"What's wrong with you?" Mi Nam asked when he found his sister sitting on the patio and sightlessly staring into the distance.
"I don't... Oppa, is the world still turning?" Mi Nyu asked her brother. "It feels like time has stopped. And I can't... I can't breathe."
At this statement, Mi Nam's stomach twisted. Because the time stopping and being unable to breathe thing? That was exactly what happened to him the first time he saw Yoo He Yi.
"When did you begin to feel this way?" he asked suspiciously.
"It was... It started right after Tae Kyung and I finished our run. We were stretching, and Tae Kyung... He..."
At his sister's disjointed explanation, Mi Nam had to hold back the urge to punch something or scream.
He had been expecting this. He'd been waiting for it, encouraging it, even, in his own subtle way.
The sad fact was that Mi Nyu's love for her brother wasn't enough to keep her from going to Rome and becoming a nun. But maybe, if she had a relationship with Tae Kyung, that love would be enough to keep her from leaving. If she had Tae Kyung, and her brother, and A.N. Jell... maybe that would be enough to keep her in Seoul, near him.
The reality of the situation was much different from theory, though.
Tae Kyung hadn't even done anything yet, and Mi Nam had the urge to punch the guy.
With a sigh, Mi Nam stood. "I can't do this," he declared.
Startled, Mi Nyu glanced up at him and asked, "What?"
"I can not talk to you about Tae Kyung. I'm... I'm going out. I'll be back latter."
"Oppa?" Mi Nyu asked, watching in confusion as her brother quickly made his way into the house. "I don't... What's wrong? I don't understand..."
Mi Nam was already gone, though, and Mi Nyu was left to puzzle out this strange new feeling on her own.
Shin Woo caught Mi Nam as he was making his way towards his car.
"Where are you going?" Shin Woo asked.
"I'm going to go see Yoo He Yi," Mi Nam answered with an aggravated sigh.
Wasn't it sad that his first instinct when he'd gotten upset was to find Tae Kyung to talk with? He certainly couldn't talk Tae Kyung about his sister, though, just like he couldn't talk to his sister about Tae Kyung. Thus, Mi Nam decided to find Yoo He Yi, instead.
Mi Nam wasn't sure about how Yoo He Yi would handle discussing real feelings about a situation that didn't directly involve her, but he figured that talking to her was better than keeping all of this confusion and anger bottled up inside.
"You're going to see Yoo He Yi about Tae Kyung and your sister?" Shin Woo confirmed, and Mi Nam froze.
"You... You know?" Mi Nam asked.
"I heard you talking with your sister while you were on the balcony," Shin Woo explained with a gentle smile.
At this admission, Mi Nam exhaled and slumped against the wall. "Shin Woo, you have to help me!" Mi Nam declared.
"Of course. I mean, if you don't like the idea of Tae Kyung dating your sister-"
"That's not it! I think that they should date! If Mi Nyu has someone to love, and I mean really love, then maybe she won't want to leave for Rome! And besides, she and Tae Kyung would be really good for each other. Logically, I understand that. But at the same time, I really can't stand the idea of anyone dating Mi Nyu, and.. and you know what?! I don't want to be involved in my sister's love life! Shin Woo, you have to help me!"
For a few moments, Shin Woo stared at Mi Nam, stricken. "Honestly? Go Mi Nam, I can't lie to you. I can't stand the idea of Tae Kyung dating Mi Nyu, either."
At this announcement, Mi Nam was left to stare at Shin Woo in confusion. Because why not? Tae Kyung and Mi Nyu would be perfect together! Any idiot could see that! Unless Shin Woo felt the same way that Mi Nam did, and didn't like the idea of someone he saw as a sister dating...
Except... Shin Woo didn't think of Mi Nyu as a sister.
It took a few moments for Mi Nam to understand what exactly Shin Woo was implying. Then, it took him a few moments longer to understand that Shin Woo was confessing his feelings for Mi Nyu, and he was confessing in a way that implied that he wanted Mi Nam's approval.
"Son of a bitch," Mi Nam snarled.
Then, he attacked.
Jeremy was the one who noticed the commotion and came to break up their fight.
"Hey!" Jeremy cried, quickly moving to pull his two band mates apart from where they were rolling around on the floor. "Hey! What is going on?!"
It took time and effort, because Mi Nam was angry, and despite his slight build, he was strong, but Jeremy was eventually able to pull Mi Nam off of Shin Woo.
"Mi Nam, what has gotten into you?" Jeremy cried as he restrained a struggling Mi Nam from again attacking Shin Woo, who was pulling himself off of the floor and clutching at his bruised jaw.
"That ass hole wants to make a move on my sister!" Mi Nam snarled.
In response, Jeremy froze.
In response to Jeremy's response, Mi Nam froze as well.
"Are you... are you serious?" Mi Nam snarled. Abruptly pushing away from Jeremy, he cried, "I'm calling a house meeting, now!"
Stuttering, Jeremy asked, "Wait, are you going to tell your sister about this?!"
"No! And Tae Kyung isn't going to be involved either! But the three of us are going to have a little discussion, got it?"
"Mi Nam-" Shin Woo began to say, but Mi Nam cut him off before he could continue.
"Not one word!" Mi Nam declared. "Not until I've had some time to think! Now here's what we're going to do. We are going to drive to Yoo He Yi's apartment, in separate vehicles, and we are going to set some ground rules. Damn it, I should have done this at the beginning, when Mi Nyu agreed to move in with me. But if we have to do it now... then so be it."
"You know what?" Shin Woo said quietly. "Yeah, we are going to talk about this."
