Chapter 9
The sun was rising slowly today on Berk painting the sky with a bright blue and red that one would miss if they don't stop to watch it. However one particular Viking boy didn't have time to enjoy the sky become day, or listen to the sounds of the birds that chirp or even smell the fresh scent of the trees, instead he was making his way to the cove where the Night Fury resides, with a basket of fish in one arm and the fin and saddle in the other. He walk along the woods with a pensive look on his face and just ignore the forest around him and being careful not to trip over as his mind was only focus on getting to his destination.
Hiccup arrive at the entrance to the cove but before he entered he turn back and stood there waiting, after a minute of staring at nothing but the trees and rocks, he entered the cove. As he made his way down Hiccup spotted Toothless and greeted him, who was happy to see him again. The teen boy opened the basket and spilled all the fish out and as always the black dragon immediately started eating his meal. As he waited for the dragon to finish his food, Hiccup shifted his body towards the entrance of the cove and stared at it. He kept looking at it waiting to see something or more specifically a certain red hair Viking girl to come through it. When he sees that nothing will come through the entrance the Viking boy sat down by a big rock and started eating a piece of bread for breakfast.
It had already been 2 days after what happen that night at the Great Hall that Hiccup last talked to Merida. Since then the Viking boy has continued to see the Night Fury, but the Viking girl has not come or shown up at the cove at all, and when he would catch sight of her when he was walking around the village or when he was at the forge she would only glance at him and then walk away. It was like she was back doing the same thing she did before he caught Toothless, ignoring him like they weren't friends anymore. And Hiccup didn't want that, he didn't want to be ignore by her again, but he couldn't understand why she was acting like this.
'Did I do something that made her angry at me?' thought Hiccup 'Of course I did. After all, I always ruin everything'
The teen boy was so absorbed with his inner thoughts that he was brought back when he felt something nudge his leg and sees that it was Toothless. Before he could question the dragon, he notice that the pile of fish was all gone "Oh I see, you're done eating" Hiccup ate his bread fast and swallow it down while pounding his chest "Right! So let's get started!"
He grab the fin and saddle and place it on the black dragon, Hiccup also added new features that are around Toothless front legs. After checking everything was well placed, Hiccup put on the belt and harness and looked at the dragon "You ready bud?" Toothless nodded and spread his wings to show it, Hiccup got on and hooked the belt with the saddle and then they were up in the air.
During these pass 2 days the Viking boy and dragon continued practicing their flying, Hiccup has been taking notes of their flight pattern every time they flew and also when they fell. It did a lot of help for the teen boy on what to improve and what to avoid. And when they took a break Hiccup started drawing Toothless and writing the dragon's measurements since the book of dragons didn't have much information about the species.
An hour passed and the Viking boy and dragon were having another flight test and were doing well, Hiccup moved his left feet just a little and it manage to change their position but then the prosthetic fin close. They were flying out of balance and both Hiccup and Toothless knew that they had to make a quick emergency landing. Toothless kept his wings up to balance them in the air and Hiccup was able to open the fin just enough for them to take control back. As swiftly as they could both manage to land on the ground, it was not the best landing but at least they didn't get hurt.
Hiccup got off and looked all over the dragon to make sure he wasn't hurt "You alright bud?"
Toothless shook his head but nodded to the Viking boy, Hiccup made a sigh of relief and then grabbed his notebook and took notes of the flight. Toothless observe as the small human focused on the item on his hand, making the dragon wonder what so interesting about it.
The Night Fury then sense something, he had this feeling that someone was watching him and the Viking boy. Toothless turn his head and his eyes spotted the thing or more like the person watching them. Above the cove the dragon saw the red hair Viking girl hiding behind a huge rock, this isn't the first time that the dragon seen her there and wondered why she won't come down. Merida notice that the Night Fury was staring at her, she waved and gave him a smile, which the dragon didn't like because even from where he was, he could tell that the human girl smile was not of joy or happiness, it held sadness and loneliness.
The Night Fury turn his attention to the human boy who was still focus on the item in his hand to even realize that the Viking girl was watching them. When Toothless looks back to where the red hair girl was hiding, he sees that she was gone. Hiccup stop looking at his notebook for a moment then turn his gaze to the entrance once again.
The Night Fury sees that the small human was looking at the hole that he uses to come in and out of the cove, and the sad expression on his face. The black dragon had a feeling that perhaps the Viking boy was waiting for the Viking girl to appear through the hole like entrance.
