On the seafloor, a group of scuba divers swam into a large underwater cave. As fish scattered in all directions with their arrival, the beams of the divers torches shone on the white sandy floor of the cave. A few crabs scurried to and fro, uncovering something metallic and shiny.
One diver separated from the group while the others explored the cave, hovering just a few inches off the sand. Waving her hand, the diver blew the debris away, revealing the shiny object. It appeared to be the figurine of a dolphin, made from a golden metal that had been untarnished from the many years it had been hidden on the seafloor. The diver rubbed some dirt off it gently with her fingers, discovering that it had brilliantly cut diamonds for eyes.
She signalled the other divers, who gathered around her to see her discovery. One diver gave a thumbs up to signal that it was time for them to make their way back to the surface. The ocean explorers made their ascent towards their boat looming overhead, unaware of the shape forming below them.
Materializing out of the sand and water were pieces of wood, semitransparent and with a sickly green glow. The ghostly fragments began to reshape, combine and rearrange themselves into the form of an ancient pirate galleon. The divers had managed to get onboard the ship before they even noticed what was happening underwater, and their boat's engines had started up. As the divers boat travelled back home, the ghostly submerged pirate ship followed.
In another corner of the world, the Quetzalcoatl was soaring over the clouds. The clouds were so thick and billowy that only the very tops of mountains could be seen. Megan, the new addition to the Shen Gong Wu retrieval team, sat in the trailer with Jermaine and Manu. Chucky Choo had been strapped to the front of the vehicle by Jessie, acting as some sort of arrow pointing her in the direction of the new mystical item that had revealed itself.
"Can you untie me now?" asked the tubby dragon loudly. "I think I've swallowed a rainforest's worth of bugs."
"Not until we've got the new wart and you're free of that nasty skin condition," Jessie answered. "I'd rather handle skunk droppings."
"But it's already mostly gone," Chucky whined. "Now we're close to the Wu, there's much less oozing and scabbing." The cowgirl cringed in disgust.
Megan groaned loudly and slouched. "Are we there yet?" she asked grumpily.
"For the hundredth time, no!" Jermaine snapped. "Why did we have to bring you along?"
"You don't need to be stuck here with me," Megan replied with a devilish little smile. "If I tell Jessie you've been bugging me, she might actually throw you off this time."
Jermaine became fearful; in his mind he had a flashback to a point earlier in the journey where Jessie had dangled him off the side of the Quetzalcoatl by his collar for getting on her nerves. The party was quiet for a moment until the vehicle made a sudden dive through the clouds.
"Chucky says this is the place," Jessie said. "Arms of Asura, here we come!"
Beneath the clouds, the heroes were met with an unexpected sight. Before them was a vast cemetery, surrounded by a crooked iron fence and bare trees that looked almost like they had black bark. The Quetzalcoatl landed in the centre of the graveyard and the party cautiously hopped out. Manu, however, remained in the trailer.
"I really wasn't expecting this," he stuttered, hugging himself tightly.
Jessie frowned and pulled him out of the trailer, but when she set him down, he could hardly stand. Looking around, it appeared that they were in a pet cemetery, judging from the large amount of cat and dog statues adorning the tombstones.
Chucky slithered forward, uncovering a flat gravestone. "Here lies Jeremiah the bullfrog. He croaked," he said with a chuckle as he read the words engraved on it.
"That was someone's frog, Chucky," Jermaine said sternly. "Their beloved pet died and they probably cried for weeks. Show some respect." Jessie and Megan glared at the dragon too, making him lower his head in shame.
Above them, the clouds parted, revealing a night sky with a massive full moon. "It wasn't night a few minutes ago," Megan muttered as she looked up, raising an eyebrow.
Manu began to shiver. "Let's just grab the Arms of Asura and get out of here."
Jessie placed a hand on his shoulder. "Relax, ghosts don't exist," she said calmly.
"That's comforting and all, but then there's the fact that our number one enemy happens to be one," Jermaine said, referring to Wuya.
"You're not helping poor Manu!" Jessie snapped at him. Jermaine threw his hands up in the air in frustration before following Chucky towards where the new Shen Gong Wu was likely to be.
Megan and Jessie followed closely, but Manu was a few metres behind. He looked around nervously in all directions, like a cautious sparrow. "Just take your mind off it, Manu," Jessie said to him calmly. "Look at all those stars! Ain't they pretty?"
Manu looked up at the sky and gasped; one constellation appeared to rotate itself into the correct shape. He began to hyperventilate and walk faster, but he stopped in his tracks when he heard a sickening crunch beneath his feet. Gently lifting up his foot, Manu turned white as a sheet when he saw that he had stepped on a pile of tiny bones.
With a scream, Manu ran forward, startling the rest of the party as he pushed through them. "Let's just take the Wu and leave!" he cried.
"Manu, stop!" Jermaine yelled after him. "There might be a trap!"
