"And that's what happened to me, Buchou…" Yuuto Kiba sighed as he concluded his report to Rias Gremory, his King as well as his master (or mistress, if one bothered with technicality) through a small communication magic circle. It took him several tries and three months before he could establish the connection, though.

He was actually surprised that he managed to contact Rias, even though he was certain that he had ended up in an alternate universe where most, if not all the prominent figures from one of the most influential literary works in the world, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, got their genders wrong. And he also learned that while three months had passed for him, it had been three days since he disappeared thanks to the broken mirror. Even Rias was unsure what to think of it.

"Well, that's certainly a unique situation you got yourself into, Yuuto," Rias said, finding the whole situation amusing, even if it was a tad confusing. "So, now you're filling in the role of Ryuubi and becoming the leader of Shoku, then?"

"Yeah, I guess you can say that…" Kiba scratched the back of his head. "Actually, I expected this sort of thing to happen to Issei instead of me. He's a kind of guy who always gets himself into this sort of situation," he said. "Still, I'm sorry I made everyone worry, Buchou. I hope I didn't upset Asia-san when I suddenly disappeared…"

"About that… she actually got herself sick worrying about you," Rias said, sighing. "Thankfully you managed to establish the connection before her condition worsened."

"Yeah… I guess that there's a silver lining even in these shenanigans," Kiba smiled a bit. He remembered about what happened a while ago, when he first succeeded in establishing the connection. Asia was there when it happened, and when she heard his voice, she was so surprised she ended up fainting. Perhaps she was just too overwhelmed by learning the fact that he's alright, so he could hardly blame her for it. "And while I'd love to return, I don't know how to achieve that. There's also the whole thing about being the chief magistrate of Shoku and all that."

"Yes, we'll get into it," Rias nodded. "Currently, the broken shards of the mirror are studied by both Azazel and Ajuka. They will find the reason why you ended up there, but it may take a while, and considering that time seems to pass differently there, it may take years for you to be able to return here." Rias' expression turned apologetic. "Sorry about that, Yuuto."

"So, that means I'm going to continue playing Ryuubi, then? Fantastic," Kiba deadpanned.

"Look at the bright side, Yuuto. You're a Devil. You won't get physically old," Rias told him. "Just consider this a vacation of sorts for you. And everything is still fine here, so don't worry about us while you're playing chief magistrate," she smiled at her Knight.

"So, being the leader of a nation is a vacation now, huh? Well, if you say so, Buchou…" Kiba shrugged. "Well, it's just that…" He hesitated a bit. "I never played the role of a leader before. It was just too sudden when they suddenly appointed me as their leader, and I couldn't find it in me to refuse." He looked down. "I'm not even sure if I can be a decent Ryuubi for them…"

"Oh, Yuuto…" Rias gave Kiba a kind smile, a smile that a mother would give to her child. "If only I could hug you right now. About being a good leader, don't worry about it. Just do what you think is right. I know that you can do it, Yuuto. After all, you have two legendary figures as your advisors. I'm sure they'll help you along the way," she said to her Knight reassuringly.

"…Thanks, Buchou," Kiba said, smiling. After hearing Rias' words, he felt encouraged. "I'll try my best here. Being the Messenger from Heaven will be tough, though, being a Devil and all…"

"You just have to deal with it, then," Rias said simply.

"Haha, don't be too harsh, Buchou. Well, I guess that's it for now. I'll be contacting you later, maybe a few months or so here? It'll be just a few days there, so expect my report in that time," Kiba said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a bit governing to do, and Aisha is a bit strict when it comes to etiquette."

"Aisha?" Rias raised one eyebrow.

"Ah, that's Kan'u. You know that they have true names, right? Chouhi's is Rinrin, by the way," Kiba informed.

"Oh, I see…" Somehow, there was a suspicious smirk on her face. "Well, good luck with your governing, Yuuto. I'll be waiting for your next report."

"Yes. And please send my regards to the others," Kiba said. "And tell Asia-san that I'm sorry I made her worry. And please tell both Issei and Koneko-chan too," Kiba bowed.

"Very well. I'll see you later."

And so, the communication ended. Kiba stared at the empty magic circle. While both Azazel and Ajuka were studying the mirrors, he would have to stay in the ancient China, during the era of the Three Kingdoms. He let out a sigh as he continued staring at the magic circle.

"My Lord…" Then, Kiba heard someone knocking on the door before he heard Kan'u's voice. "May I come in?"

