Because Human Trials really messed up my heart. And because I love the idea that Octavia loves Bellarke just as much as we do.
Octavia Blake loved her brother. Arguably, he was the only person she had ever truly loved, besides her mother. But that could just be because she hadn't left the room she'd been born in until she was sixteen. And then she'd been promptly locked up in another cage. Whatever the reason was, however, Octavia Blake loved her big brother, and wanted him to be happy.
For a while she hadn't really known how to make Bellamy Blake happy. She knew he was happy when they were together, knew he was happy when everyone was safe. But she didn't really know what could make her brother truly, completely happy.
That is, she hadn't known until this morning. When Octavia saw how utterly surprised Bellamy had been by Clarke's hug, she knew she had finally found something that could make her brother happy.
Octavia was an observor, so when she'd seen how Bellamy's arms hesitated before wrapping so very tightly around Clarke's body, how he'd wrapped her up like he never wanted this to end, like he couldn't believe it was happening in the first place, she knew there was hope for her brother.
Octavia knew that Bellamy had only ever been hugged by two people in his entire life (her and her mother), knew that he believed himself to be a monster, or at least monsterly. She could almost see the gears turning in his head after that hug. Clarke Griffin hugged me? Clarke Griffin cares about me? Clarke? Good, kind, leader Clarke?
And when they'd finally pulled away from each other, both of them just staring into each other's eyes, their faces saying what their hearts couldn't. He's alive. She's alive.
Clarke had finally broken eye contact, and wrapped arms around Octavia instead. Octavia hugged her back fiercely. "I'm glad you're okay," she whispered. Glad my brother doesn't have to lose another person he cares about. Clarke had smiled back, and Octavia saw a light in her eyes, and realized this was Clarke happy. Really and truly happy.
From that moment on, Octavia had made it her sisterly duty to ensure that her brother would get his happiness.
a/n: I just had to get this out. I know it's short. It's just that that episode really killed me, and now we have to wait two whole weeks for another one!
