Sorry for the long wait. I should warn you that I'll do my best to finish Avenging Angel before I really work on this with any sort of planned dedication. It's kind of a side project that I really love writing. It helps me get into the mood for working on Avenging Angel sometimes and I think they're cute little looks at what our favorite characters think of Katya and the rest of the people they work with. This one is from Coulson's POV, so enjoy! Leave a review with a suggestion for Ch 6 POV! I'll do whoever you guys want (If you choose different characters, I'll choose which one I think will fit the best but I will take them into consideration) Thank you for all the reviews and read on!

Coulson had to fight not to smile as Natasha Romanoff introduced him to the girl that Agent Barton had brought in. An assassin who didn't kill someone she was assigned to. There were so many parallels to the two agents before him that he couldn't help but be interested in the girl. Two of his best agents had come from similar backgrounds. One had come from an almost identical background and she was one of the most loyal agents he had on his payroll as of late.

Then again, Katya was handling the situation far better than either of his agents had. Romanoff had killed three of his best agents, maimed two, and bit the ear off of another the week she'd been brought in. Of course, they'd picked fights with her. She appeared to be fairly young and they had taken that to mean that her skills were overestimated. While he'd mourned their losses, he knew that it wasn't technically her fault. None of his other agents would put up with people randomly walking up and attacking them, so he was more than understanding that she would be the same way. And, without the moral code SHIELD agents were tied to, it made sense that she wouldn't feel any remorse for what she'd done.

Clint Barton was a lot more volatile in a fairly uncommon way when he was first recruited. He had been recruited from the streets, a contract for hire. He was great at that because of his uncommon likeability. People didn't think of him as a killer, they saw him as a handsome guy with a sense of humor. No one saw that he could easily shoot them from the top of a building with an arrow and bow. When he'd been brought into SHIELD, he never outright disobeyed an order, not for the first few years of his employment. In fact, he was a professional at wiggling around the rules to make them to his liking. He never did anything specifically that was wrong. Even when he'd managed to blow a hole in a prototype helicarrier, he hadn't actually done anything to be reprimanded for.

Barton was commonly seen as the lower being within the Avengers, but most people didn't seem to realize that he had a genius level IQ. He hadn't finished high school and he didn't need to. Advanced math was his strong suit, practical knowledge his forte.

The first rule he'd explicitly broken had been when he'd brought Romanoff back with him after being sent out to Russia to kill her. This was yet another rule in the long list the two had broken since Romanoff's induction into SHIELD. She'd easily been the instigator in most of their pranks, but Barton was just as likely to run around like a maniac if there was no one to remind him of the rules.

Coulson was actually quite interested in seeing what it was that was so special about the girl who had named herself Katya Barnes.

"You have no proof of my loyalty." Her accent was fairly soft, only hinting at a Russian background. If she was as good as they claimed, this was probably a deliberate move made to soften them to her. Coulson kept himself professional, though the answer was so like Barton that he could barely hold in the urge to glance at the man to see his thoughts.

"Well, I can take care of that. I had these brought up for you. They're completely voluntary, of course, but I think you'll take this option. They're SHIELD tracking bracelets. GPS enabled and it will lock you out of any unapproved sites on the internet if you go on. They're to make sure our more at risk agents don't try to run out or sell us out. If you decide to put these on, I guarantee a job for you within our agency. You've already proven that you're combat trained and field ready, but the choice is up to you about where you want to go. You could be a Specialist, like Clint and Natasha, or you could be in the science division like Fitzsimmons. There's also the chance of being a handler, which was my job when I first started." He smiled fondly at the thought of how he'd worked with Romanoff and Barton for months to get them to trust him, even just a little. Uphill work was his favorite kind and it had been an incredible battle to get Natasha to let him within ten feet of her. Even Clint had to wait for that privilege, though he'd earned it far faster than Coulson himself.

He was sure Katya would choose to be in SHIELD, mostly because she was stuck. She'd gotten captured and her best trait was her ability to adapt. Natasha had had a hard time learning how to live within rules and structure, but Coulson had found a buried file on the Post Room from years ago, when it was just beginning to flourish. Katerina had been in it. Her name had changed many time within her short life span, but they allowed her the name she'd chosen for herself when she was young. It documented the growth of all of the girls within the program and complimented their best attributes.

