"You heard what I said Weiss! You will spend no more time with that filthy beast you called a 'girlfriend!'" Weiss' father shouted.
They had been arguing for hours now. Weiss had just graduated from college a week ago, and it was her turn to take over the Schnee Energy company, one of the most successful energy companies in Remnant. During her time at Signal University, she had developed a close friendship with a wolf Faunus who had managed to gain entry to Signal two years early, a girl who eventually became Weiss' girlfriend, Ruby Rose. Her father had tolerated their relationship, if only just, while they were in college. Now that she was back home, however, he felt that Weiss had a reputation to uphold. So he had begun to demand that the pair break up. The two had been arguing on-and-off for the entire week Weiss had been home, which brought her to her current situation.
"Fine!" Weiss yelled. "I will on one condition!"
"And that is?" her father replied, looking a little more curious than angry now.
"You let me do it in person," Weiss said, her tone icy. "Otherwise, you will never see me again."
Both Weiss and her father stared at each other for what felt like hours. Finally, her father sighed.
"Very well," he said. "You will depart tomorrow, and return one week from then. Any later, and you lose all ties to the family and company."
"Fine," Weiss replied, and stormed out of the room, almost bumping into a girl that looked almost exactly like an older Weiss, though she was taller, lacked the latter's scar, and instead off Weiss' long, off-centered ponytail, her hair was tied up into a tight bun and her bangs fell over her left eye as she did so.
"Woah, everything okay, Weiss?" the young woman asked.
Weiss let out a long sigh. "No, Winter," she replied. "Father is being... difficult again."
"Is he still giving you a headache about your girlfriend?" Winter asked.
Weiss nodded slowly. "Yes. He's forcing me to break up with her."
"That's a shame," Winter said sadly. "I actually rather liked her. A lot less snobby than those heirs that father wants you to end up with."
"Even though she's a-"
"Faunus? Yep."
Weiss smiled. "Thanks Win."
"'Course. You're my sister, after all."
"I don't suppose there's anything you could do to convince father?" Weiss asked as they started to walk towards Weiss' bedroom.
Winter sighed. "No, when he's got his mind set on something, there's really no way to change it."
Weiss shook her head. "Well, all the same, thanks Winter," she said as she opened the door to her bedroom. "I'll hopefully see you before I leave tomorrow."
Weiss walked into her room and closed the door behind her. She walked over to her bed and sat down, picking her phone up from her nightstand as she did so. She opened her contact list and scrolled down to one that said girlfriend. With a light smile, she pushed the call button. The phone rang twice before someone finally answered.
"Weiss!" an energetic female voice practically shouted on the other end.
"Hey Ruby," Weiss replied with a chuckle.
"What's going on? It's been a week since you returned home, and you haven't called, texted or anything! I was getting worried that-"
"Ruby, if you'll give me a moment to speak?" Weiss interrupted.
"Oh, uh sorry, Weiss," Ruby replied apologetically. "What's up?"
"I don't want to discuss it over the phone," Weiss said. "Can you meet me at Vale International tomorrow at four in the evening?"
"Yeah, sure, Weiss," Ruby said. "I'll be there."
"Thanks, Ruby," Weiss replied. "I love you."
"I love you too, Ice Queen," Ruby replied with a laugh.
Weiss smiled as she ended the call, though her smile slowly started to descend into a look of began to prick at her eyes as she remembered what she would need to do.
If only there were a way for us to be together, Weiss thought bitterly as she lay back in her bed and closed her eyes. I would give anything or that chance.
"Weiss!" Ruby yelled as she practically tackled the aforementioned girl to the ground as she stepped off her family's plane at Vale International Airport.
"Hello again, Ruby," Weiss said as she gently pushed her girlfriend off of her and rubbed her head in between the pair of wolf ears that sat perched there. "How is my favorite puppy doing?"
"Would you stop calling me that?" Ruby whined.
"Sure," Weiss replied smugly. "As soon as you stop calling me Ice Queen and Snow Angel."
Ruby replied with a sigh. "Fair point."
"Come on, dolt," Weis said laughing a little. "Let's go."
"Before we go though, what is it you wanted to talk about?" Ruby asked.
"Can we discuss it later?" Weiss asked. "I really don't want to right now."
Ruby sighed. "Let me guess, your dad wants us to break up?"
Weiss nodded.
"Fine, we'll talk about it after dinner. We can head to Junior's bar to talk if you'd like, and I've already gotten us a hotel room to stay at in the From Dust till Dawn Hotel for now."
"That sounds good," Weiss replied as she and Ruby started to walk away.
"So, your dad still doesn't like me?" Ruby asked as she and Weiss sat down at the bar next to each other.
