Author's Notes:

Ok guys, this is officially it – the very last chapter of Inside Haven. Thank you SO much for joining me on this wild ride, and for constantly giving me great ideas to work with. This literally started as a little challenge between my beta and I to see what we could come up with – we never could have guessed how big it would become. And it never would have without your support. So, thank you, thank you, thank you.

And of course, big thanks to my beta. You make everything better.

Also, side note – if you're also following Haven Aftermath, I'll get the post-ep for last week's episode up at some point soon. I just got back from vacation, so big time apologies on the lack of update this weekend.

This is all A/U, but I'm going to have this take place the night when Nathan gets back from 1983.

Prompt: I'd love to hear your take on Nathan and Audrey taking about James. And possibly what happened between Nathan and Sarah? (Courtesy of Guest)

Summary: What do Nathan and Audrey think about James and Sarah?

Late Night Discussions

"Did you talk to him?"

"You know the answer to that."

She did know the answer to that, but still, she wanted to ask. For a fraction of a second in their crazy lives, she finally felt safe, warm, and comfortable as she lay pressed up against Nathan's body under the heavy covers of his bed. His one arm wrapped around her, as the other played with her hair. Even after all this time together, he still never took for granted being able to feel her, so took the opportunity whenever he could to feel the different textures of her body. And because of that comfort level, she felt safe in asking him about their son, and what he had just seen. She knew he hadn't spoken to James – if he had, James would have remembered him when they encountered each other.

Truth be told, she was a little jealous of him. He was there for their son's conception, and was there for his death. She was…also there, but…not really.

"Did he look ok to you? I mean, before…"

"He looked fine, Parker. He looked just like he did when we found him. Same clothes, and everything."

"Same clothes?"

"Lucy must have put him in the Barn soon after I left."

She nodded. That made sense. "I wish we could have spent more time with him."

"Me too."

"What do you think he was like?" She waited as he continued to run his fingers through her hair. She knew he was trying to put his thoughts into words.

"I have a feeling he was a lot like Sarah."

That made her pause. She wasn't sure how to react to that, but when he didn't elaborate, she had to prod him. "How so?"

She could feel him shrug.

"There's just something about her. And I feel like he had that too."

She shifted her position so her chin rested on his chest, and she could look into his eyes. "You liked Sarah, didn't you." It wasn't exactly a question, more of a statement, because deep down she knew the answer, but still, it was topic they hadn't really discussed. She watched as he trained his eyes down on her, and his lips twitched up into that sideways smirk which he reserved for only her.

"I did. Because she was you."

"You could have had me, you know."

"I tried. You pushed me away."

She dropped her eyes to his chest. She couldn't look him in the eye anymore. "I knew I was going away. I didn't want to hurt you."

The fingers which had been running through her hair now reached under her chin, gently bumping it so she would look up. "Hey, we're together now. That's all that matters."

She smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. It was true, they were together, but they had each missed out on so much. But then, as she started to find herself being lost in Nathan's impossible blue eyes, and could feel his fingers walking their way down her naked back, she shook off her feelings of melancholy. They had missed a lot, and the world outside was not a good one right now, but here, inside his house, inside his bed, they were together, and everything was ok.

That's all, folks!