"Ah, sure," Kiba replied, waving his hand over the magic circle to dismiss it. The magic circle was in the process of being dispelled when Kan'u entered his room, and the raven-haired young woman saw the magic circle before it disappeared.

"Hmm? What was that, My Lord?" Kan'u inquired.

"Please don't mind it, Aisha," Kiba said as he looked at the magic circle completely disappearing. "I was just reporting to my, uh, superior back home."

"Superior? Do you mean the ones back at the Heaven?" Kan'u's looked at Kiba in amazement. "Was that some sort of sorcery?"

"Uh, sort of…" He had given up on telling Kan'u that he's really not the Messenger from Heaven. Despite knowing he wasn't the Messenger, she was utterly convinced that he actually was, after seeing what he was capable of. So, despite the squeamishness he experienced whenever people called him a Messenger from Heaven, he had learned to accept it. "Well, what's the matter, Aisha?" He asked.

"Rinrin and the other have returned from scouting," Kan'u's expression turned serious. "They have found the Yellow Turban's main camp. They will be here shortly, so I suggest you to be prepared," she said to Kiba. "For the sake of our new home, we must destroy the Yellow Turban."

"Ah, that…" Kiba's expression turned grim. He's no stranger to death and destruction, and he had killed many people before. But, this time, he would be sending many good men and women to their deaths in order to save their growing nation from the plague that was the Yellow Turban. That was the burden that he had to put on his shoulders as the leader. "Very well. Let us go and hear their report. I hope this will be the last of them…"

"I hope for the same as well, Lord Kiba," Kan'u nodded. "The Turbans had been harassing us ever since you became the chief magistrate. For the sake of this land, we will crush them thoroughly…"

"Yes…" Kiba closed his eyes as he got up on his feet. "Crush them…" He disliked it. He disliked it immensely, especially after becoming the leader of Shoku. Now that he had been given this huge responsibility, he could only hope that he could minimize the casualties.

Well, he could only hope, of course. After all, he would be living his life as a warlord during the era of the Three Kingdoms. Death and destruction would be unavoidable no matter what.

Chapter 04: The Sleeping Dragon

Kiba Yuuto had been appointed as the chief magistrate of Zhuo District, which was located at the Youzhou Province. The area was located at the northeast of the continent. After establishing command, Kiba, together with Kan'u and Chouhi, as well as the people of the city, had been working hard to rebuild the city that had been destroyed by the Yellow Turban.

Still, the Yellow Turbans had not been fully-suppressed, as the remnant of them fled throughout Youzhou and reorganized into a large army. They began invading the Zhuo District once again under the name of revenge after being defeated once.

At the same time, the Imperial Court had appointed a commander named Kousonsan who was tasked to suppress the Yellow Turbans in a different prefecture. Still, Kousonsan's army was low on soldiers, and it would just be a matter of time before they break through. That was why Kiba sent Chouhi and a few able-bodied men as scouts.

After Chouhi and the other scouts returned, they reported that there would be a detached force of the Yellow Turbans coming. From the look of it, the detached force was thought to be planning an attack on the farmers that emigrated from the other prefectures.

"Let's get moving," Kiba said. "We still have enough time to rescue the farmers," the Devil then looked at Kan'u and nodded at her. "Aisha."

"Yes, My Lord!" Kan'u said before she turned to her soldiers and raised her guandao. "All units, double time! We must catch up with the other squad and protect the farmers!"

"All units, follow me!" Chouhi then said to her soldiers, and the soldiers replied with collective roars.

"Fang Squad, move out!" Kiba yelled to his soldiers. Unlike Kan'u and Chouhi, Kiba's squad was smaller and only consisted of less than fifty soldiers. But all of them were personally trained by Kiba himself and were given better weapons and armors. And thanks to his Sword Birth, he managed to produce enchanted swords that were usable for them. While those swords were inferior compared to what he usually used, at the very least the weapons were much better than the shoddily-made makeshift weapons that most soldiers had. Kiba also had been teaching them strategies while facing the enemies. From what Kiba could tell, the trainings had been producing good results. Besides men, Kiba had also taken women into the squad.

Three of them with their squads marched to where the detached force was spotted. Not long after that, they encountered a group of farmers carrying their household belongings. It was clear that they were also escaping from the Yellow Turbans.