"No," Weiss replied, shaking her head. "He's very adamant that we break up."
"Usual, ladies?" Junior asked as he looked at the couple.
"Yup," Ruby replied, as Weiss simply nodded her head. Ruby then turned back to Weiss. "So, there's nothing you can do?"
"No," Weiss replied. "Not unless you've got any ideas?"
"Well, you could 'pretend' to break up with me," Ruby said. "Then, when you get control of the company, we could get back together officially."
"That might actually work," Weiss replied starting to think carefully about the idea. "Father will definitely hate me though."
"Eh, who cares what he thinks?" Ruby stated. "Honestly, I-"
"Well hello there ladies," someone said from behind them.
Ruby and Weiss turned around. Behind them stood a group of four men, all of whom were trying to get closer to both Ruby and Weiss. The two girls looked at each other and sighed.
"Look while we're flattered by your interest in us," Weiss started. "We're not interested in you, so please do us both a favor and walk away.
"Well, you don't get to speak for the cute little puppy here," one of the men said as he looked to Ruby. "So, how 'bout it?"
"Well," Ruby replied looking at Weiss, "There's only one person who gets to call me 'puppy,' and she's sitting right next to me. Second of all, that girl right here? She's my girlfriend," she finished, putting extra emphasis on the word girlfriend as she pulled Weiss into a kiss.
All four of the men started to back up and clenched their fists.
Ruby and Weiss looked at each other. "Usual way?" Weiss asked.
"Sounds good," Ruby replied with a nod.
"Not again," Junior muttered as he ducked behind the bar.
One of the men threw a punch at Ruby's face, but Ruby blocked it with her forearm and kicked him in the face with the side of her foot. The man was knocked over to Weiss, who swept his legs out from under him, and kneed him in the chin as he fell. The next three all charged at Ruby and Weiss at the same time, and Ruby ducked under the first one's punch, as she kicked a second in the kneecap, and Weiss elbowed the third in the bridge of the nose. Ruby blocked another punch from the only man in the group still standing, and followed it by kicking him in the side of his head with her heel. As Ruby recovered from her last move, she and Weiss looked around the bar and saw the rest of the bar getting up and approaching them.
"Looks like we're in for a long night," Ruby said with a sigh.
Ruby and Weiss looked around at the pile of moaning and unconscious bodies and broken tables, chairs and stools that surrounded them.
"Well, that was fun," Ruby quipped.
"If you two ladies are finished," Junior said, sounding clearly annoyed. "That man over in the corner booth wants to talk to you."
Ruby and Weiss looked in the direction Junior was pointing. In the far corner of the room sat a man with short, grey hair, a friendly but stern face, a small pair of glasses that sat just beneath his eyes, and a mug of coffee held in his hands. Ruby and Weiss walked over and sat down, both looking suspicious.
He took a sip from his coffee. "So, where did you two learn to do all of that?" the man asked, looking over his glasses at the two girls.
"We took a few martial arts classes while we studied at Signal University," Weiss replied. "Why?"
"It's just that not many people out there would be able take down an entire bar full of drunks by themselves with not a scratch on them," the man stated.
"I'm sorry, but who are you exactly?" Weiss asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Apologies," the man replied. "My name is Ozpin. Miss Schnee, I believe you said you want to get away from your father?"
"How do you know who I am?" Weiss asked cautiously.
"Please, Miss Schnee, you're quite a high profile individual. Between Miss Rose here," he said nodding to Ruby, causing her to go wide eyed. "and you rather vocal disapproval of your father's business practices, you're pretty easy to learn about if you know what to look for." Weiss opened her mouth to speak again, but was again interrupted by Ozpin. "As for how I know you want to get away from your father, I heard you two talking as I walked in."
"Okay, I get it," Weiss said angrily. "What do you want exactly? Why did you call us over here?"
"Well, I can offer you a job that gives you way out of your familial obligations, Miss Schnee," Ozpin said. "and that would allow you to stay with Miss Rose."
Weiss and Ruby looked at each other and nodded. "We're listening." Weiss replied.
"Unfortunately, I can't tell you any more here, though I will give you this," Ozpin said as he slid a business card over to the two girls. "If you're still willing, I'm in room 228 in the From Dust till Dawn Hotel. I'm meeting two other individuals at eleven, so why don't you two come see me then?"
With that, Ozpin stood from his seat and walked away, leaving the card on the table Ruby and Weiss stared at it for a moment. The card was simple just a blank white card with a phone number and the company name, though that was what most caught the eyes of Ruby and Weiss. The name of the company was Beacon Mercenary Services.
"So, do you think we should do it?" Ruby asked Weiss as they sat down at a table in their hotel room.
