Chapter 5 finally! It's the longest one yet. Thank you for all the reviews so far and keep em coming! I hope you all enjoy this new chapter.
I don't own Teen Titans or the characters.
Terra woke up the next morning with a smile on her face. She had felt Beastboy's arms around her and had an incredible feeling of being loved and protected. She turned her head slightly upward to look into his sleeping face and noticed that he too had a look of contentment and happiness on his face as he slept. 'He never forgot me' she thought to herself, 'and he never gave up on me either. How could I ever have thought pushing him away was the right thing to do?' She decided it had just been another bad choice in a string of them she had made. She sighed and snuggled closer to him, vowing to never lose him again, whether she ended up living the normal life of a schoolgirl or a hero's life as a Teen Titan, she decided she would be with Beastboy no matter what. She closed her eyes and sighed again, holding him closer, and wishing they could just stay like this, laying here in each other's arms, for the rest of their lives.
Beastboy was roused from sleep by Terra's movements. He quietly watched her adjust her position against him, smiling to himself. He was so happy to have her close to him again and vowed to himself that he'd never lose her again, no matter what it takes. He kissed the top of her head and smiled as it turned toward him and he was looking at her face and those beautiful sparkling blue eyes he loved so much.
"Morning," he said to her cheerily.
"Hey," she replied and leaned her face a bit closer, and closing her eyes slightly. Beastboy happily obliged her and they shared a quick kiss.
"How did you sleep?" he asked her when the kiss broke.
"Better than I ever have in my entire life" she replied, "really."
"Yeah, I think I did too." he said with a goofy grin "Are you hungry?"
"Starving," she replied "but I really just wanna stay like this. Do you think Cyborg would bring us up something?"
"Ha, fat chance of that ever happening," Beastboy laughed. "I tell you what, I'll stay with you again tonight and every night if you want me to."
"You have yourself a deal, Beastboy" she replied and hugged him again. As she sat up, she noticed the heart shaped box on the nightstand next to the bed. She reached out picked it up and opened it and saw her reflection smiling for a change.
"You know, I think I messed up when I made that" Beastboy said as Terra watched his reflection join hers in the mirror.
"Excuse me?" she said turning to face him. She loved the box and didn't think there was anything messed up about it.
"Well, look" he said pointing at the mirror, "when you open it, you are seeing yourself in an upside-down heart. That doesn't seem right." He reached out and turned the box in her hand so that she had the mirror in her palm and he held it up by the box part. "Isn't that better?"
Terra looked down again and this time she saw the two of them together in a proper heart. It looked… perfect and so right. "I never thought of that, but yes you are right, it's so much better this way."
"I think maybe I'll fix it so it opens to the left or right, that way the mirror will be right side up when you open it" he said as he stood up. "Come on, we better head downstairs before they start having bad thoughts about what we are doing up here."
"Oh I think they are probably already thinking that" she said noting how late they had slept.
They stopped at the bathroom and each took a turn freshening up a bit, when they were both done, Beastboy took Terra's hand in his and the headed down to breakfast together, both happier than they had been in a long time.
The two arrived at the dining area to to the breakfast chatter of the others. Well, only 3 of them as Raven had her nose in a book while she was eating. Starfire looked up when they entered and smiled.
"Friends!" she shouted happily, "you are finally joining us this morning!" Her eyes then were slowly drawn downward and she saw their two hands joined together.
"How glorious!" she squealed, bringing her fists to her chin. "Does this mean you two are the 'together' again?"
Beastboy and Terra slowly turned to each other and smiled, then they turned back to the group and nodded, each with a slight blush in their cheeks.
"Hooray!" Starfire said and zoomed over to the reunited couple and hugged them hard. "All is as it should be again. I am so very happy for both of you."
"Uuuh, thanks Star" they both grunted, hoping they would be let go soon.
Starfire released them and they all approached the table, the other Titans had looked up to watch and were smiling at them as they sat down. Starfire also returned to her seat next to Robin.
"Alright BB!, ya finally got your girlfriend back!" Cyborg suddenly said a bit teasingly.
Beastboy turned to him with a serious look on his face, "That's right Cy, I did," he said, "and I'm more thankful to have her back than I have been for anything in my entire life." He took Terra's hand and smiled warmly at her, "I love her and I'm never going to lose her again." He then leaned over and kissed the shocked and blushing Terra.
The four titans were staring Beastboy equally shocked. They had never seen him like this before.
"Whoa, it's cool BB," Cyborg said, "I was just messing with ya a little. I'm really happy for you guys." He picked up his glass and held it up. "Let's toast to Beastboy and Terra and new beginnings."
