AN: Just a Microfic to get this anime out of my blood for a little while.
Long After the name 'Sidonia' had been erased from living memory…
"Pilots, reverse thrust!"
At the command four Guardians rotated and slowed their movements, Higgs propulsion units heating up with the force necessary to reduce their force. In the dead of space they made no noise, only emitted heat and light.
Slowing down to match the speed of the drifting seed ship the grey and navy blue mechs floated towards the long, concrete cylinder which had been detected moving lazily in a gap between stars. It was obviously of human origin, even though the outside was pockmarked with countless craters marring the shape.
"This mission is for observation only, attempt to hail from close range, and barring that carefully scan the shafts in the meteor component."
"Yes Ma'am." Replied the four at once as they set down on the surface of the ship. They knew that it was a 'seed ship', one of the old horses used during the Gaunus war, but beyond that there was little else that could be discerned. The Kashmir didn't have the ancient archives that had been passed from the Gaelagus, its progenitor that had escaped earth nearly two thousand years prior and was unable to ID it.
"Looks like Higgs laser scarring over most the aft is concentrated near a cavity 100 meters from the front." The leader observed as she glanced around the holo-display of the surface and her surroundings. The thing about space was that sometimes it was hard to tell what was freak accident and what was an attack. "No hailing channels on scanner and no passive ping."
"So it's either gutted or long-dead." The second grunted as she walked with a squadmate to the cavity the first had pointed out. Kneeling down and activating the external lighting she was able to see the hell that had been wrought. A mess of cables, fluid containers and a few shards of metallic source were frozen around the edges. Breaking one of the crystals and clenching it in a fist a charge coursed through the metal until it heated above zero kelvin. "Syntax, what's the reading?"
"Ferrofluid for capacitor use. Load contents are probably that which are used in inter-ship class Higgs Cannons." The mech replied as the hand unclenched and the metal poured back into the pit. "Nothing remarkable."
"Engaging something with the Main Cannon while enemies were at close quarters. What the hell happened here?" The third said with a low whistle. "Geode and I are going to see if we can crack into the system. Command, requesting a drop of high-variance capacitors to revive the dead circuits?"
"Request accepted. Inter-ship transport capsule will land in two minutes."
"Alright!" The fourth finally said once she was certain she would get a chance to head into a dead seed ship. "Since Geo and Rico are on resurrection duty can the rest of us head into the giant tin can?"
"I wonder if it's filled with dead Gaunus…" Her mech said pensively, clawed hands flexing. "Ah, but they broke into a whole bunch of bubbles, didn't they?"
"Focus." Was the stern command of the lead guardian as she led the six of them into the mining complex of the ship. "It is not unlikely that there will be some Gaunus remnant inside. We know many seed ships were destroyed thanks to Gaunus-Human interactions. You, and that includes the Chimera, need to keep your heads on straight."
"Yes ma'am." Were the four replies.

Oh Gods,
Oh Gods,
I have sinned,
I have sinned,
And broken thee,
Shattered the sky and seen thee,
Broken your legs and torn your heart,
Tied your hair and knotted your sinew,
For you created Us as You,
And we recreated Us, as Sin.
