Chapter 51: Trust Me

Kagome wanted to keep sleeping, and Inuyasha was bothering her. Why won't he let me sleep? "Go away."

Inuyasha shook her shoulder. Kagome opened her eyes to see the other Inuyasha. The younger one. Not her Inuyasha that knew her so well. He had no subjugation beads on. The battle? Blood was on the floor. She jumped up in shock. She must have fainted after using so much power to unleash Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru? "Is Sesshoumaru okay?"

Inuyasha snorted. "He is the problem. Don't you see him destroying the place? Show off."

Kagome looked up to see Sesshoumaru who was in his true form while a few soldiers attempted to attack him, he was looking too happy to tear apart the few soldiers that did not run could see how Inuyasha would be worried. Kagome flinched as she saw a body drop to the floor. Then she realized that bricks were also falling from the walls. Sesshoumaru was so big that he was also knocking down pieces of the wall.

Kagome waved her arms, "Hey! Sesshoumaru! Stop! We won! Let's get out of here! You are going to break the castle."

Inuyasha eyed her as if she were insane, "What makes you think that that bastard would listen to you?"

"Sesshoumaru!" Kagome yelled. "Hey you! Don't ignore me!"

The giant dog demon turned and glared at her. Kagome shuddered. "Never mind. I'll talk to you later."

She pushed Inuyasha towards the door. "Just go."

Inuyasha looked back. "Hurry up! Whatcha doing!"

Kagome smiled softly. "Goodbye Inuyasha. You can leave without me. I will wait for Sesshoumaru."

Inuyasha pulled her closer to him as pieces of the ceiling started to fall down, "What did you say?"

Kagome stared at the broken stones that had been right where she had been standing. "Oh- nothing. Let's go."

"Idiot."

"Wait? You did hear me." Kagome frowned. She walked faster to keep up with him.

"Of course, I heard you. You are so loud." Inuyasha muttered under his breath.

"I heard that!"

When they reached outside door there was a small group of soldiers walking towards them. They all bowed quickly.

The leader stepped forward. "Lady Kikiyo, I see that you still have possession of the demon. Do you need any assistance to get him to Lord Usui? He is waiting for you by the path towards the eastern garden as we discussed earlier."

Kagome tried to still her heart from racing. She could not get caught. She took a deep breath. "I do not need any assistance. I have him under my control."

"Are you sure?" he asked again.

"Yes." Kagome said quickly.

Please shut up Inuyasha. She begged silently. Luckily, he was not moving, but she knew that he was prepared to fight.

"We will leave first in order to assist the other soldiers against the Beast." The soldier said before running inside is the castle.

As soon as the soldiers were out of sight, Inuyasha picked her up, and ran away from the castle. Kagome was sure that Sesshoumaru would destroy what was left of Lord Usui's castle.

Inuyasha did not stop running for at least a mile. He set her down next to a riverbank.

"Who are you? Why did you help me?" Inuyasha asked under his breath.

Kagome started to answer that they were friends, but then remembered that she could not say that. They were not friends, technically. "You are Sesshoumaru's brother."

Inuyasha snorted, "Half-brother. He doesn't give a shit about me."

Kagome did not answer. She did not want to argue with Inuyasha. He would not understand, of how terrified she was when she heard that Lord Usui was torturing Inuyasha in front of an audience daily. She could still remember the image of when she had found him in the cell and saw his powers were binded. She had been horrified to think what would have happened if she had been unable to release him. She could not just leave. He was more than the guy that she loved, but he was family.

They did not need vows or rings. She could not walk away even if he did not want to be more than friends. She was lucky that she had a friend who would go to the ends of the earth to save her. His future self was probably looking for her by now. How could she ever abandon his past self?

Inuyasha touched her shoulder and his eyes searched hers as if he was trying to measure her. Kagome could not explain, all the words got stuck in her throat. It felt unnatural to keep secrets from your best friend. She threw herself in his arms and held him tightly. He froze in shock."I am so glad that you are safe." Kagome whispered in his ear.

