AN: (Runs inside of bunker) Hey… how's it going? It's been a while and I apologize for several reasons. I've had tech problems, more tech problems, and a slight bit of writer's block. I actually had to have Vala help me sort out something I wanted to do in this chap but ultimately decided to probably do next chap. It's a bit of a bombshell for poor old hiccup so look for that. Anyways I've made everyone wait for long enough, go read, have fun! (Locks bunker door and activates magical ward)
The wind did a little more than pick up, it decided to bring as much snow as possible almost as if the weather was against us going to the nest. The two of us had been flying for well over the amount of time we expected to be in the air. Mom and I had to almost be flying on top of each other so we didn't lose one another.
"Do you know how much longer it'll be!?" I called down underneath me to her. She didn't seem to hear me so I shouted it again but louder. She looked up at me and put her hands up in an "I don't know" gesture before pointing to the ground. I nodded back, we couldn't keep going on like this. As she descended Toothless stayed right on her tail as we followed. A gust of wind from our right caused Toothless to flip. I let out a short scream as I started to fall.
"Hiccup!" Toothless shouted as I started to fall. My reflexes kicked is as I grabbed the saddle with my right hand barely getting it in the nick of time. With one hand secure on the saddle I pulled myself back on with my other hand before swinging legs back over.
'Are you alright?!' She asked worried over our link.
'I'll be fine Tooth just try to keep up with mom and Cloudju… where did they go?' I asked not seeing anything in sight. We both began to look around but couldn't find any sign of the four winged dragon or my mother.
'Toothless, we should probably land. We can find them when it gets nicer.' I told her as I rubbed my hands together and breathed into them trying to get blood flow back into them. She let out a loud roar startling me.
'What was that for?' I asked tucking one hand in my pant sas it was the warmest place I could get to while using the other to stay on. She all of a sudden shot to the right causing me to recall my hand and grab the saddle with both hands. A large pillar of ice passed us narrowly missing us.
'That, was echolocation. Haven't I told you about that?' She asked curiously taking a quick back back up at me. I shook my head not even know what that meant. She let out 'huh' before another roar before beginning a decent.
'This may be hard to comprehend but to make it simple, I can see where the sound from my roar bounces back.' She said before we came to a halt. I didn't even realize that the ground was under us until I looked down.
"Wait what? See with sound?" I asked realizing what she said not understanding how that would work. She looked as if she wanted to explain but we had a more pressing issue at the moment, where are we?
"Uh Hiccup… any chance you know anything about this area?" Toothless asked hopefully. I shook my head before warming my hands again by breathing in them and sticking them in my pants.
"I didn't even know this place existed but, we should find shelter before we freeze to death. We'll find them when it gets better." She nodded understandingly before grabbing me with her wing and bringing me close to her as well as blocking the wind
"Thanks. Um, do you think you could do that sound thing and maybe find us some kind of structure?" I asked as I made scales appear on my face, hands, and arms to warm me up a bit. She let a roar and I watched as her ear plates shifted.
"I think there's an area up ahead we could use, i'm not sure if its a full cave, I don't think so though. But it's hard to tell, the snow and wind is throwing off where the sound is coming back from, sorry." She said looking at me through the little gap between her and her wing.
"It's alright, it's more than what we had to work with before." I said before gesturing for her to continue to where she was talking about. Slowly we began to walk straight with her pressing me tightly against her side.
It was hard to get anywhere with the wind pushing us back as well as the snow drifts that accumulated everywhere with some being nearly as tall as me. Toothless stopped every now and then letting out a roar and shifting us in a new direction everytime saying she made a mistake. It felt like we were going on for almost an hour even though I knew I couldn't have been more than 15 minutes.
"T-toothless… are we getting c-close yet? My toes are starting to go numb." I told her through chattering teeth. Snow had gotten in my boots as we were going through the drifts and the scales didn't do too much to help sadly.
"I…I'm sorry Hiccup I can't find it I just, I swear it was just…" She stopped mid sentence before taking a few calming deep breaths and letting out another roar. I was beginning to fear the loss of some toes at this point, at least it will be vikingly and "toughen me up".