All the titans raised their glass and clinked them together and drank. As they were drinking, Starfire spoke up again. "Robin, why is it that you have never kissed me at the table before?" she asked with her head cocked to one side.
Robin choked on his orange juice. He quickly recovered himself and looked at Starfire. "Well you see Star, it's, I mean…" he stammered.
"Yeah Robin," Raven said closing her book and smirking, "why don't you ever kiss Starfire at the table or anyplace else we all are?"
Beastboy and Terra were too busy trying to keep from laughing to say anything. And Cyborg just said, "Come on Robin, if BB can kiss his girlfriend in front of us, you can kiss yours too" and started making kissing sounds at the flustered leader.
"Do you not want to kiss me in front of our friends Robin?" Starfire asked him.
"Uh no, I mean yes, I mean…" Robin looked around the table blushing profusely and sweat droplets flying from his forehead. Then he looked back at Starfire and smiled, "I-I'd love to kiss you right now Star," and leaned closer to her.
Starfire pulled him close and the two shared a kiss of their own. They broke a minute later and Starfire said, "I do so love your kisses Robin."
Raven got up and started floating toward the stairs, "I'm going to my room to meditate," she said, "its getting a little too emotional for me in here. Terra, just come up after your breakfast when you're ready."
"O-ok Raven, I won't be long." Terra replied.
"Wow Raven, you're letting people in room now?" Beastboy asked astonished.
"It's the best place for me to focus on Terra's mind, no distractions," Raven told him, "and speaking of distractions, come alone Terra, no 'bodyguards' allowed. " And she vanished before Beastboy could retort.
"Don't worry BB, you know I'll tell you everything that happens," Terra said gently. "I'll be ok."
"I know, I just hate when Raven gets the last word in" he said.
"By the way Terra," Robin said suddenly, "I called your school and let them know the situation and that you'd be staying here under our protection. But also that you'll still be attending classes."
"Thanks Robin," Terra replied, "but I've been wondering if I should still go to school if Slade's after me. Wouldn't it be easy for him to get me there?"
"Yes, it could be," the leader replied, "but it's also the best place we have to draw him out. Beastboy will make sure you get to and from school okay, and while at school, you'll have this." Robin then pushed a yellow circular device across the table to her.
"A Titans communicator?" Terra asked, staring at the device.
"YOUR Titans communicator," Robin replied, "we all decided earlier that we want you back on the team as a full member. We didn't need Beastboy here, because we already knew what his vote would be." He smirked a bit at the green Titan.
"B-but I can't fight," Terra protested, "and school. I can't be a full Titan."
"There's other ways to help the team on missions without being able to fight, like acting as bait to bring Slade out of hiding, or research and things like that, and we can teach you how to work the controls on the training course." Robin said, "and as for school, you can still go and live here."
"Guys, I-I don't know what to say" Terra said, flabbergasted.
"You can say yes!" Beastboy told her, to repeat his response the last time she said those words, "and if you want, I'll even ask you out on date tonight, so you can say yes to that too."
Terra giggled at the reference he was making.
"Oh please say you'll return Terra" Starfire pleaded.
"Yeah come on blondie, we really want ya back here" Cyborg added.
"Okay then, yes" Terra said, and then she turned to Beastboy, "to both questions."
Beastboy put on a huge smile at Terra's response. He was only half serious about the date, but decided that he'd like nothing more than to take her out tonight on a second first date. And God help Slade if he tried to interrupt them this time.
"What a most wonderful morning this has been!" Starfire exclaimed.
Terra then turned to Beastboy, "Thanks for saying all that before, it really meant a lot to me to hear you say them to everyone."
Beastboy smiled, "It's the truth, and I meant every word Terra."
"Well, I love you too, and I don't want to ever lose you again either Beastboy." She told him and then returned his kiss from earlier.
Robin noticed this and just sighed. He leaned over and kissed Starfire again before she could start asking questions again.
Terra took a deep breath and timidly knocked on the door in front of her. The door opened and she heard a familiar voice say "Come in, Terra."
She stepped into the darkened room, the curtains were closed and many candles were lit to provide light. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long, Raven" she said to the empathy.
"Not at all, I needed some extra meditation after all that emotion at breakfast," Raven replied. "Please lay down on my bed and we'll get started."
"Okay," Terra replied and approached the bed. She lay down and folded her hands across her stomach.
Raven approached the bed and placed a hand on Terra's forehead, "Just close your eyes and relax, Terra" she told her, closing her own eyes.
Terra closed her eyes and soon heard the familiar chant begin, "Azerath, Metrion, Zinthos…"
Raven was suddenly seeing visions of Terra's memories. She saw Markovia, the castle, young Terra and other memories she remembered from when she had probed Geo-Force's mind not too long ago. The memories changed and she was now seeing more familiar places, like Gotham, Metropolis and Keystone.