"We made it…" Kan'u said in relief. She couldn't forgive herself if she were to arrive late to save these farmers. "My Lord, they will need to be escorted back to Zhuo."

Kiba nodded to her. "Just do what is necessary, Aisha."

"You have my gratitude, Lord Kiba," Kan'u said gratefully before she addressed the soldiers. "Chouhi Squad and Fang Squad, join the other unit and form a front. My squad and I will lead the farmers and retreat for the time being!"

"Come back as soon as possible," Kiba told Kan'u. "We still don't know how many of them there are," he glanced at his own personal squad as well as Chouhi Squad. They would need all the men they needed in order to suppress the Turbans.

"Of course," Kan'u nodded, smiling at Kiba. "Please hang in there with Rinrin for the time being until I come back," she told him.

"Got it," Kiba responded. "Be careful."

"You too, My Lord…" And with that, Kan'u and her squad left, leading the farmers back to a safe place.

"Onii-chan, what should we do now?" Chouhi asked Kiba, resting her big spear over her shoulder. Despite its size, the petite girl was able to lift it without exerting herself.

Kiba was able to see the Yellow Turbans bearing their arms, charging towards them in the distance. From the look of it, the Turbans were still ill-equipped like before, armed with shoddily-prepared weapons, but they still outnumbered both Chouhi Squad and Fang Squad. That was why Kan'u needed to return with her squad as soon as possible to suppress the incoming Yellow Turbans.

"Hmm… we can give them a hail of arrows," Kiba said. "Once they enter the range of our archers, we can- huh?" He noticed something as he looked at the incoming army of Yellow Turbans. Through his enhanced sight as a Devil, he saw some people who were decidedly not a part of the Yellow Turbans.

"Something wrong, Onii-chan?" Chouhi asked before she looked at where Kiba was looking. She tilted her head and squinted her eyes. Then she knew what she saw. "There are some people who got left behind!"

"Yeah, we missed them…" Kiba nodded grimly. "A young girl and an old person…" He glanced at Chouhi.

"Gah, this isn't good! Onii-chan, we have to move in! We must rescue them!" Chouhi said urgently.

"Yeah," Kiba nodded. "Chouhi Squad, Fang Squad, prepare to attack!" He shouted to the soldiers, and the soldiers unsheathed their swords and shouted back. They flew the banners of the squads.

"Move out! Everyone follow Rinrin!" Chouhi shouted, brandishing her heavy spear as she charged, followed by her squad.

"Fang Squad, follow my lead!" Kiba ordered his squad. The members of the squads shouted in turn, brandishing the swords that were given to them by Kiba himself. Kiba summoned two swords, holding one of them in each hand before he charged alongside Chouhi. For them, the objective was clear; save both the young girl and the old person.

"Hawawa, hawawa, hawawa, hawawa…!" A silver-haired young girl clad in black-and-white dress trimmed with gold adjusted her hat as she pulled an old woman along with her so that they could escape the incoming Yellow Turbans. The old woman panted heavily, exhausted by the constant running.

As they ran, the old woman tripped on her feet and fell.

"Hawawa!" Panicking, the young girl rushed to the old woman's side, helping her up. "Come on, just a little more, ma'am! Hang in there!"

"I'm already done for…" The old woman said in designation. "Please save yourself, dear. You don't want to get yourself caught by those bandits and rapists, do you? Just go…" She said weakly. "I'm already old and wrinkly," she smiled despite their situation. "Might as well buy you some time."

The young girl looked like she's about to cry. "Hawawa, n-no… I-I can't…" She sniffled. She had just met her when they evacuated so that they could escape the Yellow Turbans. There's no way she could leave the kind old woman to die in the hands of those bandits. She couldn't imagine what they would do to her.

"If you stay here with me, you'll be killed too," the old woman told her. "Better me than you. Just leave me, dear."

"N-no!" The young girl cried. "I just can't! I went to school so I could protect everyone! I can't just leave you here!" Despite crying, the young girl forced the old woman to follow her.

Hearing the young girl, the old woman smiled. "Thank you… thank you very much…"

Encouraged by the old woman's gratitude, the young girl gave the old woman a tearful smile. "Just a little more, ma'am! You can do it!" She encouraged the old woman as she helped her walk. It seemed that her fall had injured her ankle, but she wouldn't allow that to slow them down, considering that the Yellow Turbans were hot on their heels.

"Hah… by the way, dear…" The old woman spoke to the young girl as they moved.

