A Coffee Shop Crush
by keywieldersky

Almost soaking wet, the girl with the umbrella scurried hurriedly through the door and into the room. Stopping right at the entrance, a certain familiar smell piqued her interest–a soft heartwarming scent of vanilla extract and a pleasant, sweet smell of fresh-ground coffee. Yes, this was definitely her favorite coffee shop.

Further into the room was a small homey fireplace that gave out small flakes of heat–just what she wanted on a rainy Sunday afternoon. She seated herself at the corner table, the seat closest to the fireplace. Ordering a plain mug of coffee, she set down her half-wet umbrella and pulled out a small handkerchief to wipe herself with.

She looked around the shop–it was a small family-owned coffee shop that had been opened for at least thirty years. She used to come here every day after her visit at the public library to read a newly-rented book. Today, she rented a thick paperback novel of her favorite author, Rick Riordan. It was about five hundred pages long, and she figured she would at least finish at least half of it here at the coffee shop.

Meanwhile behind the front desk, a blond-haired boy poured a caramel macchiato into a plastic cup before handing it to an elderly man. He works here every day since he was twelve, and it was a job he couldn't refuse to leave.

In between pouring coffee and taking orders, he had been sneaking looks from a certain bookworm from across the room. Her pale blonde bangs kept on falling in front of her face, and she kept on sweeping it back behind her ears. Her round blue-framed glasses matched the colors of her faded violet eyes, which darted across the surface of the novel she was too absorbed in.

A man in his twenties stood behind him. Fixing his tie, he motioned for the boy to take a break. "Oh, go on, Roxas. You've been taking orders the whole day." The boy, supposedly named Roxas, gave his boss an appreciative nod before taking off his coffee-stained apron and slowly darting across the room.

Roxas sneaked up behind the blonde-haired girl and smiled. Too absorbed in her book, she didn't seem to notice who or what was looming behind her. Laughing, the boy wrapped his fairly muscular arms around the girl. She jumped at the sudden attack and let out a muffled squeak.

"Stop doing that!" She said. Other than drawing perfect sketches on her notepad and sipping hot coffee from a mug, reading was what she liked best. And being interrupted in the middle of a tight situation… let's just say it wasn't going to end well.

"You should've seen your face," he joked. "Oh man, I should've gotten that on camera." He kissed her cheek, and she turned a bright shade of crimson.

"Not in public!" she demanded.

"Oh, come on, Naminé. I've been wanting to do this for years before we started dating. Just lemme do it one more time." He kissed her cheek once more, and she struggled to get away.

"We've only been dating for a week," she said. Her face still bright red, she refocused her attention back to her book.

"But I have to make up for lost time!" Roxas complained after taking a seat across from her. She still proceeded to ignore him. "Oh, alright. You can marry the book now."

Much to his surprise, Naminé slammed her book onto the table and bent up across the table. And when she kissed his lips, he turned even redder than she did. "There, I kissed you. Satisfied?"

"I-I suppose so…"