Toothless may not know much about humans but he can tell that something was going on between the boy and the girl. The dragon had notice the change a few days ago, when the Viking boy came to visit he didn't looked as cheerful as he usually was, that's when Toothless realize that the Viking girl hadn't come during the days the small boy came to the cove. However the dragon has manage to spot the human girl from above hiding behind that very same rock, she would only be there for a moment and then leave without saying anything. The Night Fury was beginning to think that the two humans were having another quarrel with each other like last time. The dragon may not know why the human boy and human girl were avoiding each other but he wanted them to stop it and get along again, and in order for that to happen he needed the two humans to be together. But Toothless knew that the small boy will want to keep practicing their flying and the red hair girl won't come here because she will be somewhere else. So the dragon had no other choice but to take action on getting the two humans to be in the same place.
After resting for a few minutes and looking over his notes, Hiccup stands up and gets ready for another test flight. He looks over at Toothless and the fin and got on the saddle, as he adjusted himself he was caught surprise that the Night Fury started running instead of flying.
"T-T-Toothless?! Hey!"
The Night Fury made his way to where he last saw the Viking girl and began to climb up the rocky wall of the cove by digging his claws on the hard surface while flapping his wings to help "T-Toothless what-W-Whoa!" The dragon ignore the small boy's cries and didn't worried if he fell since they were attached by the material they had on. They both almost fell but Hiccup quickly opened the fin and it help the dragon to fly just enough to jump out. Toothless manage to land above the cove and made his way to the rock where he last saw the Viking girl.
"T-Toothless, what are you doing?" asked Hiccup with a mix of worried and confuse expression "We should head back to the cove. Come on!"
But the dragon didn't listen to the Viking boy and just focus on the rock. He then began sniffing all over the big rock and down to the ground to try to get the Viking girl's scent.
"Toothless come on. Let's go-WHOA!"
The Night Fury suddenly started running into the woods and began making his way to find the Viking girl. Hiccup kept yelling at the dragon to stop but clearly the scaly beast was not listening to him, and what was going through his head was where in Thor's name the dragon was taking him.
~0~
Merida was at her secluded spot where she practice her archery, but she wasn't shooting any arrows at the moment, she was sitting on the ground with her back leaned towards a tree and simply stared at the arrow in her hand. Usually she will be shooting arrows one after the other but didn't much feel like it, her mind was too distracted for her to focus, mainly because she couldn't stop thinking about a certain auburn hair Viking boy.
She hasn't had contact with Hiccup since their last confront 2 days ago, she hadn't gone to the cove with him or talk to him when she saw him in the village. She has gone back to ignoring him like before, however she had secretly gone to the cove but only watching from a distance to see how the Night Fury was doing and would also see the Viking boy there by chance.
Merida was glad that the teen boy and dragon were slowly getting better on their flying even when they crash land, but that didn't mean she felt a bit sad. She didn't want to watch from afar like she always had, she wanted to be there with them. But after what she did to Hiccup, the redhead girl didn't know how to face him, she knew that she had to apologies but the expression he made that night reminded her of what she did on that day when she stop being friends with him.
Merida let out a sigh 'Why do Ah always make things worse?'
After a few minutes of sitting around doing nothing Merida stoop up from the ground and grabbed her bow and quiver. She took her position and drew the bow all the way back to her cheek and focus on the target in front of her. When a few more seconds passed she let go of the arrow and it hit the target, but it didn't land on the center. The Viking girl turn to her left and drew another arrow, aimed at the target and fired, the arrow hit the target but not the center.
Again she turn to the next target and drew the bow back and focused, a second later she let go but once again it didn't land at center or at the target, she missed. Merida made a frustrated sigh and went to find it. After walking a small distance from her practice area she found the arrow, but Merida just stood there trying to think of a way to apologies to Hiccup until her mind was interrupted when she heard loud sounds coming from the same direction to her archery spot.
She also heard a loud thump that could come from a dragon and she could have swarm that she also heard a person's voice that sounded really familiar. Merida quickly ran back to her secluded spot and when she arrived she was in totally stun to see not only Hiccup there but Toothless as well.
"Hiccup?"
The Viking boy turn his head and was surprise to see the red hair girl "M-Merida! I uh, h-hey! Hi!"
"What are ye daein haur?" Merida asked with a confuse expression. She never thought that they would ever leave the cove, and at broad daylight no less. And of all places for them to be she didn't think they would find her and her archery spot.
"Umm I-I don't know myself" said Hiccup nervously since he didn't have the right answer for that. He didn't know why Toothless abruptly drag himself out of the cove and into the woods, he also didn't expect to run into Merida in what looks like to be her archery practice.
"So uh this must be y-you're archery spot?" Hiccup ask trying to make the tension less awkward.
"Yeah. Ah was jist practicin' right now" replied Merida not making eye contact with the teen boy.
"Oh then umm we'll-we'll just leave" Hiccup patted Toothless on his head "Come on Toothless. Let's go back"
Toothless looked at the Viking boy and shook his head and then sat down, both Hiccup and Merida were surprise for the dragon's response.