"She's really been around" Raven thought to herself.
The scenes shifted again and now she was looking at a familiar canyon where Terra was being chased by a giant scorpion. Raven watched as Terra defeated the beast and then first met the Titans. She smirked as she watched a flustered BeastBoy turn into a turtle and hide in his shell and then stick his normal head out when Terra said he was hilarious.
"It really was love at first sight for him," Raven thought again, as she remembered the powerful emotions she sensed from him upon meeting Terra for the first time. She remembered sensing the same emotions from Terra as well. No one had realized that Terra had been just as enamored with Beastboy at their first meeting. She was just better at guarding her emotions.
Raven continued watching all the memories of Terra and the Titans getting to know one another. The scene shifted again and she was watching Terra and Beastboy sitting together on the rocky shore of the tower, just talking and goofing off. They made faces at each other and then laughed together about it. Then they stopped and stared at each other. They slowly began to lean closer but stopped and turned away, both of them blushing.
Now Raven was seeing the cave where they all first fought together. Terra had gotten separated from the team and was now being approached by Slade. Raven could tell he was planting seeds of doubt in Terra's head already. Telling her lies that the Titans weren't her friends and that Beastboy would blab her secret and then she would be rejected. She watched as Terra lost control of her powers and Slade left her, laughing in his wake. Terra was crying, trapped in the dust whirlwind she had created, when suddenly Raven saw a green groundhog pop up from the ground and upon seeing Terra's peril, morphed into Beastboy and leaped into the whirlwind. Raven felt a little emotional herself watching the touching scene as the green shape-shifter reached his hand out to the crying girl. She took his hand and Beastboy pulled her into his arms to comfort her, telling her softly, "I'm here Terra, I'm here".
Terra continued to cry into Beastboy's arms as he calmed her down and the whirlwind subsided. She asked him again to promise not to tell anyone about her problem with controlling her powers and he promised her again.
The scene changed again, Robin was handing Terra a communicator and offering her a spot on the team. She happily agreed and then Robin made his fateful statement about helping her learn to control her powers.
Raven winced as she watched Terra get angry and accuse Beastboy of breaking his promise and then run off. Beastboy looked devastated. Damn Slade! He probably knew Robin would mention her control problem at some point, knowing how observant he is. And now because of Slade's lies she ran off thinking Beastboy betrayed her.
"He didn't break his promise to you, Terra" Raven thought to memory Terra. Seeing this scene again, she realized Robin was right, they did share some of the blame for what happened. They should have went after her and explained.
Terra kept running for a long time until she finally ended up in the cavern where the Titans found her. She ducked into a small cave and collapsed onto a sleeping bag set up in there and began to cry.
"Beastboy, why?" she sobbed, "I-I trusted you." And she continued crying until the memory faded because she fell asleep.
Now the memory was Terra gathering her things from the cave into a backpack. She finished packing and hoisted the pack onto her shoulder, then with a heavy sigh, she turned to leave the cave.
"Going somewhere, Terra?" an eerie and familiar voice suddenly asked.
"Huh, who's there?" Terra said, looking around.
"I told you he couldn't keep his mouth shut, Terra" Slade said as he stepped from the shadows.
"H-how did you know that?" she asked, taking a step backward.
"That's not important," Slade said menacingly.
"I told you to leave me alone" Terra said.
"But I can help you Terra, teach you control, then you wouldn't have to be ashamed anymore" the villain said smoothly.
"No thanks, I don't want or need your help." Terra said as she turned to leave.
"How funny, Terra" Slade continued, "you think you have a choice." And he suddenly shot a cloud of gas out of his glove. Terra started to cough violently and the memory faded.
Terra's memory faded back in again. Everything was a bit hazy and unfocused but Raven could make out a large display showing circular red blobs in a flowing motion, each blob had small device attached to it. At the bottom of the display was the name TERRA.
"The nanoprobes!" Raven thought to herself, just like Slade had used on her and the Titans.
"Unh, what happened, where am I?" she heard Terra ask groggily.
"You're at my… facility, Terra." Slade said, stepping forward. "You agreed to let me help you gain control of your powers. You… passed out on our way here."
"I… did?" Terra questioned.
"Yes, don't you remember Terra?" Slade continued, "you were so ashamed because the Teen Titans rejected you after Beastboy told them about your control problem. You came to me because you wanted to learn control."
"Beastboy? No, he's my friend, he… cares about me, he would never tell." Terra said.
"Even so, they found out and they rejected you Terra." Slade told her.
"You lying no good…" Raven thought, "we did not reject her, it was the opposite."