"Yes? What is it?" The young girl said.

"I know the ones coming from behind us are the Yellow Turbans…" The old woman said. "But who's coming from our front?" She pointed at their front, where they could see soldiers marching forward, flying their banners.

"Hawa?!" The young girl let out a startled squeak when she finally noticed the incoming soldiers. "U-unyu… t-this is…" She trembled in shock and despair. They had nowhere to run. Behind them were the Yellow Turbans while in front of them were the soldiers with dangerous weapons.

Sighing in resignation, the old woman said, "I guess it's time to pay the piper…" Her tone was dry for someone who had accepted her fate. "It was fun living until old age."

"Hawawa, not yet!" Despite the hopelessness of the situation, the young girl said. "Not yet! If you give up now, then we really will be done for!"

"I know…" The old woman said. "Let's just hope the people we see ahead of us are friendly…"

"Auu…" Nervously, the young girl moved closer to the old woman, waiting for the inevitable.

The soldiers got closer and closer before they stopped. Then two people stepped forward and approached them. One of them was a red-haired girl, probably around the same age as the young girl, if not older, clad in orange jacket that somehow exposed her midriff, and she was carrying a spear that was too large for her. Beside her was a blond boy, clad in black jacket and trousers, and in each of his hands was a sword. When they got closer to them, the swords in his hands mysteriously vanished.

"Are you two alright?" The boy asked the young girl and the old woman.

"Huh? Umm… h-hawawa…" She looked at the blond boy who asked them that question. "Y-yes, w-we're alright…"

"You're a little girl, are you hurt?" The girl who came with the boy asked.

"N-no, I'm not…" Then, the young girl realized that the other girl had just called her a little girl. "B-but I'm not a little girl! I'm a grown girl!" She puffed her chest up in order to emphasize what she just said, though it could hardly help her, considering how flat she actually was.

"Rinrin's a grown up too!" The other girl retorted. "Hey, this isn't the time to talk about that! Ahem!" Taking a dramatic pose, she then shouted, "Enhito Chouhi has now arrived!"

"Chouhi?" The young girl blinked. "A-are you-"

"No time for introductions! I'm gonna cream those bad Yellow Turbans! Be back in a bit!" Hefting her spear, she rushed over to the direction of the incoming Yellow Turbans, leaving the young girl and the old woman with the blond boy. Her squad followed after her.

As the girl who called herself Chouhi and her squad marched away to the direction of the incoming the Yellow Turbans, the boy went to the old woman's side and smiled. "Are you alright, ma'am? Can you move?" He asked.

"I guess I still can," the old woman said. "I'm okay now. Did you come to rescue us?" She asked.

The boy nodded. "Yes, we did. Do you know of the Zhuo District nearby? We came from there," he said.

"I see. Thank you for coming," the old woman said gratefully.

"Don't mention it, ma'am. We're just doing our jobs. You two should join the others now." Chouhi and her squad had marched away.

"Thank you…" The old woman said before she looked at the young girl who was with her. "Come on, dear. Let us go now."

"Umm… h-hawa…" The young girl was staring at the boy before she looked at the old woman. "Oh, umm… ma'am, p-please go ahead of me. I, umm…" She hesitated.

"Do you need something from me?" The boy asked.

"Ah! Y-yes! Umm… a-are you the chief magistrate of Zhuo?" The young girl asked.

"Yeah, I guess…" The boy shrugged. "At least you can say that's my current job," he said as he smiled wryly.

"I knew it!" The girl's eyes were glittering as she looked at the boy. "So you are the Messenger from Heaven, right?"

"Uh… y-yeah, I guess they do call me that," the boy said hesitantly. For some reason, he seemed to be rather uncomfortable being called a Messenger from Heaven by the girl. "What about it?"

"Hawawa! Ah, umm… m-my family name is Shokatsu! My first name is Ryou! My common name is Koumei!" The young girl introduced herself.

The boy blinked. "Huh? Shokatsu… Shokatsuryou?" From the look of his face, it seemed that he recognized that name. He scratched his head and muttered something under his breath. The girl, Koumei, tilted her head as she looked at the boy's behavior.

"Umm…" Koumei said, unsure what to say.

After a while, the boy then looked at Koumei and smiled. "Sorry. Got spaced out a little there," he said. "My name is Kiba Yuuto. You can call me Kiba or Yuuto, whichever you like."

