Chapter 6:

Dimitri's POV:

Yesterday was a very weird day. After Tasha left so abruptly with her nephew, I decided to go out and try to find someone who could help shed some light on this situation. As I was walking around the Court grounds, I noticed people giving me a mixture of looks. There were the same disgruntled looks I saw yesterday when I was holding Tasha's hand. People looked angry and disgusted. Some even looked at me in fear, but for some reason, that didn't feel new to me. I guess I am quite intimidating, with my height and guardian-built body. I tried to approach co-workers at the guardian headquarters, but they all turned away before I could say a word. I'd decided to go to the Head Guardian to find out what happened to me in the attack, but he was too busy to see anyone. I eventually went go home to rest as my head injury was giving me more headaches, and the vibes I was getting from everyone wasn't pleasant.

This morning I woke up nice and early to have a workout at one of the many gyms here at Court. I went to a more secluded one so I could avoid the evil glares. Thankfully there are not too many people in this gym. I start to do my warm up stretches when a young guardian approaches me. His sandy blonde hair and brown eyes I recognise as one of the students at St. Vladimir's, but I can't recall his name. He must have graduated recently. Before I can speak to him, he strides towards me and punches me in the face. I back up, more surprised than anything, and automatically getting into a defensive position.

"What was that for?" I exclaim.

"What do you think it was for, moron?!" he barks back. "How could you do this?!"

I look at him, flabbergasted. "I honestly don't know what you're talking about," I say as calmly as possible.

"Yeah right," he says retorts. "You don't think I've heard? Everyone is talking about it! How could you do this to her? After everything she went through for you, how could you do this to her?!"

"Who? Tasha?" I ask, more confused than ever. His murderous glare makes me feel like I've answered incorrectly. But who could he be talking about?

"Have you completely forgotten about Rose?" he asks scathingly. The name rings a bell. Wasn't she one of the students who ran away from St. Vladimir's?

"The… runaway student?" I ask quietly. Now it was the young guardian's turn to look confused. Then his expression turns incredulous.

"So, now you're acting like you don't even remember her? Wow. Well, let's hope she forgets about you this time. You have hurt her way too many times, Belikov. This is the last time." He steps closer to me so that we are mere inches apart. "I won't let you hurt her again," he says in a low and menacing voice. With that threatening statement, he turns and storms out of the gym, leaving me utterly confused. What did I do to this Rose?

I turn and see the other guardians in the gym staring at me. The one closest to me whistles lowly and says, "Man, I would not be stupid enough to cheat on Hathaway."

"Cheat on?" I ask. I cheated on Rose? The runaway student? I'm in a relationship with a student? What the hell has happened in the past year?!

The man gives me a pointed look. "Yeah, 'cheat on'. The whole Court is talking about how you have gotten real close with Lady Ozera. How you have suddenly become her guardian, and… you're now living together." Dear God, the headache is returning.

"I still don't understand. Tasha told me that she and I have been together for a few months now. She never mentioned anyone called 'Rose'," I say, confusion clear in my voice.

"Wait, what do you mean 'Tasha told you'? And why don't you remember Rose?" he asks, sounding more confused than me, which, believe me, is difficult to do.

"I received a head injury a few days ago and consequently don't remember the past year. Tasha was the first person I saw when I woke up, and she told me that she and I are in a relationship." I explain to him. His eyes widen in shock.

"Man, she's lying - " his words were cut off by a loud crashing sound from outside. We could hear shouting and more crashes. Our conversation forgotten, we all rush out of the gym to see a group of Moroi men fighting. We leap into action and quickly end the fight; however there are a lot of injuries. The other guardians decide to escort the men to the clinic. I choose to go back to Tasha's apartment, as the fight has set off a wave of dizziness and cause the headache to return again.

As I return to the apartment, I remember my earlier conversations with the guardians in the gym. I lie down on the bed and try to organise my thoughts. Tasha claims that we are in a relationship and have been for the past few months. She is, apparently, pregnant with my child – although I haven't gotten any other confirmation on that. People are disbelieving that we are in a relationship and are furious about my supposed betrayal to Rose Hathaway, the runaway student? I should probably go and find out more information, but the tiredness settles in and I have to rest for a while. I decide to close my eyes and try to sleep.

Adrian's POV:

I am so annoyed. Christian couldn't have kept his cool, could he? He really is a hothead. No wonder his element is fire. We went to the hospital last night to find out information on Belikov. They, of course, refused to give us any details, saying it's confidential and none of our business, blah, blah, blah. I was just about to use my 'charms' on them when a certain Firefly lost his shit and started demanding for more information. He kicked up such a fuss that security came and escorted us out of the building.

I've decided to go see Lady Ozera myself this morning and see if I can decipher anything unusual. That's where I'm heading now, to her apartment. It's early enough in the morning that she should still be there. As I'm walking towards her building, I run into a very furious looking Eddie.

"Whoa, Eddie. Who spat in your cereal this morning?" I ask. He rolls his eyes at my comment and silently fumes for a moment before growling "Belikov".

"Belikov spat in your cereal?" I joke. I probably shouldn't be messing with an angry guardian, but hey, he can't touch me. Wait a minute! He has seen Dimitri! Immediately I stop my joking and become serious.

"What happened with Belikov?" I demand. He scoffs and throws up his hands.