Before Manu could run further, a bony hand burst out of the soil and seized his ankle. Manu looked down to see a zombie slowly rising from the grave; to his friends it was clearly a humanoid robot with a rubber mask, but to Manu it looked terrifyingly real. Other robots dressed as zombies emerged from the ground, as well as shambling out of the mausoleums.
A spotlight shone on a gravestone in the centre; the resting place of a dog named Puddles. The grave was open and a dark figure slowly rose from it. The heroes assumed a fighting stance, but Manu was forced to watch the terrifying sight as he was grappled by the zombie robot. Other zombie robots began to gather around the grave, until multiple spotlights shone on them as well.
In the brighter light, the figure was revealed to be Jack Spicer, striking an elaborate pose. The robots suddenly assumed the same pose as well. "Who's bad?" Jack asked with a smug grin.
Jermaine threw his arms up in frustration again. "Wrong song!"
"Who cares? The eighties are over," the evildoer said with a shrug. "Zombots, show our friends how we groove in the early 21st century!"
The zombie robots leapt into action, but Jermaine made them look as though they were made of paper as he tore through them with his Wudai Warrior martial arts skills. Megan briefly hesitated as the menacing machines surrounded her, but after donning the Neptune Helmet, she turned the tables on them and became a walking miniature tornado. The robots were picked up and scattered about the graveyard, smashing to pieces when they collided with trees and tombstones.
Jessie vanquished several zombots that had cornered her, but then she noticed that the petrified Manu was helpless against the ones that were ganging up on him. She charged to his rescue, knocking back the robots that tried to jump on her. However, she quickly found that the robots were simply delaying her from reaching Manu quickly enough.
She glared at the zombot that was holding Manu. All of a sudden, an unseen force began to bend and twist the robot's body. As the machine fell apart, Jessie was puzzled and surprised, fending off robots as she tried to look for the source of the strange phenomenon.
Meanwhile, Manu had broken free of the arms that still held on to him and began running. At the far end of the graveyard was a statue of an angel, and beside it was a dead looking tree. In the branches of the tree were two gold and silver armguards; the Arms of Asura. When he caught sight of the Shen Gong Wu, some of Manu's fears melted away, and he instantly made a beeline towards them.
As he ran, his friends vanquished the last of the zombots. "Is that all?" Megan asked her cousin with a smirk.
Jack briefly looked at where Manu was running and answered her question with a grin. Cracks began to appear in the night sky above them; it was revealed that the sky was made from multiple Jack-bots holding hexagonal panels to simulate night-time. The panels were even covered with tiny lights that resembled stars. The full moon, however, was Jack's UFO.
As the Jack-bots closed in on the heroes, the camouflaged UFO lowered itself, revealing Tiny Sim in the cockpit. On his right hand he wore a strange futuristic glove, holding the Majutsu Wand. "The Spicer Power Glove is so hardcore," he said ecstatically, biting his bottom lip. "Let's see how this baby enhances the Majutsu Wand!"
Tiny Sim activated the mystical artefact, its powers magnified with Jack's technology. Instead of requiring a charge after use, Tiny Sim could fire the Majutsu Wand at will. Its magical beams struck the statues of the cemetery, bringing the stone pets to life. Crumbling, weathered looking statues crept up on the heroes as they fended off the army of Jack-bots.
A gang of stone cats leapt upon Jessie, who shook them off by using the Bear Baton to transform into a bear. Jermaine found himself wrestling with a statue of someone's beloved pet monkey, while Megan was chased around the cemetery by a flock of stone parrots.
Manu looked back at his friends, but Jessie yelled back at him. "Don't worry about us, the wart's all yours!"
Manu nodded back at her and proceeded to climb the tree. Climbing a few feet up, Manu was suddenly stopped by a stone hand seizing him by the wrist. He looked into the eyes of the figure that the hand belonged to and found himself face to face with the angel, animated by the Majutsu Wand.
"Do not worry my child; I shall save you from this wretched place," she said, calmly.
The angel spread her wings and pulled Manu away from the tree, taking him into the air. As his legs dangled, Manu began to panic. "No, I'm too young! I don't wanna go!" he wailed.
Finally managing to prize himself from the monkey statue's grip, Jermaine sprinted towards him. "I've got you!" he shouted to Manu reassuringly. Jermaine suddenly felt the air pushed out of his lungs as an animated, life size hippo statue belly flopped on top of him. "Some people make real crazy choices when getting a pet," he wheezed.
Seeing that Jermaine's attempt to save him had failed, Manu kicked and screamed even more. "Now now, do not struggle my child. It will all be worth it in the end," the stone angel said to him calmly, carrying him higher into the sky.
"I'll save you, buddy!" cried Chucky after catching his breath. He had climbed to the top of a mausoleum.
The little dragon began to throw stones at the angel, but they all missed their target and hit Manu instead. "Stop it, stop it!" the battered and bruised boy yelled.
