Chapter 14-

Previous: After a few hours it was time to pick up Ziza. I heard the crash of metal upon metal overhead and Lajjun gripped Ziza tighter and I knew that it would only be a matter of hours before I came into contact with Riddick again. And my stomach twisted.

And Now:

I wanted to pace. The anxiety in my stomach was making me feel ill and grumpy. I believed that I was holding it in fairly well, as I kept Ziza company. She had these little wooden figures of creatures that I had never seen before. She also had dolls and little puzzles that she really liked.

Lajjun popped her head into the room with a small smile. "I am going to take a shower. Play nice Ziza!"

She turned back to her mother and nodded and smiled. I pointed over to her wooden creatures, "Would you tell me about those?"

Ziza smiled, "YES! These are my favorite, one of the ladies from the market learned that I like a popular show that teaches about different planet's creatures! She carved them all for me by hand." She picked up something that reminded me of the Loch Ness Monster and gently took my wrist to let me run my hand along it's back's spines and scales. "This one lives in deep lakes. It leaps upon its prey, which includes other monsters of the same type, monstrous humanoids, and other predators. It attacks with spines and a hypnotic song." Ziza then tried to sing the song to me a deep grunting hum that made me snort, " They travel alone. and experts think that they migrate every once in a long while to a place no one has found…"

"ooo," I said with a smiled, "How mysterious." I looked over and saw a large, beetle like creature that had symbols carved up and down it's back, " What about this guy?"

Ziza gently took him to from me and explained while she flipped him over and over in her hands, "This one lives in Mountain Passages. It likes to blend in with the mountains to stalks its prey." She pointed to a few stingers that were attached to it's legs and said, "It attacks with strangling grabs, and one sting can kill a grown mad in seconds."

I made a face, "Ouch, yeah, I'd avoid him easily." I saw one that looked like a horse, " This one looks more my speed," I picked it up and saw that it had vines growing from it's eight cloven hooves all the way up to it's pointed ears. It also had four eyes, and pointed teeth sticking out of it's lips.

Liza nodded, "I like that one too. It like to live on the outskirts of cities. It's vines can produce this stinky fumes that can disorient their prey, and they like to crush their prey with their feet. They mainly eat small things, like birds or rodents. But it doesn't like a certain tree that grows on it's planet because the tree likes to try and take it's vines away, so the locals will grow the trees around with cities and towns."

I nodded, "That's smart of them," I pointed to the next three little toys, "How about these guys? What about them?" Ziza picked one up and showed it to me, but then I sensed someone outside the door, and turned sharply. Ziza noticed this and tensed. I shushed her and pointed to her desk, she went over to it and I let her hide under it before I went and stood on her chair. The presence passed the room, and I let out the breath I knew I had been holding. I gently coaxed Ziza out from underneath her desk and took her into her closet, I sat her down on the floor and whispered, "Don't move from here alright? Something is going on and I want you to stay safe."

Ziza looked up at me with wide eyes and nodded. She probably wouldn't stay, of that I was sure. But, it didn't hurt to try. I quietly opened the door and made my way to the living area and the little balcony area that looked over it. I could sense Riddick, he was on the first floor, and I spotted Abu on the stairs and I kept myself in the shadowland around the corner. I heard Riddick's voice first as I watched Abu move out of my sight, "Five years ago, I took two people off that planet... A kid, Jack, who everyone else thought was a boy, ; and a holy man… searching for New Mecca." Abu must have looked up towards his bedroom with Lajjun because riddick rumbled out, "Your wife… She's in the shower." I hadn't even realized he had check the whole house yet. And I felt something deep within me str, it made my stomach twist painfully, I thought it was a protective instinct but as Riddick kept talking it got worse. "I told one man...where I might go. I showed trust to one man. Did I make a mistake, Imam?" A smile appeared on my face at the smile in Riddick's voice, upon realization that he was making a threat I felt vaguely horrified about this.

"There is no simple answer," Abu started, but was stopped by Riddick's blade I slowly left my hiding spot as I noticed Ziza creeping down the hallway, and I shadowed her but remained out of Riddick's line of sight. Abu continued on, "Whatever was said was meant to give us a chance...a fighting chance. Were it not for the threat of invasion, I never would have betrayed you. I give you my word, Riddick."

" Riddick!" Ziza squeaked excitedly, standing up and walking towards the stairs, that was when Lajjun walked out from her shower and she noticed the predator that was standing so close to her husband.

" Riddick!" She gasped, the fear very apparent in her body language as she froze up.

Riddick stared down Ziza, "And a daughter…" Ziza moved closer and he moved towards the stairs. I held my breath, hoping that he wouldn't harm her.

" No!" Lajjun squeaked and she reached for her daughter, halting her before she could walk down the stairs towards Riddick.

"Whose name would be…" Riddick purred, a small smirk on his face. Like a lion promising something to a lamb.

Abu tried to keep Riddick's focus off of his family and on himself, "If you have issue with me, you let it be with me. You need not know their names."

Ziza squared her jaw and looked up at Riddick with such a trusting look it hurt my own heart, "Ziza." Ziza said with a tiny smile and Abu looked like he was going to have a stroke or ulcer, "My name is Ziza."

Riddick nodded, "Ziza," Then he nodded his head over at Abu, "Cute kid. I heard someone playing with a Babysitter, was that you?"

Ziza crinkled her nose in confusion, and she shook her head, but asked a apparently more pressing question, "Did you really kill monsters? The ones that were gonna hurt my father?"

Riddick shot a questioning smirk over at Abu who simply shrugged and tried not to look like he was slightly panic or constipated, " Such are our bedtime stories."

Lajjun lightly pushed her daughter, "Go, Ziza." She said her voice now strong, Ziza resisted slightly but she reaffirmed her stance with a slightly bigger push, "Go on!" Lajjun looked down to her husband as Ziza left the room, probably hoping it wouldn't be the last time she saw him alive again.

"say hi to your friend for me," Riddick calmly said as he leaned away from the stairs, and I felt entirely confident that he wouldn't be going after either of Abu's family members and now it would be a perfect time to reveal myself, so what the hell?

"Now if I remember correctly," I smirked and came out of the shadows near the middle of the hallway, "I believe that I was your friend first Riddick."

Roddick looked up to me in surprise, something that was not a common emotion for him, I'm sure. "Leo…?" He asked and I blinked as I saw his breath hitch in his throat. Surely that wasn't something… normal for him. I started down in the stairs in concern and he stepped away from me as I had.

"It's me," I promised him, but that didn't seem to mollify him as he stared at me with cold mistrust that made my heart twist.
