Hugo was sitting in the commons area with Chelsea and a few cats. It was a hotel restaurant converted into a den with couches arranged around a large television. Chelsea was sitting on one of the couches wearing a white blouse with a black skirt and no shoes working on a laptop while Hugo was laying back in a chair wearing jeans, sneakers, and a black t-shirt.
A wedding had taken place that Sunday. Two souls were finally united, and Chelsea was the photographer to capture the happy event. She was now working to get the photos edited and put together on a compact disc to share with the new couple.
Hugo had not participated in the event. It was the anniversary of the death of his father and step-mother, so as he did every year, he took the time to mourn and remember. He usually preferred to be alone, but he didn't mind Chelsea's company. Everyone else was outside celebrating.
It was quiet in the room. The day had gone into evening. The light was low outside the windows. All was peaceful.
"Argh!" Chelsea said angrily to herself while changing positions on the couch for the millionth time more out of difficulty sitting still than an effort to get comfortable.
"What is the matter, Chelsea?" Hugo asked her.
"I can't focus!" she yelled out in frustration while pulling her white blouse off revealing the black tank top underneath. "No matter what I do or what I try I can't stay focused for long enough to get this done! I hate my stupid ADHD mind!"
"You don't mean that."
"Yes, I do. My mind is focusing on everything except what I'm trying to do right now and I can't stop it!"
"It's alright, Chelsea."
"No, it's not! I wish God would just make my mind normal!"
"You will find a way to get this done, Chelsea. You just need to calm down and take deep breaths, child."
"Okay."
"I have an idea. How about for every sentence you say to me you have to edit one photo? How does that sound?"
"Alright," Chelsea said pulling her hair out of her face with her hair tie. "I'll try."
"That's the first one," Hugo said with a smile. "Now, edit one photo."
Chelsea edited her photo and moved on to the next one.
"I did it," Chelsea said.
"Now, move on to another one. That's another sentence."
"Okay."
Chelsea edited two more photos and then found it easier to move on and continue editing.
"Are you alright now, Chelsea?" Hugo asked.
Chelsea nodded as she settled back against the arm of the couch.
After several more minutes of silence, Kayla came flying in wearing a white dress with a black jacket and rotating an apple around herself.
"Hey, there!" Kayla said. "What are you doing?"
"Kayla, Chelsea is trying to work," Hugo said gesturing to his friend. "Don't be so loud."
"It's alright, Hugo," Chelsea said while not looking away from her work. "What are you doing in here, Kay?"
"I'm taking a break from the party," Kayla said causing an apple to float in front of Chelsea's face. "I snagged you some food. Have you eaten yet?"
Chelsea took a bite from the apple and said, "I have, but I appreciate it. Thank you!"
"No problem," Kayla said flying the apple back to her own face and taking a bite of it herself. "What are you working on?"
"Editing photos of the wedding party."
Kayla flew behind her, looked at her pictures, and said, "These look good, but you're missing the fun party now."
"I was out there for a while," Chelsea replied before taking another bite of the apple. "Besides, I want to get these done before Therese and Felix go to their honeymoon suite. I wanted to give these to them."
"Are you sure that they will really care about looking at them tonight? I'm pretty sure that they'll have other plans once the party is over if you know what I mean. You might as well enjoy yourself."
Chelsea paused for a second and said, "You have a good point, but I'm almost done. I'll finish these up and head back out there."
"What about you, Hugo?" Kayla asked as she buzzed around Hugo's head. "I didn't see you at the wedding. Where have you been today?"
"I've been mourning," Hugo responded in irritation.
"For who?"
"My father? He died today."
"Oh, that doesn't mean you have to miss the wedding. Albina didn't…"
"Hey!" Chelsea yelled at her. "Leave him alone. Let him mourn."
"Alright," Kayla said. "I'm sorry. I'll just sit here in the corner, play my videogames, and let the 'grown-ups' be quiet."
