Chapter 3: Under the Blue Skies

Every time Sakura thought of what Sasuke told her yesterday, she couldn't help it but blush deeply. She was honestly very happy when she heard those words from Sasuke's mouth. It felt as if she was in heaven.

It didn't mean that both of them were chit-chatting and all that but it was just much better between the two of them now.

"I wonder why it felt less awkward being with Sasuke now. Is it because I confessed to him last night? Or because he said he want to make love to me?" Sakura thought with a blush on her face. "Whatever the reason is, I like how it is with Sasuke now."

Sasuke himself had to admit that he prefer this calm and relaxing atmosphere. He didn't have to watch Sakura moving awkwardly and the two of them no longer need to suffer awkward eye contacts.

"I could get used to this." Sasuke thought.

"You two are early. Did the two of you slept well last night?"

Sasuke and Sakura turned to where Kakashi's voice originated from.

Sasuke, who knew that Kakashi was aware of what was going on between him and Sakura, simply gave his ex-sensei a deadly glare.

On the other hand, Sakura's facial expressions changed a little.

"Something tells me that there is a hidden meaning behind what Kakashi just asked. Oh no, don't tell me. Please don't tell me he knows what is going on between me and Sasuke! If that is true, how am I supposed to face Kakashi from now on?! Oh no, this is far too embarrassing for me to handle if it is true. Please don't let it be true."

Sakura's thoughts were in a mess and Sasuke seemed to notice the change in her expressions. He sighed a little and patted Sakura's shoulder lightly.

Sakura was a little surprised at Sasuke's sudden action and turned towards him. Sasuke, as usual, had an emotionless expression on his face as he said, "Just ignore him."

Before Sakura could ask Sasuke regarding whether or not Kakashi knew about them, the other two members of the team were with them already and Kakashi was already explaining about their mission.

"I hope everyone had a good rest last night. Today will be a long day, that's for sure."

Sakura put a serious expression on her face, trying her best to ignore her previous thoughts.

"Now's not the time for those. I need to concentrate on this mission." Sakura thought with determination and focus in her eyes.

"Our goal for today is to defeat the sea monster. What we need now is a plan. I want everyone to chip in their ideas. Let's talk about this over breakfast."

The four of them were discussing a strategy as they have their breakfast in the inn's dining room.

It was a difficult mission because the creature they're up against was really big and they need to have a way to capture this sea monster.

"Let's say we defeated this sea monster already, how are we supposed to capture it and bring it back to Konoha?" Sakura questioned.

"I can handle that part of the mission." Sai spoke. "I know a sealing jutsu that could be of use for this."

Kakashi smiled underneath his mask and stood up, "Great! Now that we have a concrete plan, what's left to be done is to take action and complete the mission."

Kakashi looked at the clock on the wall, which said that it was still 10 AM.

"It's still so early. There are still lots of time before the sea monster will appear. Well, how about we'll meet here at the inn at 6 PM? Everyone can go and take a look around the village to kill some time. Alright, see you guys later." With that said, Kakashi disappeared at the puff of a smoke.

Sai stood up soon afterwards and faced his remaining team members, "I'll just go back to the room then. I'll take my leave now."

Sakura watched Sai walk away and was then back to her thoughts, "What am I supposed to do now? Guess I'll just take a walk around the village. Wonder what Sasuke is planning to do with his free time."

Sakura's thoughts were disturbed by Sasuke.

"Sakura."

Sakura turned to where Sasuke was and answered, "Yes?"

Sakura had always found it rather difficult to read Sasuke's expressions. It had always been so emotionless. However, this time, Sakura noticed that Sasuke looked as if he was having some difficulties with something.

"Is something wrong?" Sakura asked, feeling slightly worried seeing Sasuke that way. "He had always been so calm. It worries me to see him not being is usual calm self." Sakura thought as she looked at Sasuke.

"No, nothing's wrong." Sasuke answered. He sighed a little before continuing. "Just wondering if you would want to go take a walk around the village."

Sakura's face lit up at an instance and excitement was evident on her expressions. She tried to suppress her overwhelming happiness as she answered Sasuke's invitation, "Of course!"

Sasuke, who rarely smiled, smiled a little seeing how Sakura looked so excited and happy.

He slowly stood up and started walking to the inn's front door, "Let's go then."

Sakura happily followed Sasuke and felt like she just couldn't get any happier than she already was.

The village was even more crowded that day compared to the day before. Women were shopping for clothes, children were running around and there were even shop owners happily chatting with their customers.

"Wow, I didn't expect this many people." Sakura expressed her thoughts as she walked beside Sasuke.

The two of them were just walking around the town when Sakura stopped by a store. It seemed like something caught her eyes.

Sakura slowly walked towards the shop's window, her hands touching the glass slowly.

"It's so beautiful." Sakura spoke to herself.

Sasuke was curious as to what Sakura was looking at and went to stand beside her. He realized that Sakura was looking at a necklace.

It was white in colour with a pendant that was shaped like a cheery blossom leaf. The pendant was also white in colour and was decorated with diamonds. The diamonds were sparkling elegantly and it sure stood out a lot.

"You're going to buy it?" Sasuke asked casually as he looked at how Sakura seemed to have fallen in love with the necklace.

