Warrior Cat Cody: Hey there, everyone, and welcome back to Pokémon Battle Island! I've been working on a new Pokémon story about autism, but I've been sidetracked from that as well. And that's also because I've got a book to write and then publish.

But I'm gonna continue writing FanFiction stories as much as I can. And that's about it on the subject for now.

Treecko vs Starly! An Old Friend?

"Will Treecko please come to the arena?"

Treecko looked a bit towards the ring, where many Pokémon had gathered. They were all staying in benches all along the rows, though some more (most likely swimmers or levitating creatures) were floating. Some Pokémon were even handing out drinks, snacks, and souveniers to be fed and entertained during the match.

Well Treecko, this is your first official match, he told himself, holding a hand over his beating heart. I'm gonna show everyone what I can do. Now let's go out there and kick some butt!

So he stepped out into the arena, and the same cheers from before erupted from the audience. Across from Treecko was the same Starly hopping from side to side, flapping her wings and sending up sand.

"Hey!" she called as she noticed him. "Good to see you here, Treecko! You wanna rematch?"

"Yeah," Treecko called back. He wanted to fight either her or Zigzagoon to get his wounded pride back, and Starly was the one available right now. "I'm ready."

Then the referee stepped out, a male Beartic with scars on his forelimbs. He held up a paw, calling, "These are the rules. This is a one-on-one match, no interference allowed unless a life is on the line. No use of items like potions during the battle, but you can use held items and any tricks buried under the sand. And there is to be no dirty tricks; it results in a disqualification." He held up both hands this time and growled, "Fighters! Make your poses!"

As he finished, Treecko and Starly took their poses. Treecko was sure Starly would use the air as her weapon since she could fly up at any time.

"Now...BEGIN!" Beartic roared.

Immediately, Starly took to the air, just out of Treecko's reach. Treecko leered up at the Starling Pokémon, and she flinched a little, Leer's effect working. But Starly shook it off and dived straight for him, her wings extended, and she delivered a flurry of pecks on his head. Treecko hissed in pain and raised a fist, pushing her away from him.

"What a swift start for Starly!" Farfetch'd yelled from the commentator's booth. "A quick use of pecking, and Treecko's already feeling the heat!"

Tauros snorted. "Good. That little brat deserves it."

Sudowoodo glanced at him. "You really hate that kid, don't ya, Tauros?"

"I actually kinda don't blame him," Farfetch'd said with a quiver of his feathers. "No newcomer deserves to be treated the way Hydreigon did to them."

"How dare you!" Tauros snapped. "Hydreigon is our champion! No one ever talks bad about a champion! You better show him some respect!"

"How can we when you're both jerks?" Sudowoodo asked.

Before Tauros could retort, Starly had charged at Treecko with a Wing Attack, catching him off guard. Treecko was carried off his feet before making her let go with a Pound. So Treecko kicked up some sand, briefly stunning Starly, before he leaped at her and smacked her away with his tail. She gave an empowered chirp and flew right at her foe, but Treecko ducked beneath her and aimed for her underside, using Absorb to sap some of her health.

Then Starly whacked him hard with her wing, and Treecko retaliated with a Pound to bat her away from him. Starly flew back, panting, before diving at him with Peck, but it wasn't as effective as it was before. Treecko saw that she was getting tired from all the fighting, hovering slightly over the ground. With a battle cry, Treecko leaped over and slammed his tail at Starly, pushing her over to the other side of the battlefield.

Starly flapped her wings and got back up to fight. She chirped and flew at Treecko with wings spread wide, and Treecko tried swiping sand at her. The starling Pokémon blew the sand away and darted forward, giving Treecko a few jabs, which he retaliated with a Pound attack. At one point, he gave her face a powerful slap of his tail, causing her to bounce back to the other side of the battlefield.

He waited for Starly to get up and fight again. She didn't, for she had been knocked out.

"Folks, Starly is unable to fight!" Beartic roared. "Treecko wins!"

At once, the crowd rose up and roared their approval, chanting "Treecko! Treecko!" Treecko stared around in surprise at first and then into joy and pride. He had won the first round, his first true battle. He gave an excited cheer and pumped his fist in the air, smiling and gazing around at the crowd.

"Great fight!" Starly called from the other side of the arena, standing up. "And congrats on the win!"

Treecko nodded with a smile. "Thanks!"

"Treecko will be moving on to the second round in the tournament," came the voice of Farfetch'd over the megaphone. "And that concludes the first part of this tournament. Next week, we will start the second round of the tournament, and it will go on for a few more weeks. So get training, Pokémon!"

Once again, cheers rang throughout the stadium, and Treecko smiled. After having failed at practice, it felt good to actually win at something for once. With a wave to the crowd, he started walking away from them and towards the locker rooms.

A few minutes passed by before he finally got refreshed and stepped out of the showers, heading out of the locker room. But as soon as he stepped out, he had come across two of the commentators.

"You did great out there, kid," Sudowoodo said with a grin. "First time too, right?"

"Yes sir," Treecko replied.

Sudowoodo nodded with approval. "Keep up the great work! I'm sure you'll go far with that spirit!"

Next to Sudowoodo, Tauros snorted grumpily. "I gotta admit, you did okay. You got guts, and I can respect someone who's got guts. But now that Starly is a loser!"

"Hey, that ain't fair, Tauros," Sudowoodo said with a frown. "She did her best like those who lost did."

"But those Pokémon lost!" Tauros snapped. "It doesn't matter if they did their best; what matters now is that they lost. So yes, they're losers!"

Treecko had been watching Starly enter from the side after having been patched up from the battle. She must have heard Tauros insult her and the others who lost in the tournament, for she looked offended. He was liking Tauros a lot less than Hydreigon now.

