A/N: wow, I was re-reading this sucker and realized I left it unfinished. So here it comes , the long-awaited conclusion!... Well two versions of it. Kyra's and mine. There's two authors after all

Sango's ending:

5 years later...

The wind howled the entire night as the storm came through, washing away what was left of the battle field. The titans were no longer the enemy. The outside world had proven to be much colder than the cage they had once known.

Regret went through the soldiers' hearts when they learned this. It was too late to go back, too late to negotiate. They exited the walls to be met with guns pointed in their direction. After years of fighting, however, an armistice had been reached. The people within the walls gave the people outside access to the gold, silver, and copper, mines, and a cave once held by the Reiss family full of a glowing substance now known as radium.

It was a raw deal, to say the least, but it got the people of the wall their freedom… to leave the walls at least.

Using this newfound freedom, many families left the walls and went as far as possible. Past the forest of giant trees, the mountains, the meadows, and finally ending up at the sea. It was here that they set up small farming villages. One village, in particular, was most notably occupied by veterans of the recently disbanded Scouting Legion from what was already being called the "Titan era."

Levi sat down in the soon-to-be study of a modest cottage. He looked up through the unfinished roof to see the clouds overhead. The air tasted fresh and cool. The weather was perfect today. warm, but not too warm. Enough where one can justify sinking their feet into the sand as they relax on the beach. He looked around the room, at the boxes that needed to be unpacked, and the building that needed to be finished. His eyes then centered in on a photograph standing in a frame on his desk.

It was his and Petra's wedding day.

She stood next to him, smiling (despite the photographer's instructions) in her flowing white gown and veil. In her arms was a six-month-old infant with a similar dress and a headband with a bow. The best day of his life had been recorded onto a piece of glass just like tha-

"DADDYYYYY" A little girl's voice called.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." Levi got up from the chair, still covered in a fabric sheet to prevent sawdust or dirt to fall on it. He walked down the hallway out the back door to be greeted by Anastasia holding up a horshoe crab up over her head.

"His name is Eren jr. Can I keep him? Can I?" she asked excitedly

"I don't think the Jaegers would be too happy if you named one of those things after their toddler." he responded

"Oh come on, Mommy said no too!" she whined

"Well, there's a reason for that. Do you know what that thing eats?"

"No…"

"It eats… Little girls!" Petra snuck up behind her daughter and picked her up as Levi freed the crustacean from the child's grasp and tossed it back into the water.

He smiled slightly, looking at his small family. The one thing he was proud of creating. After killing hundreds upon hundreds of titans, and seeing even larger numbers of his soldiers die, the one good thing he kept in his heart was his wife and daughter.

Sure they didn't have much, an unfinished cabin, two horses, and some boxes with personal belongings, but it was enough.

He was happy

She was happy

Their daughter was happy.

It was enough.

The End.