"That's it, I we're almost there I'm sure of it." She said confidently speeding up a bit. I have complete confidence in Toothless's skills and would follow her no matter what she said. But It was hard to keep up with her increased pace due to not being able to balance properly. After about a minute I could see a silhouette of a hill or something coming into view.
"There, come on Hiccup." She said speeding up even more. I couldn't keep up and slipped down her side into the snow below. She immediately stopped and partially scooped me up with her wind pushing me up against her once more.
As the side of the hill cleared up I could tell she was right about one thing, it was only just barely a cave. It was about eight feet deep and about five and a half tall. But there wasn't snow in it due to an overhang above it. She could barely fit due to it being a bit narrow but just could.
"Take off your boots, now." She commanded as soon as we were lying down. I didn't need to be told twice as I was taking them off before she said anything tossing them a couple feet from me. I brought my scale covered hands up to my mouth and sprayed a little nightmare flame in them due to its adhesive characteristics and brought them to my feet letting out a sigh as warmth filled them.
"That won't last forever, you can put your feet under my belly once you are done." She told me. I nodded as the flame died out seconds later and did just as she suggested.
"Thank you Tooth, you did a good job." I said pushing myself as physically close to her as I could without fusing myself to her. She shook her head side to side in a disapproving way, almost shameful.
"No I didn't and I'm sorry. I got us all turned around and you were freezing and…" I decided to cut her off before she could continue with by pushing myself up and kissing her. As I pulled away and looked at her she looked as if I'd broke her.
"It's fine Tooth, don't stress yourself out about the little things. We're already stressed out enough the way it is." I told her scratching under her chin lightly. She snapped out of her shocked state and blinked a couple of times.
"Ya… ok… sorry." She muttered looking away from me again. I shifted so I could get my hand on her cheek.
"Don't be, you don't need to be sorry for anything. You've been there one hundred percent of the times I've needed you and you have yet to fail any task you put yourself to." I told her reassuringly while making her look at me. She smiled a little before giving me a lick on the cheek.
"Thank you I just… I have been stressed out and this weather isn't helping." She said bitterly looking outside "But we made it, and tomorrow we'll find your mother and Cloudjumper before making our way to the nest." She said before looking back at me.
"Ok then, I'm going to sleep... but I don't know how to dry my boots." I said muttering the last part I thought about it but couldn't think of anything "Tooth, any ideas on how to dry my boots? I Can't wear wet ones in the morning."
"Well… I could stay up and keep a little flame under them?" She offered before looking over at the discarded footwear.
"No, I'm not having you stay up in order to dry MY boots. I'll do it." I told her about to grab them but she grabbed me and pulled me back into her before I could get anywhere.
"No you will not mister. You're freezing to death, I can actually see black rings under your eyes which I assume isn't good for a human, and I'm not tired from the recent action. So if you're getting those boots you better be putting them right in front of me." She said holding me tightly against her. I struggled against her but knew I wasn't going to win this fight.
"Fine… but if you get tired or worn out promise me you'll wake me?" She nodded her head before letting me grab the boots. I set them up on a rock aiming the insides towards Toothless.
"Wow, your feet really stink." She said recoiling as she got to close.
"Still want to stay up and dry them?" I asked with a small smirk playing at the edge of my lips. She let out a short laugh.
"You wish smelly." She teased. I rolled my eyes and she lightly wrapped her wing around me more securely "Get some sleep Hic, we'll pick back up in the morning." I nodded before a yawn betrayed my tiredness.
I had to shift around a bit but eventually I was able to get comfortable and closed my eyes.
oOo
"Hiccup… hey come on it's time to get up the storm is finally over." I had to quickly rub the crust out of my eyes before I could open them. As they did open I hissed at the bright white world outside.
"Too bright." I murmured trying to get used to it. Something hit me in the chest and I looked down to see my boots.
"Well get used to it because we're leaving." I grumbled as I slipped both of them on and rubbing my eyes once more for good measure. It was still a little chilly but I was getting used to it quickly.