Kayla pulled her headphones and her mini-3DS out of her jacket pockets and began to play only stopping at intervals to munch her apple.
Chelsea plugged her headphones that were connected to her father's tablet in and listened to an old radio show while continuing her work. She was very focused. A black cat named Tabitha jumped on her and curled up on her lap where her laptop was, but Chelsea simply created a disc to make the device float over the cat so she could continue her work.
Meanwhile, Albina came in to take a break, too. She was wearing a black pencil skirt and a blue-collared blouse with black high heels and she was carrying an apple.
"Hello, my friends!" Albina said as she made her entrance. "How are you on this enchanting evening?"
Chelsea raised her hand to say hi. Hugo stared at his stepsister angrily.
"Once again, you have managed to disturb my Zen," Kayla said without looking up.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Albina said as she put the apple in front of Kayla's face. "You do not look like you're meditating."
Kayla pulled the apple to her face telekinetically, took a bite, and then said, "I am so. I am meditating on the spiritual message behind Pokémon."
Albina responded with an eye roll.
"By the way, why are you dressed so fancy?" Kayla asked.
"It is a wedding," Albina replied. "You are supposed to dress well for weddings. Are you not?"
"I don't just mean this wedding. I mean all the time. You are always dressed fancy."
"I prefer to dress like I have class. Is there something wrong with that?"
"Only if you're arrogant," Hugo said passive aggressively.
"It's a good thing I'm not arrogant then," Albina replied, ignoring his jab.
Hugo replied by looking away.
Kayla flew the apple in front of Chelsea's face. She leaned forward, took a bite, and let Kayla take it away. Kayla then offered it to Hugo who refused it. She gave it back to Albina who held it in her hand and took a bite before Kayla started the process over again.
Albina pulled up a chair next to Chelsea's and looked over her shoulder at what she was doing.
"You are working on the pictures for Therese and Felix already?" Albina asked. "Even by my standards, that is fast. They won't look at them until later."
"That's what I told her," Kayla interjected.
"I know," Chelsea replied while Kayla passed the apple to Albina who took a bite of it herself. "I just want to get this done before I go look at the stars tonight. I want to get photographs of the Milky Way like in National Geographic."
"That sounds fun," Albina said as she sat back in her chair. "I will have to join you at some point. Kayla, do you have a copy of Pride and Prejudice or any other book for that matter? I want to read it."
"It's not on my person if that's what you mean," Kayla replied.
"I guess I will sit here and enjoy the silence," Albina said.
"There are other things you could be doing," Hugo said passive aggressively.
"I have done those other things," Albina said beginning to get irritated with his tone. "Now, I want to do something else."
Before Hugo could start arguing with his step-sister, Chelsea pulled out her Dad's tablet and her headphones.
"Albina, want to listen to a radio show with me instead of annoying your step-brother?" Chelsea asked her while she offered her an ear bud to listen to.
"You know I enjoy partaking in your interesting hobbies," Albina said taking the earbud.
"Interesting? What do you mean by that?"
"You're listening to radio shows from hundreds of years ago…"
"That's practically the dawn of time," Kayla said having overhead the conversation.
"That's only the dawn of radio," Chelsea said as she bit into the apple that was in front of her face.
"Damn," Kayla said sarcastically.
"Nonetheless," Albina said. "It is interesting to hear how the world was different back then. What else did you think I meant?"
"From your tone, I thought you were insulting me," Chelsea said flipping through her Dad's podcasts to find one she felt like listening to.
"That's an easy mistake to make," Hugo said.
"Okay, we're listening to Al Jolson," Chelsea said desperately trying to make Albina stop glaring at him and avoid an argument.
Albina leaned back in the chair and shut her eyes as Chelsea handed her the apple to bite into. The Al Jolson Show started playing and Chelsea sang along to the opening as she continued editing.
"There's a rainbow 'round my shoulder," Chelsea sang while she continued editing. "And a sky of blue above!"