"Hey, you better watch it!" Treecko snapped back. "I fought Starly, and she and the others did their best like Sudowoodo said. You got a problem with that, and we can fight in the arena!"

Tauros spun around at him, threateningly waving his horns at him. But since the other Pokémon were crowding around them, he could do nothing but grumble and mutter as he stormed off. Sudowoodo followed him, giving Treecko a friendly wave before hurrying off.

Feeling better, Treecko spun around on his heel and headed out of the stadium. He was out of the building and took one last look at it, the sunlight glinting off of the blue stadium. He could always come back and see some sparring between two other Pokémon, but he would have to wait for a little while until they would fight again next week.

You just wait, Fire Master, Treecko thought in delight, looking up to the sky. I'll be the champion this year, and I'll uphold your legacy!

...

Treecko met up with his friends back at the hotel's cafeteria. The lunch for today was spaghetti with meat sauce, corn, rolls of bread, a chocolate pie with a Pecha berry on top, and milk. He had spent much of their lunchtime talking about how the battle went, and the others had their tales to tell. The shiny Gardevoir did not join them this time, so Pikachu was there with them once again. He would be around until the rookies got used to the island, and he would be back teaching more rookies.

"Miss Gardevoir said that I did really good in the first round of the contest," Leavanny was telling the other Pokémon. "I had put Sunny Day and Solar Beam together to pull off an amazing combination. It was beautiful."

"That's great!" Roggenrola said, hopping up and down. "Though Bidoof and I were the slowest in the Hurdle Dash, and Coach Loudred yelled at us."

"Don't worry about Coach Loudred. He yells at everyone; it's what he does to motivate you," Pikachu assured him. "Anyway, congrats, everyone, on your first day on the island. And Treecko and Chimchar, congrats for getting past the first round in the tournament."

"Thanks!" Treecko and Chimchar said with smiles.

"Roggenrola, you did your best in the Poké-athelon," Pikachu said. "Though as you said you're slow in Hurdle Dash, keep trying. Everyone starts out with Hurdle Dash, and you'll get there eventually."

Roggenrola tilted his head down. "Aw, shucks," he mumbled, nudging his foot to the ground. "You're making me blush."

How can he blush? Treecko thought in confusion, sharing a look with Chimchar. He doesn't have a face!

Suddenly, a loud alarm rang out throughout the cafeteria, making the Pokémon look around wildly. Pikachu and Gardevoir didn't flinch as they gathered with the other Pokémon outside, and Treecko and his group went after them. When they got outside, the sky looking overcast now, they noticed a trio of Skarmory flying around in circles just near the beach. Far away, it looked as if they were Mandibuzz that had found an easy meal.

"Downed Pokémon! Downed Pokémon!" the Armor Bird Pokémon screeched down to the crowd. "Can the following Pokémon come along to the docks? Treecko, Lady Gardevoir, Officer Bisharp, and Nurse Chansey?"

Treecko watched Gardevoir break away from the crowd, followed by Bisharp and Chansey. He did not know what went on, but he went after them to find out what got the island in a fuss. But when they all got to the beach, he gasped in surprise.

A young Mudkip was lying unconscious on the ground, scratch marks on his body. There were small patches of purple that indicated poison, perhaps some Wurmple stings. Treecko was wondering where he had seen this young Pokémon before when someone gave a gasp. Mudkip was waking up.

"Tr-Treecko?" Mudkip suddenly rasped, opening his eyes. "Th-That you?"

Mudkip?" Treecko asked. "The same Mudkip from Professor Birch's lab?"

Mudkip nodded weakly before fainting.

Behind him, someone yelled, "Someone get that Mudkip to Nurse Chansey, on the double!"

A Delibird waddled over to Mudkip, picked him up carefully, and stored him in its thick tail. Then it put the end of its tail in its beak and lifted off, followed by the crowd of awaiting Pokémon below. On the ground, Treecko ran off after them, wondering how this all happened.

How did Mudkip end up all the way out in the ocean and to the island? That was something

"You can't go up there right now," Officer Bisharp told Treecko sharply. "Once Nurse Chansey is finished healing your friend's wounds, then you can get up there."

Treecko glared mutinously at the Dark/Steel type, but Bisharp's look was sharper. He rejoined Chimchar, who was looking over at him from the hotel lobby, and the chimp Pokémon had an unusually solemn look on his face.

"Did you know him?" Chimchar asked when Treecko sat down, handing him a soda can.

Treecko took the can, but he did not feel thirsty right now. "Yeah, I knew him at the Littleroot lab," he said. "Mudkip was always a kind of shy guy. What's he doing all the way out here?"

Chimchar patted Treecko on the shoulder. "He'll pull through, don't worry. Anyway, I'm off to get the list of who we'll fight next in the tournament." He got up and started to head to the entrance of the hotel. "I hope Mudkip gets better soon, buddy," he said before he left.

Treecko watched him go, thinking, I hope so too. Come on, Arceus, let Mudkip be okay! Treecko thought as the Delibird started delivering food up to the hospital room.

To be continued...

Wildstar93: There we go, everyone, this chapter is done at last! I'm sorry I hadn't gotten any time to upload this sooner; I was working on other stuff. I appreciate constructive criticism as long as you're polite about it, so if I get anything wrong, let me know and I'll fix it.

A previous chapter said that I couldn't wait until Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire came out. The same is said for Sun and Moon versions. And I wonder what the name of those two new ones are called. The Normal/Fighting type reminds me of a Care Bear or something like that, and that Ghost/Fairy type looks really interesting.

See ya next time!