Upon hearing Sasuke's question, Sakura was brought back to Earth from her daydreaming and quickly glanced towards Sasuke.

"Wha-What? Of course not! This necklace is really beautiful but I'm sure it costs a bomb. I'm not even sure if I can afford it." Sakura said and sighed. Yeah, sure, Sakura did completed many missions and compared to most ninja in Konoha, Sakura had received a higher pay for her amazing skills. However, Sakura didn't have the habit of spending many money on stuffs like clothing, jewelry and other things she regard as non-essential items. This was one of the major differences between Sakura and her best friend, Ino Yamanaka.

"Let's go look at other places." Sakura said to Sasuke with a smile. She began walking ahead of him so she didn't realize that Sasuke spent some extra moments looking at the necklace she was admiring earlier.

Sasuke and Sakura spent another hour looking around the town. There were many shops and stalls around and Sakura felt happy just window-shopping. It was around 12 PM when Sakura suggested the two of them leave the crowded town area and go find somewhere else where it was quieter.

The noises from the town area were beginning to die down as Sasuke and Sakura walked towards an isolated lake. There were nobody around and the only sound around them was the sound of the nature. Sakura ran towards the small lake and looked at the clear water.

"The water in this lake is so clear and beautiful!" She then placed a finger into the lake and quickly removed it. "The water is rather cold though."

Sakura then walked away from the lake and sat down on the soft green grass. She lay down comfortably on the ground and looked at the skies.

"The sky is so blue and calm. What a beautiful day." Sakura spoke as she admired the vast blue skies.

Just then, a shining object blocked her view of the skies. The soft sunlight made the object sparkle even more beautifully.

"T-This is…" Sakura was unable to put her thoughts into words.

"I saw how you liked this necklace so much so I went back and bought it for you." Sasuke spoke.

In front of her eyes was the very cherry blossom leaf necklace she was admiring awhile ago! It was beautiful and its beauty blended in so well with the blue skies.

Sakura quickly sat up and turned to Sasuke, "I-I can't accept such an expensive present!"

Sasuke looked away and he handed the necklace to Sakura, "It's fine. Just accept it."

"But…!"

Sakura was about to say something when Sasuke stood up and walked behind her. He sat down and slowly put the necklace around Sakura's neck.

"Quit talking and just accept it already."

Instead of feeling awkward and guilty at how pushy Sasuke was, Sakura felt really happy and touched.

When Sasuke was done putting the necklace on her, Sakura took the pendant into her hands and looked at it.

"It's so beautiful." Sakura couldn't stop admiring the necklace's beauty.

She quickly stood up and turned to face Sasuke, who was still sitting on the grass.

"Thank you so much, Sasuke! I really like this necklace! I'll treasure it!" Sakura immediately regretted saying the last few words. "Oh no… That is such an embarrassing thing to say!"

Sakura's face went slightly red as she waited for Sasuke's reply.

Sasuke looked slightly embarrassed as well and looked away, avoiding direct eye contact with Sakura. He then said, "It's no big deal. You look good in it."

Sakura felt like her heart was melting when she heard Sasuke said that. Still feeling embarrassed, Sakura slowly sat down beside Sasuke and brought up some courage to talk without stuttering, "Thank you, Sasuke."

Sasuke never felt so embarrassed in his whole entire life. It wasn't the kind of embarrassment when you fell on your face or when you said something stupid. It's the feeling you get when you just made someone really happy and you just don't know what to say.

Sasuke stole some glances of Sakura and was really happy to see that she was loving the present he gave her. She had been staring at the necklace's unique pendant for what seemed like forever.

"You really do like it, don't you?" Sasuke asked with a small smile on his face.

Sakura turned to him with one of her brightest smiles ever, "Yes, I do!"

"I'm glad to hear that." Sasuke said.

Sakura let go of the pendant and moved towards Sasuke. Sasuke, who realized Sakura was moving towards him, turned to where she was.

Sakura, slowly yet surely, was leaning her face towards Sasuke and planted a soft kiss on his lips.

Sasuke must've not expected it because he looked surprised.

The kiss lasted longer than Sakura had expected and she was even questioning her own bravery.

Just a few minutes ago, she wouldn't expect herself to have the courage to do what she had just done.

Sasuke looked at her questioningly and Sakura quickly looked away and answered, "T-That's to thank you for the necklace. I-I didn't know what else I can do so… Please forgive me if it had annoyed you!"

Sasuke smirked a little and said, "It's fine. I wasn't expecting that so I was quite surprised. But please don't misunderstand, I didn't buy you that necklace to expect anything in return."

"I-I know." Sakura answered, still feeling embarrassed about what she had just done.

Sasuke then felt like teasing Sakura even more, "However, if you do want to do something for me in return, I was hoping for something more than just a kiss."

Sakura's face turned redder upon hearing what Sasuke said. She knew what he meant and was unable to hide her embarrassment.

"What should I answer?!"

Knowing that Sakura was having an internal battle with herself, Sasuke just smirked and was enjoying looking at Sakura's every reaction.

"W-We can do it tonight. T-That is if you want to." Sakura hated herself for stuttering.

"Tonight? Why not now?" Sasuke thought that he might as well tease her more.