"Toothless let's go" repeated Hiccup but the Night Fury was not moving or even listening, he just huff through his nose and stayed put. Hiccup didn't understand why the black dragon was acting the way he is but he was seriously not liking it "Stop fooling already. We are turning around and going back to the cove NOW!" He ordered sounding like a father talking to his child.
Toothless looked at the Viking boy with narrowed eyes, then showed his response by merely laying down and place his head on his paws. The Night Fury may listen to the small human when it comes with the matter of his tail or flying but if he wants to stay or move, the dragon will do as he pleases whether the Viking boy likes it or not.
Hiccup had an annoyed look on his face "You got to be kidding me" he said. He unhook himself from the saddle, untied the rope from his left foot, got off and stood in front of the dragon. He place his hand on both his sides and tried to look intimidating "Toothless" the dragon opened one eye "We are going to the cove now!"
The dragon stood up and looked at the Viking boy with a bored expression and huff his nose on his face. The dragon then turn around facing away from him, and he laid back down.
"Thor give me strength…" mumble Hiccup as he held his face with his hand.
Merida stood next to him and stared at the black dragon with questionable eyes "Ah dornt think he's wants tae move"
"Looks like it" said Hiccup before giving a sigh "Sorry. Guess you won't be able to practice"
Merida place one hand on her hip and made a confident look "Who says Ah won't?"
Hiccup looked confuse "Well uh-"
"Even if he's thaur, Ah can still shoot either way" said Merida shrugging her shoulders "Plus it'll be like a challenge"
"You sure?" He asked.
"Of coorse" said Merida with a nod "And if yoo're that worried, ye can stay an' watch me practice if ye want"
"R-Really?"
"Sure. Besides…" Merida gave a half smile and pointed at the sleeping dragon "Yoo're th' only one that this lazy beast listens tae" Toothless heard what she said and glared at her, in which didn't scare the red hair girl at all as she gave the dragon a smug look.
Hiccup scoffed at how the two of them were acting and then sees Merida pointing at a specific spot "Ye can stand over thaur whaur it's safe, unless ye want an arrow tae hit ye"
Before he could say anything both Hiccup and Merida were caught surprise that Toothless suddenly stood up and walked to where the Viking girl said to be. The dragon got himself comfortable and laid down, he place his head on his paws and went back to sleep.
Hiccup had his mouth open and an expression on his face that said 'Seriously' the dragon wouldn't listen to him when he asked to move but he'll gladly listen to the Merida. The Viking boy was going to say something to the dragon but didn't even bother "Alright then. So we'll be over there if you need us" he said with sarcasm as walk towards the dragon and sat down next to him.
Merida had an amused smile on her face and got herself ready to shoot. When the red hair Viking girl got her bow and quiver ready, she stood straight and place the arrow on her bow and pulled it back all the way to her cheek. Hiccup observe the red hair girl with interest since it's been years since he last time he saw her practice and Toothless was also watching with curious eyes.
Merida eyes were focus on the target and even though she knew that Hiccup and Toothless were watching her, she didn't felt nervous at all. She took a small deep breath and release the arrow, it went flying fast through the air and hit the target but this time it landed on the center. Hiccup smiled from excitement never having doubt that it wouldn't land on the center and Toothless was merely impress with the Viking girl's aim.
Merida continued on shooting arrow, after arrow at the targets around her, in the majority she manage to hit the center but a few landed just an inch away from the center but she didn't mind, it just means that she has to get better next time.
Hiccup just kept watching with much interest and even had his sketch book out as he couldn't help himself but draw her. Toothless watch the human girl shooting for a while until he decided to take a nap.
Merida let another arrow go but she missed and it flew off somewhere "I'll be reit back" she said as she went to find it.
Hiccup stop drawing and looks at all the targets, he really was impress how the redhead Viking girl was able to make this small area her practice range and hit every single one of the targets. The teen boy also notice that there were other arrows still imbedded in the targets, and some that somehow landed on the tree trunk above and below. Hiccup got up and went to get a closer look at them, as he inspected them he sees that the arrows that were already there to be old, which means Merida has left them there, he figured that perhaps it was a reminder for herself so she doesn't do it again.
Merida came back with the arrow and notice Hiccup looking at the targets making her wonder what he could be thinking of.
Hiccup notice her returned and quickly goes back to where he was standing "Sorry. You can continue"
Merida nodded and stood to where she was before, she was about to grab an arrow until an idea came to her "Hiccup" she turn to look at him "Would ye like tae shoot one?"
Hiccup was quiet and blinked until he finally spoke "W-What?"
"Would ye like tae shoot one? As in an arrow at th' target" said Merida as a matter of fact.
"Me shoot? Shoot and Arrow?"
"Yes. Do Ah need tae explain it in more details?"
Hiccup was surprise for the offer but quickly shook his head "N-No thanks. I'm uh really not that good"
"Then I'll teach ye" she said as if it was an obvious solution.
