Whispers in the Dark
-Chapter 5: Doubts-
Amelia bolted up from her sleep, her eyes looking around her in panic. She found herself lying in the middle of the floor in a office-like room. Papers scattered around her, and chairs knock over one and another. It didn't help that the lighting in the room was dim, giving this place a creepy vibe to the young patient. Nevertheless, she breathe a sigh of relief, and was glad to be alive. Moments ago, she thought she was goner after that earthquake in the hospital, but here she is in the flesh and unharm.
'Did Ruvik do this?' She ponder at the thought, but there was no way for him to do that. She was somehow teleported away from him, before he could take her and Leslie. The thought of her albino friend cause her to look around her surroundings once more to find herself indeed alone. She prays that her friend is alright, and unharm.
Amelia gets up on her feet, and begin exploring her new area to find her friend. She knows he can't last long this place, or whatever that is going on. It seem too surreal to her. Monsters roaming around, Ruvik back with god-like powers, and then the constant surrounding changes. It's almost like a movie, but this is real.
'I can't sit here and question how this happening. I have to find Leslie, before he does...'
She brush those thoughts away, before image of him appear in her mind. She continue to focus on finding her lost friend, but also reminding herself that she has to be careful due to what's going on. God knows what's in this place. Hopefully she is in fact alone. Otherwise, she don't know what she will do if she sees a monster, and has no choice, but to attack it. The hospital didn't treat her to be fighter, nor deal with this type of situation.
The young patient noticed her surrounding to be indeed a office building, one of those business types. She never has been in one before. There is certainly not enough time to sight see. Her eyes squinted to some of the dark areas to see what lies in them, but nothing from what she can see. It cause the young girl to silently curse under her breath at her situation. Here she is all by herself, no weapons, and not even a flashlight. For all she knows, they could be easily hiding in the shadows, waiting to attack her.
"I need something to see in the dark..." She begin looking around in the room, hoping there is something in here that can use as a small lighting of some sort for her. Luckily, she does come across one. A small black flashlight, almost the size of her palm, lying on top of one of the desks.A small smile spread out across her face as she quickly head over towards the desk to grab the item. "This will do."
She admire the item in her hand, and turned on to see it was in good condition. Pray that the batteries are full, because she don't have time to scavenge for batteries, nor which ones that are the right size for it. She aim the flashlight down, only to have herself nearly scream and jump back in fright at the sight. There was a man laying near the desk in the dark. Half of his stomach is missing, while blood surround him like a poor. Her blue-grey eyes stare into his lifeless ones that were staring up at the ceiling. She cover her mouth, and turned away to stop herself from gagging. It was the doing one of those humanoid creatures. It has to be.
Her body began to tremble in fear. It's been years since she seen a dead body. Never thought she would ever see one again. As mess up her childhood is, she would have thought she would be use to something like this. It made her think of him. Oh, how she misses him everyday. If only he was here, maybe then she wouldn't be in this situation, nor the unstable person she is as she is now.
"Brother..." She close her eyes, and shook her head to push those horrid images of that night years ago. She takes a deep breath to calm herself down, and avoided looking at the dead body. She can't act scared now. Leslie could be in danger from whatever did this.
The thought cause the fear to subside, and bring determination of finding him. She felt the protective urge come over her, and finally was able to move from her spot. She walks over towards one of the doors in the room, and peeks out to see a hallway. No signs of anything in sight. She head out, and walk down the hallway to search for her friend.
He could be in this building for all she knows. She don't even know where to start looking, let alone where to find him. It didn't help she was alone this. If only there was someone here that could help her.
"Someone other than those things... and him..." She said to herself, trying her best not think of the person she once admired.
She snap out of her thoughts when she heard a loud gasp. She quickly ran down where the source came from only to find it behind a large window on the floor she is on. Below there was two male figures running down below. Both of them had a gun in their hand, by the way they were dress professional, she could tell they were cops of some sort, since they didn't look affected by what's going on.
How ironic, police are her least favorite people, and she stumbles upon them on a dire time of need. Just her luck too. She has no choice, but to seek them out. Maybe they know where Leslie is. 'After that, I will leave once I find Leslie. I don't trust them...' She thought bitterly to even think of herself working with the people who swore to protect all, but the ones she seen throughout her eyes prove that statement false.
A large chill went down her spine, causing her body to tremble at the feel of it. A uneasy knot appear in the pit of her stomach as that awful feeling appear again. She felt it coming in waves, almost getting stronger by the second. She could feel it getting closer and closer to her. Not wasting another second at whatever is coming for her; Amelia made a dash down the hallway on the right side of her. She didn't care where she was heading, but sure enough it is far away from that. It was like every nerve in her body was crying out to her get away. Get away from here. It's coming.
Her eyes widen in shock to find herself at a dead end. She comes to stop in front of the wall that is blocking her escape. "No... No." Her eyes frantically searching around to find any other exit, but to not avail. She pound her hands on the wall in frustration, not realizing there was someone behind her.
"So you manage to be able to sense me. I figure as much." She jump by the sound of his voice. She turned around to face Ruvik. Backing up against the wall to get further away from him. He stare down at her amusement, while she stare up at him with fear, knowing what he is fully capable of. "I am not surprise that you have some influence in this world, but not enough as that boy."
What was he talking about?
"Leslie... what did you do to him?" She managed to say.
"The boy is fine, as he should be."
She stare at him in bewilderment, not understanding what he meant by that. Did he wanted to make sure Leslie is safe. If so, why? "I don't understand..."
A smirk appear on his face, amused by her lack of knowledge. "Perhaps, it is better for it to stay that way." He took a few steps forward, causing her to press her back more into the wall. He press his hand on the wall to prevent her from escaping. He lean down to give her a menacing look. "Running away is pointless. You can never escape from me."
Why did he want her this badly? She doesn't understand what's going on, nor what happened to the man she once knew. It made her heart ache at the thought of it. Almost in a way like betrayal.
"Why are you doing this... What do you want with me?" Amelia says softly, her eyes dropping to the floor to avoid his intense gaze.
"Innocence is truly is a bliss. It's better for you to remain that way." Ruvik pulled away from her, causing the young girl to almost breathe sigh of relief from lack of closeness between them. He turned his head towards the window on the side towards the two male figures below. Amelia look towards that direction as well. "If you seek them out; you will be in danger. Perhaps killed if they discover the truth."
"Truth? I don't know understand."
He ignored her, and continue on. "That boy and you will be safe as long as you stay far away from them, and anyone you come in contact with." He said as he turned around, and begin walking down the hallway, leaving her confused.
She reach out to him, wanting to know more by what he meant. "W-Wait!" Ruvik stop, and turned around to look at her. "I don't understand. What's going on? Why can't I go to them?"
His smirk widen slightly. "You and I both know how well it is easily is to be betrayed. If it's comforts you, know this, I bring no harm to you and Leslie." With he disappeared, leaving her confused by what he just said. Most of all, small hope of seeing the person she once saw in him again.
A/N: Thanks for the reviews, favs, and alerts:) As you can see this was inspired by the DLC, lol. In the next chapter, Amelia will meet Kidman. After I played the DLC, I wanted her to be more in this story, so expect to see more of that female dynamic female duos lol
As you can see, Ruvik is trying to manipulate Amelia, believing to trust him, and not the others. Of course she has her doubts, but it is slowly working. Hopefully, I didn't make Ruvik OOC either. I apologies if I have.
Reviews, favorites, alerts are much appreciated! It all supports the story!
