Kono let herself into Chin house, dropping her bag and wandering through the the lanai. Chin had text her to come over and help him out after Sara had begun acting out at school. He had disciplined her resulting in a lot of crying and shouting from the young seven year old. He was concerned he had been to harsh on her, it was like he had had to do it before. Despite having Abby's presence in the house both were very aware she was not her mother and Sara had got to know Kono better due to Abby being away a lot.
"Hey cuz" Kono said with a smile when she found Chin outside.
Chin looked up with relief in his eyes, thankful to see his cousin standing before him.
"Hey Kono"
"So what did she do?" Kono asked as she took a seat.
"She hit another kid and shouted at him"
"Wait she hit a boy?"
"Yeah" Chin said with a sigh.
Kono couldn't help but smirk a little, inwardly proud of her niece.
"Oh"
"It's not a good thing cuz" Chin said sternly, rolling his eyes. "I should have known you would find this funny"
"Hey I don't find it funny…I'm just proud" Kono said with a giggle.
"Cuz she can't hit other students and shout at them, she was really rude…it isn't like her" Chin sighed.
"I know cuz…I will go talk to her" Kono said softly as she stood. "Just remember I hit a kid once at school and you were proud of me" Kono smirked.
"Yeah only after I lectured you" Chin called as Kono strolled of to find Sara.
Kono knocked on Saras door,and peered round. The young girl was curled up on her bed, clutching a teddy, he hair falling in her eyes.
"Auntie Kono?" Sara said in surprise
"Hey baby girl" Kono smiled as she sat on the edge of the bed, brushing Saras hair out her face.
"Why you here?" Sara asked, her voice broken as her lip quivers slightly.
"I want a super duper cuddle" Kono said comically.
Sara grinned and sat up snuggling into Kono's side.
"I missed you" Sara whispered.
"I saw you Saturday"
"Hmmm"
"Hey so Uncle Chin told me you got in a little trouble at school, you wanna talk to me about that?" Kono asked softly trying not to sound scary and angry.
Sara bit her lip nervously. She was scared to be in more trouble and didn't want her auntie Kono mad at her.
"Are you mad?"
"No I just want to know what happened and why" Kono said as she listen Sara into her lap.
Sara took a moment to think but decided she could tell her auntie Kono.
"Tai was being mean to me…he said I don't have a family because mummy and daddy are dead" Sara said softly fighting tears.
Kono was heartbroken that a kid at school was saying these things to Sara.
"Sweetheart you do have a family, you have uncle Chin, me, Uncle Steve, uncle Danny, Abby and everyone else, you know that right?"
"Yeah but I don't have a mummy or daddy"
"Oh you do baby, there just not here right now…you still have a family. Remember what Uncle Steve says, were Ohana" Kono explained.
"We have to write something about our mummies and daddies for homework…but what do I wrote?" Sara asked.
Kono hated seeing her niece so upset and confused.
"How about you write about Uncle Chin and Abby…you can say they have a super important job because mummy left them in charge of looking after you…and maybe you can write that your auntie Kono is the coolest, better than uncle Chin and Abby" kono said with a giggle.
Sara grinned and straddled Kono to face her, holding her hands round Kono's neck.
"I can write about how big my Ohana is!"
"Yeah! Hey what if I help you write it then we can go surf?"
Sara smiled briefly before bowing her head.
"Uncle Chin said I'm not allowed to go surfing for a week" Sara said sadly.
Kono rolled her eyes and whispered in Sara's ear. "Let me talk to Uncle Chin"
Sara giggled when Kono winked at her.
"Okay"
"Hey, Sara you know it's not good to hit people though right?"
Sara nodded her head gently.
"I know"
"I understand why you did it though, and i'm proud that you stood up for yourself, but next time if someone is being mean to you, you gotta go tell the teacher or ask them to stop nicely…or come tell me" Kono grinned.
"Okay…i'm sorry"
"Hey, that's okay sweetie…come on let's go talk to Uncle Chin"
Kono led Sara outside to find Chin in the same spot. Kono stood with Sara in front of her, her hands on Sara's shoulders holding her in place.
"We've had a chat and someone's got something to say" Kono said softly, pushing Sara forward.
Sara stepped forward and looked to her uncle.
"I'm sorry I hit Tai"
"That's okay sweetheart" Chin said moving to hug Sara.
"So were going to go surf now" Kono said with a grin not leaving room for discussion.
Chin rolled his eyes at his baby cousin.
"Bring her back by seven" Chin said with a laugh.
Sara giggled and jumped into her auntie Kono's arms as the two left to go have some quality surfing time.
