Chapter 2
"Nice place you got here, Lucy." Natsu commented as he, Ayumi, and Happy were in the blonde's room.
"It suits you."
"What are you guys doing in my room?!" Lucy screamed as she was clad in a towel from coming out of the shower.
"Seeing your new home, of course!" Ayumi grinned as she took a bite of her cake.
"What you three are doing is breaking and entering!" Lucy yelled in irritation before kicking the three of them out of her room so she could change her clothes.
"Now, why are you three here?" The blonde asked as she crossed her legs, still upset about their intrusion.
"Can't a friend visit another friend's house?" Natsu asked before changing the subject, "Hey, you use those key spirits to fight, right?"
"I'm a Celestial Mage after all." Lucy nodded before she pulled out a silver key, "I bought this when I was at Hargeon, do you want to see how Celestial Mages form contracts?"
"Are you going to fight them like Ayumi does?" Happy asked, already moving a distance to avoid any future stray hits, "You must not like this place then."
"That's not how it works!" The blond yelled.
Ayumi chuckled before she explained, "That's my way of forming contracts with Pokemon. In order to earn their contract, I need to fit requirements and be able to fight them, well for cases of some of gold Poke-keys anyway. Clover's key is the only gold one I have at the moment though, while the others are silver type keys. Generally, these spirits are different from your own with a different set of rules."
Lucy blinked at the information, "Really? They don't have specific schedules for you to summon them?"
"Not really, it all depends on your magic, and for the most part I can fight on my own too."
"Enough with the boring stuff and get to contract making!" Natsu protested on the side as he'd gotten bored of listening.
"Oh fine." The blond complied as she summoned a white... canine? creature with a cone nose as it constantly trembled. As soon as it appeared, she hugged it with a squeal. "It's so cute!"
The albino mage raised an eyebrow at that, "Sure it is..." She couldn't say anything, as most of the Pokemon that she thought were cute weren't really as such according to others, so if Lucy thought it to be cute, let her.
The three then watched Lucy name the creature Plue and arrange a schedule of when he could be summoned.
"How boring." Natsu sighed.
"Well I'm sorry I'm the boring kind!" The blond exclaimed as she stood up.
As she did, Ayumi peered over to Lucy's desk to notice a stack of papers. "What are those papers on your table?"
When the albino mage asked, Natsu went and picked up the stack. As he did, Lucy panicked. "Isn't this a-?"
"Stay out of people's stuff!" Lucy yelled as she snatched back what was hers. "Why did you guys come into my house, other than to break and enter?"
"I want to have us form a team!" The Dragon Slayer grinned.
"How does that work?" The blond asked curiously, she'd heard of the term, but had never been able to figure it out much through the magazines.
Ayumi was the one to explain, "It's essentially a group working together in completing missions. While there are some mages that prefer to work alone, some guild-mates that get along well form a team of at least two and go on said missions together, or sometimes form them temporarily for certain difficult missions; an example would be that Natsu and Happy are a team, and I work with Erza, Natsu, and sometimes a guy named Gray once in a while, but I otherwise work alone. Teams are a fun thing though, and it's great to start with a team."
Lucy's face seemed to glow in awe as she grinned, "Alright, I'll join your team, Natsu!"
That smile slowly faded as Natsu and Happy's face turned sinister as they turned to the side and muttered to each other.
"Do you hear that? She agreed to join."
"Then we can go on that mission now."
The Poke-Mage rolled her eyes and grabbed to the two by the head. "Don't scare your newly made teammate, you two." She gave a smile as ice started to form on both the cat and Dragon Slayer's head, "Now which mission did you two choose that needed a girl on your team?"
Natsu squirmed as he admitted and pulled out the mission poster, "It's the one that needs a girl pretending to be a maid so we can destroy a book some rich guy owns! We already have the costume prepared for Lucy!"
"The pay is 200,000 jewels!" Happy exclaimed.
