Chapter 18

Enter the Elite

"Welcome one and all to this season's Master Division Codemaster's Tournament! The competition has been fierce, but only one can advance to the title match to fight for the honor of being the number 1 Codemaster! Now let's meet our challengers!"

A red haired girl, standing at 5'3, entered the arena from the left wearing a brown gauntlet, while a green haired boy entered from the right wearing a bright green gauntlet.

"On the left, from Frederick's Arcade, Fey Beauty, and on the right, from The Arcade of Kings, N Harmonia! This fight will be over when one side's armor disengages. BEGIN!"

They donned their armor and summoned their weapons.

"Quake Blade!"

"Wind Daggers!"

N charged first slashing at Fey, but she just fluidly dodged the blow throwing her own punch at his side.

"Quaker Shot!" She slipped the card into her gantlet which caused a wave of rocks to throw N off balance.

"Balance is everything. If you lose it..." Fey dashed and tripped N, pointing her sword at his chest, "it may cost you." She slipped behind him and slashed his back, blasting him across the arena.

"Looks like you've got your work cut out for you." Ralph commented as he sat next to his boyfriend in the skybox of the arena. He chose to wear blue jeans and his boots for a change.

"And she's using that new ability card set that was just released to the public like they've been out forever." Sarah added.

"She's good. Really good. Looks like I'm not gonna have to hold back."

"You act like you were gonna hold back in the first place." Sarah replied.

"Yeah, Ray. You don't even hold back when we spar." Justin added from behind him.

"Whatever!" Ray crossed his arms in defeat.

"Don't make me get the tickle monster out here." Ralph tiptoed his fingers down Ray's side.

"Not in the skybox, Ralphy." Ray pleaded, but his pleas were on deaf ears as Ralph proceeded to touch spots on Ray's body that made him fall out of his seat in heated laughter.

"Warned you about the tickle monster."

"Haha! Take that Ray!" Sarah laughed at her friend's pain, but was put in the same position as him as her boyfriend began to hit the same spots that forced her on the floor right next to Ray.

"No gloating sweetie." Felix stifled a chuckle and helped her back into her seat.

"I wonder if you could tickle someone out of Codemaster mode?" Justin thought aloud as Ray sat back in his seat.

When Ray's eyes met the screen once more, the fight was over.

"The winner is Fey Beauty! She will be moving on to the title match!" the announcer barked to the thousands of screaming fans.

"Now enters the current Number 1 Codemaster and the first to eradicate his arcade's entire Big 4, Ray Hagane!"

He entered the arena and took his place in front of Fey.

"Hey... aren't you that one racer from Sugar Rush?" Ray inquired as he stared her down.

"I was on assignment there tracking a general who just happened to arcade jump to your location, but you and Codemaster Sarah eradicated him before I could even engage my armor. Now... Show me your strength!"

"Ready... Begin!"

They donned their armor and summoned their weapons.

"Quake Blade!"

"Lightning Blasters!"

They both stood there, waiting for their opponent to make the first move. Moments passed with no movement from either warrior.

Fey took it upon herself to end the stalemate and charged Ray. Her blade clashed with his guns, connecting the two warriors.

"Quake Shot!" Fey performed a swift back flip and sent a shockwave at Ray.

Ray slipped a card into his gauntlet, floated up a bit and dodged the blow.

"How? What? Huh?" Fey was thrown off by Ray's maneuver.

"You're not the only one with ability cards." Ray held up his gauntlet. "Magnet Rise keeps me off the ground using my static electricity."

"Damn... Rock Collide!" Slipping another card into her gauntlet, two slabs of earth sprouted from ground on either side of Ray.

"X Mode Activate!" The X's graced his armor and his blasters changed color. Pointing them to his sides, he vaporized the dirt walls before they could crush him.

"Grr... Gaia Slash!" She dashed at him and bashed him in the chest with her sword. He slid across the arena, taking noticeable damage, while also shooting her weapon out of her hand.

"Code Change! Dig Dug!" She crushed the card and her armor became more flexible. Her sword was replaced by a pickaxe and she gained an air pump.

"Earthquake Seisma!" She sent another shockwave at Ray, but this one was taller than the last one, so he blasted it back. Unfortunately, the strain coded out his blasters and wore him down a bit.

"I gotta shut her out! If she keeps this up, I might lose! Time to go beta!" he pulled out his final blank card.

"Beta Master Mode! Power UP!" He crushed the card, but nothing happened. "I said Power Up..."

"Earthquake Exceedra!" Another shockwave rushed at Ray.

"Katado, Shield!" The legendary weapon created a barrier that blocked the attack.

"You still can't hurt me with that weapon. Fusion or not, it's still part Monado."

"Then I'll have to call on some help. Code Summon, Bowser Koopa!" Ray threw the card on the sky and his mentor dropped down.

"How's being number 1?" Bowser asked his pupil.

"I'll give you a full rundown later. For now, let's give her a proper sendoff."

Ray charged electricity from around the arena as Bowser curled up into a ball.

"Earthquake Seisma plus Earthquake Exceedra!" Fey brought out the biggest quake she could muster that shook the entire stadium to its core.

"Up!" Bowser flung himself into the sky while Ray chased after him.

He couldn't coast over the quake wall, so he decided to burst through it.

"Spike Wrecker, GO!" Ray threw all the power he gathered onto Bowser, then kicked him straight through the wall of dirt. His speed was enough to crash into Fey with little resistance and code out her armor.