"Why does she do that?" Kayla asked while looking away from her game.
"Why does she do what?" Albina asked.
"Sing whenever she does anything. I have always wondered that."
"It helps her focus, dear."
Kayla got a mischievous thought in her head and started moving the cat.
"Kayla, don't do that," Chelsea said while the cat was struggling on her lap without stopping what she was doing. "Don't disturb Tabitha."
"That broke the focus," Kayla said in satisfaction.
"Leave her alone, Kayla," Albina said.
"Come on," she replied flying over. "I'm just having a little fun. I also want the cat."
Without skipping a beat, Chelsea placed a disc under the cat and moved her over to the ground. Kayla tried picking her up but the cat swiped at her and startled her so that she dropped the animal on the floor and allowed her to run away.
Kayla then tried picking up and dropping Chelsea from a foot into the air a couple of times to stop her focus but that didn't work either. Chelsea got fed up with her hijinks and created a shield around Kayla that pushed her back to her side of the room.
"Hey!" Kayla yelled at her.
Albina chuckled quietly to herself while listening to the podcast at the same time.
"How does Chelsea do that?" Kayla asked while flying over her. "Most of the time, her focus is all over the place, but sometimes, she gets super-focused and nothing can distract her."
"It's called hyper-focus, Kayla," Albina said while making herself comfortable in the chair. "It happens when Chelsea's brain becomes over-focused to the point where she doesn't notice what is going on around her. It is common in people with ADHD."
"That makes two of you," Hugo said from his chair.
Albina had had enough. She stuck the other ear bud into Chelsea's ear and walked over to her step-brother while Kayla re-focused her attention on her game.
"Out with it, Hugo," Albina said to him while he stood up. "What is your problem?"
"You are so high and mighty acting like nothing happened today," Hugo said. "Do you have no respect for the dead?"
"I have enough respect to live as my mother would wish me to," Albina said holding her ground and crossing her arms. "I do not grieve openly as you do."
"You do not grieve at all. You don't even care."
"That is not true and you know it. You cannot accept the fact that there are humans who act differently than you do. You cannot leave the bubble that is your own mind."
"You are cold. Admit it! Your heart is as dead as the ice that covers your mother and my father. You feel nothing towards them anymore. That is why you're acting so damn composed. I'm ashamed of you. Our parents would be too, you little demon."
Albina snapped. She shot ice around Hugo's feet up to his waist as her eyes filled with tears. She then turned around and ran out of the room.
That got Chelsea's attention. She took out her ear buds, shut her laptop, got up, and walked over to Hugo who was melting the ice off his body.
"What the hell was that?!" Chelsea yelled.
"You saw her, Chelsea," Hugo said. "She doesn't care and I'm sick of seeing it and hearing her pretend that she does."
"Look, if you're going to argue, could you go into another room?" Kayla asked. "I'm trying to game over here."
Chelsea grabbed Hugo by his glove as the last of the ice melted and pulled him into the kitchen. The area was inhabited only by Brandon who was skinning a dead deer with his father. Chelsea pulled Hugo past them without saying a word and closer to the cabinet in the back. When they were walking by, Brandon picked up the dead dear by the head and pulled it close to Chelsea's.
"Ahhh!" Chelsea yelled out in surprise while she kept walking. "Brandon, don't do that!"
"Chelsea?" Brandon asked quietly stopping her in her tracks as Hugo walked ahead to avoid a conversation with a person he disliked. "What is going on?"
"Drama," she whispered while gesturing towards Hugo with her head.
"That is why I keep telling you not to be friends with him," Brandon said. "He's nothing but a…"
"I'm nothing but a what," Hugo said after he unexpectedly walked back over. "You care to tell me to my face?"
"Stop it, guys!" Chelsea yelled as she pulled up shields around both of them. "Let's just sit outside."
The duo then went through the back door, so they could enjoy the cool fall weather.