She pulled back from Inuyasha to wave at the approaching Sesshoumaru.

"Miko, I see that you are unharmed." Sesshoumaru said.

"Are we going after Lord Usui?" Kagome asked.

Sesshoumaru raised his eyebrow. "This one will go after that disgraceful human. You need to go home before you cause more trouble."

"I would love to go home but you know that I can't?"

"First, stay here and rest with your mate." Sesshoumaru said.

"Sesshoumaru!" Kagome yelled. How could he tell him? She did not want Inuyasha to remember that. She had erased his memory of the accidental binding that happened during the battle with the witch on the island.

Sesshoumaru glared at her. "The half-breed is an idiot, but even he has a nose. It has faded but it is clear. He will protect you while I check on my people. Do not tell him more than necessary. I will return as soon as I can. Then you will go home."

Sesshoumaru summoned his cloud and left without another word.

Kagome wished the ground would open and bury her. She refused to look up. She could feel Inuyasha as he came closer. She waited for him to ask her. But instead he said, "Let's set up camp."

They found a little clearing further down the river bank. Kagome sat down and yawned. What a long day. Inuyasha brought firewood, and some fish and she started the fire, and cooked the fish. Inuyasha still did not speak. He sat across the clearing and simply watched her. Kagome tried to relax. The fireflies danced in the evening air while fire crackled softly. The air was sweet with the smell of spring flowers.

This was not going how she wanted this rescue to go. She promised herself that she was only going to rescue Inuyasha and let him go. But here she was holding onto him again. This was not her Inuyasha. She stopped walking, she should just wait for Sesshoumaru to finish his colossal temper tantrum. She could not keep changing Inuyasha's past. It was not right. Technically, she was interfering with Sesshoumaru, but it was a impossible to change Sesshoumaru from his destiny. Sesshoumaru were those people that were born with a plan. Inuyasha was always winging it.

"You are not my mate." Inuyasha said.

Kagome froze.

"I did not mark you. I don't even know your name. No offense. I smell the mark, but I am not sure why it is there. So don't worry I am not going to drag you into a cave or something. I am not an animal. But I am curious, how do you know me. I ain't stupid. You did not have to save me."

"Sess-" she protested.

He shook his head. "You don't have to tell me, but don't lie to me. I hate when when people lie."

She sighed, "Do you trust me?"

He nodded. "Do you trust me?"

She nodded,"With my life."

Their eyes met and Kagome made a decision.

"My name is Kagome. I am from the future about 500 years away. I met you, I think 50 years from now and I also met you a few weeks ago. So, I know you but you don't know me. I need to go home. But I got lost. I am assuming that you are looking for me with our friends, but I don't think that you will find me. I never time traveled this far. But when I first came here you were the first person that I saw and I was scared. I was so relieved to see you. I felt safe. In the future, you always protect me. But I realized that we are not supposed to me yet, and then my powers accidentally binded us as mates when we were fighting a witch, I thought it would wear off by now, so I tried to leave and erased your memory, a few weeks ago."

He looked down and she could not tell if he was furious, shocked, or disappointed. "So we are not mates in the future?"

Is that all he got out of it? Kagome blushed, "Inuyasha, you are my best friend. You like someone else. It was an accident. I will try to undo it."

"You are from 500 years in the future?" He frowned skeptically.

Kagome nodded, "You came to my house, plenty of times. You never like it when I am away for too long."

"And I am looking for you now?" he asked. "So why did you save me now."

"You always save me. No matter what." Her voice broke. "I had too. I couldn't leave you there. I am afraid to change the past. But can't do that. I'm sorry Inuyasha. I will leave when Sesshoumaru comes back. He promised to help me."

"You should stay with me," Inuyasha said.

"But-."

Inuyasha leaned back, "If future me is looking for you than shouldn't you stay with me, so I know where you are?"
