3 weeks later:
Emma sat in her parents apartment, nursing a cup of hot cocoa. The stone had worked and she had given it to Regina the day after she had returned home. Regina was less then thrilled about her new task, claiming that finding a way to alter the magic was near impossible. Emma reminded Regina about their friendship and that she will do everything in her power to find a way to get Regina her happy ending.
It had been three weeks since their conversation and so far, Regina had gotten nowhere. Regina had promised to contact Emma if she found something new but that was rare. If Regina didn't contact her for more than two days, Emma would call her wondering if she had forgotten. Every time, Regina would point out in an irritated tone that she never forgets things that are important to her.
Emma sighed into her cup.
The noise alerted Snow who looked up from her book. "What's wrong Emma?"
Emma shook her head. "Nothing. Just tired"
"Of waiting, right?" Snow finished with a sad smile.
Emma nodded. "Yeah. It's been three weeks mom and Regina still hasn't given me anything that will give me hope"
"Give her time. Regina is very powerful but she doesn't know everything"
"Thanks mom" Emma said sarcastically. "That makes me feel so much better"
"Oh Emma" Snow got up from the couch and made her way over to her daughter. Gently, she embraced her in a hug. "I know it seems bleak but don't give up hope just yet. She's your true love so you will find a way back to her"
"I hope so"
They were locked in that embrace until the door opened. They turned to see Regina standing in the door way.
Her eyes shone in triumph.
"I found a way" She said, holding up the stone.
Emma leaped from her chair and ran over to her. "Really?"
"Yes. It took some time but I finally found a spell that will alter the magic. Now you can go back and forth whenever you want"
"How do you know?" Snow asked.
"Because I tested it myself and it works"
Emma squealed in delight and without a second thought, flung her arms around Regina's neck in a hug. Regina grunted in surprise at the sudden extra weight launched at her.
"Ms. Swan, if you do not release me in five seconds, I will set you on fire" She growled. Emma ignored her, her body vibrating with excitement and placed a kiss on her cheek.
"Thank you so much!" Emma cried out, finally releasing her. Regina stood shocked, a hand on the cheek that Emma kissed her on.
"Well that was...inappropriate" She finally said. She handed the stone over to Emma.
Emma looked down at it, the smile never leaving her lips. "Thank you so much"
"You already said that, dear" Regina pointed out.
"I mean it" Emma said softly. "You could have given up long ago but you didn't"
"I suggest you hurry it up Emma" Regina said, pointing to outside. "The sun will be leaving it's highest point of the day soon"
Emma nodded, her heart thumping in anticipation.
"See you soon sweetheart" Snow said, wrapping her in another hug. "I will tell Henry and David that you said goodbye"
"I'll come back to visit" Emma promised.
"I know you will"
Emma and Regina faced each other.
"So, how does goodbye work with friends?" Regina asked, slightly embarrassed. "Do we just say goodbye or-"
"Shut up and hug me" Emma grinned.
Regina rolled her eyes and stiffly wrapped her arms around Emma. Emma massaged her back until Regina relaxed in her arms.
"That's how you do it" Emma stated.
Regina hummed and crossed her arms over her chest. "Don't tell anyone I hugged you"
Emma laughed. "I won't tell a soul"
"Now go get some things of yours for the trip and come back down here. I'll teleport you where you need to go"
Emma nodded and rushed upstairs to get her things.
Regina looked everywhere that wasn't Snow until it became painfully obvious that Snow was smiling at her.
"What?" Regina snapped.
"I'm so proud of you" Snow beamed.
"Don't look too deep into it Snow" Regina muttered. "I just like a good challenge, that's all"
"Whatever you say" Snow said with a knowing look.
Regina scowled at her but didn't reply.
Emma came down seconds later and said, "I'm ready"
"Take my hand" Regina ordered.
She did and they disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke.
When they landed on the highest peak in Storybrooke, Emma held up the stone to the sun.
"Emma" Regina said quickly.
She turned to her. "Yes?"
Regina smiled, a genuine smile. "Good luck"
Emma's eyes softened. "Thank you"
She looked up at the stone and said softly, "Arendelle"
She closed her eyes and felt the ground beneath her feet disappear.
A warm breeze caressed her face and she opened up her eyes to see herself on the edge of the forest, Arendelle castle right in front of her. She stopped herself from running full speed into the castle, shouting Elsa's name. Instead she walked towards the castle, her heart feeling like it wanted to jump out of her chest.
When she made it to the gates, the guards seemed to recognize her and stepped back, giving a curt nod.
She opened the grand doors and stepped in. She stood in the center of the room, uncertain where to go.
"Do you need some help, miss?" A voice said behind her.
She turned to see a short plump lady holding a basket full of fruit and wearing a warm yet cautious smile.
"Yes, I am looking for Elsa. I'm a friend of hers"
"Have I seen you here before?" She asked.
"Probably not but the guards out front have. You can talk to them if you are feeling uncomfortable" Emma suggested impatiently.
The maid nodded and went quickly to talk to the guards. She came back half a minute later and nodded to Emma. "Queen Elsa is in the back, tending to her garden"
"Thank you"
Emma walked to the back of the castle and opened a small door.
The back was full of flowers and cherry blossoms. The stone pathway was littered with the fallen blossoms.
Emma looked up and stopped short.
Elsa stood with her back to Emma, humming a happy tune and watering the flowers in front of her. She was wearing a different dress this time, one that was black and blue.
Emma had been prepared to hug her, kiss her but she couldn't move her legs. She opened her mouth and whispered, "Elsa"
Elsa froze and straightened. Slowly she turned and when her eyes lay on Emma, the water can slipped from her grasp and clattered to the ground, spilling it's contents.
Elsa's shock slowly turned to a watery smile and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Emma" She breathed.
