Separate Paths Pt. 2

Edward's POV

I called Isabella's number, and came up with an answering machine. Something I didn't want to hear.

"Isabella Swan's office is closed at this time. Her office will reopen March 31st at nine a.m."

I groaned. Just what I wanted to hear, I had to wait two weeks to get a hold of divorce lawyer, when Tanya was going to be here in a few days.

When looking back at the ad, I saw anther number was listed, a possible personal number. I dialed the number, and it rang and rang.

"Isabella Swan speaking," she said.

"Hello! My name is Edward Cullen, and I have learned you are one of the best divorce lawyers in the business," I said.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you Mr. Cullen, but I am currently out of office for the next few weeks and won't be able to help you," she said.

"Yes I understand that Isabella, but this is urgent. If I don't have this divorce finalized soon, I'm going to lose my daughter," I said.

"Mr. Cullen—"she started.

"Ms. Swan, haven't you ever had a child?"

She was silent.

"No I have not Mr. Cullen, but I still cannot help you on my time off," she said.

"Just so I know, how much is your rate an hour?" I asked.

"Around a hundred dollars an hour Mr. Cullen," she said.

"If you help me Ms. Swan, I will triple what I pay you. I have the money to spare," I said.

"I cannot do this to you Mr. Cullen," she said.

"It's not a problem Ms. Swan, I need this help. I would like to keep my daughter, and even ruin my marriage in any way possible," I said.

"Could you meet me at the Starbucks on 3rd and West in twenty minutes?" she asked.

I looked at my watch, the Starbucks was close to thirty minutes away.

"Of course," I said.

"I will meet you there. I am wearing a red pea coat," she said.

"Thank you Ms. Swan," I said.

I hung up the phone and grabbed my jacket, rushing out the door.

"Daddy?"

I turned around to see my girl, Amelia.

"Baby, would you like to come to Starbucks with daddy?" I asked.

Her eyes lit up, even at age four, she loved Starbucks. As my brother always said, she's a typical "white girl".

"Get on your coat, sweetheart," I said.

She rushed off to get on her coat, and I chuckled.

I went out to the car, and saw Amelia already trying to open the door, but she seemed to short.

I opened the door for her, and she looked up at me with a toothy smile. I buckled her into her car seat, and shut her door.

I got in the driver's seat, and we were off.

Since I was behind already, I was speeding, and trying not to get caught by the cops. Doing 65 in a 50, is pretty cautious, but I was never caught.

When I pulled into the parking lot, I saw Amelia put her hands and face on the window, looking at her favorite place.

I parked the car, and got Amelia out of her car seat, and before I knew it, Amelia was pushing me toward the doors.

When inside, I started to look if Isabella was here yet, to see she was not. I sighed in relief, I wasn't late. After getting Amelia a small hot chocolate with extra whipped cream, I sat us at a three person table.

I waited a good seven minutes, before the doorbell rang, and someone came in. When I looked around, I saw Isabella in her red pea coat.

She looked around, and her eyes landed on me, I held up my hand and she walked my way. I looked over at Amelia and saw she had whipped cream all over her face.

"Amelia Cullen!" I said grabbing a bunch of napkins.

She giggled and tried to push away the napkins from her face, trying to eat the whipped cream from her face.

"Amelia Elizabeth Cullen, stop pushing me away," I said.

She stopped pushing me away, and I watched as Isabella bought herself a coffee and came our way.

I finally got Amelia's face clear, and she giggled still sipping.

"Mr. Cullen?"

I looked at her, and she smiled at me.

"Isabella Swan," she said.

"Edward Cullen," I said holding out my hand.

She smiled and shook my hand before sitting down.

"Your daughter I presume?" she asked.

"Yes, this is Amelia." I said.

Amelia looked up at the sound of her name, and for once her face wasn't covered in sugar.

"Hi Amelia," Isabella said.

"Hi." Amelia said.

Isabella turned back to me and opened her bag.

"So Mr. Cullen—" she said.

"Edward please," I said.

"So Edward, your wife…." She said.

"Tanya," I said.

"Tanya Cullen, how long has your divorce been started?" she asked.

"At least a year. Whenever she is around, and I try to get her to sign the papers, she disappears from the country," I said.

She scribbled some notes down, and she asked more questions.

"Where is Tanya now?" she asked.

"London as far as I know. She's coming back because she wants to take Amelia away from me," I said.

Isabella looked at Amelia.

"Amelia do you want to live with your mommy?" Isabella asked.

Amelia shook her head.

"She loves Tanya like crazy, but Tanya is not mother material," I said.

"Has Tanya ever been around Amelia long enough to know her daughter?" she asked.

"Not since she was a baby," I said.

She scribbled some more, and I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

I pulled it out, and saw it was Alice.

"I'm sorry, I need to take this," I said.

She nodded and I walked off, taking the call.

"Alice, what's up?" I asked.

"Emmett told me you were meeting a lawyer, and I went home and dad gave me some more of his files," she said.

"Alice I'm not going to need them with a lawyer. She should know everything," I said.

"Yes, but how long has she been a lawyer? Dad was a lawyer for thirty five years," she said.

"Yes but—" I said.

"I will come and meet you and give you the papers and take Amelia clothes shopping for school again. It will be easier on you," she said.

"Alice—" I said.

"Where are you?" she asked.

I sighed, there was no way I was getting off this phone call without telling Alice where I was.

"Starbucks on 3rd and West," I said.

She squealed.

"I'm right around the corner. I'll be there in five minutes!" she said.

Before I could speak, she hung up on me.

I groaned and walked back over to Isabella, and Amelia.

Amelia was giggling, and I smiled.

"Amelia, Aunt Alice is coming to get you, and you two are going to go shopping," I said.

She smiled, and I was happy that she was happy.

It would be easier on me with talking to Isabella about the divorce, and not having Amelia repeat stuff to her aunt.

I heard the ring and looked back to see my baby sister skip in.

She came over to me and handed me papers, hugging me.

She let go of me, and hugged Amelia.

"Alice Cullen. Nice to meet you," Alice said to Isabella.

"Isabella Swan," Isabella said.

Her eyes lit up.

"I know you. You have ad's everywhere don't you?" she asked.

Isabella nodded.

"That's so cool. Well I'm going to take my niece shopping. Good luck bro," Alice said.

She picked up Amelia and they were off.

I immediately sat back down and put the papers in the middle.

"Let's get talking then," I said.

"Let's."