"I-I uh appreciate the offer, but I don't think it's a good idea" he said.
"Oh come on. One wee arrow willnae kill ye"
"Who's to say that it won't?"
Merida rolled her eyes and gave him a playful smirk "Jist give it a try. Ye wee lamb"
Hiccup's eyes became narrow for what she just called him, she would always called him that just to tease him and to rile him up to do whatever she wanted. He was about to say something but before he could he felt something hit him on his back that push him forward and made him trip and fall awkwardly. Merida let out a small a laugh after seeing him fall and the Viking boy turn his head at Toothless who used his tail to push him.
Hiccup gave a small glare at the black dragon "Stupid dragon" Toothless made a smug smile indicating that he heard the Viking boy and went back to his nap. Hiccup notice Merida walking over to him, he held his hand out thinking that she was going to help him but was caught surprise that she walk pass him and went towards a target and started pulling out the arrows. The teen boy then got up by himself and waited for her to collect the arrows.
When she was done collecting all of the arrows Merida place them in her quiver, she walked towards Hiccup and hand over her bow to him "Show me how ye shoot" she said as she pointed at a specific target for him to hit. Hiccup still didn't think it was a good idea because he knew that he won't be good at it but he might as well do it and get it over with.
He grabbed an arrow from her and place the arrow on the bow and pull it back, he was having a bit of trouble with the bow string since it was quite strong. With every little strength that he could Hiccup manage to pull the string and the arrow back, but before he could even aim his fingers slip and the arrow went loose too soon, and no surprise it landed on the ground.
"See, I told you. I'm no good" said Hiccup feeling dejected.
"If ye want tae be good then ye have tae practice" said Merida as she grabbed her bow from him "Watch me"
Merida took a stance and place the arrow on her bow, she pulled the string back and her eyes focus on the target, she pulled the bow back a bit more and a second later it fly fast through the air and it hit the center. The Viking girl turn to the teen boy and offered the bow "Try again"
Hiccup hesitated for a moment but then grabbed the bow and arrow. He was about to aim until he receive a slight pain on his fore head and looked at Merida who used her middle finger to flick him.
"Yer standin' wrong" she said.
Hiccup tilt his head in confusing "What?"
Instead of answering Merida walk behind him and place both her hands on his shoulders and shifted his body "Stay like that an' keep yer feet apart"
Hiccup was going to say something but decided not to since it's clear that the Viking girl knows what she's doing, because she's the expert. So he place his feet apart, but then Merida used her foot to tap his boot making him look at her and see the way how her feet were apart. He moved his feet in the same position as hers and kept his body in place.
Merida walk around and stood on the side where his front body was facing "Now draw th' bow strin' back"
Hiccup held the bow tightly and drew the string back but was having trouble in pulling the string again since it was strong. He felt a hand on his left shoulder and looked at Merida.
"Relax. There's nae rush for ye tae shoot" She said in a calm voice "Also dornt hauld th' bow so tight as if yor life depended on it. Ye willnae be able tae stop trembling an' hit the targit"
Hiccup look at her with a perplex expression "Did you study me from just shooting one arrow"
Merida gave a shrug as if was nothing "More or less?"
The Viking boy was impress by her observation skills and nodded to do what she said, he held the bow firmly but not tightly, then he tug on the bow string twice and then with much strength as he could gather he pull the bow back. He was trembling but still kept the arrow in place.
"Try tae draw it back just a wee bit more tae yer cheek" told Merida.
Hiccup made a small nodded and pull the string back to his cheek like she said. His elbow was pointed up but then he felt Merida's hand move it down slowly until it was place at a right angle which he was grateful for.
"Keep both eyes open…"
He kept his green eyes opened as she said but also focus at the target in front of him, while still managing to keep the arrow in place.
"… And… loose!"
Hiccup let the arrow go and it went flying straight in the air and then a thud sound was heard. The Viking boy couldn't believe his eyes, he actually manage to hit the target, granted the arrow didn't hit the center but he still was able to hit the target.
"Wow" said Hiccup amaze that he really hit the target.
Merida gave a nod of approval and held out another bow "Want tae try again?"
Hiccup nodded and grabbed the arrow and did what Merida told him before, his stance was the same and held the bow firmly. He drew the bowstring all the way back to his cheek, and kept his eyes on the target and a second later release the arrow and it hit the target, not even close to the center. But that didn't stop the smile that appeared on Hiccup's face the he actually manage to hit the target again.