"And you're going to help me?" she asked him.
"Yes Terra, I will help you get your power under control." Slade said. "As a matter of fact, the treatment has already begun." He gestured toward the screen.
"What's that?" Terra asked.
"That's your bloodstream, Terra" Slade replied, "and those are your blood cells with my nanoprobes attached. They will help with controlling your powers."
"Oh" she said.
"Rest now, Terra. Tomorrow we begin your training." Slade told her.
"Ok" Terra replied and the memory slowly faded again.
The memories were then of Terra's training sessions. Raven noted that the training was mostly combat and martial arts, with Terra using her powers here and there. Eventually, it shifted to Terra and Slade in a conversation.
"Your training is complete now, Terra." Slade said, "you now have control of your powers."
"I.. do?" Terra asked, looking at her glowing hands.
"Of course, don't you remember how well you were using them in our last training session? Didn't you feel more confident?" he asked.
"Yeah, I did." She replied.
"Excellent, now we must discuss your "payment" for my teaching you." He said.
"My payment?" Terra asked. "What do you mean?"
"You owe me, Terra. I taught you how to control your powers, how long do you think it would have been until losing control of your powers cost you your own life?" as he said this, Raven noticed his hand moving slightly, as if he was manipulating something he was holding.
"Yes!" Terra exclaimed, as if it suddenly dawned on her, "you're right, you helped me and you saved me… from myself. But… what do you want?"
"Hardly anything, really" Slade said, "I just want you to become my apprentice and swear allegiance to me."
"What? I can't do that." She said, a bit fearfully.
"Oh yes you can, Terra" Slade sneered, "and you will or else I assure you the consequences won't be pleasant."
"C-consequences?" she asked.
"Yes, have a sampling" Slade said and pushed a button on the remote he was holding. Suddenly Terra cried out as if she was in tremendous pain.
Slade laughed, "It hurts, doesn't it Terra? And you won't be the only one suffering if you refuse to join me, I'll go after HIM, too."
"Beastboy? NO! You leave him alone!" Terra cried.
"Oh yes Terra, I'll make sure he suffers as well." Slade laughed.
"Ok, I'll join you" Terra grunted, "just leave Beastboy alone."
Slade released the button, "Good, and you can start your first assignment immediately."
"What assignment?" she asked, the fear creeping back into her voice.
"I want you to rejoin the Teen Titans, Terra." Slade told her, "you should like that."
"Rejoin them? Why?" she asked.
"I want you to act as my spy, and get me information on them. Learn all you can about them and their headquarters, and I want their security codes." He said.
"But why do you want all that?" she asked again.
"To destroy them of course, Terra." Slade laughed.
"No, you can't. And you said you wouldn't hurt Beastboy if I joined you." She pleaded.
"Yes, I suppose I did," Slade replied, "fine, if you do your job well and you remain loyal to me, then perhaps I'll spare Beastboy."
"O-okay" Terra said sadly.
"I've gotten you a new uniform to wear when you return to them tomorrow." Slade said, handing her the familiar black top and yellow shorts. Terra took them but kept her head down. "And remember, if you start having any second thoughts while you are with them, you won't be the only one to feel my wrath."
"Y-yes, I understand." Terra said sadly as the memory faded once again.
The vision shifted again and now Raven was seeing when Terra had rejoined the Titans. Most of what she was seeing was very familiar to her, but she also discovered some things that she hadn't known about. Terra planting cameras around the tower, including Terra's room. Raven remembered that they had removed all the cameras, but they didn't realize there had been one in Terra's room as well. She made a mental note to let Terra know after they were done.
The next thing she saw that she hadn't known about was a one on one conversation that Terra had with Robin. It looked to be not long after she returned and was officially made a Titan.
"You wanted to see me, Robin?" Terra asked the leader.
"Yes, Terra." Robin answered, "please sit down."
"O-okay" she said a bit nervously and took a seat.
"Relax Terra, now that you're on the team, I just need to make sure you're able to work together with everyone, without any issues."
"Why would I have issues with anyone?" Terra asked, "so far everyone has been great, except maybe Raven."
"Raven just needs to get to know you better, so I wouldn't worry about her" Robin said, "I was more concerned about you and Beastboy."
"Beastboy?" Terra said, shocked, "why would I have issues with him? I l-…ike him a lot." A slight blush rose on her cheeks.
"That's pretty obvious" Robin said smiling, "and I know he likes you a lot as well. I was talking about when you ran away before. You thought Beastboy told us about your control issues and were very upset about it."
"Oh yeah, that" Terra replied.
"Well I just wanted to you to know that Beastboy didn't tell us anything. I've just been well trained in observation of things."