"You know what you are, Hugo?" Chelsea said as the door behind them shut. "You are an emo, macho asshole!"
"Why do you always side with her?" Hugo asked. "You know how cold she is better than anyone. I am so sick of it. She needs to just…"
"Just what? Mourn exactly like you do?"
"It would tell me that she cares. She has been like that her whole life, unfeeling and cold."
"Hugo, you moron, she does care. She just doesn't show it in the same way you do."
"How does she show it then? By acting like nothing happened?"
"No, by praying by herself. Albina prayed for her mother on top of the roof this morning. I know. She told me. She was close to her mother, Hugo. Albina still feels the pain."
"Then, why does she have to act like she doesn't care?"
"That's just how Albina is. You know that."
"Well, it isn't right…"
"That's just how she was raised. Anastasia always put on a brave face in front of others so Albina does the same thing."
"I wish she didn't. If she didn't, I wouldn't feel so alone."
Hugo sit down on the ground against the wall and said nothing. As the party continued outside, Chelsea sat down and did the same thing.
Meanwhile, back in the sitting area, Sylvie approached Kayla.
"Here's your phone, Kayla," Sylvie said handing her the smart phone that was formerly broken.
"Yay!" Kayla said squealing in joy. "Thank you!"
"Please do not take it into the shower with you again."
"Noted. By the way, your boyfriend is an asshole."
"What did he do this time?"
About a minute later, Sylvie stormed through the kitchen and went out back to where Hugo was.
"Hugo, pourquoi?! (Hugo, why?!)" Sylvie said while Hugo stood up.
"Comment? (What?)" Hugo replied.
"Tu sais. Tu es mechant! (You know. You are wicked.)"
"Elle etait trop froide. J'en ai deteste… (She was so cold. I hated it)."
"Tu te dois excuser maintenant. Je vais trouver Albina. (You must apologize now. I'm going to find Albina)."
"Pourquoi, Sylvie? (Why, Sylvie?)"
"If you don't, you're going to be a lonely man."
Sylvie turned around and went back inside.
Hugo walked over to the dumpster and kicked it with his foot as he turned to stare at the night sky. Chelsea decided to sit on it instead. She created a disc under herself and sat on top of it. Hugo turned on his flames and flew up to join her. They looked up in the sky for a few minutes in silence without saying anything.
Chelsea next stood up, put a disc under herself, and started flying into the night sky.
"Where are you going?" Hugo asked.
"I'm moving away from the tension," Chelsea said. "Come with me."
Hugo turned on his flames and flew behind her. The skies were clear, perfect for the photography that Chelsea was planning to do later. They flew up a distance and looked down upon the hotel and the party that was going on outside.
Chelsea had no idea what to say or do and whenever she needed to think she would flee to the sky, so this time, she brought Hugo with her hoping God would work something out like he normally did.
"It's lovely," Chelsea said looking down at the lights from the party. "Isn't it? My parents say that the whole world used to look like this. I just hope the lights aren't too bright. We can't have Combines finding us."
"It's not fair," Hugo said.
"What?"
"Look at all of them. They're able to go on and celebrate as if nothing ever happened to them. They're so happy while I'm not."
"Are you saying you're jealous?"
"Yes. How could I not be jealous, Chelsea? My father is gone, on the other side, while I'm still here and no matter how I try to move on, I still can't and because of it, everyone thinks I'm an asshole."
"People don't think you're an asshole because you can't move on. People think you're an asshole because you're cold to everyone who's not me, my parents, or Sylvie. You are alone and brooding like Batman and push people out. You're going to be alone forever if you keep acting like that."
Chelsea then had a revelation.
"Is that why you're mean to Albina?" Chelsea asked. "Are you mean to her because you're jealous of her?"
Hugo was silent for a moment and Chelsea could guess at his meaning.
"So, you are jealous?" Chelsea asked.