"Don't worry pal, I'm sure the next shot won't miss!" Chucky shouted hesitantly, continuing to throw pebbles.
Tiny Sim watched the scene unfold below him and laughed maniacally, aiming the Majutsu Wand at the angel. He activated the wand again, this time reversing its effect. The angel became an inanimate statue once again and plummeted to the ground, taking Manu with it.
Jessie detached the Wings of Tinabi from the Quetzalcoatl and used them to fly towards him. She shattered the statue to pieces with a well aimed kick and grabbed Manu, falling to the ground with him. Jermaine activated the power of the Suika Scale Shen Gong Wu to escape his predicament, transforming into a living wave of water which then positioned itself underneath the two falling heroes.
Shaping his watery mass into a rough cube shape, Jermaine broke their fall with a splash. The three heroes were lying in a pile as Megan and Chucky hurried to their aid, and Jack exploited the moment to capture the Arms of Asura from the tree.
"Did you see how terrified that kid was?" Jack asked his evil accomplice as he flew into the UFO's open cockpit with his Heli-bot. Landing in the pilot's seat, he handed the Arms of Asura to Tiny Sim and gave him a hi-five. "I'm a little disappointed; I was hoping he'd wet his pants."
A Jack-bot handed its master a half empty bucket of fried chicken. Jack greedily devoured one of the drumsticks before throwing the bones over his shoulder, explaining the bones that Manu had trodden on earlier in the graveyard.
Back on the ground below, a dejected Manu was being comforted by his friends. "Relax, Manu," Jermaine said reassuringly. "Jack got his hands on this Wu, but it wasn't your fault."
The group leader tried to put his hand on the boy's shoulder, but it was brushed off. "Let's just forget about it," he said with a sigh.
The heroes walked solemnly to the Quetzalcoatl. "If that Spicer boy tries to spook us again I'll knock him straight into next week," Jessie said. "Let's blow this pop stand before it becomes night time for real."
When Jack Spicer got back to his lair, he had a laugh with his other cronies, recounting the tale of terrified Manu. "I always knew all those zombie masks lying around this warehouse would come in handy! I'm glad this place was once used to store Halloween merchandise," Jack explained.
"You promised that you'd use no props from that backwards mortal holiday of yours," Wuya grumbled. "They're disrespectful to the deceased."
Jack rolled his eyes. "People like you are sucking the fun out of our holidays! First you say its bad to dress up as cartoonish stereotypes, and now you say dressing up as the undead is offensive to ghosts."
"It's possible to have fun without insulting people," Katnappé said with a sneer. "You just need a bigger brain." Jack glared at her and she sniggered.
Vlad approached Jack with Wuya floating beside him; he was holding a newspaper with a photo depicting a ghostly looking galley, surrounded by fog. "There's been the sighting of a ghost ship," she said to the boy genius. "Why pretend to be ghosts while you can get the real things?"
Jack snatched the paper from Vlad's hand and bent down so Tiny Sim could read it too. "This is too cool; I've always wanted to become terror of the high seas! Later I'll move on to becoming terror of the sky, and then space!" Jack said with a grin.
"Wuya can use her ghostly charms to talk the ghost pirates into joining us," Tiny Sim said, chuckling as he rubbed his grimy hands together.
Wuya blushed at Tiny Sim's comment. "Well, I haven't met any handsome spirits for a long time."
Jack hurried over to some crates that were marked as holding Halloween decorations, props and costumes. Surrounded by boxes, Jack donned the Arms of Asura armguards. Announcing the Shen Gong Wu's name, Jack magically sprouted several more arms from his back and chest. With his new arms, Jack opened all the crates at once and began throwing some outfits to his comrades.
"If we're talking to ghost pirates, we'll need the appropriate attire," he explained. The outfits he had thrown to his fellow evildoers were all zombie pirate outfits.
Katnappé looked at the 'Hot Pirate Lady' outfit Jack had handed her and frowned. "This is gross," she grumbled. Tiny Sim looked up at her and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively with a sly grin. Katnappé responded by throwing several of her attack kittens at his face.
"It is very despicable," Vlad added, glancing at the costume that Katnappé was handed. "Why must ladies always wear the attractive costumes? Where are hot pirate outfits for men?"
Tubbimura had not been given a pirate costume yet and looked left out. "Don' worry, Tubby!" Jack said with a grin. "I don't have pirate outfits in your size, so you'll have to pretend to be our captive! Pirates hate ninjas, so these ghost pirates will think we're pretty cool for capturing one."
"That sounds most dishonourable," Tubbimura said, sounding unimpressed and folding his arms. "It would bring shame to the ways of the ninja."
Jack, looking crafty, approached him and warmly placed several of his many hands on the overweight ninja's shoulders. "But it would also be honourable; you'd be helping us all out," the evil boy genius said with a wink. Tubbimura looked torn between his choices.