"H-he didn't?" Terra asked, "I-I mean yeah I kinda realized that after I calmed down a little. I had thought of coming back but I felt kinda ashamed about it."
"He was really upset for a few days after you ran off, Terra" Robin told her, "so I just wanted to be sure that's all settled and it won't affect either of your performance on the team."
"BB and me are cool, chief" Terra said with a laugh, "no need to worry."
"Great." Robin replied, "I really think you're going to make a great Titan, Terra."
"Well, I hope you're right," she said, "so uh, can I go now?"
"Sure, we're all done here" Robin said, "I'll see you later."
"Uh cool" Terra said and left Robin's room. The door closed and she ran to her own room closing the door behind her. She then jumped in her bed and began to cry.
The memory shifted again and now Raven was seeing the battle with Slade's worms. She had mixed emotions watching as her and Terra worked together to save the tower.
Now, Terra was in her room again, tears in her eyes as she was typing something on a small laptop computer. Raven noticed some hesitation in Terra before she pressed one last button on the laptop and closed the lid. Then she heard the knock on Terra's door.
Raven couldn't help but smirk as she watched Beastboy's shyness and clumsiness as he first presented Terra with his gift then asked her out on a date. That was typical Beastboy, she thought to herself.
Terra had quickly turned him down and retreated back to her room, closing the door. She then sat down and more tears started flowing from her eyes. She looked down at the heart box in her hands and opened it, staring at her reflection.
"Beastboy, why couldn't you have come just a minute sooner" she said to herself, "I want to go out with you more than anything, but it was too late." She continued to stare into the mirror.
"Maybe, it's not too late, maybe he could help me if I tell him everything," she continued sadly, "or maybe he'll just hate me."
She closed the box and placed on a nearby table, then stood up. "I have to try," she said as she walked toward the window, "and I really want to be with him now. It could be the last time I get to spend with him."
Raven uttered another laugh as she watched Beastboy's reaction to Terra showing up at his window. Raven also felt a bit sad for the both of them, as she watched BB happily climbing onto Terra's boulder and the two of them floated off into the night.
Beastboy had never told them what happened that night. Despite all of Robin's insisting and demanding to know everything. He had only told them a brief and sketchy version of the events that occurred. And now Raven understood why. It had been a very intimate and personal evening for the both of them, despite what was going on. It had to be the happiest she had ever seen Beastboy (except maybe for Terra's return). And Terra looked really happy too, despite what was going on at the time, which showed in the anxious looks she had from time to time and her attempts at confessing to Beastboy.
They were on the ferris wheel now and Terra was attempting to confess to Beastboy again. And then Slade's interruption as they were having their most intimate moment of the night. Raven noticed that Terra was just as shocked as Beastboy at Slade's appearance. She always knew Terra's feelings for Beastboy were genuine, she had sensed it while Terra was with the team. Until now, Raven had always wondered if Terra running off with Beastboy that night, was part of whatever Slade had planned. Now she knew that wasn't the case.
Slade and Terra were now returning to his lair, he stopped her and slowly turned her to face him. Terra still had an angry look on her face as she stared silently at Slade. Before she could say anything, Slade roughly backhanded her, changing her look of anger to one of shock and sending her flying backward into a wall.
Terra sat up and stared fearfully at Slade, "W-why did you do that?" she asked.
"You were going to betray me Terra." Slade told her coldly, "you were going to confess to Beastboy."
"H-how did you know and how did you find me?"
"I keep a close eye on my apprentices, Terra. You didn't think that I had no way to track you if you decided to run did you?" Slade asked.
"But I did what you wanted, I sent you those codes and all that other information you wanted." She said.
"Oh Terra, you are so naïve," Slade laughed, "you're whole time with the Titans was just a test."
"A test? What do you mean?" she asked, looking more scared.
"A test of your loyalty to me, Terra," Slade said, "and you failed miserably."
"But you sent the robots to attack them…"
"And the Titans defeated them easily, even with only four of them. As I knew they would." Slade continued, "and by now, Beastboy has returned to them and relayed what has happened. So you are their enemy now Terra."
Terra just stared down at the floor, looking sad and ashamed.
"Now apprentice, I said plans had changed" Slade told her.
Terra looked up, "You don't want to take over the city now?"
"Not that plan Terra" Slade replied, "my plan for you. I need to ensure you can't resist me and remain loyal."
"P-plan for me?" she asked, fear in her voice rising, "and what do you mean resist? I never—"
But Terra didn't get to finish, Slade had shot a gas cloud from his glove and the memory blacked out.
The memories returned and now Terra was standing before Slade, wearing her battlesuit. She was motionless, the expression on her face was cold and uncaring.
