Author's Note

Here's the epilogue! It's quite short but I hope you will still like it!

Warning: Too much fluff and cheesy stuff

OOC Alert: This is fanfiction. If the characters in here don't act the way they do in the books, I take all the blame. After all, characterization is one of my biggest flaws as a fanfic writer. So if you don't like a different Jace or Clary (and the other characters by Cassie Clare), I suggest you do not read this story.

Disclaimer: The Mortal Instruments and all its characters all belong to Cassandra Clare. I merely borrowed them for this story. The plot and everything else in this story is all mine, though.

Arrhythmia

Epilogue

Even with the popularity of gadgets, the public library was still bustling with people. In a corner shelf in the Fiction section, two figures stand, looking at the books. One tall blonde and a shorter redhead.

"So," Jace says. "I'll be in university next fall."

Clary nods. "Uh-huh. No more MVP for Lightwood's soccer team."

"But I'll still grace the gates with my presence." He grins. "You know since I have to drive someone to school every now and then."

"Really? I didn't know you're such a good friend to Mark."

"Of course." Jace wraps an arm around Clary's waist and pulls her closer to him. "You know I'll miss going to the same school as you."

Clary giggles quietly. "You mean you'll miss trying to do some PDA with me?"

He squeezes her waist. "I'll just miss you. I'll think about you all the time. What if someone tries to do something to you?"

"Don't worry about me. If anyone tries to do anything, I'll just have to kick them or something. I'll figure it out."

"That's my girl. 'And though she be but little, she is fierce'."

"Since when did you start quoting Shakespeare?" She teases.

"A Midsummer's Night Dream." He grins proudly. "I've been reading a lot lately. And since the new books these days are almost all alike, I found love with the classics."

"Really?"

"Uh huh. Aren't you proud of me?"

"Not really," Clary replies, though she knows the smile on her face gives her away.

They resume scanning the bookshelf. "Are you sure you're fine with not winning Prom King?" She has been asking him the same question since the previous week. Apparently, before people found out they were going out, Jace was leading among the candidates. When they found out about him and Clary, a lot of girls decided not to vote for him in the end.

Jace chuckles. "I told you I'm fine. I got crowned Prom Prince when I was a junior so no big deal. Besides, Seb deserved the crown, too. And…" He grabs her shoulder so they can face each other. "I was Homecoming King this year. Aren't you a lucky queen?"

Clary bites her lips. "Maybe."

He shakes his head, says, "Oh, yes. You are," and leans down to kiss her.

It was a short kiss and Clary sighs after Jace pulls away. "We should pick our books now."

"Yeah."

As they start to gather the books they were looking for, Jace speaks again. "Do you remember the first time we met?"

Clary nods as she gestures for him to reach for the book she couldn't reach. "Yup. In the school library. I was looking for a required reading in my English class but you were right in front of the bookshelf and —"

"Had my tongue down someone's throat," he finishes for her, chuckling and pinching her nose which was scrunched up in disgust. "You were so mad and all. Who would have thought that by the end of the school year, you would be the one making out with me in a library?"

"Shut up," she says. "And we just had a short kiss, for your information. Not making out."

"Friendly reminder that we're still in the library, so…" he winks at her.

Clary pushes Jace a little. "Eww, no."

"Come on Clary," Jace urges. "I fucking –"

"Language," Clary says with a reprimanding voice.

The expression on Jace's face turns panicked. Ever since they started dating, Clary had been strict about him not cursing. But sometimes, his tongue still slips. "Sorry! Don't punish me." The last time he cursed, Clary had a kissing ban for a week.

She lets out a silent laugh. "Okay, just this once. Come on, let's have these books checked out." She hands the last book to him and they both proceed to the check-out counter. It's only been a week since classes ended but Clary decided she wants to read novels, knowing she'll have to forego the activity to prepare for her university entrance exams for the majority of her school break.

"The Mortal Instruments," the girl at the counter says as she picks up the book at the top of the pile Clary and Jace gave her. "You know, you two somewhat fit the description of the two main characters."

Jace pulls Clary closer to him. "Oh really? Do they have a happy ending?"

The librarian nods. "Yes. After going through a lot of things, they did have a happy ending that they deserved."

Jace looks down at Clary and plants a soft kiss on her nose. Clary reddens at the action. "Just like us," he whispers.

"Yeah," Clary replies as she takes a few steps back from Jace. She turns to the girl. "Sorry for that. Can you have the books checked out? I'm afraid any more minutes we spend here, my boyfriend will try to make some more PDA with me."

The librarian laughs a little. "Sure. By the way, you two look so good together."

"I'm sure we do," Jace says the same time Clary says, "Thank you." The two look at each other and share a laugh.

They leave the library still laughing over something they were talking about and just like that, they blended with the people walking down the streets. A girl and a boy carrying books while walking side by side. Just like an ordinary couple.
