Tadashi slept peacefully on his new bed. He hadn't been able to sleep for months since his parents' death. Aunt Cass got their custody, of him and his little brother, Hiro, and they came to live with her. She was sweet and caring, she made the best cookies and she was always there for them. But not even she could vanish he pain that caused the loss of their parents. The worst part was that little Hiro was in that car crash. He miraculously survived but he had witness it all. Aunt Cass tried almost every psychologist and therapist in San Fransokyo. It helped, but it was not enough for the little boy. Almost every night, Hiro would have nightmares of the loss of their parents. Tadashi had decided to share a room with Hiro because of that.
So yeah. After months of sleepless nights of comforting Hiro, all he wanted was some sleep.
And today was not going to be one of those nights.
Tadashi groaned into his pillow as he heard sobbing and sniffing coming from behind his back. He opened his tired eyes and faced the clock. 2: 13 a.m.
He sighed and turned around. He did not get up.
Little three years and a half Hiro stood there, hugging a teddy bear and sniffing. His face was a little red and his chubby cheeks were stained by fresh tears.
Tadashi sighed and motioned Hiro to lay beside him. Hiro eagerly climbed up the bed and cradled towards Tadashi. Hiro rested his head over Tadashi's arm and hugged his teddy bear. Tadashi ruffled a little his little brother's crow nest of a hair. Hiro sniffed a little bit. Tadashi didn't had to ask what the nightmare was about.
Hiro snuggled more into Tadashi's neck. But then, he asked something that the older Hamada did not expected. "What would happen if you were gone too?"
Tadashi stared down at his little brother in shock. "What do you mean?" He found himself asking.
"What if you died like mom and dad? What would I do? Don't leave me alone! I don't want to be alone, Dashi!" Hiro's voice cracked a little, like he was about to cry again.
Tadashi thought about it. Hiro was right. What would happen if he was gone?
"I… I don't know." That seemed that it was the wrong answer, because Hiro started sniffing again. Tadashi panicked, searched for another thing to say. "I… I mean…" He sighed. "Look, Hiro. You're too young to think of this things."
Hiro looked at Tadashi. "But I can't help it, Nii-chan!"
Tadashi tried his best to look confident. "I won't leave you, little brother. You got me."
"But about… in the future?"
Tadashi smiled at his little brother. "Don't worry. You'll have me for a long time. And if I can't be there with you physically, you'll have me here," Tadashi touched Hiro forehead, making the small toddler giggle. "…and here." He touched Hiro's chest, were his heart was.
Hiro touched his heart. "In my heart? Like mom and dad?" Tadashi nodded. Hiro smiled. "Ok."
Tadashi inwardly sighed in relief. Hiro snuggled again on Tadashi's arm and minutes later, he felt asleep. Tadashi looked up at the ceiling, waiting for sleep to take over.
He just hoped what he said was true.
Hey! Just a little oneshot of toddler!Hiro and protective!Tadashi. I couldn't help myself. Anyway, the title for this fic was inspired by the song 'You Got Me' from Gavin DeGraw from Dolphin Tale 2. Amazing song, by the way.