"Maybe a little…" Hugo admitted.
"Really?"
"Maybe a lot. Alright, fine. I'm jealous. I've always been. Ever since she was little, she has walked around like a proper lady. She is always so composed and so held together. She shows no emotion and only likes to make jabs at people who are not as held together as she is. It's like she feels nothing, like all of them."
"Hugo, they all feel something. All of us are upset about the Combine invasion and all the people we've lost."
Hugo flew down to the ground and sat back on the dumpster. Chelsea followed him and sat next to him again. He was silent for a while. During that time, Chelsea looked up at the night sky and enjoyed the sight of all the stars.
"There's nothing wrong with enjoying your life, Hugo," Chelsea said. "I know bad things have happened, but you have to find a way to carry on and be happy."
"She's right you know," they heard Chell's voice from beside them say.
"Chell," Hugo said as he turned around and looked down at her wearing a red dress with a black dress jacket and high heels while holding a glass of wine.
"Mama, how did you know…?" Chelsea asked.
"Albina told me," Chell replied. "Now Hugo, why did you have to go and be mean to your sister?"
Hugo hopped off the dumpster and said, "Chell, you don't understand…"
"Yes, I do," Chell said. "I've lost more than everyone here combined, but I still don't spend my life hating other people for having happiness that I don't. That's not what God wants and that's not what you should want either."
Hugo silently stared at the ground and started tearing up a little.
"Albina has found a way to move on and be happy," Chell said. "You should never forget, but you need to do the same thing."
Hugo looked up at her and said, "Okay, I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize to me," Chell said. "Go inside and apologize to your sister."
Hugo walked past her and into the building without saying another word.
"Chelsea, honey, are you really on top of the dumpster without shoes or a jacket in this cool weather?" Chell asked.
"Maybe," Chelsea replied with a smile.
"Get down from there and come inside."
"Alright."
Chelsea stood up, created a disc under her feet, and flew down to where her mother was. Chell opened the door and she and her daughter went inside.
"Why does everyone listen to you and not me?" Chelsea asked. "I'm so sick of it."
"It's because I'm old, Chelsea," Chell said. "When you're old, everyone thinks you know what you're talking about, so they listen."
"Mama, you're not old," Chelsea said. "You know where Albina is?"
"I'll take you to her, but first, you need to calm down."
Chell handed her the glass of wine. Chelsea sipped from it while Chell picked up a red-beaded necklace from the pocket of her jacket.
"Mama, that's beautiful," Chelsea said. "Did you make that?"
"Yes, I did," Chell said.
"Why is it in your pocket? You should put it on. It matches your dress."
"It's not for me," Chell said putting the necklace around Chelsea's neck. "It's for you. I meant to give it to you before the wedding, but I forgot about it. Sorry."
"It's fine," Chelsea said admiring it. "I love it."
"I knew you would. Red looks fantastic on you."
"It's also my favorite color."
"Glad you like it. Now, let's go find Albina."
The two of them walked by Brandon and out of the kitchen. Zaki greeted them in the next room clearly in high spirits.
"Hi, babe," Zaki said wrapping his arms around his wife from behind. "I've been looking for you. Where have you been?"
"I've been helping our adopted kids. You should know that, Mr. Telepathy," Chell said playfully. "We're going to find Albina now."
"I'm sorry," Zaki said moving his hands up to her breasts. "I've been enjoying the wedding and hanging out with Roscoe. It's brought back memories and put me in the mood to do something special."
Chell smiled back at him. Chelsea looked around to make sure Kayla wasn't looking. Thankfully, she was engrossed in her game with her headphones in.
"What did you have in mind, handsome?" Chell asked.
Zaki placed her hand on his head so she could see into his thoughts.
"Oh, my God," Chell said taking her hand off his head.
"Chell, I…" Zaki started to say shyly before his wife started caressing his face again.
"Zaki, you know damn well that that wasn't a no."