Once all the villains except Tubbimura had donned their pirate costumes, they boarded Jack's UFO and flew towards the waters where the mysterious ghost ship had been sighted recently. The sea was becoming very misty, making Jack turn on the vehicle's fog lights. He squinted his eyes, trying to peer through the fog, but his companions appeared very timid.
"If I was a ghost ship, where would I be?" Jack mumbled to himself. All of a sudden, a shadow appeared over the water and the UFO. The villains peered up and gasped; floating above them was the ghostly galleon itself. "These pirates know how to make a pretty good entrance," Jack said, sounding impressed. "For dead guys, anyway."
The UFO floated upwards until it was level with the phantom vessel's deck. Jack grinned and rubbed his hands while his villainous accomplices began to shiver; ghostly figures were beginning to materialize on the deck in front of them. The UFO opened its transparent dome so they could speak face to face with the ghosts. Eventually, Jack began to feel fear too; he recognized one of the spirits appearing before him.
"Hey Blackbeard, long time no sea...get it?" quipped Jack nervously.
The spirit of Blackbeard, now fully materialized, opened his one good eye and glared at Jack and his cronies. "Jack Spicer!" he growled, obviously remembering the boy genius from the time he used the Sands of Time Shen Gong Wu to bring him into the present day.
The infamous captain and his ghostly crew drew their swords, but Wuya quickly drifted in between the cowering villains and the wrathful pirates. "Blackbeard, what brings you into the realm of the living on this fine day?" she asked.
Blackbeard snarled before answering. "Whoever's got their hands on me treasure better have a decent apology, or I'll keelhaul the lot of ye!" The angry ghost pointed his sword through Wuya and at Jack's nose. "I remember you were quite into treasure hunting yourself, Spicer boy! You never did pay me for my assistance! I have a special punishment for scurvy knaves who never follow up on their bargains...and for scallywags who bring shame to the name of piracy with such ridiculous clothing!"
The other pirate ghosts approached, chuckling to themselves. Jack's comrades all glared at him for having the idea to wear pirate outfits. Wuya interrupted again, "Captain Blackbeard; join us, and we can conquer the mortal world!"
"We caught a ninja especially! Don't you think we're cool?" Tiny Sim questioned hesitantly, pointing to Tubbimura. Some of the pirates began to mutter amongst themselves, asking each other what a ninja was. Tubbimura looked frustrated.
Blackbeard narrowed his one eye at the Heylin witch spirit before the ghost of his parrot settled on his shoulder. "You are a disgrace to evil everywhere," the parrot squawked, using a voice that sounded like Wuya's. The ghostly witch remembered that was what she had said to Blackbeard when he and the other historical evildoers that Jack had bought to the present failed to defeat the Xiaolin Warriors.
Able to grab her due to being a ghost himself, Blackbeard pulled Wuya close. For a rare moment, Wuya looked genuinely afraid. Jack, realizing that Blackbeard could only interact with other ghosts, gained some confidence. "Ha! All you ghosts are all bark and no bite! You can't tell us flesh and blood mortals what to do!"
Jack's celebration was short lived, as the ghostly ship suddenly began to take on another appearance. It was beginning to solidify; the wood losing its ghostly transparency while still retaining its sickly green glow. The pirates began to solidify too, revealing their decaying half skeletal bodies. They all began to laugh and cheer excitedly at the idea of being able to tear the villains limb from limb.
"These spirits are motivated by a powerful grudge or curse!" Wuya exclaimed. "They are stronger than spirits who were imprisoned by force like I was!"
Panicking to see the undead buccaneers advancing on him, Jack began to plead. "Please! Tell us what treasure you're looking for and we can help you find it!"
"Drop your swords, boys! I can tell by the smell of his fear that this dog isn't the one who stole it!" The pirates lowered their cutlasses as Blackbeard continued to speak. "Someone took me Diamond Eyes Dolphin without challenging me to a duel first!"
"Sorry, I think that is my smell," Vlad mumbled sheepishly. Jack gave him a brief look of disgust.
Wuya, now free from the pirate's grip, gasped. "The Diamond Eyes Dolphin is one of the Shen Gong Wu!"
Jack's eyes lit up. "Oh, oh! I know who could've taken it; they're friends of those Xiaolin losers you fought against with me! The real monks aren't collecting Shen Gong Wu for the time being."
Blackbeard grinned devilishly; Jack and his accomplices were relieved. "The Diamond Eyes Dolphin is me most prized possession; no one takes it without winning against me in a fair game!"
Jack nodded in agreement. "They should be still heading home; you can set a trap for them!" The ghost pirates floated towards the UFO and grabbed Jack and his cronies despite their protests. "Hey, what gives?" Jack asked in terror as the bony, slimy fingers seized him.
"You've escaped one punishment, but ye still have to suffer another for never paying me!" Blackbeard answered with a laugh. "I've been thinking of sending ye to Davy Jones's Locker for a long time!"