"You haven't heard either? He is shacking up with Tasha and is acting like he doesn't even know Rose." Wow, rumours spread fast around here.

"Okay, take a few deep breaths and try to calm down." I say reasonably. He does as I say and seems to calm down considerably. "I think I know what's going on." I say. I think over everything that has happened, and the pieces start to fall together. Christian was compelled by Tasha to believe that Dimitri is now her guardian; and Christian also doesn't remember what happened to him a couple of days ago while Dimitri had supposedly been attacked by Strigoi and received a minor head injury. Once out of hospital, Dimitri is seen with Tasha and there are rumours that they are in a relationship and living together. I know what has to happen now.

"Eddie, do you know where I can find Christian?" I ask.

"Yes, he is in one of the training rooms teaching a class," he says. "What does Christian have to do with this?"

"Let's walk and talk," I say as I start heading towards the training rooms. I explain to him everything that's going on and of my suspicions of Lady Ozera.

"Wait," Eddie says, "She compelled her own nephew?"

I grimace at the idea, "Yes, I believe so."

"Wow," he murmurs. "Who would be sick enough to do that to their own family?"

"I know." I agree with him. "That's why I want to go find him, to try and reverse the compulsion."

Eddie looks at me with wide eyes. "You can do that?"

"Yes. I can," I say.

"Wow, spirit users have crazy powers," he mutters, more to himself.

Yes, being a spirit user has its advantages, a voice in my head says, sounding strangely like my great aunt. I shake off the voice and continue on our mission to find Fireball. We found him finishing up his class in one of the training rooms. We waited until everyone else has left before approaching him.

"Hey guys," he greets us. "What's up? Did you find out anything about Dimitri?" Eddie and I give each other a look before facing Christian.

"Yes, we did," I state slowly. "We need to talk to you. You probably aren't going to like what we have to say."

"How about we sit?" Eddie suggests, so we sit down on some chairs lining the walls. I position mine so that it's directly facing Christian.

"What's going on?" Christian asks.

"I have reason to believe that Tasha has compelled you to think that Dimitri is her guardian… and to also forget the events that occurred a few days ago." I say, getting straight to the point. As expected, Christian isn't convinced that his aunt would do such a thing. I make sure to have eye contact with him before using my magic.

"Christian," I say smoothly. His expression goes slack. "You are going remember everything that happened to you in the past few days. Any compulsion that was given to you is going to be taken back." He blinked a few times, and then put his hands to his head.

"Ugh!" he moans.

"Christian, are you okay?" Eddie asks.

"Yes," he mumbles, "Just got a sudden headache from the memory flood." Eddie and I looked at each other excited.

"So, you remember what happened?" I ask, just be sure.

"Yes," he says. "I remember everything." He doesn't say anything else. Eddie and I just stare at him, waiting for more.

"Well?" I ask. Is he going to just sit there, or…? He looks at both of us, his eyes blazing.

"Tasha compelled me," he growled.

"Yes, yes, we know!" Eddie exclaims. "What exactly did she say to you?"

"She said: 'Christian, you are going to forgot about the events that happened in the past 24 hours. You haven't seen Dimitri, because you gave him a couple days off. Dimitri has become my guardian, not yours. If any one asks you, he requested to be my guardian. Do you understand?' then after I respond and she said: 'Good. Now leave the hospital, you never saw Dimitri and I here.'"

Eddie and I stare at him, wide eyed, not saying anything for a moment.

"She… she actually did it? She made you believe that Belikov wants to be her guardian? And she made you forget a whole day?" Eddie questions, still in shock.

"Yes." Christian states, still pissed off. Then his eyes go wide with concern. "We were attacked! Is Dimitri okay?" He shakes off his concern. "Never mind, I saw him at Tasha's yesterday. He seemed okay, but it was weird. He seemed to act differently, like he didn't know me, or something."

"I saw him earlier," Eddie says. "I confronted him about getting together with Tasha, and he seemed to not understand why it was so wrong. He also didn't seem to remember Rose. I was so angry, I thought he was just being an asshole; but now that I think about it, maybe he really doesn't remember Rose."

"Do you think Tasha has something to do with that?" Christian asks.

"Maybe," I say. "I haven't had the chance to see him yet, so I don't know if he is affected by compulsion. However, we haven't considered the fact that his confusion and apparent memory loss could actually have something to do with his head injury."

"What are we going to do?" Christian asks, his voice strains slightly in desperation. I look towards Eddie and then back at Christian.

"We are going to your aunt's apartment."

As we make our way across Court towards the apartment buildings, Christian's phone starts ringing. He stops and takes the call a few metres away from us. After a couple of minutes, he ends the call and slowly walks back to us. His worried expression fills me with dread.

"Who was it?" I ask.

"That was Lissa," he says slowly. "She says that they are coming home in 3 days."

Uh oh! The girls are coming home soon. What will they come home to? Hehe :P and Eddie is in the story now too! Yay :D

I don't know why I keep giving Christian nicknames like "Fireball" and "Firefly". I guess a fire user is easier to nickname!

Anyway, I know I only just said in the last chapter that it's way too early for people to find out what's going on, but it just happened kind of naturally and I like where this is going. There probably won't be too many more chapters, so I think the timing is appropriate! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter (2 chapters in 2 days! I'm on a roll!). Please let me know what you think!