"Apprentice," Slade said to her, "what are you objectives?"
"Once we have taken over the city, destroy the Teen Titans" Terra replied coldly.
"Good," Slade said, "remember what I've always told you, they are not your friends. They do not care about you, even Beastboy turned his back on you. Now you must have your revenge."
"I will destroy them, and I'll make Beastboy pay!" she said angrily. But Raven could have sworn there was a hint of sadness in her eyes when Slade mentioned Beastboy's name.
"Just what I wanted to hear, Apprentice" Slade said, "now, it is time for us to strike!" He began to fiddle with a strange remote he was holding, and then the two walked off together.
Raven was now reliving them taking over the city and the team's battles with Terra. It hurt to watch this again, especially her own fight with Terra, but she remember that she was getting close to the memories that she really needed to see. Now, Terra was struggling with the rock floating over Beastboy's head, but finally broke free of Slade's control and sent the boulder hurtling at him, knocking him into the lava to his death. But unfortunately, Raven remembered that wasn't the end of him.
Beastboy and Terra were now hugging each other, both crying. It was their tearful goodbye. Terra told him he was the best friend she ever had and hugged him closer before sending him floating away on a boulder. As Beastboy floated away, she heard Terra utter in a low whisper, "I love you Beastboy, always…"
When he was safely away, Terra turned to the erupting lava and began activating her powers to stop it. There was a sudden, and incredibly bright light as she put every ounce of her power into stopping the erupting volcano and earthquakes. And then once again, everything had gone black as Terra turned to stone.
The blackness turned to a dimness. Raven could now make out rocky shapes but they were shadows. She heard a weak grunt in the darkness and could make out the shape of Terra. She was still on top of the pedestal but had collapsed to her knees. She now slowly climbed down from the pedestal and leaned against it for a moment, breathing heavily. She took a step forward and then clutched her head, as if she was dizzy. Terra collapsed to the ground and uttered a single word, "Beast…boy.." and then there was blackness again.
There was bright light in the cave now. "Terra?" a voice said, "you're…alive?"
Terra slowly raised her head to look at Slade's mask. "W-who are you?" she asked weakly, "and who's Terra?"
Slade regarded the weakened girl for a moment. "What are you doing here anyway?" Slade asked, and then moved his light slightly and read the plaque on the pedestal. "So, it looks like they forgave you and 'welcomed you back into the fold' as it were."
"Who forgave me? For what?" she asked Slade.
"Never mind that now. I have to admit when I started receiving transmissions from your breastplate again, I didn't think I'd find you alive with it." Slade said.
"What are you talking about?" Terra questioned again.
Slade stepped forward and grabbed her arm, pulling her to her feet. "Ow" Terra cried.
"You don't remember what you did to me?" Slade asked her angrily, leaning in close.
Terra's eyes widened and she shook her head no.
"I should take my revenge on you here and now, but I need to retrieve my property first," Slade said coolly.
"You're property?" she asked, sounding scared.
"The battlesuit you're wearing," Slade continued, "I want it back."
"But why? And what did I do to you?"
"You were my apprentice and you betrayed me." He sneered at her. "You've proven untrustworthy as an apprentice now, so I don't need you anymore. And it won't matter if that breastplate has done its job. Come Terra, there's work to do."
"No!" Terra said, " I don't think I should go with you."
Slade only sighed, "You still think you have a choice with me?" and shot gas out of his glove again.
The scene now showed Terra strapped to a table in Slade's lair. She began to struggle.
"Ah good, you're awake." Slade said. "I've removed your battlesuit and you'll be happy to know I've decided not to destroy you yet."
"Why do you want to destroy me?" Terra cried, still struggling.
"I already told you, you betrayed me and more." Slade said.
"More?"
"You'll find out the rest in time, but now I have plans for you."
"What plans?" Terra asked.
"You may have forgotten what I originally told you, but I didn't" Slade told her, "remember I said that both of you would suffer if you betrayed me."
"Please, I don't know what you are talking about," Terra pleaded, "who else is there?"
"You'll be seeing him again in time as well" Slade laughed, "then I can get my revenge on the both of you. He's as much to blame as you are. I see now, that I can't ever break that cursed bond you and he share, it ended up causing my downfall. Thankfully, Raven's father stepped in to bring me back."
"Raven? Who's that?" Terra asked again.
"Never mind, everything will come back to you in time, I'm sure." Slade replied, "but now I'm taking you to a hospital to get you medical attention. Since you currently have no home or memory, they will most likely make you a ward of the city and find you a place to stay. I'll just arrange it so it's a place where your sure to bump into your old friends, if they ever return."
"Good night Terra, you won't see me again for quite a while." And everything went black again.
