Chapter 17: Love's Truths

Fionna's eyes fluttered open and she came face to face with Marshall. She yelped and pushed him back, "What the heck Marshall? Why are you looking at me sleep?"

"Marshal fell on his butt and laughed hysterically before jumping back up and squeezing her tight. "I thought I lost you."

"Lost me, what the heck are you talking about?" Fionna said sitting up looking into Marshall's eyes. "What's wrong with you? You look different…" Fionna looked close at Marshall until she looked deeper into his eyes. "Your eyes… they're green…"

"Yeah… Funny story…umm you died… I traded my immortality for your soul and here we are."

Fionna sat up swimming in her thoughts as she digested all of what Marshall had told her. "I WAS DEAD!"

"Yup"

"You're a mortal?"

"Yup."

"So what does that mean?"

"Well I talked to Death about that, supposedly I age a year every hour."

"WHAT?! Well how old are you now?"

"You have been out for six hours so I am 25 now."

Fionna frantically raked her fingers through her hair, "Marshall we are still missing 3 crystals, what will we do?"

"Well I have a little good news; I gave you my crystal so at the time I was no longer a sage. Death told me the Sage of Love recently died and he was holding on to her stone. When I sacrificed my immortality for your life he gave me this…" Marshall reached out his hand with a gorgeous spiked pink stone.

Fionna silently stared at the stone. After a few moments she sighed, "How are you taking this so well?"

"I never thought I would see your face again, so I was granted at least a few more days with my bunny. I couldn't be happier."

The tears trickled down her face as she leaped into Marshall's chest, "I can't do this without you."

Marshall kissed her forehead and pulled her close, "Hey… hey calm down. It's not over yet. But don't forget you have to take the stone for us to move forward.

He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her away. He placed his hand out to Fionna still holding on to the stone. He gave his signature toothy grin, "Come on babe before you start dating an old geezer."

Fionna let out a light chuckle while wiping away her tears. "You're right, we can do this." She reached out her hand and grasped the stone.

As with every other stone she floated off the ground and white light shot from her eyes.

Marshall took one last look at Fionna before walking over to the table. He decided to carefully look over their notes; he had to figure out who those last two sages were before it was too late.

Fionna landed in a place that looked familiar it was a lovely garden. Then it hit her, it was the royal garden in the palace. She use to have so much fun walking through with Prince Gumball. She sighed and wondered what this had to do with love.

Before she had a chance to truly explore her thoughts she saw Marshall and Cake walking down the path. "What are they doing here?" Fionna thought

From the opposite end of the path she saw Gumball coming to meet up with the two.

"What the heck is going on? I do not remember this at all."

Gumball reached out and hugged Cake." I am so glad you were able to make it. It has been a long time."

He sat back up and looked toward Marshall placing his hand out. Marshall begrudgingly shook his hand. "Thank you for coming, I know the last time we met up was not the most pleasant."

"Yea, you can say that." Marshall said while folding his arms.

"Yes, well I hope that we can put this behind us. Please follow me to the pond. We can have a seat and get down to business."

The three walked down the path and Fionna followed close behind. After a brief walk they had arrived at the pond. They all sat at the table Cake and Marshall still confused as to why they were summoned.

"Well I guess you are wondering why I asked you to come here."

"Well yeah baby cakes, I have not heard from you since you and Fionna's falling out."

"That is exactly why I asked you here. I just wanted to know if she was all right. I miss her so much, she was my best friend."

Fionna stood there in shook, she could not believe what she was hearing.

"Well you sure as hell didn't act like it the last time we dropped in on you." Marshall said with venom in his voice.

"Yes you are right. I have to admit I was a little jealous. I lashed out. Honestly I miss her a lot. I wish we could be friends again."

"Well why don't you call her hunny pie? I am sure she misses you too."

Gumball sighed, "Well I doubt after the way I have treated her. I just want to make sure she is well."

"She is fine. It took a long time but she found meaning again. She is finally happy."

"I love Fionna. She was like the sister I never had. All I want is her to be happy." Gumball stood up and started walking away. He stopped without turning back to look at the two, "Please don't tell her about our meeting. I think she is better off without me." He continued walking until he was out of sight. Marshall and Cake both got up and walked towards the castle gate.

Fionna was in awe. Things could have been so much different. She loved Gumball too, and Cake and especially Marshall. "These are all my loved ones, I did not have to be depressed. All this time I was feeling sorry for myself and all I had to do was talk to them. Fionna let out a large sigh. "I have been such a fool, all this time I was looking for love and it was right in front of me. "

She saw a flash of light and before she realized it she was sitting back on her couch. When she finally got herself together she walked over to Marshall who was still sitting at the table and gave him a huge bear hug from behind.

"What was that for, did you see an image of me naked? That would make me happy too!" He said with a smirk.

Fionna looked at his face and there were wrinkle marks that were not there before. "I ummm….how long was I out?"

"About 5 hours or so. You know those visions take forever."

"Oh well that makes you about 31… sigh…anyway I just want to say I love you. And I know about your meeting with Gumball and Cake. I am not sure why I know since it was not my memory."

He finally looked up from the notes. "Well since my immortality was revoke to bring you back I would assume we have some type of spiritual bond now. You can see my vision. I guess you saw it in your vision. Gumball asked me not tell you and…"

"I understand. But thank you. Before this is all over I have to talk to Gumball."

"That would make him happy. But I have good news. I was studying our notes and I figured out who the Saga of happiness is. "

"That's awesome. Who is it?"

"It's BMO…"

"BMO… I guess it makes sense. He is quite old and he is a happy robot lad. Hmm but there is a problem. He is way out in the desert he is visiting his grandpop. He has been gone for months."

Marshall sat back in his chair and started to quietly ponder. "Well to get to his factory takes 3 days by foot and for me to fly it should take about 12 hours. I will go alone to get this stone and I think you should pay Gumball a visit. He is a book worm maybe he has a way to slow down my aging. Plus you guys can catch up." He gave a weak smile.

"Are you sure? You don't need my help?"

"No I will be fine. Go ahead."

"Okay we have a plan. Let's get to it."