Ayumi blinked and let the flailing duo go as Natsu melted the thin layer of ice that nearly covered the entirety of their heads, "Well if it's that one, I suppose it would be a good first mission."
Lucy sweat dropped at the sight, but stated, "Well I do need 70,000 jewels for rent, so I'm willing. Can I see that maid costume for the mission?"
"Sure!" Natsu said as he pulled out a rather simple outfit, for a maid outfit anyway. He'd probably grabbed it from a store with clothes that could convert and accustom itself to any size.
The blond immediately shouted, "No! I am not wearing that!"
"It actually doesn't look too bad." The albino commented.
"Don't take his side, Ayumi!" Lucy berated her senior guild-mate before sighing. "I think I'm going to regret this."
Ayumi just gave her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder, "I'd read the mission if I were you."
"What else is there?" The younger celestial mage asked before she read the assignment out loud and went to the warning, " "Please note, Everlue's a dirty old man who's currently looking for maids with blond hair." It just got worse!"
"It's a good thing that Celestial Mages don't go back on their words, so you're stuck with us. And since you'll be playing the part, Happy will be your master." Natsu smirked while Ayumi just sighed.
"While I'm not a blonde- and no, I am not joining Lucy in disguising, Natsu- I'll tag along for moral support."
Happy saw through the statement, "You just want to come because you're bored and want to see something funny."
"Quiet, Happy, or no fish from me."
On the way to Shirotsume Town
"So how are you enjoying the ride, master?" Lucy smiled mockingly as the Dragon Slayer groaned from being forced to ride in a carriage.
"I'm the master!" Happy yelled.
"Quiet, feline!"
"Now, now, we're almost there." The silverette said as she sat with one hand at her waist, fiddling with her keys. "It's a shame that there won't be much action, but it's a decent start."
"Hey Natsu, why did you ask me to join your team anyway?" Lucy asked, curious as to why he would recruit someone new to the guild.
"You look like a nice person." The pink haired teen replied before groaning, "But you're weird."
Ayumi chuckled at Lucy's reaction of happiness of hearing the praise before she gaped at being called weird, "Well, with the four of us, everyone will get a quarter of the reward; it's much better than splitting it between three people."
Once they arrived, the group wandered the town for a little while as Natsu mentioned, "Man, I'm starving."
"Why don't you eat your own flames?" Lucy wondered, seeing as she's seen him eat flames for what she assumed was for nourishment.
"It doesn't work like that, Lucy." Ayumi explained, "It'd be like eating our own spirits, something I would never even dream of doing. You can't eat something on your side. Though, here's a bit of flames to tide you over until we find a place to eat, Fire type magic: Will o' Wisp."
The blond mage shrieked as eerie purple fireballs flew as her fellow Celestial Mage breathed them out towards Natsu and they floated along with him until he grabbed one to eat with a grin, "Thanks Ayumi!"
Lucy blinked before she walked away, "Well you guys can go ahead and eat, I have something to do before I catch up."
"Oh, alright Lucy." The albino nodded before she, Natsu, and Happy went off to find a place to eat.
"Don't you think we should leave something for Lucy?" Ayumi asked the duo that were scarfing themselves with meat as she herself was filling herself with meat buns, slapping away hands and paws that tried to wander onto her plate.
"We'll just give her the fatty parts." The Fire Dragon Slayer stated with a full mouth as the blue cat agreed.
"Aye! She looks like she likes eating that part."
"I sometimes forget that Happy and Meowth are alike. A pair of smart mouthed cats." The silver haired Celestial Mage thought as she gave the cat a blank stare before finishing her meal.
"Watch your mouth, Cat." Lucy frowned as she walked up to the group.
When they saw her wearing the maid outfit, the boys gaped while the other girl of the team blinked as said boys scooted away to whisper loudly to each other.
"I can't believe she's really wearing it."
"We were just kidding, what do we do?"
"Just go along with it."
Ayumi sighed, "Troublemakers."