Tiny Sim shrugged his shoulders. "I've been shoved into lockers a lot; I'm used to it."
"Looks like they have some treasure of their own, cap'n!" added one of the pirates, taking the Arms of Asura from Jack.
"No, not the Arms of Asura, I just got those!" Jack cried. "Wuya, tell them to leave my stuff alone!" To Jack's disappointment, Wuya was already flying away, deciding not to get involved.
Blackbeard placed the mystic armguards on his bony arms and called out its name, sprouting several more arms afterwards. "Ah, I feel as strong as the giant squid I once wrestled for sucking out Blind Mickey's eyeballs," he proclaimed as he proudly flexed them.
"Aye, 'tis true," added a ghost pirate wearing two eye patches.
Jack and his accomplices were tied up with slimy ropes by their wrists and ankles; he noticed that the each rope was also looped beneath the pirate ship. Jack, Vlad, Tubbimura, Tiny Sim and Katnappé were then thrown overboard. Blackbeard found his new arms made the task effortless for him, even though it should have been only accomplished by several men. They were then dragged slowly under the ship's keel, getting covered in slimy ectoplasm as they went, until they were completely underneath it.
As the ghostly galley sailed through the sky, Jack spoke to his team. "Look at it this way; at least we won't get seasick flying through the air like this!" His accomplices groaned in anger.
The Quetzalcoatl was still on its way back to Guan's Temple, soaring over the ocean. The waters were calm, and the only notable thing in sight was a lone grey cargo ship. However, when the heroes flew closer, Jessie had to make an abrupt turn as a distress flare shot up from the ship towards them.
"Those folks need rescuing!" Chucky exclaimed. "We couldn't get the Wu, but we can at least save some guys and get a reward!"
They swooped down and parked on the ship's deck, but they were greeted by an eerie silence. The five of them started to look around for any crewmembers, calling to see if anyone was there, only to get no response. Jermaine stumbled across a flare gun, most likely the one that had been used to alert them.
"Something's not right here," he called out to his friends. "I'm gonna head below deck and see if the crew are there."
Manu was becoming worried once again. "We'll have to come too," he said. "There might be something dangerous."
While Manu, Jermaine and Jessie went below deck, Megan remained above with Chucky. Looking out to sea on the opposite side of the ship, Megan leant over the side out of curiosity and spotted what appeared to be massive bullet holes in the side of the ship.
"Chucky, come and have a look at this!" she called to her scaly companion.
The dragon slithered to her and looked over the railing as well. "Wow, this ship's been hit by cannons! That's gonna cost 'em," he muttered. "I'm not sure if you can get insured against cannonball damage these days."
He and Megan moved to the back of the ship and noticed something else unusual about the vessel; the freefall lifeboat was absent. "The lifeboat's missing; the crew must've escaped a long time ago," Megan said. "Seeing as there's no lifeboat in sight around the ship, someone must've already picked them up."
"Then who fired off the flare?" Chucky asked fearfully.
Megan did not respond. Chucky looked at her to see if she was okay, only to see her standing with a look of fright on her face, pointing behind him. The dragon gulped, but before he turned fully around, a ghostly hand clamped down upon his neck. Chucky was pulled face to face with Blackbeard.
"Boo," whispered the ghostly captain with a grin.
Below deck, Jermaine led his two companions through the cramped crew's quarters. From a door up ahead, the adventurers could hear the sound of someone crying out. Jermaine ran the entire length of the corridor to the door and pulled it open, only to be greeted by the sight of a parrot.
The parrot flew back and forth down the corridor as the heroes recovered from their fright. It became apparent that it had been making the sounds of distress. "Darn thing scared us nearly to death!" Jessie yelled. "I'd prefer a buzzard over that thing any day; any bird can make a sweeter sound than that."
The parrot continued crying and screaming, but then it collided with a wall. The three of them watched in disbelief as the bird appeared to merge with the wall, disappearing from sight. Manu, Jessie and Jermaine exchanged confused glances before they heard the sound of male voices laughing.
While Manu began to panic and Jessie looked around to see where the laughter was coming from, Jermaine spotted a fire axe behind a glass cabinet. The glass suddenly smashed spontaneously, and the axe levitated from its position.
"Heads up, I mean, down!" Jermaine shouted as the axe came hurtling towards them. The group ducked and the flying axe became embedded in the stairs behind them.
The laughter became even louder, and it dawned upon them that they were under attack from invisible assailants. "You guys should know that you can't play fair if you can't be seen!" Jessie growled, tossing a colourful Shen Gong Wu ahead of her. "Rainbow star!"
The Rainbow Star flew down the corridor, painting the walls in a kaleidoscope of colour. The Shen Gong Wu did not just recolor the walls; the invisible assailants were also revealed by the rainbow. The multicoloured figures shambled towards the three heroes, gradually assuming the form of ghostly skeletal pirates.