Raven broke the connection, now that she finally had gotten the information she was looking for. Terra stirred and then her eyes fluttered open. She sat up and turned to Raven.
"I remember everything now!" Terra exclaimed, "Slade never wanted to teach me control, he just wanted to control me…in every way."
"Yes," Raven replied, "and he not only blames you for what happened to him, but Beastboy as well. Because of your bond with him, you were able to break free of Slade's control and now he wants to destroy both of you."
"Slade did warn me that both of us would suffer, I think he thought that would help him better control me." Terra mused.
"But it didn't work, even with the nanoprobes. You still wanted to confess to Beastboy what you had done. Though it might have been too late at that point, you had already transmitted the entry codes." Raven said.
"I know, and I felt so awful after Beastboy visited me right after that." Terra said, wiping a tear from her eye, "I just wanted to tell him everything then and hope he would help me."
"For what it's worth, I think things would have gone much differently that night if Slade hadn't interrupted you two when he did." Raven told her.
"Interrup—oh.." Terra said and blushed.
"I also think he would have reacted differently if he heard what was going on from you instead of Slade and the way he twists things." Raven continued.
"So what do we do now?" Terra asked her.
"We need to tell the others everything, and that we were right about Slade being the one that found you." Raven told her.
"Uh, everything?"
Raven smirked, "Well, we don't have to mention those things that we know. That date looked pretty special to both of you, despite everything else that happened."
Terra blushed again, "It was, and when Beastboy turned his back on me that night, it was the most hurt I've ever been in my life."
"Yeah, he was pretty hurt himself that night."
"Raven, you don't know how sorry I am for everything I did then" Terra said.
"Oh, I know Terra, I'm an empath remember?" said Raven.
"Oh yeah, that's right." Terra said, and stood up, "shall we go down to the common room then?"
"Yes," Raven said, "but we need to make one stop along the way."
She then led a puzzled Terra to her room where she quickly found the remaining camera that was planted there. Raven destroyed it with a short burst of black energy.
Terra's eyes were wide. "Oh no, that means Slade probably saw me and Beastboy…"
"What?" Raven asked her.
"Nothing" Terra said quickly, "It's just that Beastboy has been spending nights in here with me and there were a lot of personal things done and said between us."
"You mean you two…?" Raven asked.
"NO, no nothing like that, it was just pretty private and personal." Terra replied looking away.
"I'll bet it just made Slade angrier seeing how your bond has strengthened." Raven said gently.
"Yeah, I hope it did. The perv." Terra said. "Come on let's head downstairs."
The two girls entered the common room and Beastboy looked up immediately.
"Terra!" he said happily, "are you ok?"
Terra sat down next to him and smiled warmly, "I'm great." She told him, taking his hand in hers.
"Slade found Terra in the cave when she revived, just like we thought." Raven said, addressing everyone.
"Argh, I knew it." Robin said angrily, "but I don't get it, why did he just let her go? He must have been furious with her."
"He was," Raven continued, "but he said he wanted to use Terra to get to the other person that caused his downfall."
"Other person? Who else is there?" Beastboy asked, puzzled.
Raven just shook her head. "Are you really asking that? It's you genius. The bond you have with Terra proved to be more powerful than everything he used to control Terra. So he blames you too."
"Oh yeah, me," Beastboy replied. "Well bring it on I say, I owe him for everything he did to Terra."
"Before he sent me back here, he threatened that both of us would suffer if I… betrayed him or anything." Terra said sadly and hung her head. "I'm sorry."
Beastboy took her chin in his hand and gently turned her face to his. "Stop that. You have nothing to be sorry about." He told her. Terra smiled gratefully at him.
Raven cleared her throat to bring the couple back to the rest of the group. "Anyway, he didn't expect to find Terra in the cave. The suit she was wearing had a tracking device, and it looked like it reactivated when Terra revived. He wanted the suit back for some reason and he had went there to retrieve it. He was actually surprised to find Terra. He took her back to his lair and removed it from her."
"I knew it wouldn't be easy to get that thing off." Cyborg spoke up, "that was some piece of tech. I wonder why he wanted it, if he wasn't going to control Terra with it."
"Well, he said that he wouldn't need Terra anymore because he designed the suit to do other things beside controlling her." Raven said.
"I'm not surprised about that." Cyborg said, "he seems to get tech no one has even heard of yet. I'm sure that suit did have other surprises in it. I just wish I could have studied it."
"I wonder what else that suit can do then," Robin mused.
"I think I may know," Raven said, "it makes sense when you put everything together."
"What makes sense?" Beastboy asked.
"That the suit may be the reason why Terra's powers are gone." Raven said. "Perhaps Slade designed it to drain them somehow."
