Burn

Official Disclaimer

The characters of Lieutenant Commander Steven 'Steve' McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua, Adam 'Toast' Charles, Governor Patricia Jameson and Detective Meka Hanamoa, do not belong to me in any shape or form. I am merely using them for my own entertainment purposes.

The character of Detective Sergeant Danielle 'Danni' Williams probably can be considered to be mine by now. Although she was originally based on male Danny, she soon evolved becoming her own person. She has her own background, her own family, her own history and her own distinct personality. This isn't to say that the Danny Williams we all know and love is completely gone, he still emerges through her at times. I like to think of female Danni as what Danny could have been if everything in his life had gone his way. As in full custody of Grace and a decent relationship with his ex.

The character of Grace has also changed slightly due to the change in Danni. Her surname is Taylor as this is her father's surname and was Danni's married name (Danni reverted back to her maiden name when she was divorced). Her parents also are amicable which has also impacted Grace but never fear, she's still the sweetheart we know and love, if anything she's more a sweetheart now.

The character of Supervisory Special Agent Jack O'Connor, however does belong to me as does any other character who you do not recognise from the show. Please do not use them, or my version of Danni and Grace without first asking for my permission to do so.

Author Note

Welcome to the fifth story in the ongoing Main saga which is also known as the Danni Saga.

If you've joined me from either 'The Beginning' or 'Family' or from the two one shots then thank you very much for sticking with this saga, I really appreciate it more than you can know. If you haven't read the previous two stories though and are coming into this completely fresh than I would strongly urge you to go back and read those other stories first otherwise this one what make sense.

This story is the first one in the saga which is not based on an actual episode from the show and is instead referred to by myself as a missing case saga, so one which happened between the episodes. This one is a great deal darker than the first two so please be aware of that.

There will be plenty of McDanni moments throughout the story as well as plenty of character development.

Anyway, please enjoy!

Another note

I do not have a Beta so please forgive any mistakes which may creep in, I always do my best to edit the story and check it but sometimes mistakes do creep in.

The places I've mentioned in Hawaii are ones which come from google, including the addresses. I've never been to Hawaii myself in person so I apologise for any mistakes which I may make, these are not intentional.

Prologue

Fire, Fire burning bright

He liked being close to the fire while it burned, barely able to resist the temptation to reach out and touch it, just to see if the flames would burn him, marking him with their touch, every time he was near.

He liked being able to see his own handiwork in the flesh, the red and oranges colour lulling him into a peaceful state of relaxation, his thoughts always drifting back to the previous months he would have spent planning this, the small touches he would do to ensure that this time it would be perfect. He could imagine the way the victims inside must be feeling, the fire all around them, coming nearer, the heat singeing them while they lay still, unable to crawl away or even open their mouth to scream for help.

Once upon a time he had let them scream, those sounds music to his ears, but the chance of them being overheard was too much of a risk, he had lost some victims because of those screams, because they had been overheard and he was determined that it was a mistake he wouldn't allow to again.

He was always learning from his mistakes.

It was an addiction for him, one which he wasn't in control of but one which he embraced all the same. When the urge called, he always answered it.

It amused him when he thought back to his first kill, the one which had started it all and the only one which was still a legitimate accident. He had been a mere kid, no order then twelve, with no real idea what he was doing. All he had been interested in was watching the flames dance in front of his eyes, reflecting on the water beneath the large boat. It wasn't until he had heard the screams that he realised that the boat he had thought was empty, had someone in it, someone who was now burning alive.

He should have been horrified but instead he felt a thrill of excitement, the like that he had never felt before, and had stood rooting to the spot, watching until long after the screams had faded away leaving nothing but the crackling sound, he found so soothing. It hadn't of been until the approaching sound of sirens that he had turned and ran back to his home, slipping in and back into his bed before anyone had even realised, he had been out.

From that day on he had worked on perfecting his art while maintaining the act of being a normal kid and adult. He learned how to choose his victims, learned their routine and had began to befriend them so he could ensure that his plan would be easier to accomplish, the thrill he felt when someone who he had befriended burned consumed him, changing his methods so that he always friended them, liking the look of betrayal in their eyes when they realised what he was planning on doing.

It still amazed him that he had never been caught and how it had taken until he was an adult for anyone to start suspecting him of starting the fires. A fact he had used to his advantage before he had moved on.

Everywhere he went, he would start the routine again, burning and killing until he was suspected then he would change his name, change his story and move onto the next state to begin all over again.

All he cared about was the fire and making sure that the flames would take as many victims as he could offer it.

Nothing else would satisfy him and no one would be able to catch him or stop him from achieving his life goal.

He would make sure of that.
