A/N I know I know I really shouldn't be starting ANOTHER story because I have so many that I am in the middle of, or just haven't really paid much attention to. Sorry but I couldn't sleep last night and little bits and pieces starting flooding my stupid little head and I just had to write them. I really apologize if I drop this story in the middle of writing it which I probably will. Sorry...again. Thank you for reading! Enjoy!

*Peeta POV*

I sit at my wooden desk alone drawing a pink flowers. If I were to guess this would be why the other boys don't hang out with me. A knock comes from the door in the back of the classroom and a women walks in with her daughter right behind. She has long black hair tied into two braids and is wearing a red plaid dress which doesn't seem very comfortable to me. The woman kneels down to the girl with black hair and says something to her before smiling and walking out. The girl immediately walks over to me empty table and stares at me.

"You're alone," is the first thing she says.

"I can see that." I look back down to my drawing hoping she'll go away.

"Do you want to not be alone?" she asks, scooting closer.

"No. I like being by myself." the girl rolls her eyes and props her feet up onto the chair next to her as if it's a coffee table.

"I'm Katniss," she sticks her hand out in my direction. I put down my green marker and shake it.

"Peeta," I respond. Katniss giggles.

"I know you. My dad and I go to your bakery sometimes. I always get cupcakes." she takes a piece of paper and starts drawing an odd crescent like shape.

"Cupcakes are my favorite too." I smile. For the rest of the school day Katniss and I stay together. Even during recess we both opted to stay inside instead of playing on the nearby playground. I learn that she likes archery which seems extremely to dangerous for me but she insists that if her dad helps her it really isn't that bad.

And that is how it started but promptly ended ten years later

*Present day*

I sit at my wooden desk alone drawing my favorite pink roses. My drawing has definitely improved from kindergarten when I first clicked with art. Although now I just do it as a pass time. My math teacher -Effie Trinket- blabbers on about something that I already have knowledge of. Another pass time of mine. I like to read ahead in school work, that way if I don't understand it I have plenty of time to ask someone to go over for me, but that is a very rare occurrence considering I am a straight A student. Which is why I am going to Yale on full scholarship at the end of the year. A sudden loud ring breaks through the almost silence making everyone jump. Katniss pulls her phone out from her bag then looks up at Effie.

"It's my Mom, can I go talk to her?" it's not exactly a secret that the Everdeens have a rather screwed up life. After Nathaniel Everdeen was killed in a mass shooting two years ago a few hours away everything for them seemed to go downhill unfortunately. Both Katniss and her sister Prim missed most of that school year and when they came back Prim hadn't changed all that much, but Katniss was an entirely different story.

Her normal A B average had dropped down to D's and F's and she had taken up a bad habit of smoking and drinking and I've heard whispers of drugs which wouldn't surprise me. She even cut off all ties with me. We had been inseparable for nearly a decade but then stopped returning my calls and texts and pretended not to know me. Her new group of...friends, are all the teenagers who are known trouble makers. Gale Hawthorne, Johanna Mason, and her boyfriend Cato King. Who I personally hate with everything inside me.

"You can speak for a few minutes Miss Everdeen, but please hurry back. You need to know this." Effie is the nicest teacher in Capitol High, so it's not unusual for her to give Katniss a little bit of leeway. Katniss doesn't thank her or smile, just grabs her bag and phone and walks out of the class. I go back to filling in the rose once the door shuts, trying not to start focusing on Katniss again. Fifteen minutes pass by and Katniss still hasn't come back so Miss Trinket calls me up. "Peeta I trust that you already know what I'm teaching?" I smile and nod a little. "Good, then can you go check on Katniss?"

"Of course," I walk out of the classroom and Katniss isn't in the hall like she should be if she's taking a personal call like she should be. I check neighboring hallways but they're all empty. Next I walk out of the main building and find her leaning against the wall with a lit cigarette in her mouth. "Katniss," I say, trying to get her attention. She looks at me then rolls her eyes.

"What do you want Mellark?" this is the first time she has talked to me in almost two years. Not going to lie, I kind of miss it.

"You need to come back to class." I tell her, stepping closer. She bites the cigarette and inhales before breathing out, releasing a cloud of thin smoke.

"That damn math lesson can suck my ass." she doesn't look at me, just stares ahead.

"You do know you're failing right?" I ask. Katniss looks at me now and scoffs.

"I don't need you telling me that I'm failing. I already know." she cuts her gaze again. I sigh and take a couple more steps so that I'm a few feet away.

"Miss Trinket wants you back in class, Katniss. You have to come now," I know she won't listen but I say it anyway. She puts a black painted fingernail onto her chin sarcastically.

"No thanks. I'm good." she breaths in the cigarette again.

"It's only third period. The morning's barley started!" I exclaim.

"And I don't give a fuck!" she shouts back. "It doesn't matter anyway. Even if I fail senior year I'm leaving anyway. Cato and I are leaving this hellhole and going to D.C."

"It does matter if you pass Senior year or not. If you don't, then you won't probably ever get a job let alone be able to support yourself." I try to reason. "Plus I highly doubt that you can live off Cato selling crack." that get's her attention. She turns sharply and glares at me.

"For your information, Peeta, Cato has his High School degree and can easily get a job and we're both young we don't need a lot. And don't you ever talk about him like that." she spits. Right as she puts the cigarette into her mouth again and breaths in, I rip it from her hands and dig it into the ground with me heel.

"Come back to class." I demand. She takes slow steps and stands right underneath me, her gray eyes staring directly into mine. She then exhales, blowing smoke into my face before marching around me, into the parking lot. "Katniss!" I shout uselessly. She doesn't respond, just hops into her dark green pickup truck and drives off without a word. I release a shaky breath and walk back to class.

"Where's Katniss?" Miss Trinket asks as I return to my desk.

"Her mom was sick, she had to go home." Effie nods knowingly and keeps drawing the next equation.

A/N Sooo, was it okay? This was just an intro chapter but I do plan to try and continue if I get enough reviews. Now just so you know, these are the ages of my characters

Katniss, Peeta, Gale, Annie, Johanna, Glimmer, Clove, Finnick and Thresh are all 18 and seniors in High School

Cato is 19, graduated and is dating Katniss.

Prim, and Rory are both 15

Matilda Everdeen, and Coriolanus Snow are both 46

And the rest of the ages aren't that important.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to PM me!
