A/N: Good morning loyal readers! I am so sorry this hiatus has been so long, honestly I got so wrapped up in a SOA story I was working on I forgot this one was still ongoing. But never fear, here is the highly anticipated 4th chapter to our trilogy. Happy reading! ~ Savy
East and Main
The trucks screamed to a halt at the scene of the second bus explosion. Kelly has his phone glued to his ear as he got Dina's voicemail for what had to be the ninety-eighth time that morning. "Baby, when you get this call me back and whatever you do, do not get on that bus."
The men jumped out of the trucks and began to assess the situation.
"Did anyone make it off?" Chief asked a lowly officer that was working the scene.
"No, it went up as soon as it stopped," the man answered.
"Was there a woman with a baby on board?" Kelly asked screaming.
"Severide," Chief said backing him up. "You need to distance yourself. Go back to the station. You're too close to this to work the fire."
"No, Chief I need to be here. If Dina was on either of these busses then I have to know everything I can."
"Then wait over by the truck. You are not, under any circumstances, to work the fire. Do you understand?" Kelly just nodded. "Good," Chief said and turned back to the situation at hand. The rest of the men had the fire pretty well out now.
Kelly pulled out his phone again and again got Dina's voicemail. He ended the call and put his head in his hands. "Where are you babe?"
The men were packing up their things when the cop from earlier approached them.
"Can you tell us anything about who might have been inside?" Chief asked as everyone gathered around.
"It's very hard to tell due to the damage and charred bodies, but at this time we don't see any evidence of a woman and baby together on the bus."
Severide breathed a sigh of relief and people patted his back reassuringly.
"Hey officer," Hermann said coming forward. "Don't these buses have cameras that are instantly backed up to some other location?"
"Yes most of them, why?"
Hermann looked to Kelly. "Well then couldn't we check them and see which bus Dina got on?"
"I don't see why not, I'll make some calls," the officer said walking away.
Kelly jumped up and kissed Hermann's head. "Hermann you are the man. Next baby Severide will be named after you," he said running after the cop.
Bus Depot
"What do you mean the camera system is down?" Kelly asked almost yelling.
"I'm sorry sir but the backup system is down for maintenance today."
This is not happening to me," Kelly said slamming his hand down on the counter.
"If we learn anything about your wife, Mr. Severide, we will be sure to let you know."
"Thank you," he said hanging his head and walking out the door.
Firehouse 51
"What happened?" everyone asked at once as he walked back in the station.
"Apparently their system is down for maintenance. Nothing was backed up." Kelly sank onto one of the couches.
"That seems odd," Dawson said. "Their system goes down for maintenance on the exact day that these explosions start happening."
A similar look of understanding passed throughout the group. "It would seem odd," Hermann added.
Do-do. Engine 81, Truck 61, Squad 3. Bus explosion. 4th and Collins.
Everyone looked at each other. "Here we go again," Cruz said as everyone ran off to answer the call.
4th and Collins
This scene was identical to those before it. No survivors. No one made it off before the bus went up in flames. Again Kelly asked if Dina was on the bus and the preliminary report was no but they couldn't be sure.
As the last bit of smoke was dissipating over the charred remains a familiar white limo pulled up and Mr. Lewis got out.
"Busy day for you boys," he said knowingly sneering at the firemen.
"You son of a bitch," Kelly said starting to charge the man before Matt stepped in and help him back. "I swear to god, you hurt my wife I will kill you myself," Kelly yelled.
"Your wife?" Mr. Lewis asked cocking his head and then looking back at one of his guys who just nodded. "Why would we want anything to happen to your wife Lt…. Severide," he said reading Kelly's jacket.
"What are you doing here?" Chief asked Mr. Lewis. "This is a CFD scene."
"Just looking out for the community. Community outreach if you will," he said with his sneer again.
"Well I suggest you take your community outreach bullshit and go before I tell my man to stand down and Severide does something he'll regret."
"Whatever you say Chief," the man said heading back to the limo. "Oh and Severide," he called out. "You should take better care of your wife."
Firehouse 51
The trucks pulled back into the station and the guys headed to the common room. Kelly was still enraged and he sank into a chair.
"Hey man, she's going to be okay," Otis said.
"She better be," Kelly said standing up and pacing. "I can't believe this is happening again."
"It'll be okay," Hermann said.
"How do you know Hermann," Kelly asked turning and laying into him. "How can you possibly know that? Are you god? No. So you have no damn idea. So I appreciate the sentiment but everyone just shut the hell up."
Hermann looked over Kelly shoulder and then back and Kelly. "Uh Severide…."
"No Hermann, we just talked about this," he continued. "That is my wife out there in danger. We may have had some shit times recently but that is my damn wife and if anything happens to her I swear to god…"
"You swear to god what?" a voice behind them asked.
Kelly turned around to see Dina standing there with an amused smile on her face. He couldn't even speak, he just walked over to her and kissed her fiercely.
"Does someone want to tell me what the hell is going on?" Dina asked when he let her go.