"Yes! But let's help Albina first."
Zaki smiled and started to kiss her neck.
"You guys know I'm standing right here, right?" Chelsea asked in annoyed disgust. "Can't you do this in private?"
"Your mom is so hot I can't resist," Zaki said as he rested his head on her shoulder.
"Why are you like this?"
"If we weren't like this, you wouldn't exist."
"Lord have mercy."
"That's enough, guys," Chell said pushing her husband off her. "Let's find Albina."
"Thank God!" Chelsea said as they left the room stepping over a few dogs on the way.
"Do you later," Zaki whispered loudly.
"Stop it!" Chelsea yelled.
Pastor Roberts walked past them and entered the room to see Kayla.
"We're dealing with it now," Zaki said as the trio made their way past Pastor Roberts and headed over to where Albina was.
"Excellent work, you guys," Pastor Roberts said.
"Send a quick prayer for us," Chell said as they exited the room.
"Kayla," Pastor Roberts said pulling her headphones off her ears. "Come to bed."
"Come on, grandpa," Kayla said. "It's not like we have to wake up early."
"You have to go to school."
Kayla gave a heavy sigh.
"The next generation needs to be educated so that the old world's knowledge can be passed on, dear," Pastor Roberts said. "Come on. You need to get up earlier than usual."
"Why?" Kayla asked as she hovered herself and her belongings off her chair. "It's bad enough I have to wake up for normal school hours, grandpa."
"Did you forget? The geese will be migrating, and you know what that means?"
"Oooh!" Kayla squealed in excitement. "Yes! You mean we'll get to go hunting?"
"Exactly," Pastor Roberts said with a smile as she flew next to him while the two of them walked out of the room.
"Hot damn! I'm so excited. I can't wait to snap necks again."
"Language. Now remember, Kayla. We must leave some of them alive for preserving the species. Don't go overboard like you did last time."
"Grandpa, 15 of them were left alive…"
"After you killed 20."
"You killed ten."
"Not from the same flock. The point is you need to remember to space out the killings. Alright?"
"Okay," Kayla said. "I understand, grandpa. I won't go overboard."
Zaki, Chell, and Chelsea found Albina and watched the conversation that she had with her step-brother. They made up that night and resolved to treat each other better from then on.
Later that night, Chelsea was sitting on the roof of their hotel complex setting up her camera to photograph the stars. She had changed out of her nicer clothes and put on her black tank top and pink plaid pajama pants with a green and brown plaid coat keeping her warm. She was determined that that night was the night she would get it right and be able to take the clear pictures of the night sky like the photographers in the National Geographic magazines took.
"Chelsea?" she heard her mother call out just as she finished setting up her equipment.
"Yes," Chelsea responded looking over the building's edge to see Chell looking out the window.
"Your father informs me that it is cold outside and you need to wear shoes," Chell said. "Come down and get them."
"Mama," Chelsea complained as she created a disc under herself and flew down to where the window was. "I'm not a baby."
"You know how your father is," Chell said handing her daughter shoes and socks. "He still sees you as his little girl. I do, too."
"You, guys" Chelsea said as she grabbed the shoes and gave her Mom a kiss on the cheek. "You two are too much."
Chell wrapped her arms around her daughter and did the same thing.
"Don't stay up too late," Chell said. "Alright? You have to make a supply run tomorrow."
"Got it, Mama," Chelsea said while Chell let go. "Goodnight. I'm going to see if tonight's the night I finally capture the stars."
"Good luck, baby. Goodnight! I love you."
"I love you, too, Mama."
"Chell, come back to me, my love," Zaki yelled from their bed. "I'm aching for company if you know what I mean."
"Are you done showering?" Chell turned around and asked in amusement.
"I'm as clean as you are, love."
"Sweet! Then, let's get this party started."
"Don't be too loud," Chelsea said in amused disgust.