At the client's home
"Thank you for taking the time to accept my request; my name is Kaby Melon. Pleased to meet you." A middle aged man greeted as his wife stood beside him.
As Natsu and Happy drooled over the tastiness of the name, Ayumi asked with a smile, "So what's the name of the book we have to steal and burn?"
"We can burn down the whole mansion, if you want." Natsu grinned as he let out a flame with Happy adding.
"He likes fire."
Lucy just gave the two a blank stare, "I am not joining in on arson."
Kaby paid no mind and proceeded to explain, "The book's title is Daybreak, and it must be destroyed. I have raised the reward to 2 million jewels."
The three mages and cat gaped at the amount before the red eyed Celestial Mage rose from her seat, "Consider it done! By Fairy Tail's name, we'll get that book. Let's go, guys."
As the group left the mansion, Lucy commented, "I didn't expect you to be so excited with the reward, Ayumi."
"Why not? I've heard Everlue's a scumbag too, so taking the book, destroying his property, and getting a nice reward to boot is a win all around." Ayumi grinned before an evil glint appeared in her eyes, "Also, he's apparently a collector of rare things, seeing as he's so rich, maybe I'll find a Legendary key if I'm lucky."
At Everlue's mansion
"Good luck, Lucy! You can do it!" Happy cheered quietly as he, Natsu, and Ayumi hid behind a few bushes for when Everlue arrived.
The plan was that once Lucy found her way in the mansion, Ayumi would teleport Natsu and Happy inside to where Lucy was.
The blond gave a shaky smile before announcing, "Excuse me, I'm here for the open maid position!"
"Byoyoyoyo!" The group tensed up as the annoying laughter was heard and the ground rumbled before the pudgy looking man burst up from the dirt.
Everlue was as sleazy looking as his picture, if not more so, as he eyed Lucy, "What an ugly girl. Why on earth would I hire you?"
The word "ugly" seemed to pierce right at the blond while Natsu and Happy gave muffled snickers as Ayumi blinked, wondering just what type of women the pudgy man preferred if he thought Lucy, a fairly pretty girl, was ugly.
The albino would regret being curious as what Everlue called "attractive women" launched out of the ground as they proceeded to insult Lucy before they left.
"To each their own, I guess." Ayumi thought as she waited for them to leave Lucy behind before the three came out from behind the bushes.
"I take it will be plan T then?" Ayumi asked as she, Natsu, and Happy rose from their hiding spot.
The Dragon Slayer grinned at that while Happy cheered, "Hell yeah! Plan Tear the place down!"
Lucy looked over to the silverette, "Is that really plan T?"
"I meant plan Teleport." Natsu slumped at that. "But we can tear the place down after we get our hands on that book." The pinkette beamed.
"But how? Everlue didn't hire me with his awful taste in women, so I can't get us inside." The blond celestial mage asked.
"A little shadow slinking doesn't hurt. Ghost type magic: Phantom Force." Ayumi smirked as she began to recede into her shadow before she threw a red and white orb over to Natsu. "Hold onto that so I can Teleport you three to where I am."
"What is that?" Lucy asked, curious about the orb that was given to the Dragon Slayer.
"Don't know, Ayumi says that the Pokemon sometimes give her weird stuff." Natsu shrugged before they were warped to wherever the albino mage was.
"Is this some sort of weird store room?" Lucy asked before turning see Ayumi hold up a gold key.
"Open the gate of Key-holders! Klefki! Let's go key hunting, Clover!" The Celestial Mage and the floating key-ring had glints in their eyes as they frisked the room.
"Let's go Lucy, Ayumi gets like this whenever we go on missions." Natsu said as he tugged the blond away to begin their search for the book.
Ayumi sighed, "Nothing here... Sense any keys, Clover?"
"Ki!" The Klefki nodded.
"Then lead the way." She paused when she heard crashes. "Sounds like Natsu's at it."
Ayumi ran along the hall to see Natsu beat two guys as he commented, "Uh oh, did I over do it again?"