Katerina was a master at adaptation, changing her thinking to match a situation. If she was locked up in a secure facility with no way out, she figured out how to get on the good side of her captors and used it to her advantage. If she was thrown into a social gathering with wealthy citizens of foreign countries, she adapted her accents, her walk, her entire being to match the situation. He had no doubt she'd do the same within SHIELD. All he could hope was that she realized they were genuinely trying to help her before she disappeared into a cloud of smoke. Before she figured out how to use their own intelligence against them.

"You'll receive a paycheck that you'll be allowed to use on whatever you wish, you'll receive a bunk, all the perks of being a SHIELD agent. However, if you don't choose that option, option B is being released into the world, on your own, with no money and just a name. We'll get you a passport and a driver's license as well as some cash, but that's it. You'll still be in the bracelets so we can make sure you aren't up to anything nefarious, but you'll be literally free. SHIELD's protection, however, will not follow you." He stared at her callously, knowing he wasn't giving her much of a choice. The Russians were notoriously ruthless with betrayals and they would see her disappearance as just that. Finding her alive would only increase their ire, which would result more than likely in her death. While Natasha had managed to make it in the world for an undisclosed amount of years, she'd never been free.

Katya would have the same existence, which was something he hoped wouldn't happen. He had seen the toll it took on Natasha and wondered, if they had found her first, would she have been like Katya? Innocent and free, able to see that not every hand stretched out was going to hurt her? Katya was strong, lethal, but she'd helped them when they needed her support. They'd been in a tight spot and she'd made sure his agents got out first, put them before herself. That small difference was why he knew she wouldn't walk away.

"The third option, I don't recommend. It involves a tiny cell and being locked away forever." He knew honesty was the best policy and that was why he told her. She needed to know that he wasn't just a man handing out second chances. He would lock her in a cell if she killed more people without probable cause. In their world, probable cause could be as easy as someone picking a fight at the wrong time. Circumstances mattered.

"Do I have time to think?" She asked, a slightly mischievous look on her face. He knew that look all too well, another Barton signature. She would test her limits to see what she would get away with and they would need to enforce their orders, kindly, so she knew they were serious. It would take time, but he could see it working out, especially when Barton and Romanoff were both hovering over her like she was their long lost child, protective and immoveable.

"Two minutes." He watched her mind work, interested to see what she came up with as a response. She was intelligent, she wouldn't accept if she didn't think that she could get out if she had to.

"I don't want to give up my field work just yet. I have red to wipe out. But I want to train to be a handler." She finally answered him, her eyes meeting his innocently. He could see that she was serious, the emotion actually showing on her face. Her words mirrored those that Romanoff had told Barton all those months ago, about wanting to wipe the red off of her ledger. He would have to work on that with Katya. Or have Barton do it. He seemed particularly good at calming angry Russian women down.

"Alright, let me help you get this on." He had no reservations about having her work as a handler. She may not remember her old life as well as anyone had expected, but she had a talent for field work. That knowledge would be invaluable in the oncoming fight against HYDRA. And, of course, he would keep her as a field agent for as long as she was willing. There was no way he would say no to another agent who would be just as productive as the two standing before him.

Reaching out, he was careful to let her see every move he made as he held out the bracelet to clasp it around her wrist. A small, silver trinket, it was incredibly made, a scientific work of art. Able to block an internet connection through remote license with a built in tracking chip, he would see her wherever she went.

"When your cast comes off, the other one goes on. For now, I'll hold onto it." He closed the box after fastening the lock on the band, placing the little box into his pocket with care. She was carefully looking over the metal bracelet like it might electrocute her, something that pulled at his heart strings. So similar to Natasha any time someone gave her something to keep. He wondered if that was the first thing she'd gotten from someone else that wasn't to be used for a mission, but then remembered he hadn't actually given her anything. The bracelet was SHIELD property and she wouldn't be allowed to keep it. In fact, she'd probably be more than ready to take the thing off by the time he came around to pick it up. That was, if she didn't cut her hand off to get it off first.

"Welcome to SHIELD, Katya Barnes."