The Viking boy continued shooting and even if he didn't hit the center of the targets, and some ended up on the tree trunk, he was just fine that he was able to actually use a bow and arrow. Merida was glad that Hiccup was enjoying himself, which she understood since he's not good at handling any weapons you throw at him, the best he can use is a dagger but somehow manages to always loose it. Toothless opens his eyes to check how the two humans are doing and was glad to see that they were getting along again, which was obviously thanks to him. He sees the Viking boy was prepared to shoot another arrow but then sees him make a strange look on his face. The dragon was confuse for the weird facial expression thinking it was a human thing but then he was caught surprise to hear the small boy make a loud sound which cause him to let the arrow go and was heading right towards him.
Toothless quickly moved away and dodge the pointy stick and saw it hit a boulder and fall to the ground. The Night Fury was surprise for the sudden attack and narrowed his eyes on the Viking boy, he knows that the small human didn't mean to hurt him but that didn't mean the dragon couldn't be mad for almost being hit.
"I-I uh, s-sorry! Sorry Toothless!" stuttered Hiccup after rubbing his nose "I just sneeze and umm well i-i-it was an accident. I'm sorry! I'll be more c-careful"
Toothless gave a huff and turn around to face away from the two humans and went back to sleep.
Merida gave a small laugh "Ah think he's mad"
"H-He'll get over it…" said Hiccup "I hope"
Hiccup went to get the arrow and made sure not to disturbed the sleeping Night Fury. He got the arrow and turn back in time to sees Merida about to shoot, and no surprise it landed on the center. The smile on her face was enough to tell the Viking boy that she truly enjoys shooting with her bow and arrows, which he knows very well since he always makes them for her and that she was never anywhere in Berk without them.
"Merida"
Merida replied my making an "hmm" sound as her eyes stayed focus on the target and was ready to shoot another arrow.
Hiccup didn't know if he should bring it up or not but part of him wanted to know if everything is really alright between them after what happened that night. And if she's ever coming to the cove again.
"About what happened that night at the Great Hall…"
Hiccup heard a thud sound thinking that the arrow hit the target but when he looked the arrow landed on the tree trunk below the target, he look at Merida and saw that her eyes were narrowed and her mouth was thin. Which made the Viking boy tense thinking that he made a mistake from saying anything.
"What about it?" She asked with a bitter tone.
Hiccup rubbed his neck nervously "Are y-you still upset about what happened?"
"No" said Merida firmly as she grabs another arrow from her quiver and shoots. The arrow hit the target but it didn't land on the center but the she didn't care.
Hiccup sees the Viking girl shoot another arrow and it miss the center of the target, she shot another arrow and it miss again. The auburn boy could clearly tell that Merida wasn't focusing, if anything she looked like she was shooting for no reason at all.
"Merida, are you-"
"Aam fine, Hiccup"
"B-But it's okay, if you're still upset about it"
"An' Ah already told ye that Aam not" She said firmly as she shot another arrow and missed.
Hiccup rolled his eyes knowing very well that she's lying and spoke out "Yeah well I'm not convince that you are".
Merida stops shooting and turn to face the Viking boy with a hard glare, instead of feeling nervous or scared Hiccup looks at her with his own intimidating glare to show the Viking redhead that he can hold himself against her. After a minute of their ongoing glares and saying nothing to the other, the teen girl was the first to break away and started plucking out the arrows from the targets while muttering under her breath.
Hiccup ran his hand through his hair and spoke "Merida can you just tell me-"
"There's naethin' tae teel Hiccup" replied Merida cutting in as she put away another arrow to her quiver.
"Clearly there is something, you just don't want to admit it" said Hiccup feeling a bit irritated by her answer.
"Weel yoo're wrong, there's naethin' tae say"
"Yes there is!"
"No thaur isn't, so jist stop it alright!"
"But-"
"Jist forget it!"
Hiccup gave a frustrated sigh and spoke out loud "Why are you being so stubborn about this?"
"Ah could say th' same thing about ye!" remarked Merida glaring at him again.
Toothless head snaps up from the sudden loud shout that woke him from his slumber and sees that the Viking boy and Viking girl were no longer having a good time with one another but were once again in a quarrel.
"Why does it matter tae ye whether Aam upset or not?"
"Oh I'm sorry if I'm being a bad friend for wanting to help!"
"Ye want tae help?"
"Yes I do!"
"Then help me by NOT helpin' me!"
"T-That doesn't even make senses!"
"Maybe it's coz ye dornt understand!"
"How can I understand, if you won't tell me!"
The Night Fury rolled his eyes not understanding why they were fighting like a couple of dragon hatchlings.
"Because it doesnae matter!" yelled Merida as her hand tighten on her bow.
"But it matters to you!" Hiccup yelled back
"Weel Ah dornt want tae talk about it! So will ye jist leave it alone!"
"Not until you tell me the truth!"
Merida threw her hands up and let out a frustrated groan, then she turn to grab her satchel and started walking away.
"What are-W-Where you going?!" asked Hiccup.
Merida turn to look at him "Anywhaur but here an' away from ye! Cause Ah have had it!"