"Sweetheart, we are married," Zaki said. "The two of us can be as loud as we please. With any luck, we might finally make you a younger, biological sibling."
"Gross!" Chelsea said back.
"I love you, baby!"
"Love you, too!"
With that, the couple went to bed while Chelsea returned to her post. She set up her camera on her tripod. She set the exposure to as far as she could make it go and sat and waited. For about twenty minutes, she sat and watched the stars in peace and total quiet.
"Care for some company?" Chelsea finally heard a voice ask breaking the silence.
Chelsea turned around to see Albina flying in the air above the roof.
Chelsea smiled and said, "Yeah, sure."
Albina lowered herself until she was standing on the roof alongside her friend.
"Did Hugo apologize to you?" Chelsea asked while putting on her shoes.
"After much persuasion from Chell, yes," Albina said.
"He shouldn't treat you that way. I wish I knew how to make him stop."
"You can't burden yourself with that, Chelsea. He is the way he is, and the only one who can change him is God. That is the way it is."
"That's a bit cynical. Isn't it?"
"No, it's accepting reality. It's bittersweet, but eventually, a time comes when you realize that people have free wills and you can't change them. You may dream of better relationships and mourn for what you could have had, but at the end, that doesn't change anything. You have to learn to accept things as they are."
"That doesn't mean you should give up hope. That sounds an awful lot like giving up hope to me."
"No, it's loving people as they are and not as you wish they would be."
Chelsea went silent as she finished setting up her equipment.
"There," Chelsea said. "Done."
"Now, we let the exposure happen," Albina said.
The two ladies laid down on the roof and looked at the stars in the sky. They did not speak. They didn't need to. They both enjoyed the silence and the beauty of the night sky with its millions of stars. Chelsea looked for constellations and named whichever one she found while Albina was quiet except for an occasional comment.
Finally, after about 20 minutes, Albina said, "Has what I said bothered you?"
"A little bit," Chelsea replied honestly. "It sounds much like a dive into cynicism and hopelessness to me."
"When you're older, you'll understand."
"I'm already older than you."
"Then, you must make up for lost time. Yeah?"
Chelsea chuckled to herself. Albina sat up and hovered in the air to enjoy the cold night air. Chelsea stood up and shivered.
"We might get snow within the next month," Chelsea said. "That should make you happy."
"It does," Albina said. "It's been too long since I've been able to go outside without clothes to cover my skin. I have missed it terribly. You're lucky you never get sunburns."
"Yeah, I've never had one in my life. It's probably just another mutation."
"Yes, I think I've felt one of mine today, too."
"What are you talking about?"
"It happened again when I was meditating today."
"Oh."
Albina would sometimes receive visions when she was spending time alone with God. It was a rare ability that Chelsea and the others had never experienced.
"What was in your vision this time?" Chelsea asked.
"It wasn't completely clear," Albina said. "You were trapped somewhere horrible facing down a monster with one large yellow eye."
"That sounds like something out of Star Wars."
"I know. It sounds ridiculous and it may just be a metaphor or something, but even so, I need you to be careful."
"I will. You know I can take care of myself."
"You tried fighting back in the vision, but you were overpowered…"
"Was I killed?"
"No, you got back up and kept fighting every single time you were knocked down."
"Who won the fight?"
"That, I did not see," Albina said standing up and hovering in the air again. "But if I had to place a bet, I would have placed it on you."
"Where are you going?" Chelsea asked from her spot on the ground.
"I'm tired. I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning, my friend. Be careful when you look for supplies tomorrow."
"Aren't I always?"
Albina smiled, turned around, and flew off the building to the ground below. Chelsea laid back and kept watching the stars. She thought about Albina's vision and what it could have meant. Usually, her visions weren't so…scary.
Chelsea didn't have long to think, though. Suddenly, the sounds of her mother's screams woke her up from her thoughts. Chelsea jumped to her feet, created a disc under her, and flew to her parents' window to see what had happened.
