Summary- Angst One-Shot. When Emma has had enough of the lies and deceit from her parents, she seeks comfort in Killian. Set around 4.16- "Best Laid Plans".
AN: So with everything that's going on with the show right now I have a feeling shit is about to hit the fan and this is kind of just a glimpse of Emma losing it when she finds out people are keeping things from her. Emma is a very closed off person and having this happen to her will only cause her to completely shut down and this in turn I think is how she is going to go to the dark side. So again, just a tiny glimpse of that. Enjoy! (Be kind it has been a while since I've written anything, I have half-finished works everywhere).
Secrets and Lies
Killian was stirred from his half attempted slumber by a ruckus on the deck of his newly returned ship- his Jolly. Never a peaceful sleeper from his years of captaining a ship on rocky waters he pulled himself out of bed and quickly stepped into his shoes which he stored conveniently by his bedside for cases such as these.
Not bothering with a shirt, he held his hook at the ready, poised to strike at a moments notice and slowly crept up the dimly lit ladder to the deck when he was met by a shadowy figure emerging from the entrance into his cabin.
Killian raised his weapon, the metal glinting off the stars that shined through the window.
Emma peered down below cautiously, squinting in the darkness as she called out, "Killian?"
His shoulders sank and he took a deep breath of relief as she appeared from beyond the shadows, his hook falling at his waist side casually to greet her. "Very unwise of you to sneak up on a pirate lass." He jeered, his voice slightly exasperated.
Emma stopped, her hand poised at the railing with a step separating them and sniffled as her hand sought out his amidst the darkness. She felt around blindly for his hand until she came in contact with the cold metal of his rings and turned her head, the sobs which she had fought off for so long catching in her throat.
His face dropped the sarcastic façade of the pirate and quickly morphed into one of concern, "Emma?"
"I'm sorry," she sniffled again, her fingertips gently raking against the top of his hand, "I didn't know where to go." She confessed, her voice broken and pained as hot tears slowly began to slide down her face.
Killian quickly shushed her, closing the distance between them and hauling her straight into his warm, protective embrace, his hand drawing soothing circles against her lower back.
Her head fell limp in the hallow of his neck, her breathy sobs making his stomach churn. Never in his life had ever seen Emma this distraught before.
Gently, he lifted her face from his shoulder and gazed upon her tear stricken face checking for signs of injury. "Are you alright?"
She nodded solemnly, being careful to not meet his eye as he continued to look her over.
"Is Henry alright?" He asked, failing to hide his apprehension.
"Yes. Yes Henry is fine." She dismissed wanting to ease his sudden tension.
"Swan, you're scaring me. What has you put out of sorts?"
Emma lowered her head shamefully and shook hard, "It's nothing. It's nothing."
"Love, you are inconsolable, it's not nothing." He pleaded, his eyes the bluest she had ever seen them.
"They're keeping things from me Killian." She cried, the force in which said aloud giving way to more uncontrollable tears. "I feel like I'm walking around egg shells around them." She hiccupped.
Killian's face fell, his eyes closing in silent reprimand for the secret he was harboring along with her parents.
"Killian?" She starred at him in an attempt to read his expression.
Carefully, he lifted his conflicted face, a sorrowful look marring his handsome features as he pulled away from her, his feet resting on the floor instead of mid-step on the ladder.
"No." She denied, shaking her head violently as if she could dispel the truth. "No." She whined, her shoulders beginning to shake. "Not you too."
His heart skipped a beat at that, the betrayal weighing heavy in her words. "Emma…" He started towards, his hand outstretched.
"No!" She hissed. "No. You are the last person I thought would do this to me." Her words were quiet but the tone was enough to put anyone out of straights. "How could they lie to me? How could you lie to me?"
"I never-"
"No! You don't get to turn this around. You are just as guilty for keeping whatever it is they are hiding from me!" She shrieked, the tears drying on her face. "I trusted you and I allowed myself to be completely vulnerable with you!" She berated herself agonizingly. "Everyone I have ever allowed in has done this to me!" She squeaked.
"No. No," He charged towards her and drawing her back into his arms as she fought and clawed against him in retaliation. "You built those walls up to keep people out and you are not going to put them back up." He chided as she struggled against him.
"Let go of me!" She cried, beating her fists against his chest. "Let go!" She whined before suddenly collapsing into his arms in a fit of unruly broken sobs.
"If I or your parents decided to keep something from you, you have to believe it's for your own good. They love you. I, love you and I will not lose you because of this." He said intently over her sobs. "The truth, the truth would absolutely destroy you. It would take away everything that made you, you. I love you anyway I am able to have you Emma, but this would defeat you. You have to trust me that it's better for you not to know." He implored, his own emotion rising up and threatening to spill out.
"Promise me you won't keep pursuing this Swan. I can't-"
"I am not strong enough to lose you again." He blurted out, his voice raw.
"You won't lose me, I promise." She vowed into his shoulder, sinking into the warmth that lingered against his skin.
"You are the only thing in my life worth living for. Don't take away my reason for living." He said into her hair, deftly stroking her golden locks with his fingertips.
"I love you." She whispered into his neck.
"You are my happy ending Swan."
