Chapter 27: Fading memories - One day, one question, one answer.

Another extremely short 2 am drabble that wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it down.

"Hak, do you remember my mother?"

He isn't surprised by the question. She always asks him this. Every year on this day since he came to live in the castle, and he always gives the same answer. Because the difference in how much a nine-year-old and a six-year-old can recall is not something to scoff at. He runs his fingers through his hair and sighs before he answers.

"Yeah, a bit. She was quiet but nice. Always had candy for me," he says before sighing again. "You look a lot like her, you know."

"Except the hair," she comments.

"Except the hair," he agrees.

"Hak?"

"Hm? Yes, Princess?" he answers, surprised. This isn't a part of their yearly routine.

"Do you remember your parents?"

Added Authors Note on 11/04/2018:

I normally don't do this, but I so badly wanted to reply to the latest review, so I'm writing this on the last chapter in the hope that anonymous will eventually see this:

I have so much I would like to say to you, but firstly: Thank you so much for taking the time to review my WYG collection! Don't ever think that just because it's not updated for a while or marked as 'complete' you will bother the writer. I am thrilled that people still read and find my collection and like what they read! I love seeing new 'favourites' and 'follows' even though the collection is on permanent hold, and your review was the sweetest thing I have ever received, your encouragement and kindness brightened my day! I literally made a small dance when I read it.

Which leads me to the next subject to address, your English is fantastic! Way better than mine, lol. I actually wrote those first one-shots a long time ago (to put a date on them: I was pregnant when I wrote C 9, and my son is almost three now ). If anything I look back at those early fics, and cringe at my own writing. Never yours, sweet anon.

Furthermore, I'm so incredibly honoured that you see me as an inspiration, those words were beyond amazing to receive, and I really hope that you will keep on writing. Real life is often challenging but we all write when we have the time. Some periods we might not write anything at all, and some periods the words just won't stop flowing.

If you would like to talk to me, but prefer to stay anon, please don't be afraid to send an ask to my inbox (you don't have to be a member to do so) on Tumblr (my pseudo there is trolldockan) and we can chat there. I would love to hear a bit of what you are working on.

I know that you might never see this, but I'm still adding it in the hopes that I can reassure you that you are absolutely not a bother, your English is great, and I was absolutely floored by your kindness. I wish you the best in your future endeveaours!
