ruby's face grew hot. Everyone was starring at her.

"It's.. It's just... Can't you hear the humming?" Ruby barely managed to stutter out. "Listen to how low the engine hum is. The engine must be enormous!" Ruby began to get excited.

Yang cracked a smile listening to her sister

"To house an engine like that, this ship must be like, three- No, wait! Four Beacons!" Ruby's eyes were gleaming with excitement. "Yang! I bet it's so big, Bumblebee could fit in its fuel tanks!"

Blake smiled at the girls enthusiasm.

"Well great!" Weiss interrupted "You're fawning over our captors ship, your sister won't shut up, and this... this cat hasn't contributed anything!"

Blake's smile faded. "Well at least these two have kept calm! You know, for a supposed esteemed commander or whatever, you haven't shown much control of yourself since you woke up. All you've done is complain about everyone else and haven't offered any solution!" Blake was visibly angry. The color in her face was becoming a full red. Her eyes were filled with the expression of someone who was both angry and tired of reliving the same argument repeatedly. Her breathing was rapid and her fists were clenched.

Ruby was afraid of Blake's sudden change of mood. Afraid, but also proud. She knew that the faunus's words were true and she was glad that Blake had stood up for herself. She had never met a faunus but, she had heard of their plight at the hands of human government and she knew it was wrong.

Suddenly, the whole room seemed to lurch to one side and then quickly to the opposite. All four girls fell to the cold, hard ground instantly. The main engines humming had stopped and a loud whirring sound filled the room.

"No way!" Ruby shouted, still sitting on the floor. "Is that the Atmospheric engine?! We're landing?!"

"That's impossible!" Weiss lifted herself off the ground. "There aren't any planet anywhere near this area. Even with hyperdrive, it would have taken days, maybe even weeks to get anywhere that we could land! Could we really have been out that long?"

"No. We would be much hungrier if we were out for that long. It couldn't have been longer than a few hours I think." Blake said with her face returning to normal. "I'm not sure what happened..."

Yang quickly turned towards Ruby. "Rubes, what do you think happened? You know more about ships and machines than any of us obviously."

"I... I..." Once again, everyone's eyes were on Ruby. "I think we warped"

"Outrageous! All warp research was made illegal decades ago! It was deemed to dangerous by every authority not only in Vale, but every nation!" Weiss dismissed the idea immediately.

"Illegal? We crashed a homemade ship through the hull of a government owned military vessel intentionally, attempted to steal the military's cargo, and were kidnapped; and you're convinced they didn't do something because it's illegal? Wow, Snow Queen. I really thought better of you." Yang shook her head and turned towards Blake. "You seem awfully familiar with these people's tactics. What do you suggest we do?"

"We should wait." Blake paused. "We should wait for someone to come, which they will, and watch and listen. We need to observe and learn what they want with us and what their plans are."

"That's dumb! You're suggesting we just sit here and do nothing? What about my crew? How are we supposed to find them by just sitting here?!" Weiss was getting more and more angry and she knew it. She couldn't hold it back but she knew she had to. As a soldier, she had to face all situations with a calm and level head. She took a deep breath in. " I apologize. I did not mean to let my anger get the best of me. You're right. We need to wait."

"Don't hurt yourself now." Yang shot a sly smile towards Weiss.

Weiss returned the smile with a sneer. "Shut it, you."

Several hours had passed before someone finally came. Though it wasn't just one person, it was many. At least a dozen people in full armor approached the girls' cell. The one leading them was a tall man wearing a long white coat and a black hat from which his fiery orange hair came out from under. He walked with a cane in his right hand though it did not seem like he needed one. In his left hand, he carried a clipboard and was starring at it as he lead the group of soldiers towards the cell.

"Well, Well, Well! It looks like you girls are next!" The man said, looking through the cage at them. His eyes moved across the cell stopping at each one. "Hm! You three aren't in uniform? Stowaways? Ah! Thieves! Yes, thieves! I did think it was strange how someone had already managed to attack the ship before we even got there. Though wouldn't a large gun work better than smashing face first into the side of the hull? Eh, oh well. It doesn't matter. What matters is you're all next."

Both Weiss and Yang immediately ran to the front of the cell.

"What are you talking about?!" They both shouted in unison. After shooting a quick glimpse at each other, they looked back at their captor.

"Hmmmm..." He moved in close to the cell door, inches from both of the girls' faces. He paused there only for a few seconds. "Well, they say seeing is believing so I guess you'll just have to wait and see!" he said as he turned around, threw his hands up and walked away. "Now guards, if you would be so kind, escort these young ladies to Test-Hold room nine."

Ruby could almost feel Yang's anger from across the room. She just knew her sister would try something that would get them into trouble. She quickly approached Yang and told her, "Be good. Okay? Do what they say and don't cause a scene. This will help us get a view of the ship's layout. Be good."

Yang's tension began to fade. She unraveled her fists and took slower breaths. Her sister was right. They needed to go about this calmly. Yang looked over towards her other companion. The commander was still fuming. Her face was as red as Ruby's cape. Yang put her hand on her shoulder.

Weiss looked up at Yang, still furious with the whole situation. The first thing she noticed was how tall Yang was compared to her. She had to bend her neck to look up at the big, dumb, fake smile the blonde was giving her. "Wait. Why is she smiling so stupidly?" It clicked. "I get it! The idiot is telling me to calm down! Gah! Why can't I stay calm?! So I have to rely on this goofy, hotheaded dunce to keep calm now? Come on Weiss. You're a Commander. Act like one."

Weiss looked at Yang and nodded. The anger had subsided.

The soldiers had now opened the door and were handcuffing each of the girls one by one starting with Yang, then Weiss. Before they got to Blake, she gave Ruby a small pat on the head.

"Good job putting out the fire" Blake whispered quietly before her hands were latched together with cold steel.

Ruby was the last one to to be cuffed. As the cuffs clicked together, she was shoved behind Blake by a guard. The whole group was to be escorted some place but, no one knew where.
