Secret

When Raven finally agreed to be in a relationship with Beast Boy, it was on one condition: it was to remain a secret until she was ready to make it public. He was so excited that she had finally given in that he agreed without a second thought.

It immediately became clear that Beast Boy was awful at keeping secrets.

He'd request every patrol with his new secret girlfriend, and hardly left her side. He tried to convince Raven that it was hardly a change from his usual doings. Because she cared for him and didn't really mind, she gave him the benefit of the doubt.

Beast Boy slipped up a few times, calling her pet names in front of the other Titans. This wasn't completely unusual. However, Raven calling him 'Gar' was. It only slipped out once or twice, but when it did, it really did.

For instance, before the movie started on one of the Team's Friday night movie nights, Beast Boy decided it was necessary to start tickling Raven. The other Titans prepared for the changeling's subsequent death, but instead sat back in shock while Raven let him do it. She was even laughing, playfully trying to avoid his fingers. "Gar!" she gasped. "Gar, stop!"

Robin had to pick his jaw off of the floor. Cyborg looked like he was close to vomiting. And Starfire just looked absolutely confused. This event sparked general suspicion; that was for sure.

During a fight with the HIVE Five (minus Jinx), Mammoth hit Beast Boy pretty hard, sending him crashing into the side of a building. Raven saw it out of the corner of her eye and flew over to the injured teenager faster than anyone had seen her do so. She knelt beside him and pulled him gently onto her lap, moving his hair out of his face with a soft hand. It was such a strange sight that the fighting lurched to a halt. Everyone turned to watch.

"What in the…" Gizmo trailed off. He still had a mechanical hand around Cyborg's arm. Cy's arm cannon was at full power, but he hadn't shot. He just watched, wide-eyed, as Raven stroked Beast Boy's face, murmuring something to him while she healed him.

Robin looked utterly embarrassed, but kept Billy Numerous in a headlock. Three more Billys just stood in place, watching Raven and Beast Boy and mumbling to each other.

Raven wasn't the only one guilty of this, though. On a separate occasion, this time fighting with Adonis, Beast Boy lost his cool when the suited man hit on Raven for the umpteenth time. This was nothing new. However, the Team was somewhat shocked when Beast Boy turned into a Sasquatch, grabbed Adonis around his waist, and threw him through a wall. It effectively broke the suit open, ending the fight.

Beast Boy lunged at Adonis again, and had to be held back by Cyborg and Starfire. Robin yelled at him, "Enough, Beast Boy! You defeated him! Calm down!"

The green Sasquatch growled loudly before switching back into an angry teenager. He shook off his teammates and stalked over to Raven, whose eyes were round with shock. Beast Boy stood in front of her, taking a protective stance.

"No one talks about Raven like that," he mumbled.

After this event, Robin took Raven and Beast Boy aside and sat them down. "We need to discuss your relationship," he said, "and how it's going to affect how you work as a team."

"What relationship?" Beast Boy said, perhaps a little too quickly. He gave an uncomfortable laugh and shot a glance at Raven.

The sorceress remained stoic, but she didn't meet her leader's gaze. "There is nothing between Beast Boy and I besides comradeship, Robin."

"Yeah! We're just friends! It's not like we're in a secret relationship or anything! Ha!" Beast Boy's mouth seemed to be running on its own. Raven put her face into her hands.

Robin let it slide, but Raven and Beast Boy were kidding themselves if they thought the relationship was still secret. They denied it at every chance, even making jokes about the magazine articles titled "SECRET RELATIONSHIP: BEAST BOY AND RAVEN ARE FOOLING NO ONE". The general consensus in the Tower became acceptance, even if Beast Boy and Raven tried to make it clear that they were not in a relationship. And the most ridiculous part of it was that the couple in question really did believe that they were pulling it off.

One day, Cyborg walked into the gym. He had thought no one was there, considering the lights were off. But when he switched them on, he was greeted with an odd, but not particularly surprising sight: Beast Boy and Raven in their underwear, locked in a very compromising position. Cyborg blinked slowly, taking in their scarlet faces, the clothes strewn around the floor, and the mat they were laying on. He sighed.

"I hope y'all know that these doors lock," he said. "Condoms are in the bathroom, second drawer to the left with the feminine stuff. Have fun." He turned off the light and closed the door, leaving the two to sit in the blackness, utter shock painting their faces.

It was safe to say that no one was surprised when Beast Boy and Raven came out as a couple the next day.