Jeremy realized that Shin Woo was just as angry as Mi Nam, and he sighed. Because apparently, this was going to be a thing. "Okay," he quietly agreed. "Just... no more fighting, okay?"
"We'll see," Mi Nam answered.
Yoo He Yi watched in fascination as the three members of A.N. Jell made themselves comfortable in her living room.
She'd met Jeremy and Shin Woo a few times before when going to the agency to meet Mi Nam, of course, and Mi Nam had once told her about how easily men fell in love with his sister. But she thought he was just being an overprotective brother and seeing enemies in the shadows where there were none.
"If anyone goes out with my sister, it will be Tae Kyung," Mi Nam stated as soon as everyone had taken their seats.
"Hey!" Jeremy argued. "That's not fair!"
"You can't make that decision for Mi Nyu," Shin Woo agreed.
"I didn't make that decision!" Mi Nam replied. "Shin Woo, you were there. You heard Mi Nyu say that she was in love with Tae Kyung. And you heard her more or less say that she didn't understand her feelings! This whole thing is probably really overwhelming for her right now! You can't seriously be saying that you're going to make it even worse by declaring yourself to her!"
"Why would that be making it worse?!" Shin Woo argued. "Why would it be so horrible for me to date her?"
"Because she doesn't love you! And she's too nice to lead you on! Shin Woo, she would turn you down the instant you told her, and she would see how much that hurt you, and then she would just feel horrible. Are you telling me that you want to make Mi Nyu feel horrible?"
"Mi Nam, you can't know it would happen like that," Jeremy argued. "You can't use that as an argument!"
"Well," Yoo He Yi said slowly, because after hearing all of this, there was still one thing that she didn't understand. "Why is it okay for your sister to date Tae Kyung, but not Shin Woo or Jeremy?"
The three men turned to stare at Yoo He Yi for a moment, and heat began to rise to her cheeks when she realized that they had forgotten she was there.
"Hey, yeah!" Jeremy agreed. "Why is it okay for her to date Tae Kyung and not either of us!"
"Because I really like you guys!" Mi Nam cried.
"What?" Shin Woo asked.
"What?" Yoo He Yi snarled.
"You mean... like..." Jeremy blinked in confusion, and then his expression began to twist in distaste.
"No! Not like that!" Mi Nam rushed to say. "I like Yoo He Yi!"
Yoo He Yi blinked. Because even though Mi Nam used to say that he liked her five times a day every day, in the past few weeks, he had made no indication that he liked her at all, and hearing him say that again was... really nice, actually.
"Then what do you mean?" Jeremy pressed.
"You like us, but you don't like Tae Kyung?" Shin Woo asked. "Why would you be okay with him dating your sister, then?"
"Stop twisting my words!" Mi Nam demanded. "This whole thing started because I'm not okay with anyone dating my sister, remember?! No, it's just that... I like all of you, but Tae Kyung is my best friend. You two are... you're more like my brothers."
"We're like what?" Shin Woo and Jeremy said at the same time.
"That's it!" Mi Nam said, nodding in certainty when he had defined how he felt. "Shin Woo and Jeremy feel like my brothers, but Tae Kyung is my best friend. And since Mi Nyu is my sister, the idea of one of my brothers dating my sister is just..."
"In that case... Shin Woo and Jeremy just have to think of Mi Nyu as their sister, too, right?" Yoo He Yi put in.
Shin Woo sighed. "Mi Nam, I'm sorry, but I don't think..."
"You have to," Mi Nam argued. "Seriously, guys, if I can't trust either of you with my sister..."
"When you put it like that," Jeremy pouted. "And besides... You're right. I don't want to create drama or make things hard for Mi Nyu. If she's in love with Tae Kyung like you say..."
"And hey, keep that on the down low, okay?" Mi Nam sighed. "I don't think she even knows that it's love just yet. Come on, guys, please? I think of you as family. So you should think of Mi Nyu and I as family, too."
"I can't just turn my feelings off," Shin Woo argued once again.
And Mi Nam sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry. Just... Try, okay? Keep telling yourself that Mi Nyu is your sister. You don't have to stop loving her or caring about her. Just... don't date her."
Shin Woo and Jeremy's eyes met. The two of them had a brief, silent conversation, and then together, they sighed.
"Fine," Jeremy muttered.
"We'll try," Shin Woo promised. "But if it doesn't work..."
"We'll revisit the conversation at a latter time," Mi Nam declared. "All I ask is that you try!"
"Deal."
Yoo He Yi watched as the three men shook on it and began heading back to the dorms.
When Shin Woo and Jeremy were gone, she asked Mi Nam, "Do you really like me, like you said?"
"Nah. You're rude and selfish and vain," Mi Nam answered.
Then, completely contradicting the statement he had just made, he kissed her.
Yoo He Yi could only stand there, frozen, as Mi Nam pressed his lips to her's. Even as she was frozen in shock, though, she could feel Mi Nam's lips pull up in a smile.
When he finally pulled away, he told her, "Thanks for letting me and the guys hash this out at your place. And thanks for the advice. Your idea was really good – better than any I'd had, anyways. Well, I should be getting home. See you around, Yoo He Yi!"
Finally jarring out of her stupor, Yoo He Yi said, "Mi Nam, wait! You don't really think that I'm rude and vain, do you? You wouldn't talk to me if you did!"
If he heard her question, he didn't acknowledge it, and a moment later he was gone.
"Ugh! I can't stand him!" Yoo He Yi snarled.
However, despite her declaration, her lips were still tingling from his kiss.
