Cross My Heart

Summary: Mimi's idol career is losing steam and so she pulls a publicity stunt, pretending to be dating Yamato Ishida, but he is blissfully unaware of the situation. During the tour, reflecting on the past, will they develop a relationship or is it really just all an act? Mimato

Warnings/Pairings: Adult themes/situations (some graphic), fluff, angst / Mimato, with hints of Jyoumato, ex-Sorato, Taishirou, and maybe tiny hints of Sorami and Takari.

A/N: This is a part of my headcanon, and after this chapter it will mostly focus exclusively on Mimi. I just had to get some of Yamato's BS out of the way first. He will show up briefly in a chapter later, I figure.

A/N 2: This took way too long to post. And it's short. But the next chapters are more meaty, dealing with more of Mimi's past, so hopefully that will make up for it. Also, there's a part with Daisuke later that ties into his headcanon, but I haven't posted it yet.

Thanks for sticking with this fic! I'll update again this week, when we see how Mimi made her original pop idol band...

xoxo

"Now I think ofall the times you screwed me over; But had me believeing it was always something that I'd done. But I don't wanna live that way, reading into every word you say. You said that you could let it go."

Somebody that I Used to Know / GOTYE

2009

It took a moment to process what she had said to him. For once, Yamato felt he could have put all his faith in someone- again. With Jyou, with Sora, with multitudes of other people, and now with her... but now there was just that same pain in his chest that he remembered next to the smell of fear and gunpowder.

"Y-You're kidding...?"

"No," Mimi whispered, nodding her head. "I-I'm sorry."

"Answer me one thing, then."

Mimi could hear the hurt in his voice and she was already imagining how he might handle it. "Anything," she whispered once more, trying to ease the pain.

"Why is it that every single time I try and build myself higher that someone is there to fucking destroy all my progress within seconds of seeing the fruit of it? Huh? Why am I so God damn important?!"

Mimi flinched as if he may hit her- she half expected it, but when she looked back up Yamato was already storming out of the hospital room. She could feel her chest grow tight and Yutaka, Takashi, and Akira rushed back in next to her, giving her words of comfort that she didn't deserve.

"I'm not dating you," Yamato mumbled. "That's just a fucking publicity stunt. What bullshit. But wait, it was my manager's idea- I'd rather further my career than consider the fact that you've never had a stable relationship your entire life, Ishida."

Maybe all that wasn't word for word, but it may as well have been as Yamato sunk into the corner of the hospital elevator. He wanted to reach out and press the emergency button, trapping himself in yet another cave forever.

But he had a better idea. He fought the urge to dial Jyou's number, but Yamato figured he was already drowning- he didn't need to have his held head under, too. He decided for a quick death and called Sora instead. As he exited the hospital he dialed again when she didn't pick up.

"What is it, Yamato? Do you know how late it is?"

"Just thought you might wanna know your best friend is in the fucking hospital. It's all my fucking fault, like everything else. Happy?" He barked out the statements quickly and hung up, exchanging the cell for a cigarette and heading for his car, which he had followed the ambulance in. Then, he noticed a familiar face across the lot and it soothed his anger for a split second.

The redhead was still in his uniform, on the way back from a game, it seemed.

Yamato tossed his aching arm in the air, "Eh! Dai! Daisuke!"

The gogglehead turned, "Hey, Yamato!"

The blonde finished his cigarette as he waited for Daisuke to cross the street. The boy looked pretty chipper and for Yamato that was a good distraction. "What's up, mini-Tai?"

Daisuke pouted, "I'll have you know I just made the most epic proposal ever!"

"Is that why you're in such a good mood?" Yamato grinned, "I think you mean you got an epic proposal. So, are you following Taichi to that school, too-?"

"No, really. I proposed. You know. Marraige."

"You're shitting me," Yamato chuckled.

"What's up? Why are you at the hospital?"

"Mimi fainted. She's alright now, though. Actually, Daisuke. I was just heading out for a drink. Won't you come keep me company?"

Daisuke recalled his last experience with this and hesitated, but Yamato grabbed the young man by the shoulders, demanding every detail of this 'mystery girl'. Daisuke was shoved into Yamato's passenger seat and he pulled the seatbelt over him as Yamato started the engine.

"A name, Dai. You must know her name," the blonde insisted, but he wouldn't let Daisuke answer just yet, continuing on. Daisuke couldn't help but feel his friend was nervous as he rambled and tapped the steering wheel. He even considered what the Hell Yamato might be on. "In fact, after we get that drink, I'm gonna give you your wedding gift."

"Eh?!"

"Yeah, matching tattoos. A statement against every fucking bitch everywhere trying to stand in our way."

"Uh, Y-Yamato, I'm-" Daisuke began to protest that he was only seventeen, but that went out the window with the remains of Yamato's second cigarette.

"W-well, I was considering..." Yamato started. Mimi watched with absolute confusion as he ran a hand through his bangs and tapped his foot. "I wanted to tell you I Love You."

Mimi's eyes narrowed immediately and the blonde's face burned- perhaps he had been too abrupt. "Oh, Yamato... I wish you hadn't said that."

"What? Why? I can do this- I don't need to do all that anymor-"

"Just stop, just stop," Mimi said, trying to control her sobs. "Yamato. It's a sham. It's a fucking scheme Evin made to promote my record. My final record."

"...what is?"

"You. Me. This. Yamato, we were never dating for real. Couldn't you see that?"

"Y-You're kidding...?"

Mimi rememebered the entire thing in her mind. Tomorrow ended her pop idol career. She missed the days when things weren't so lonely...