"Ghosts!" Manu yelled in terror. He attempted to run back up the stairs, but more pirate spirits were coming down. He backed down, shivering and shaking.
"I ain't 'fraid of no-" Jermaine was cut off as a ghost took him by the arm, turning him incorporeal too and dragging him through a wall.
To Jessie's chagrin, a ghost emerged through the floor at her feet and did the same to her. Manu was left by himself, covering his eyes and shrieking. The pirates laughed at him and left him alone, believing they had scared him enough. Jermaine and Jessie were taken back onto the deck by the ghosts pulling them up through the floor, where they became solid once again. They met with the captured Chucky and Megan, as well as the fearsome ghost captain himself.
"Hey Blackbeard, long time no see! Remember our games together?" Chucky asked the sea spirit, sweating with dread.
"Aye, I remember," Blackbeard replied gravely. "You were always trying to win me lucky dolphin! I'm not surprised you took advantage of your long dragon lifespan and took it from me after I kicked the bucket!"
He and some of his ghostly crew drew their swords and pointed them at the little dragon's throat. "C'mon Eddy, you know I wouldn't do something like that," he spluttered. "You held onto the Diamond Eyes Dolphin fair and square."
The name appeared to ring a bell with Megan, but she kept silent. Meanwhile, the ghosts made their bony hands phase through Jessie and Jermaine's bodies. Both of them appeared disgusted as the spirits used their powers to feel about inside them.
"Bad news cap'n," said one of the ghosts. "Seems neither of these landlubbers have the dolphin on them, or in them."
"Good thing you're already dead," Jessie grumbled quietly. "You should know better than to go around putting your hands in a lady's internal organs without asking first."
Blackbeard growled in frustration, sheathing his sword. "That Spicer lied to us again! It's a good thing we got rid of him before he could spew anymore nonsense. Looks like we'll have to take our search onto dry land; throw these scallywags overboard and we can get on with things."
The pirates cheered in unison and carried their captives to the side of the ship, with Blackbeard holding onto Chucky Choo himself. "Can't you just let me and the poor kids go?" the dragon asked his old gambling partner frantically.
"Sorry Chucky," Blackbeard said with a touch of false sincerity. "Now you know my dolphin is out and about, you'll want to go after it as well. No hard feelings."
The captain grinned and dropped Chucky over the side first, followed seconds later by Jermaine, Megan and Jessie. Blackbeard turned back to his crew as his ghostly galleon rematerialized on the opposite side of the cargo ship, his parrot returning to his shoulder with a squawk. As soon as the ghost pirates had boarded the boat and sailed off into the sky, Manu came running up from below deck.
"Guys, what happened?" he called out.
After a few frantic moments of looking around for his friends, Manu heard their voices calling out to him. Manu looked towards the source of the noise, only to see what appeared to be a massive lime green balloon inflating itself to a height greater than the cargo ship. He saw Jermaine, Jessie and Megan peering down from the top.
"Manu, you're alright!" Jermaine exclaimed elatedly. "You can unplug your tail now, Chuck."
He and his friends jumped off the balloon as a small popping sound was heard, and the noisy sound of expelled air followed. Jermaine held onto the scaly balloon as it shrank into his hand, revealing itself to be Chucky.
"It sure was good that you had that power you never revealed until now," Jessie muttered derisively to the deflated dragon.
"With good reason," Chucky groaned in response, obviously very tired and in pain from his efforts.
Megan stomped over to Manu, looking angry and upset. "Where were you when we were getting thrown overboard?"
Jessie walked over to comfort Manu. "Manu was just frozen in fear," she replied for him. "A lot of people suffer from stuff like that and they can't help it."
Manu sighed and looked down at his feet. "It's true; I let my fear get in the way of the safety of my friends. Why did it have to be ghosts coming after us?"
"They were looking for the Diamond Eyes Dolphin," Megan replied. "I don't know what it is, but it was a piece of treasure that divers discovered recently. It's been put up on display at a renowned museum, not too far from here." She smiled conceitedly. "I check all the history websites every day."
"I've seen that thing too," Chucky added. "It was a Shen Gong Wu; Blackbeard's most prized possession. Always wagered it in his poker games because he knew he'd never lose with its good luck on the table. I tried to win it from him only so I could make accurate copies of it, so the kids could own a little bit of their favourite pirate captain!"
"Something tells me he doesn't like kids that much," Jermaine said. "If Blackbeard said he's going to dry land, then it won't be long before he finds that museum; we could get the jump on him there or win the dolphin in a Xiaolin Showdown."
Jessie looked at Manu with concern and then back at Jermaine. "How are we gonna get those pirates if Manu's so dang afraid of them? Manu's usually brave, but when ghosts and ghouls are involved it's like he's as yellow as mustard but without the bite."
After a bit of quiet contemplation while Jessie and Jermaine argued, Manu stood forward courageously, looking at each of his friends. "I'll still help. I know what we're up against now; they can't take me by surprise anymore."