"How long was I asleep? Better yet, how long did you sleep?" I asked as we stepped out of the little cave. Snow was well over a foot deep but I made sure my pant legs was over my boots.
"No idea how long, but I only stayed up for about an hour." She said gesturing for me to get on her back. I was quick to get on and try and find mom. She took off slowly and I'm glad she did as my fingers were the coldest part on me making it hard to grip anything.
"I figure one of two things, your mother is either in a cave somewhere herself or out flying doing the same as us." Toothless said as we got high enough to be above the few trees there was. I agreed with her as we began searching. Before we got far I noticed something.
"Hey, when we were flying through the storm didn't we dodge that piller over there?" I asked pointing out a large Ice piller jutting out of the ground. She turned us in that direction knowing that it was a solid start. It was a lot bigger than what I thought it would be but there wasn't any kind of cave or area that they could have gotten out of the snow so we moved on.
Toothless decided that they probably were around where we hunkered down and began to search once more. We knew they couldn't be far considering that she was going to land close to where I almost had a nice fall.
"Hey, does that look like something to you?" She said pointing her head down at a cave entrance. Squinting my eyes in order to block out the rest of the snow filled ground I could see movement and told her to go down. As we neared the cave I let out a sigh of relief seeing Cloudjumper's wings spread out.
"Cloudjumper, is mom inside?" I called out to him as we touched down. His ears perked up as he turned his head to look back at us.
"Hiccup?" He said looking at me as if he wasn't expecting me. He let out a nervous sounding chuckle once he realized I was actually there "We may have a problem on our hands. Last night was a bit rough on your mother."
Now I was confused but before I could speak he lowered his wings allowing the inside of the cave to be shown. I looked back at Toothless before heading inside. As we entered I noticed mom sitting next to a small fire with a small blanket we packed around her shoulders.
"Hey Hiccup." She said sounding as if she ate some nails would be an accurate description of how scratchy her voice sounded. I also noted the constant sniffling. She must have been in the cold too long and gotten the flu.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked knowing very well how she was feeling.
"Oh I'm doing fine this is nothing. We should head on out once you are ready." She said starting to stand up. I grabbed her shoulders and gently pushed her back down where she was sitting.
"You aren't going anywhere, you look like you're ready to die." I told her taking a seat across from her waiting for the argument. I won't lie the flu is scary, it's killed many men, women, and children every year.
"Hiccup, do you really think this is a good spot for me to rest?" She said gesturing around herself "Besides we need to talk to the king, I can rest up at my old home as you go speak with him." She said before sniffling even more and wiping her nose on her sleeve.
"Cloudjumper what do you think, does she stay or go?" I said turning back to the only one in the room who actually knows if she could handle the trip.
"I… agree with her sorry, but she has medicine, a bed, fire, and you really do need to talk with the white king." He said slowly almost as if he's talking to someone ready to explode. I honestly didn't expect that answer but I nodded, if he felt that way we would do it after all no one else probably knows my mother better than Cloudjumper.
"Ok Cloudjumper says that you can handle the trip. But you're going to have more clothes and blankets than a bear has fur." I told her sternly reversing the mother roll back onto her.
"Look who's a mother goose now." Toothless commented voicing my very thoughts. I ignored her comment for the moment as I went over to Cloudjumper who had basically all of our stuff on him. Opening up a bag I pulled out another blanket and some gloves.
"Here, with all of this on you shouldn't get too cold." I said walking back to her and tossing her the gloves. The murmured a 'thank you' before blowing her nose into a little piece of cloth and standing up.
"We may as well leave now, i'm not getting any better." She said walking over to Cloudjumper. Once she was up on the saddle I wrapped the blanket she had and the one I had around her as tightly as I could while still leaving space to hold on.
