The clock had just chimed, telling the silent apartment that it was officially midnight, while the brightly lit moon outside was high in the sky, taking the sun's place for the night as always. Everybody in New York City and Manhattan was sound asleep, while Sherman Peabody was still wide-awake in his bed, wanting to fall asleep so he could be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning. The boy was to turn 11 tomorrow (technically today), and all his friends were going to come over for his birthday party. But he just couldn't fall asleep to save his life.

He sat up in his bed and reached for his glasses and a pencil over on the nightstand next to the bed. Might as well draw. The boy thought, grabbing a piece of paper and a clipboard, too. Maybe drawing will help me fall asleep, and besides you usually come up with the best ideas at 12:00 in the morning.

When the clock had chimed 12:30, Sherman was almost sound asleep, his glasses still on and a halfway finished drawing on his lap. Then, at the foot of his bed, appeared a young woman with messy red hair and huge angel wings looking almost like a ghost. Sherman slowly opened his big brown eyes to look at the woman. What he didn't realize at first was the young woman was the angel-ly image of his dead mother.

She smiled at her son as he sat up in bed with a slight confused expression on his face. And even before he could ask who she was and all, she said to him, "Hi, Sherman. You probably don't recognize me at all, You were only a baby when we last saw each other."

"W-what do you mean?" The boy asked her, still as confused as ever.

"What I mean is that I'm the one who left in a box in an alleyway, 11 years ago. I'm the one who didn't want to put you there in the first place, but I had too. I'm the one who put in that box so you could live in hopes of finding a better family than I would ever be. Don't you see, I'm your mother, Sherman."

Sherman just sat there, not knowing what to say. His mother simply smiled and continued on.

"I bet you have tons of questions, so please don't be afraid to ask them, sweetie. But before you do, I want to say this. I've been watching over you ever since I died. I saw you grow into a fine young man you are today. You're very lucky to have Mr Peabody as a father, he has really taken care of you and love you as if you were his own. And I mean it when I say it, there hasn't been a day that I haven't wanted to come back to life and embrace you in a hug."

The boy was almost in tears by the time she finished. So was his mother. All Sherman wanted to do at the moment was go over, hug her and tell her everything that he could about himself. His mother saw this in his expression, went over right beside him and pulled him into a motherly hug.

Sherman hugged her back and smiled.

"I must leave now Sherman, before we start talking about anything and everything. I'm so sorry, sweetie but I'll be back again someday. Oh and one more thing, Sherman dear," She said to her son

The boy looked up at her with tears in his eyes, not wanting her to leave.

"I will always love you, forever and always."

Why I did write this? Why why why?

I don't like sappy endings like this one, but yet I write this.