"Looks like it." The pink haired teen turned to Celestial Mage, "Did you guys find the book?"
"Yeah, it's with Lucy and Happy, but Everlue is after them."
"Ki! Klefki!" Clover uttered as he jiggled his keys.
"So Everlue's who we're after. Got it." Ayumi nodded as she followed the Pokemon into what seemed like the sewage system.
She listened in as Lucy seemed to have discovered some sort of secret that the book held in which Everlue threatened the author to write the book or else his family's citizenship would be revoked and they would have no way to be able to make money, spending three years in isolation to write it.
"I'll have to find evidence of any other crimes he might have done, and send it to the magic counsel. Clover might even be able to pilfer a key or two off of him." Ayumi glanced over to the Klefki to swipe all the keys that look like they might be Legendary Keys while she headed off to get incriminating evidence to send to Makarov in case Everlue tried to sue or take any countermeasures from this event.
"This might just be the happiest day of my life~" Ayumi simply beamed as they walked back to Magnolia after finding out that their client couldn't actually pay them.
"Why? We couldn't get paid. She says." Lucy asked from within Horologium.
"After years of searching, I've found my first ever Legendary Key!" The older Celestial Mage grinned as she held her key. "It's the key of victory, Victini! I'll gain my contract with it as soon as we get home to try."
"Awesome! I wanna fight after that!" Natsu grinned.
"You're on, Natsu."
"That's great, but are we even going the right way? She ponders." Horologium commented.
"My nose knows the way." Happy stated confidently.
"Dogs are the one with the keen senses. She states blankly. Can't you teleport us again, Ayumi? She asks."
"I suppose I can handle the amount of people considering we aren't that far from Magnolia. Alright, Psychic type magic: Te-" Ayumi was interrupted as Natsu lunged into the bushes, and seconds later, out came Natsu and Gray in only his boxers.
Ayumi blankly stared at the two mages as they started arguing.
Unlike Erza, she didn't do much to stop them when they were like this; she knew full well that these two were practically brothers- arguments, rivalries and all.
That wasn't to say that it never got annoying.
The albino mage sighed as the two started fighting before she stated. "Normal type magic: Bind."
Lucy gaped as Ayumi's long hair extended as it wrapped around Natsu and Gray.
The two froze when they felt the hair tightening around them as they turned to the second strong female mage.
"Do stop bickering before I turn you two into hair accessories." Ayumi stated with the two immediately replying.
"Yes, ma'am!"
"Ayumi's pretty scary..." Lucy commented.
The silver haired mage sighed, "Since we're closer to town, I'll just teleport us there. I want to meet Victini already."
"Don't forget you promised a rematch afterwards, Ayumi!" Natsu exclaimed while Gray glanced at him.
"Are you insane? The last time, she beat you and got you motion-sick with a whirlpool."
"It'll be different this time!" Natsu argued.
"How is it like fighting Ayumi?" Lucy asked, "Does she use her spirits to fight for her, like most celestial mages do? Or does she use those spells?"
"I wouldn't say that I'm conventional or the strongest." Ayumi answered, "I still have a ways to go before I can beat Erza."
"Erza?"
Gray explained, "She's the strongest female mage of Fairy Tail, stronger than Ayumi."
"She's scary too." Natsu added.
"She's actually coming back soon." The half naked teen informed.
The Poke-mage grinned, "Really?! That's great! We haven't talked since we decided to take separate missions."
Lucy sweat dropped as the two boys looked the opposite of how excited Ayumi was and asked. "I've only heard of her here and there, what is Erza like?"
"Erza's really cool." Ayumi replied, "Working with her is fun. I started working with her after- well that doesn't matter. Let's head back. Psychic type magic: Teleport. "
Lucy didn't know why the silver haired mage changed the topic so quickly when she seemed to enjoy talking about Erza. The boys didn't say anything either-not even the smart mouthed Happy said anything- did something happen before Lucy arrived to Fairy Tail?
