Chapter 3

It took a few hours for Sebastian to come out of the shock induced stupor that he had entered that morning, and at least another hour for him to even compute that Ciel had been in an accident.

"Why?" he threw the question out there, looking over at his mother and father in law, unable to compute why Ciel could have been in an accident, Sebastian wanted nothing more than for it to have been a horrible nightmare, he wanted to go back to sleep and then wake up again to find Ciel in bed cuddled up next to him. But that wasn't going to happen.

Vincent walked over to Sebastian, placing a hand on his shoulder, "the police seem to think that it wasn't Ciel's fault, that someone had pushed the car over. We know that Cole has a hate towards him too, it only seems logical that it could be him."

Sebastian glanced down at the floor, "but…" he began weakly, "everything's going to change now, what… what if he doesn't make it… I don't want to lose him!" Sebastian looked up at the man before him, tears in his eyes, he really didn't want to lose Ciel, to him, it felt like his world was ending.

Vincent took a breath, looking at Rachel for a brief moment, "come on, why don't you get your jacket and we'll get into the car and go visit Ciel in hospital." Vincent knew that the trip to the hospital might not have been the best idea, considering that Sebastian was a bit of a wreck, but he thought that if Sebastian saw Ciel, then he might calm down and relax just a little bit.

Sebastian nodded mutely and shuffled off to get his jacket, a defeated demeanour about himself, he'd tried so hard to keep Ciel from getting hurt as a result of the harassment he had been receiving, but obviously, he had failed, Ciel was hurt, he wasn't going to be able to forgive himself for that. Vincent and Rachel walked along behind him, Rachel slipping her hand into her husband's as she walked,

"he'll be ok? Won't he? Our son will make it?" she asked quietly, nervous of her husband's response.

"I don't know…" Vincent admitted quietly, "I don't know what state he'll be in, but part of me knows that Ciel will try survive, he's got that Phantomhive pride, and stubbornness, he won't be put down that easily."

Rachel nodded and made her way out to the waiting car, she didn't show it, but she too was anxious to see her son, it worried her to no end wondering what state he'd be in, but her upbringing in upper class society had taught her to keep herself composed.

Sebastian followed along numly with Vincent as they got into the car and were driven to the hospital. Sebastian stared quietly out of the window, watching the world go by in some kind of trance, he just wanted to have his husband back, that was the only thing he desperately wanted at that precise second in time, it was the only reality he was willing to accept.

The driver got them to hospital as quick as he legally could, but to Sebastian it was an eternity, every red light they had to stop at sent nerves through the man, every red light cost him seconds of precious time that he could be spending with Ciel, trying to will him to get better, Sebastian didn't want to be away from Ciel for any longer than he had to, but the traffic was serving to irritate him, every red light was against them, as if they knew Sebastian needed to be somewhere. A quiet anger began to roll of the raven haired male as he sat and overthought the situation.

What would have been a 30 minute drive took them nearly an hour and 15 minutes, and for Sebastian that was just unacceptable. For all he knew Ciel could be dying, breathing his last and he wasn't there to be able to say goodbye!

"Sebastian" Rachel called in a gentle voice, wanting to snap him back to reality without startling him too much. "We're here…" she added. Sebastians head snapped up from the spot on the floor of the vehicle. Finally! he thought to himself with an irritated sigh, before proceeding to quickly stumble out of the car, he wanted to get into the hospital as soon as possible.

"Careful" Vincent warned as he prevented Sebastian from falling flat on his face, "you don't want to injure yourself too now, do you?"

Sebastian looked up at Vincent before straightening himself up and shaking his head, "it would do neither of us any good if I was injured too," a slightly rational side to him appeared for a moment. "But saying that" he continued, "I just want to get to him, to know he's ok…" Vincent could only nod at that, he understood Sebastian's need to make sure Ciel was ok, he too wanted to know the condition of his son, he was just doing a better job at keeping his emotions in check, just as he was trained to do so by his father and his father before that. Vincent was an earl after all.

The trio only had to walk into the hospital before they were met with 2 doctors and a receptionist, they knew very well who the Phantomhive family were and how important they were in society, they also knew that it would do them no good to keep them away from Ciel any longer than they already had been. The doctors led them to the side room that Ciel was in, but stopped them, needing to inform them of certain things before they would be allowed into the room. After all it was important they knew the extent of Ciel's injuries, that way it would be less of a shock for them.

Sebastian was irritated by this, it showed in the way that he leaned against the wall, glaring slightly at the doctor. Why couldn't they just let him in to see Ciel? Couldn't they inform Vincent of what was wrong and then Vincent could relay the necessary information to him? It didn't take all three of them waiting did it?

Despite the glares that the doctors were receiving they took no notice, before proceeding to inform them of the injuries that they knew of. "Your son has a punctured lung, several cracked ribs, broken legs, a broken right arm, head trauma, suspected loss of vision in his right eye due to small shards of glass that we have operated on to remove to cause less discomfort, he's in a coma unfortunately, but there was a brief period of consciousness about 10 minutes ago for a few brief moments. He's scheduled to have a CT scan and a MRI later today to check for spinal damage and brain damage." Vincent and Rachel just stood there silent, what could they say, their son was so beat up, and worst of all, in a coma. It wasn't fair! "You can go in and see him now," the doctor continued, "maybe it will help him come round with people he knows around him."

Barely a second after the doctor moved from the door, Sebastian rushed into the room, he had to be beside Ciel. However, no matter what the doctors had said about Ciel's condition, he still wasn't prepared for the state Ciel was in.

He walked over to the side of the hospital bed, taking Ciel's cold hand in his, trying to hold back the tears that wanted to flow. Rachel was stood by the door, a quiet anger fed from her, usually subdued and kind hearted, Rachel wanted nothing but pain to be inflicted upon the one who had put Ciel in this state, no parent should have to see their son so weak. Vincent put an arm around his wife, pulling her close to comfort her. The only other person who needed comfort was Sebastian, but Vincent didn't quite think that was appropriate at the present time. All he could do was pray for Ciel to recover.