"So you're seriously leaving just because you don't want to talk about it?"
"Yes! What part of that dornt ye understand, ye wee lamb!"
"Don't call me that!"
"Will ye stop askin' me about that night?"
"No!"
"Then NO!"
"You're seriously so-so-"
"Aww is th' wee lamb havin' problems wi his words!"
"Will you just-just-" Hiccup grab his head with his hands as if trying to pull his hair out but then yells back "You know what? Fine! Go ahead! Go, you have my permission leave!
"Ah dornt need yer permission! Ah can go whenever Ah want!"
"Then go already! Go back and just ignore my very existence! Since that's the only thing you're so go at!"
"An' ye can go back tae yer flyin' lessons an' yer glaikit inventions that always blow up in yer face!"
"Fine then just go!"
"Fine Ah will!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
"FINE!"
Merida turn around not wanting to look at him any longer and began to leave but then Toothless stood in front of her, she was startled that the dragon appeared in front of her so suddenly but then got over it and walk around him but then the dragon just moved in front of her again making her stop.
"Toothless coods ye please move" said Merida in a more calm tone, she tried to move around the dragon but then he block her with his big wings "Toothless stop that" She once again move around but the Night Fury got in front and stopped her.
"Toothless!" exclaimed Merida as she glared at him and Toothless gave his own glare towards the red head girl.
Merida gave a sigh then turn to walk another direction but yet again the Night Fury swiftly moves pass and blocks the Viking girl's way. She quickly turn around and tried to run off but within seconds the Night Fury stood in her way with a stance that made her look like a prey trapped by a predator "Toothless! Let me pass!"
The Night Fury wasn't intending on letting her leave, he may not know what was going on between the Viking boy and Viking girl, but knew that whatever problems they have with each other should be solve with them being together, not apart.
Merida didn't understand why the big fire breathing reptile was not letting her leave but she certainly didn't want to stay, she turn towards Hiccup and sees that he was also confuse to the dragons strange behavior.
"Can ye tell yer dragon tae move!" said Merida in anger.
Hiccup's eyes became narrowed and crossover his arm "Oh I'm sorry, did you say something? Cause I thought you didn't want to talk to me"
Merida rolled her eyes "Jist tell him tae move!"
Hiccup gave a shrug "I'm waiting"
"Huh?"
"You know that word you use when you want something, and you have to ask nicely" explained Hiccup and use his hand to make a circular mothing "I'm waiting"
Merida gave him a hard glare "Serioosly?"
"Yep"
Merida rolled her eyes and took a deep breath and let it out "Can ye tell yer dragon tae move. Please" she said reluctantly.
"Sorry I didn't hear that, can you say it again" said Hiccup with a smirk.
Merida face turn to full anger and was holding back everything she had not to pummel him "PLEASE!"
"See that wasn't so hard, was it?" stated Hiccup as he made his way towards them, enjoying the look of frustration on the teen girl's face.
When Hiccup was in front of the dragon his face turn serious "Toothless. Can you let Merida go, please" he said.
The Viking boy expected the dragon to listen to him but instead Toothless shook his head and just stayed put.
Hiccup was surprise for the dragon's response and tried again "Toothless let her pass now" he said more sternly but the dragon simply gave a small growl.
Seeing that the Viking boy and dragon's attention were on each other, Merida took that moment to make a run for it but then Toothless swiftly caught up to her and blocked her path. Merida tried again and ran to another direction, the Night Fury was about to move but was caught surprise to see the human boy standing in front of him, the dragon knew that he was trying to stop him but sadly it was futile. The dragon manage to go around him and was able stop the human girl in her tracks.
"Hiccup! Why won't he let me pass?!" yelled Merida.
"Believe me I'm as much confuse as you are!" replied Hiccup with annoyance as he moved towards the dragon "Toothless stop this already!"
But Toothless simply stood still and with his wings out looking like he was standing guard for any intruders trying to escape.
Hiccup made a face-palm and muttered something under his breath while Merida crossed her arms and tap her foot on the ground trying to think of a way to out run the dragon, since really is impossible because he's a freaking Night Fury. Hiccup then thought of an idea that will definitely work "I have an idea, I'll get some dragon nip to use on him"
Merida looked at the auburn boy with a raise eye brow "Dragon nip?"
"It's the scented grass. I uh called it Dragon nip cause-well you know" explained Hiccup.
"Yeah Ah get it" she said.
"A-Anyways I'm going to go get some" He said "You just, just stay here"
"Dornt have much of a choice" said Merida flatly since she can't go anywhere with the black dragon in her way.
"Right. So I'll be right back" Hiccup began making his way to get some Dragon nip but then was stop in his track by none other than the Night Fury.
"Are you serious?!" Exclaimed Hiccup. He tried to go around but Toothless used his wings to block him "Really? Really Toothless? Now you won't let me go either?!"