"The winner, and still champion, is Ray Hagane!" The crowd's cheers shook the stands as Ray's armor disengaged and Bowser disappeared.

"Whew... That wore me out. I gotta get back in shape." He walked over to Fey and held out his hand.

"Lucky shot, guy."

"Need a lift?" He jested as she grabbed his hand and pulled herself up.

"Thank you for the chance to battle you. You sure are stronger than that time at Sugar Rush. And that power."

Ray put his hand on her shoulder. "That wasn't even my Beta Master Mode. I'm still working on it." Ray explained as his friends stormed the field.

Sarah was not happy. "Ray! What's with you trying to use Beta Master Mode before you even start training? Are you mental?!"

"A bit, but that's nothing new." Ray teased as Sarah punched his arm.

"Ray. You seem tired. You need me to carry you?" Ralph offered as he stood next to his boyfriend.

"Uhh. No that's all RIGHT!" Ralph threw him over his shoulder and tromped off towards home with eyes on them the entire way out.

The Next Day...

"Reach the flag in 45 seconds! BEGIN!" Justin hopped from rooftop to rooftop aiming for the flag. At the 40 second mark he reached the pole, just barely grabbing the flag before the building collapsed. The simulation ended and he crashed to the ground.

"Next time use your wind element to cushion your fall." Ray helped Justin to his feet.

"Thanks for the tip Senpai, but when will I be able to go X Mode?"

"You're not ready. Only when you've achieved inner peace will you be able to access X Mode. Trust and believe it won't be easy, but once you've done it, power you never knew existed will be thrust upon you."

"L.O.S. Alert! L.O.S. Alert! Unknown anomaly has been detected!"

"This might be the Elite 8. Looks like that threat wasn't so empty. Let's go!"

Ray and Justin teleported to G.C.S. where, once again, it looked like a tornado hit the place, but this time, only the end where Codemasters would enter from was damaged.

"Looks like you wants this to be a private party." Ray jested as he stood behind the villain.

"But we didn't get our invitations in the mail." Justin added.

If the dark purple jumpsuit with bat wings on the back wasn't a dead giveaway, he turned to reveal a helmet with ram horns piercing the front of it.

"So you're the dudes Lord Demonfang wants eradicated. Well I guess I have no choice but to comply."

"Why did it have to be Alastor?"

"I'm Blade Master Alastor and I'll be your opponent!"

"I just said your name!" Ray shot back annoyed.

"I gotta stick to the script, dude. Boss man gets mad if I don't."

"Well I guess we'd better dress for the occasion!"

Armor and weapons spurred onto their bodies in a flash of code.

"Thunder Blasters!"

"Elemental Bow!"

Alastor wasted no time slashing at Ray while Justin shot arrow after arrow, covering the floor with ice.

"If I can just get a clean shot!" Justin was successful and clipped Alastor's wing with some frost slowing him down a bit.

"You're title isn't ill placed. You really are a blade master. But I'm number 1 codemaster for a reason!" Ray slid under him and blasted his wings, grounding him.

"Thunderbolt!" Ray slid a card into his gauntlet and a jolt of electricity crashed down on Alastor.

"Ha! Deflect!" Alastor flung the attack towards a blocked off gate.

"Try some of my dark lightning!" Alastor pointed his sword at Ray and shot a bolt directly into his core.

"Hrrgh... X Mode... Activate!" The X's appeared and the blast was cushioned. A sword of pure electricity coded into his hand.

"X Blade Thunder!" Ray charged Alastor and dealt a 2 slash combo to his chest, but the damage was dealt directly to himself.

"Mirror magic. Gotta love it." Alastor taunted from behind Ray.

"Damn. I forgot that he had powers like this."

"That's not all I can do! Sword Rain!" All of a sudden, Ray was surrounded by a sky full of swords. They sped towards him and slashed him up bad, coding out his armor. Justin was hit by the aftermath and knocked to the floor, unmoving.

"Damn it! I can't lose here! What am I gonna do?"

"I've got your back!" A shockwave threw Alastor into the wall.

"Fey?" Ray inquired as the red head helped him up.

"Ready to send him packing?"

"You know it!" Ray resummoned his armor and engaged X Mode once more.

They both charged him, slashing in perfect sync.

"Ready, Justin?"

"But I knocked him out!"

"You know it! Freeze Blast!" Justin yelled as he put Alastor on ice.

"You don't assume they're down. Kill confirm next time." Fey tsked.

"Finisher! X Thunder Slash!"

"Finisher! Gaia Fang!"

Both attacks hit their mark and sent Alastor packing.

"What were you doing over here, Fey?" Ray inquired as Justin fixed the station.

"Well, I was wondering if you'd tell me how to obtain X Mode." she replied with a small blush.

"Well only the Legendary 5 can-"

Ray was flashed to the white room. Codemaster X sat at his desk.

"She's number 4."

"She's number 4?"

"She's number 4."

Ray reappeared in front of Fey.

"Here." Ray held out a blank card. "This should glow when you're ready. Welcome to the Legendary 5."

"I am? Thank you!" She said her goodbyes then took the portal back to her arcade.

"Do you think we'll see her again soon?" Justin inquired as they made their way towards Fix-it Felix.

"I know we will. She's one of us now." Ray knew this was just the beginning.