Kyra's version

"Daddy, you'll be late for my first day of trainees." The small voice pulls Captain Levi from his shallow slumber. He opens his eyes and groggily looks at the little girl standing next to his chair. A smile tugs at the corner of his mouth at the sight of her standing there, dressed in her trainee uniform. His eyes quickly shift from his oldest daughter to the four day old infant sleeping in the crook of his arm.
"Hush, you'll wake your brother." He half heartedly scolds his daughter. His smile turns into a frown when he sees her roll her onyx eyes.
No, this was impossible. His little girl was growing up way too fast. She was no longer the tiny little baby that would doze off on his lap as he would tell her stories about his adventures exploring the outside world. She was now a young woman, closely resembling her mother in every way, with the exception of his onyx eyes, "button" nose and his muscular disposition. He couldn't be more proud of his oldest daughter, over the years she has proven to be strong both inside and out.
He motions his daughter closer to him and opens his desk drawer, retrieving a small box. He places the box into her hands, being mindful of the still sleeping infant in his arms.
"This is for you. I gave your mother a similar one when I asked her to marry me." He explains. Her eyes widen in surprise. She opens the box and pulls out a simple, silver necklace. She gingerly fingers the pendant that resembles a bird's wing and gives her father a wide smile.
"It's beautiful, thank you so much!" She gives Levi a quick hug and allows him to fasten the chain around her neck before pulling on his hands. "Now get up, I don't want to be late. I don't want Jaeger's kids to get there before I do."
Levi rolls his eyes at his daughter's persistence, another thing that she had inherited from her mother. He gently hands the newborn to his daughter before standing from his chair and grabbing his own leather jacket. "It doesn't matter who gets there first, idiot. Don't fuck around and don't give up, then you'll graduate at the top of your class, just like your mother and I did."
He hesitates for a moment before continuing. "I'm proud of you, Rena Anastasia Ackerman."
Rena's cheeks turn light pink when she hears her father's words. She tries to move in to hug her father but is interrupted when she hears the baby in her arms start to whimper. Levi internally smacks himself when the whimpers turn to shrill cries. He was hoping to keep the baby boy asleep until after he dropped his daughter off at trainees so his wife would have time to sleep.
"I'll take you to trainees soon, Eren needs his breakfast. Are your siblings awake yet?"
"Yes… Petra, Isabel, Farland, Thomas, and Ian are all awake. They wouldn't leave me alone until I helped them with breakfast…" the preteen grumbles, following Levi into the dining room.
"Good morning daddy!" The chorus of young children greet him when he walks into the room. He blinks, the sight of his five children sitting around the breakfast table, chattering without a care in the world as his daughter stands by his side triggers something from deep inside.
It's alright, dumbass he tells himself as he steadies himself the counter, it won't happen again. I won't let it happen again.
The voices in the room suddenly begin to blur. He closes his eyes.
Anastasia…
"Daddy? Are you feeling okay?" Isabel asks him, she stands up and touches his arm when he doesn't respond. "Daddy?"
Levi recognizes the ping of fear in his daughter's voice. He's heard it many times before. However, this time the ping of fear in his daughter's voice mimics another voice almost perfectly. "Daddy… daddy help me…"
Levi is standing in the medical tent. The nurse grimly shakes her head as she stares down at the girl lying on the cot. "Poor child…" She says as she strokes Anastasia's coal black hair.
Levi can only stare down at his daughter, the tears that are running down his cheeks fall onto the space where her legs should have been. Anastasia stares back at him, unable to move. Unable to stand. Unable to save herself from the brigade of titans closing in on them….
"Levi." Hanji's voice is urgent as she rushes into the tent. "Levi, please. We need you out there, we need you killing those titans."
"I'm not leaving her!" He snaps at the commander. She takes his hand.
"Levi, please. Listen to me. There are hundreds of soldiers out there who need your help. I will do everything to make sure your daughter is safely evacuated with all of the other patients."
Levi looks back on Anastasia one last time. He bends down and presses a kiss on her forehead before he pull out his blades and follows Hanji outside.
Hanji promised she would save you.
I promised to protect you.
Anastasia… I am so sorry….
I will avenge you.
"Levi!" His thoughts are interrupted when he feels the sting from the slap across his face. He opens his eyes and finds himself staring into his wife's face.
"Mikasa…" He pulls his wife of thirteen years into an embrace, she hugs him back tightly. "You're supposed to be resting."
"You idiot… how can I be resting when you're scaring me and our children?"
"Are you okay, papa?" Farlan asks, hugging his father's leg. Levi reaches down and pats his son's head.
"I'm fine… I just had a bad memory is all."
"Was it about.. them?" Mikasa knowingly takes her husband's hand. He looks at her and nods.
Levi knows that he wouldn't have been able to get past those dark years without her by his side. When he received news about Anastasia's death she took over his position while he grieved. She later celebrated with them when he received news about Petra's pregnancy and later held him close on the filthy tile floor of the hospital's waiting room when they received the news that there had been complications. His son was stillborn and Petra had lost too much blood during the delivery. She never woke up.
After that awful day Levi locked himself in his office. He refused to talk to anyone except for Mikasa. One day she came into his office, her eyes were red from crying. When he asked her what had happened she explained that she had confessed her love to Eren. However, Jaeger proved how big of an idiot he is when he told Mikasa that he didn't love her that way and he was going to propose to Historia that night.
When Levi heard this he could no longer hold back his feelings for her. He quickly leaned in and kissed her as hard as he could. The rest of the night was a blur, it was the best sex that he ever had. They're relationship continued to grow, both Levi and Mikasa were the happiest they've ever been. That is until Mikasa came back to his office, bearing the best news he's heard in years: she was expecting his child. His precious Rena was born seven months later. Only four months after their daughter's birth Mikasa announced she was pregnant yet again. They were married that night in Hanji's office. It was a simple wedding, they both wore their cleanest clothes and the only witnesses were Eren and his wife and their newborn twins. Even though their wedding was far from extraordinary, Levi considers it perfect.
"Levi… are you going to be okay?" He hears his wife's voice again. He shakes his head and smiles at her.
"Don't worry, Mikasa." He replies, "I wasn't thinking about anything important." He wraps his arm around her waist and grabs Rena's hand.
Levi Ackerman has made many mistakes in his life. He swears that he won't make them again. This time he will protect them.