Toothless nod his head to answer the question which didn't make the Viking boy any less angry. Hiccup turn around and ran but was easily stop by the dragon, he tries again running to another direction but Toothless easily caught up to him and blocks his path.
The Night fury was so focus on the small human that he forgot about the other one, his acid green eyes caught sight of the human girl making her escape. The dragon new that if he goes after her the Viking boy will try to run as well, but he was not going to let either of them get away that easily.
Without warning the Night Fury used his teeth to grab the Viking boy from behind by his clothing "Oh come on! Toothless put me down!" ordered Hiccup as he tried to get free.
Toothless turn his head to where he last saw the Viking girl and sees her running from a distance, he kept a good hold on the Viking boy and advance towards her in maximum speed. He was catching up to her and then used his wings to leap over and land in front of her which made her stop and catching her by surprise.
"What the? Hiccup what are ye daein' ?!" Merida asked confuse from seeing the state that his in.
"Oh you know, just hanging!" said Hiccup sarcastically while struggling.
The redhead girl was about to turn around and run but Toothless used his tail to make her trip and fall. Then Toothless let's go of the Viking boy who landed on his rear end "Oww".
Merida got up from the ground and was about to run but the dragon stood in her way yet again "Hiccup do somethin' !" She exclaimed.
"Don't you think I'm trying!" yelled Hiccup as he got up and stood in front of the dragon "Toothless enough already! Stop playing around and let us go now!"
Toothless got close to the human boy's face, enough for him to feel his breath and growled at him. Hiccup eyes widen with fear and snap his mouth shut, thinking that he may have gone a bit overboard that he could control the dragon. When the Night Fury sees that the human boy understood, he snorted and then leaned away from thim.
Hiccup won't lie by saying that he felt a bit scared when Toothless growled it him, since it was the same thing he did when he was pinned down the first time they met 'At least he didn't blow up my eardrums like before' he thought.
Merida was going to take one step to leave but then heard the dragon growled at her which made her stop and then face palm "Why is he daein' this?"
"You're guess is as good as mine" replied Hiccup rubbing his neck.
"Was he like this durin' th' times ye visit heem?" She asked.
"Besides that time I tried to put the saddle on him, no" sighed Hiccup "If this is some sort of dragon behavior, then I don't know what to do"
"Wooldnae be th' first time" muttered Merida as she crossed her arms.
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Hiccup turning towards her with a glare.
"Exactly whit it means" replied Merida returning her own glare.
"What you're saying that this is my fault?"
"Ah think that question has already been answered!"
"Well then if you're so smart then you figure a way out of this!"
"He's yer dragon! Ye should know what's gonnae on with heem!"
"Fine let me just check the book of Night Furies to see what it says. Oh wait, it doesn't exist!"
Both Viking teens were startled when the Night fury made a loud roar all of a sudden and gave them a fierce glare. Merida and Hiccup stayed quiet, not wanting to get the dragon even angrier than he already is, when Toothless sees that they stop yelling at each other, his eyes became less fierce. In a situation like this anyone would be worried or scared being trap by a dragon but Hiccup knew that Toothless won't hurt either of them, he just can't understand why the dragon was doing this and won't let them go.
"Toothless please just let us go" said Hiccup hoping the dragon would listen, but Toothless shook his head and stayed put. The teen boy made a sigh and began scratching his head thinking of a way to reason with the dragon.
'Why is he daein' this? Why is he so determined tae keep us haur?' thought Merida with her arms crossed, not understanding the dragon's action 'Ah want tae leave. Ah want tae leave an' be away from Hiccup so Ah dornt have tae… tae…'
The red hair girl facial expression became blank as she started to realize something, and then began to recall what happened earlier. When she and Hiccup ended their argument she was ready to leave but at that moment the black dragon came in and stopped her. No matter how much she tried the Night fury wouldn't let her go, and when the Viking boy tried to leave as well Toothless also stopped him.
'Both of us tried tae leave, but Toothless stop us. He stop us from leaving'
Merida looks up at the dragon for she may have found the answer, the dragon won't let them leave because he doesn't want them to leave, what he wants is for them to stay together. Merida also realize that when she and Hiccup yelled at each other a moment ago the dragon roar at them, just like the time they fought at the cove. The Night Fury didn't like them fighting, he doesn't want them to fight, and if that's true then the reason he's keeping them here is cause he wants them to get along again. Merida could be wrong but it's the only thing that she could think of for the dragon's behavior, which means there's only one way for them to get out of this.