"If for any reason you feel like you can't keep going just land. Toothless and I will follow you two so go at your own pace." I told them before following them outside and jumping on Toothless's back. They took off and we followed closely once more making our way to the nest.
oOo
1 Hour later
oOo
"There she is… the nest." Mom said below me looking up at me with a smile. To me it looked like a large glacier but the occasional dragon flying in and out of caves on the sides told me otherwise. As we got close they lead us to a little tunnel about halfway up the structure.
We continued to follow them through the narrow ice passages which steadily went downwards. After about a minute they stopped and landed. I looked around not seeing anything special about the spot.
"Are we here?" I called over to them. She turned slowly around and nodded.
"This is it, come here will you?" I jumped off Toothless and walked over to them. She pointed over at what looked like an entrance. I helped her off Cloudjumper before we went inside. It wasn't anything glorious but it was cozy with a little fire place, kitchen, and a seperate room which I assume is her bedroom.
"It's not much but… this is home to me. Or at least it was." She said getting quieter with the last part. I pulled the few things we brought off of Cloudjumper setting it all down on one of the two chairs she had around the fire.
"Where's the medicine you were talking about?" I asked her once I set it all down.
"It's in my room, you go find the king. You can't exactly miss him." She said with a small chuckle before coughing several times "Don't worry about me Hiccup I've been sick before, you go do what we came here for."
"Cloudjumper if anything happens come find me immediately please?" I asked him which told me he would. I turned to the door and took a few steps towards it until I sheepishly turned around "Um… which direction do I go?" I asked.
"Take a right and then a left when the tunnel forks, it'll lead you to the main area." Cloudjumper told me before following mom back into her room where I could hear cupboards opening. I gestured Toothless to follow me out.
"How do you think this king is anyways? I know mom and Cloudjumper praise him for being amazing and all but how do you think he really is?" I asked Toothless as we took a right out of the door.
"I don't know, but it can't be anything bad considering all the things your mom said he's done." She said logically. I stayed silent trying to come up with something to say, how is it I never thought about what I should say/
"Which way did Cloudjumper say?" Toothless asked pulling me from my thoughts. I looked up to see the fork in the tunnel.
"He said left should bring us to the main area." I told her going to the left. After several seconds I looked at Toothless "Hey Tooth… what am I going to ask when we get there?" I asked her not being able to come up with something on my own.
"Well… honestly just tell him the truth and our situation. I mean, what else could we say?" She said making me think about her logic and not being able to argue with it.
"I hope that's enough, I don't think we could fight a literal dragon army, another volkin (who may be crazy), and Drago all by ourselves. That, and our new 'allies' may just stab us is the back." I let out a sigh before rubbing my eyes with both hands.
"Don't worry so much Hic, just… worry about what's happening right now ok?" I didn't respond as all my worries were starting to creep up in my mind. "Whoa… this is amazing." I didn't realize that she was already ahead of me. I quickly caught up with her and sucked in a breath at the sight.
"Whoa…" Dragons were everywhere and of every species that I could think of and more. In the middle was a large pool of water with grass and icy areas around it. But, I did not see any obvious sign of the king around.
"Hmm, think he's out or something?" Toothless said voicing my thoughts. I shrugged having no idea where a mountain sized dragon could disappear off to. Before we could go in search of him we had a slight hindrance occur as Toothless let out a slight yelp while jumping forward curling her tail in. I looked behind us to see the cutest of things, baby dragons.
"Aren't you guys the cutest." I said as one came up and started going between my legs throwing me on my butt. Toothless let out a little giggle before one landed on her back and started gnawing on her wings. I got back up and got the one off of her back placing it on the ground with the other one. Before we could get away another small group appeared.
"MAMA!" They started shouted before flying into my chest pinning me back to the ground licking my face.
"Gah, Tooth… help!" I cried out in laughter. She was laughing at my situation causing a couple of them to look at her.
"DADDY!" They shouted looking at her.
"Wait I'm not a mal…" She started but half of them shot over to her and began using her like a playground before she could finish. This continued on for several minutes before they got bored with us and left abruptly. I was lying on the ground breathing hard from laughter and the dodging of tongues. Toothless walked over and stared down at me.