Kiba Yuuto was a little confused. While he had already accepted that he would encounter more figures from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms with their genders wrong, he didn't expect to find that the legendary strategist, Shokatsuryou, was a young girl like her. Furthermore, Shokatsuryou lived in Jingzhou at the center of the continent. She wasn't supposed to join Ryuubi, the role that Kiba had taken, until after his three personal visits.

"It doesn't seem like everything will follow the historical events…" Kiba thought to himself. If he encountered Shokatsuryou this early, then he should expect more irregularities in the future. Not only that most of the figures were female, it seemed that things might not follow the events that had transpired in the novel.

Kiba sighed. He believed that his situation became more and more complicated, and he had no choice but to wing it. He believed that his friend, Issei might do the same thing. Though considering the kind of person he was, something perverted and indecent was guaranteed to be involved.

He studied the young girl who called herself Shokatsuryou. From what he had read before, Shokatsuryou, or Zhuge Liang, as the Chinese called him, was a militant strategist as well as scholar and a statesman. Due to his exploits, he became known as the 'Sleeping Dragon', due to his intelligence as a strategist and a scholar while living in relative seclusion.

"So, Koumei, isn't it?" Kiba said, crouching as he focused on the young girl who called herself Shokatsuryou. "Nice to meet you."

"H-hawa! Y-yesh! N-nice to m-meet chuu!" Koumei answered anxiously. From what Kiba could tell, she seemed to have trouble articulating her words while panicking. She somehow reminded him of Asia. "Umm… p-please allow me to j-join y-you, M-Messenger from Heaven!"

"Join me?" Kiba blinked.

"Auu…" Koumei looked down in embarrassment.

"Calm down, alright? Take a few deep breaths," Kiba instructed.

"Huh? Oh, y-yes!" And so, Koumei took a few deep breaths in order to calm herself down. After taking a few deep breaths, she seemed much calmer than before.

"So, do you feel calmer now?" Kiba asked.

"Umm, yes…" Koumei said.

"Alright, let's get started, then…" Kiba nodded. "First, can you tell me your name again?"

"Yes! Umm… my name is Shokatsuryou. My common name is Koumei, and, umm… my true name is Shuri…" Koumei answered Kiba's question.

"Alright, thank you…" And that was the confirmation of her being Shokatsuryou. "Well, why do you want to join us?" Kiba asked.

"Umm… I… I was studying at a private school under a famous teacher, Suikyou-sensei. But I couldn't stand seeing common people suffer…" Koumei answered. Then with determined eyes, she looked at Kiba and said, "I always wanted to use my knowledge to help people. That's when I heard a messenger descended from Heaven in Youzhou…"

Kiba nodded as he listened to Koumei's answer. "So, you came all this way because of that?"

"Y-yes!" Koumei nodded.

"Alright, I think I get you," Kiba said. "But we're still in the middle of a battle. Once it's over, let me hear your story. Sounds good to you?"

"Umm… w-will that be alright with you?" Koumei asked.

"Of course…" Kiba said, patting Koumei's head. "So, why don't you retreat with the old woman for now? We'll go after the girl and fight off the Yellow Turbans…"

"Uh… umm!" Koumei hesitated.

"Hmm?" Kiba raised one eyebrow. "What's wrong?" He asked.

Koumei then bowed and said, "I'll go with you! Please let me go with you! I can be of use to you!"

"Are you sure? This is a battle. People die here," Kiba pointed out.

"I'm not shcared!" Koumei exclaimed. "Auu…

"That's okay if you're scared. That's normal…" Kiba said to Koumei reassuringly. "Well, if you really want to join us, I guess there's nothing we can do about it…" He patted the girl's head again. "From now on, I'll protect you, Koumei…"

"Auu… ah," Koumei blushed as Kiba patted her. "Umm… p-please call me Shuri! That's my true name!"

"Shuri? Are you sure?" Kiba inquired. True names, or mana, can only be said by close friends and families.

"Y-yes, I'm sure! From now on, I will join you in this fight for the sake of the people!" Koumei said with determination in her eyes. "So, from now on, call me Shuri!"

Kiba stared at her for a while before he smiled and nodded. "If you say so, Shuri. In return, will you call me Kiba?"

Koumei's eyes glittered with excitement. "Y-yes, Lord Kiba!"

And so, Kiba and Koumei, as well as Fang Squad, marched to join the others so that they could face the incoming Yellow Turbans.