"You sure about that, Manu?" Jessie questioned him, sounding concerned.
"Think of it as a wet floor sign," Manu explained. "When you see one of those, you tread carefully so you can avoid slipping. When I know there's a fright ahead, I can prepare myself."
"Kind of a weird analogy, but it makes sense," said Megan, nodding in agreement.
Jermaine smiled warmly at his companion. "Alright; signs for that museum will be all over the city; let's hope some of those pirates can't read so we can spend some time thinking up a plan of action."
Meanwhile, Blackbeard's galleon drifted between the skyscrapers of the nearby city, sailing through the air above the busy streets below. Many pedestrians yelled and hid, or took photos and films with whatever cameras they had. Some drivers stuck in traffic grumbled and moaned, believing that the ghostly ship would only delay them further.
"A lot has changed in just a few centuries..." gasped one of Blackbeard's crew.
"All this technological advancement means the world of today is just asking for a plundering!" Blackbeard exclaimed with laughter as they drifted past some neon lights and other flashy signs. "Look at all these wonders; they'll all be ours after we get me dolphin back! Palaces of glass and steel as far as the eye can see!"
"No need to rub it in," muttered Blind Mickey.
A pirate ghost in the ship's crow's nest put away his telescope and yelled down to the other pirates on deck. "Cap'n, they're practically pointing us to the treasure!"
Blackbeard looked around to see what that meant before noticing signs to the museum, each featuring the Diamond Eyes Dolphin as the main attraction to a new exhibition that had opened. "Ah ha, these landlubbers must be challenging us! They don't know what they be dealing with!"
The museum was one of the most distinct buildings in the city and could have been spotted from a great distance away, but the heroes had luckily arrived there first. Chucky had managed to get them into the museum by creating fake tickets, and soon the five of them were hiding amongst the rafters of the great hall where the Diamond Eyes Dolphin was being displayed.
"Why can't we just nab the wart before those salty suckers get here?" Jessie asked her companions.
"Those ghosts won't stop until they take it from us," Jermaine answered. "The only way we can send Blackbeard and his creepy crew to an eternal rest is by beating him fare and square in a showdown for his dolphin."
"That better happen soon; I don't want to get thrown out," Chucky added hesitantly. "The phony tickets were some of the best I've ever made, but I get the feeling that the security guards will be able to recognise crayon when they see it."
They had a good view of the hall's large window, but saw no sign of their adversaries. All of a sudden, people who were going about their business outside began to flee in directions away from the museum, and the heroes were quick to notice.
"Do you think the pirates will be dumb enough to-" before Megan could continue her sentence, a thunderous crash rocked the museum as the ghostly galleon smashed through the wall.
The flying pirate ship had demolished the front of the museum; now it's ghostly crew was spilling into the building by the dozen. The five adventurers immediately jumped down from the rafters before the pirates could cause any more harm.
"Do something like this?" Jermaine said, completing Jessie's sentence before leaping into action. He used the Bullhorn Blazer to bowl over some of the attacking ghost buccaneers, forming a stampede of bull spirits.
Several pirates began to walk menacingly towards Megan, but the little girl was unfazed and pulled out the Culver Crystal Shen Gong Wu. Resembling a diamond pendant, the mystic artefact projected a sphere of glittering light that captivated her adversaries. While Megan sneaked away from them craftily, she bumped into one hulking undead pirate.
The brute chuckled and grabbed hold of her arm, but Jessie pulled a round shield from one of the displays and tossed it at his wrist, making the pirate drop Megan in pain. Once she was back on her feet, Megan knocked him over with a sweeping kick.
Megan's moment of triumph seemed to fade once she and Jessie found themselves surrounded by more pirates, each readying their swords. Jessie stared at the encircling blades, ignited by the drive to protect her friend. Miraculously, the swords began to somehow bend out of shape before levitating out of the ghosts hands. The disarmed pirates stared in disbelief, then began to run in fear.
Jessie and Megan exchanged puzzled looks before noticing that Jermaine was struggling against Blackbeard himself. Using the Arms of Asura to grant himself extra hands, the undead captain held multiple swords. Jermaine was duelling him with a simple spear from one of the displays, but Blackbeard caught him by surprise by sprouting another pair of arms and tossing him into his two friends, knocking them over as well.
"Nothing gets between me and me dolphin!" Blackbeard said with a laugh as he approached the pedestal that displayed the Diamond Eyes Dolphin.
He seized the Shen Gong Wu, only to find that another pair of hands had grabbed hold of it at the same time. Manu had been hiding in a potted plant, and had waited for his chance to leap out since the galleon crashed through the museum. "I challenge you to a Xiaolin Showdown!"
The legendary captain chuckled. "Ah, I think I know the gist of these games! I wager me Arms of Asura against whatever you have!"