Hiccup was so lost in his thoughts of how to reason with Toothless, that he was caught surprise feeling his right hand being grabbed and looked to see Merida holding it with both her hands and was a bit confuse by the serious expression she had on "Hiccup Aam so sorry" she said but sounded a bit strange the way she said it and not because she has an accent "Ah shooldnae have yelled at ye an' Ah shooldnae have tried tae leave jist coz Ah didne want tae say anythin'. It's completely mah fault"
Hiccup didn't understand why she was acting so strange all of a sudden and was about to say something until he felt her grip his hand tight. He gave a small wince confuse to why she did that but became tense when he saw how firm her stare was "Let's put this whole thing behin' us an' jist go back to th' cove TOGETHER" she said that last word with more importance.
The Viking boy was stumped by her words and felt his hand being crushed again by her strong grip, he then sees her move her head to the side as if trying to get him to see something. When he turn his head he saw Toothless looking at them with curious eyes, almost as if he was waiting for something.
Hiccup was still confuse but then his eyes widen from realization, he looks back at Merida and she nods at him, making him finally comprehended her actions "Oh! Y-Yes, you-you're right!" He said as he mentally hit himself for stuttering but continued "I'm s-sorry too Merida. I was also at f-fault too!"
Merida nods glad that he finally caught on "Good. Then we are fine"
"Yes w-we are! We are completely f-fine. Just fine you and me!" He said "We should uh all go to the cove together. You, me and Toothless!"
Merida stop the urge to rolled her eyes at him and turns her head to look at the Night fury "Toothless ye win. We willnae fight anymore, see" she says showing the dragon her hands in his for demonstration.
Hiccup nodded "Yes, we uh p-promise not to fight anymore"
"Right so let's all head back an' I'll catch ye some fish" offered Merida.
"That's r-right" said Hiccup with a nervous smile "So what do say bud, let's get going?"
The Night Fury looked between the Viking boy and Viking girl with uncertain eyes but then after seeing that they were talking and not yelling, he believes them, and they were holding on to each other's hands, a custom that the dragon had seen many times before among humans. Toothless nodded his head at them, which made both teens give a sigh of relief that they finally got to convince the dragon to let them go.
"For a moment I thought he was going to keep us here forever" said Hiccup.
"Me too" said Merida letting go of his hand.
Hiccup rubbed his neck nervously and looked at the redhead "Umm how you did uh, how-how did you know that was going to work?"
"Ah figure that th' reason he didne let us leave was coz he wanted us tae get along, and not fight anymore" answered Merida "So if we looked like we were gettin' along, he would let us go"
"I-I see" He said "That was, That was g-good thinking"
"Thanks, Ah guess" She said.
There was an awkward silence between the two of them and neither of teens looked at each other, just like last time, both of them didn't know what exactly to do now.
The Viking girl made a cough sound and started walking ahead "Alright so uh, let's, let's go" just when she thought she was finally free Toothless stood in her way. Merida began to panic thinking that the dragon was going to keep her here forever until she sees him moved his head as if telling her to look behind her, she shifted her body and only sees Hiccup with the same confuse expression like herself.
Merida turn back to the Night Fury and was perplex to what he was trying to tell her, but then she sees the dragon walk over to the Viking boy and starts pushing him forward with his head, leaving Hiccup no choice but to move. Toothless stop pushing until the Viking boy was right next to the Viking girl, he wanted to make sure that they stay together and get along, plus this was also another custom that humans do, they stay close and walk side by side with each other, another thing that the black dragon have seen many times before.
Hiccup and Merida looked back and forth at each other and at the dragon not quite understanding what's going on but then they felt the Night Fury start pushing both of them at the same time to move forward.
"T-Toothless?" voiced Hiccup in confusion. Toothless stopped pushing them and looked at them as if he was waiting for them to do something.
The Viking boy was confuse but then his eyes widen as he understood what the dragon was trying to do "I think… I think he wants us to walk together, since we did say we were going to the cove together"
"Excessive much?" said Merida rolling her eyes.
"It's either that or staying here forever" told Hiccup with sarcasm "Which will it be?"
Merida sigh "Fine. Ah get it"
Hiccup nodded and turn back to the dragon "Come on Toothless".
Both Viking teens began walking side by side with the Night Fury right behind them. Hiccup looked at the dragon and sees that he was actually behaving, or maybe because he could keep an eye on both of them if they tried to make a break for it 'I guess is better than being kept captive' thought Hiccup.
Merida was glad that the dragon finally allowed them to leave but sooner or later they have to part "What's gonnae happen now?" asked Merida as she looked at the Viking boy "Eventually we'll have tae go back to th' village, an' part ways"
Hiccup also wondered about that small detail which made him worried but all he could do was sigh "We can figure it out later, for now let's just head to the cove"
And with that in mind they all made their way back to the cove.
"Amaya wake up!" yelled Natsuki as she shook her awake
Amaya opened her eyes "What happened?"
"You fainted for reaching the 100's on your fanfic" said Natsuki

Natsuki returned the hug and smirk "Yes I am pretty amazing"