"Are human kids nearly as chaotic?" She asked me while using her paw to get goober off of her forehead.
"Considering humans can't fly, breath fire, or have a tongue that's over a foot long? No I don't think they are." I told her still not moving from my lying position. She grabbed my shirt with her mouth and pulled me to my feet.
"Ew, why do dragons have such slimy spit?" I said noticing the vile stuff on my armor. She chuckled before going slowly going silent and looking out at the little group that left us playing in a grassy zone. She continued to stare and her face was deep in thought. I placed my hand on her.
"Tooth, you alright?" I asked noticing the look on her face changing. She blinked a few times and glanced over at me.
"Ya I just… I...ya." She said looking back over at them. I looked as well for a few seconds and decided to not push it. Both of us shifted our eyes down to the water as it began to bubble and swirl. Slowly a large white head came out with water pouring down his face and came eye level to us with two light blue eyes narrowed looking directly at us.
"I think we found the king."
Daewon- gracious god
AN:
Vala: (Pokes head out of portal) "Hiya"
(dragon1010 trying to shove intruder back) "What are you doing here?!"
Vala: "I got bored"
Dragon: "Can't you get bored somewhere else?"
Vala: (Picks up a baby Triple stryke) "What's the fun in that?"
Dragon: "PUT THE BABY DOWN!"
Vala: "Be he's so cute!"
Dragon: "If the momma dragon finds you with her kid!"
Vala: (Hands baby dragon to Dragon) "Here you go!"
Dragon: "That was easy. Way too easy."
Vala: (Innocent whistle)
Dragon: "Momma dragon is standing right behind me isn't she?"
Vala: (nods and grabs popcorn)
(A chase ensues between an angry momma dragon and TheDragon1010)
Dragon: "Valaa!"
Vala (to readers): "Enjoy! I'll pop back in to torment him!"
(The chase is still ongoing)
AN: (Throws out Vala and steps out of this realm away from dragon) Ok so, this took me a bit but it's good right? I dunno, I felt like this was the right path to take in this situation. I had fun with the baby dragons, little credit to vala for the idea of momma and daddy, hehe. Can't really think of any other big news so… on to the reviews.
bob19h- I do think the idea's good but I think Toothless knows he loves her with all of his heart. That and she's already seen him kissed by Astrid. As well as he told Astrid he's with someone.
Shadows Rise From The Tides- Ya I wouldn't trust Alvin off the bat so that's how I wrote it. Also it was a bit rushed I can definitely tell now.
Guest- You see I write in a way that I write everything at once and later come in for edits if it seems too absurd or grammer. So that would be hard for me to do.
Kreivan Reyhers- Thank you, I hope I can keep kicking out quality chapters.
Inuyasha16451- Thanks, I'm trying to update quick but either writers block hits or tech kills my computer and keyboard
Viper4K- I'm not even sure of the ending yet to be honest
ArthurShade- Good to hear I hope to keep it interesting
SyusOnix- I'm happy it isn't getting to be a drag
RedHawkDude- Good, I plan on keeping it that way
Astewart01- I was aiming for my own unique story so that's good, but it does need to be tended to in certain parts. That, and now I know of all the things I could have done differently but can't now sadly.
7sky- Ok I did figure that it was getting dull here because I rushed the crap out of it BUT, I'm trying to slow down and give more detail. I hope anyways.
tefe203- Ok so… this is a topic that I am struggling with myself on how to write and you could be right or wrong I'M not even sure yet. It could go a million different directions.
Guest- Not sure yet if I will allow him to turn into a dragon yet, still debating with myself.
Raphx240 (guest)- Here you go, took a bit but I got it.
AndJrew76- Happy you think so
Raphaelmartel03- Here you go
Ohia808- I like writing a little fluff, it's fun to do.
Wow, that was a lot of reviews thanks everyone! I plan on working on Dragon Warrior soon as well but to write that I need to watch the ROB episodes so it's a little harder to write. But hopefully you all found this entertaining and until next time I hope you all enjoyed!
You took the time to read this; you can take the time to review