Jermaine, sitting up, tossed Manu a Shen Gong Wu; the Ninja Sash. "The game is showdown billiards; whoever can get all their opponent's balls in the pockets wins! Let's go; Xiaolin Showdown!"
With the sound of thunder, the museum and the ghostly galleon broke apart, revealing everything was floating in a purple void. Blackbeard's ship had transformed into a gigantic billiards table; at each side were a dozen boulder sized balls, colour coded to represent both sides. Manu appeared standing in front of the red balls, while Blackbeard stood in front of the black balls. The spectators sat on various pieces of floating debris that encircled the table.
As soon as both combatants had yelled "Gong Yi Tan Pai", Blackbeard kicked one of his balls towards Manu's. Striking the triangular formation head on, the red balls were scattered in all directions as Manu frantically tried to avoid them. A great deal of Manu's balls had already been pocketed, and with his extra arms, Blackbeard only bombarded them further.
Manu leapt onto one of his balls and rolled it towards Blackbeard by running on top; the captain leapt out of the way as Manu used it to pocket some of the black balls. Some of them rolled towards Blackbeard, who caught each one with his multiple arms and rolled them back at Manu. Running as fast as he could, Manu rolled his ball with his feet to avoid them, but was caught off guard when one of his own balls collided with him.
Manu tumbled off his ball and rolled dangerously close to one of the pockets. He found that the dark hole had a powerful suction, drawing him in. "Hang in there!" Jessie yelled at him.
Blackbeard kicked one of Manu's red balls towards him, but Manu leapfrogged over it at the last minute. He activated the Ninja Sash Shen Gong Wu to create two doubles of himself, which ran to two opposing sides of the table. The pirate captain roared in frustration as they began to knock his balls into the pockets.
"The dolphin's still going to be mine!" he growled, punching two balls towards the doubles.
The table erupted into a frenzy of balls colliding with each other until both Manu and Blackbeard only had one ball left. Both combatants stepped on top of their balls, racing towards each other. The two balls collided, creating sparks as the two fighters continued to run. The intense friction was beginning to burn the table.
"Sorry Blackbeard, but that dolphin's going to be under our protection now!" Manu said, just as his two doubles leaped back into action.
Blackbeard was shocked; he had completely forgotten about the two ninja doubles that Manu had created. The two clones came in with flying kicks, knocking Blackbeard off his ball so Manu could knock it into the corner pocket.
With a flash of lightning, their surroundings changed back into the ruined museum. Manu's friends came to congratulate him, admiring the Arms of Asura and Diamond Eyes Dolphin. Blackbeard assembled his crew and reluctantly bowed towards the heroes, taking off his hat.
"Aye, you beat me fare and square," he grumbled. "The Diamond Eyes Dolphin is yours now."
"Yes, finally!" Chucky Choo exclaimed, taking the mystic ornament from Manu's grasp. "Don't worry Eddy, we'll take good care of it!"
Blackbeard and his crew began to fade, along with his ship. "Looks like we're heading back to another rest, at least until some landlubbers come across me other most prized possessions!"
"There's more?" Manu asked with a groan. Before he got a reply, the pirates had departed from the realm of the living.
Jermaine put a hand on Manu's shoulder. "Well, at least we got the one that mattered. We've also got the Arms of Asura somehow! I wonder how that old pirate got his hands on them in the first place."
The group of friends turned towards the exit, but were confronted by the burly security guards and a flustered looking smartly dressed man who was presumably the curator of the museum. "No need to fear anymore, sir," Chucky said. "The pirate curse has been lifted!"
The curator did not respond, instead turning more red in the face and breathing heavier. The five adventurers looked back to see the destruction that they and the pirates had caused. "Our bad," Manu said with a nervous laugh.
"Just take the blasted dolphin and leave!" yelled the curator. "You're banned from the museum for life!"
"What's the big idea?" Jessie asked angrily. "Most of this mess was Blackbeard's fault!"
"Yes," replied the curator. "But since those ghosts weren't alive, I can't ban them from the museum for life, can I?"
Jermaine sighed loudly. "Okay man, we're going." He led his friends to the exit of the building, fortunate to have been allowed to take the Diamond Eyes Dolphin from the ruined exhibit.
"I have a weird feeling we're forgetting something," Megan said as they passed a crowd of bystanders coming to view the destruction.
Jack and his henchmen were stranded on a tiny speck of land in the middle of the ocean, after being dropped there by the pirates without the UFO. The island was no bigger than a swimming pool, with a single coconut tree in the middle.
"Look on the bright side," Jack said, sitting underneath the only spot of shade that the solitary tree provided. "Being on this island, far away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, will give us plenty of time to focus on putting our next evil plan into action! Only if that plan involves coconuts and seashells, though."
Katnappé nudged Vlad with her shoulder and whispered to him. "When we all go crazy from starvation, let's all agree to eat Jack first." The other henchmen had heard her too and nodded in agreement.