"It's a chance to get away from my father," Weiss replied. "And a chance to spend even more time with you. Win-win to me."
"Still, he said he couldn't tell us more when we asked. We should find out what else he needs from us we say yes or no."
Weiss sighed. "I suppose you're right," she muttered as she looked at the clock. "Well, it's almost eleven. Should we go ahead and go down? Ozpin said he's in room 228, which is pretty much right below us."
"Sure," Weiss replied, and both girls stood up and walked to the door.
Both girls walked through the empty halls in silence. When they finally got to the elevator, Weiss pushed the 'down' button, and they stood to wait.
"Left one's going to be here first," Ruby commented, one of her wolf ears twitching.
Several seconds later, the elevator door on the left side opened.
"I'll never get over how you're able to do that," Weiss muttered as they stepped into the elevator.
"Perks of having two sets of ears," Ruby said with a grin.
Weiss rolled her eyes as she pushed the button for the hotel's second floor. After a couple of seconds, the elevator chimed and the doors opened, revealing another pair of women, one with brilliant purple eyes, a cocky smile, and blonde hair that flowed all the way down her back, and the second was a more serious looking woman, with calm, amber eyes, and a pair of cat ears on her head.
"Yang!" Ruby yelled as she tackled her older sister.
"Hey sis!" Yang replied as she returned the hug.
"What are you and Blake doing here?" Weiss asked.
"We're meeting with someone in room 228," Blake replied as Ruby released her sister and went over to stand next to Weiss.
Ruby and Weiss looked at each other, confused. "So are we," Weiss said.
"Beacon Mercenary?" Yang asked.
"Yup," Ruby replied.
"That's," Blake paused. "really quite unusual."
"Well, since we're all headed the same direction, we might as well get going," Ruby stated.
All four girls walked around the corner from the elevators, and almost immediately spotted the room that they were heading to. They looked at each other, and nodded. Ruby stepped forward and knocked on the door. After several seconds, the door opened to reveal Ozpin.
"Ah, good, you're all here," he said with a smile. "Please, come in." All four girls followed him inside the room, and they sat down at a table. "So, now that you're all here let's go ahead and get started."
"Hold on," Weiss said. "You said that you couldn't tell us everything at the bar. What else is there?"
"If you want to join Beacon Mercenary," Ozpin replied, "There is one more thig that you need to do."
Ruby gripped Weiss's hand a little more tightly as they continued to walk through the empty sidewalk.
"Are you sure there's nothing you could say to convince him?" she asked.
"Well," Weiss replied looking distinctly furious, "the fact he called you, and I quote, a filthy beast, probably not."
"Y'know, I really wish he could see something other than my ears," Ruby muttered, one of her wolf ears twitching slightly.
"Believe me, I do too."
Ruby sighed. "Well I guess there's nothing we can-"
Suddenly, one of Ruby's wolf ears twitched again. Without warning, the the girl suddenly whirled around behind Weiss, just a series of three gunshots rang out. Weiss turned around quickly and grabbed Ruby as she started to fall over.
"R-Ruby?" Weiss stammered, as she slowly lowered herself and Ruby to the ground.
She stared at the three slowly spreading red stains on Ruby's shirt. Tears began to blur Weiss's vision as she stared at the now limp body in her arms.
"Ruby? Please..." Weiss begged.
"Hmph. Pathetic," a voice said from above her. "Weiss Schnee, crying over someone who shouldn't even be more than a simple animal to her."
Weiss looked up, and, through her tear filled eyes, saw a man with bear ears standing over her.
"What are you waiting for?" she choked out. "Just kill me already!"
"And why should I?"
Weiss looked down at the body in her arms. "You already took away the only thing that ever mattered to me!" she screamed. "Just do it!"
"Fine," the man replied, and aimed the gun.
Weiss closed her eyes, listening to the silence that surrounded them. Suddenly, there was a single gunshot, and Weiss smiled as she felt her head hit the ground.
A/N: Here's the last of my recently announced stories that will be added to my current rotation! Shout out to angelsixtwofive and his story Life Lessons Learned the Hard Way for inspiring this one, as well as being the story that somewhat motivated me to create an account here! The other two stories that I announced (the zombie and alien AU's) will be published when one of my other stories drops off of the rotation. It may take a little bit for the real action to kick into gear because team RWBY hasn't had any form of combat training yet aside from some martial arts classes, so this will begin with a training sequence.
With all that said, please follow, favorite, and review! See you folks when I post the next chapter of Flight of a Rose!
Oh, and before I go, yes, Faunus that have animal ears do in fact have two sets of ears, one human and their animal ears. Look at Blake's picture on the RWBY wiki for reference.
