When the light died down, the first thing Adela saw was her hand. Her vision was in a blur, but she noticed something different about her hand that didn't look as white and skeletal as before...
"Ms. Adela!" Sasha's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
She turned around... and her eyes widened so as the smile on her face;
Her family and friends who died in the hands of Tezcatlipoca were revived back into their living, full flesh and blood forms. Including her!
Theresa and Ricardo hugged their daughter in joy and relief. The other deceased Sanchezes joined in the hug.
"I'm still not done with you, Senorita." Rosa glared at a wide-eyed Theresa.
"Adela!" A familiar voice called.
"Julio?" Adela broke free from her family's embraced and rushed towards Julio, smiling in his embrace. Although, there was something weird about his arms being too, rough and muscly...
Rodolpho chuckled nervously as he was being hugged by Adela, but not as much as her cousin who was being hugged by his cousin. The two swapped glasses before placing them on their respective owners.
When their visions were restored, Adela and Julio awkwardly broke free and hugged each other with Julio twirling Adela around. The Book of Life circled around them, happily flapping its pages.
Cocoa oinked in delight after regaining his living pig form while Clara happily tackled him before licking him. Their owners chuckled in amusement before Adela approached the Ortiz Brothers who were busy watching the now humanoid Snake siblings still hugging each other.
"What?" Miguel asked as Adela flashed a sly smile at them, "Everyone deserves a happy ending."
"Even the antagonists." Juan added.
Suddenly, Adela punched both brothers on the arm, "Must you guys ruin my fun every time? Do you even realize how long I have to write this transcript of complaints for every goofs you memos ever commit along with paybacks? And just when I can finally spazz it all out on you doofuses, you started lecturing a bunch of godly siblings about the importance of family and forgiveness, and... AND..."
Everyone hid, thinking she might explode.
"About time, you idiotas." She finished calmly, much to the relief of everyone.
Clavel grabbed the list of transcript and briefly read it, "When did you add the rampaging giant bull?"
"Sorry, Tori." Adela apologized to the Bull who stopped sharpening his horns and snorted in disappointment.
As the Snake siblings broke apart, Tezcatlipoca felt something heavy on her bank. She turned around, only for her eyes to widen in surprise; Her wings were back!
They were bigger and better than ever. Black, white and gray feathers set in elaborate patterns. She flapped them and was lifted into the sky. Quetzalcoatl smiled and joined her in a joyous flight.
"So," Their moment was interrupted by Juan, "we're cool now?"
Tezcatlipoca frowned a bit, before flashing a smile, "Yeah. We're cool."
Everyone cheered. The Snake siblings were sandwiched in a group hug by their fellow deities.
Suddenly, the Candlemaker felt a cold presence hugging. To his dismay, it was Xibalba, smiling happily, "Not again!"
"You just want to mess with him, do you?" La Muerte whispered, only to be silenced by her husband.
"Whoo! Yeah! Everyone's happy!" The Mayor cried. Somehow, everyone stopped cheering and gave him cold stares, mostly Clavel.
"You seriously couldn't take a hint that I was afraid of snakes?" She asked coldly, causing him to stammer, "And you couldn't give me a normal gift that wasn't ancient and that probably contained an ancient powerful goddess who was locked up for centuries and whose freedom would cause the end of the world as we know it?"
"Well... Everything went well, right?" He smiled sheepishly.
Wrong answer. Evident by how Clavel punched him into the fountain. Surprisingly, everyone cheered in delight.
"Let's say we wrap up this story, Nieta." Angelo smiled as he wrapped his arms around Julio and Adela.
Julio and Adela stood side-by-side beneath an arch of flowers in front of the audience consisting of their friends and family. The reception was held in front of the museum that was miraculously restored by the Book of Life. Finally, it was the moment they all have been waiting for...
"It is with great honor that we witness the union between two souls bounded by fate, and whose Love knows no boundaries." Quetzalcoatl spoke, "If there are those who wishes to speak their objections, speak now, or forever hold until death."
Noone did... Except the Ortiz brothers who had a sword thrown in their direction.
"They're so young!" Both cried.
"Then by the power vested in us,"Quetzalcoatl continued.
"And in the Book of LIfe." Tezacatlipoca added, "We now pronounce you,"
"Boar, and Sow." Quetzalcoatl finished, "You may now kiss the Groom."
Clara grabbed Cocoa and dipped him before kissing him. Their owners shed tears of joy as everyone roared in applause.
"She's going to be a great Sanchez." Carisa oinked as Chuy sheds a tears.
High above the museum, the kids showered the newly-wedded pigs with flower petals.
"What?" Sanjay asked the readers, "They just met."
"Plus not all stories are perfect." Jane added.
The gods sighed amorously as they watched Adela and Julio gazing into each others' eyes.
"I give them until next year." Xibalba said.
"It could happen in two." La Muerte countered.
"Oh no!" Ehecatl protested, "I am never betting ever again."
"Me either." Xochi agreed.
Suddenly, Clara threw her bouquet in the air, causing the two gods to fight over who will catch it first. To their dismay, they both caught it in the same time. Disgusted, they threw it back into the air, only to be caught by Clavel who fell into the arms of Rodolpho. Both blushed deeply.
"And today," The Candlemaker said.
"Was a good day," La Muerte added, only to be dipped by her husband.
"Of the Dead." Xibalba finished before kissing her, causing fireworks to shoot from her sombrero to the sky.
Adela held her great-grandfather's guitar in her arms, strumming it. Just when she was about to sing, someone else grabbed it.
"Hadn't had your turn too many?" Julio cocked a sly eyebrow.
"Oh. And you can do better?" Adela grinned.
Grinning back in return, Julio skillfully strummed the guitar and began singing a tune that surprised everyone to the point of making the girls faint. He tossed the guitar to Goth Kid before pulling Adela in a dance with everyone joining in the fun.
Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca watched the scene with smiles before turning into their winged-snake forms and flying into the sky where they formed into a heart.
The Book of Life closes, awaiting the new adventure to be told.
I just love the ending Music in the original Book of Life Movie. I was thinking on a modern version for this story with additional lyrics and such. Use your imagination and listen to your heart.
Also, I also want to mention the order of partners Adela and Julio danced with;
Adela - Sanjay, Quetzalcoatl, Xibalba, Ricardo, Angelo, Manolo, Julio.
Julio - Jane, Tezactlipoca, La Muerte, Theresa, Rosa, Maria, Adela.
So long everyone, and don't be afraid to tell your own stories.