"Whoa, can that even be possible?" Beastboy asked.
"It could be," Cyborg answered, "Terra got her powers from science, just like you Beastboy. So Slade could have found a way to take them away. It's definitely possible."
"That's what I was thinking too" Raven said.
"Alright," Robin said, "so it looks like he can strike at any time now. He's probably been watching Terra for a while and he knows she is back with us. We need to be on our guard at all times now, especially you two". He looked at Beastboy and Terra.
"We will, don't worry." Beastboy told him.
"I want the two of you to keep your communicators with you at all times now too." Robin continued.
"No problem, can we adjourn now?" Beastboy asked.
"Yeah, I suppose so, I want to do some research to see if I can figure out where Slade is." Robin said.
"Great! Cuz we need to rest up for tonight." Beastboy said.
"Tonight?" Robin asked him.
"Yeah, Terra and me are going out." Beastboy told him happily.
Robin sighed. "Alright, I won't stop you, since you'd probably sneak out anyway. But be careful and make sure you have your communicators with you, both of you."
"Promise." Beastboy said and led Terra back to her room.
Beastboy held the door for Terra as they entered Ben's. Last time he was here, he was alone searching for Terra, but now she was here with him again and he couldn't be happier. He was determined to recreate their first date, but this time have a proper ending.
He had flown Terra from the tower on his back, as a pterodactyl, since Terra couldn't fly them on a boulder like last time. He made sure they both had their communicators this time before they left. He had also found another carnival to take her to, they had a similar ferris wheel to the previous one and no mirror house.
They sat at the same seats as last time and ordered apple pie. The waitress brought it to them and Terra eagerly took a bite. "Ummm, I missed this almost as much as I missed you" she said, "this is the first time I've been back here since the last time with you."
"Really? I thought you loved this place." Beastboy said.
"I do, but it would have only brought memories that I wanted to forget." Terra told him.
"Oh, well now that you don't want to forget anymore, we can come here any time you want." Beastboy said smiling. He took a bite of his own pie. "Still the best pie in the history of pie" he said solemnly.
Terra giggled and the two of them just talked while they ate their pie, just enjoying being together. And it was only the beginning. They finished their pie and headed out. Outside, Beastboy morphed into a pterodactyl again and Terra climbed on. He flew them to the carnival and morphed back again.
Like last time, they started out just walking around together, Terra once again holding onto Beastboy's arms, both of them smiling. The played some games, and Terra won again. Then they found a photo booth and took some new pictures, but this time Beastboy didn't scare Terra into punching him. The first was them hugging, the second was Terra hugging a green puppy, in the third they made funny faces at each other, and the fourth they were just looking at each other warmly.
Then they decided to ride some rides. They started with the bumper cars and then the spook house again, and then all the other rides, but saved the ferris wheel for last. Eventually they arrived there.
The gondolas were enclosed just like the other wheel, and they sat together on one side as the attendant closed the door. And then the wheel began moving slowly. Beastboy turned to Terra.
"Are you having fun Terra?" he asked her.
"Oh yes," she answered, "you're still my definition of fun, Beastboy."
"I'm glad, because I really wanted you to have fun tonight." He said.
"As long as you're with me, I know I'll have fun." She replied.
The wheel then came to a stop, they were pretty close to the top. Beastboy began to scoot closer to Terra. "I guess it's that time again, huh?" he said.
Terra gave him a sly smile, "Mmmhmm" she replied and closed her eyes and parted her lips slightly.
Beastboy slowly leaned in closer to her but stopped just a tiny bit away. "Hold on just a sec, Terra" he said and quickly looked around the gondola. He then morphed into a bird and flew out of the gondola and went from car to car looking in each one and then circled the ground before zooming back to their gondola and morphing back.
"Okay, where were we?" he asked.
"What was all that for?" she asked him back.
"Well, I just wanted to make sure we weren't going to be interrupted this time." He said, a bit sheepishly.
Terra just giggled again. Thinking how funny he could be. She then saw Beastboy leaning in close to her again and resumed her former pose. She felt his lips touch her and melted into the kiss, she slowly wrapped her arms around his neck and held him closer as they kissed some more. Nothing or no one interrupted them this time, and she felt as if nothing would interrupt them again.
Down on the ground, half in the shadows across from the wheel. Two figures stared up at their gondola. Slade scowled behind his mask as he stared up at it.
"Yes, enjoy yourselves now," he sneered, "very soon I will strike, and I promise the both of you will suffer just like I said Terra." Then he laughed. "Come apprentice, it's time to go. We have much to do." And the two figures disappeared into the shadows and we're gone.
I'm thinking the next chapter will probably be the last followed by an epilogue.
